Where to Eat Near Mount Rainier National Park | Eater Seattle

"A lively daytime through early evening spot in Ashford with a big outdoor section and frequent live music, Rainier BaseCamp’s wooden exterior and Himalayan prayer flags pay tribute to its mountain setting. The menu is more American, however, featuring bubbly pizzas, wraps and sandwiches, and burgers, including salmon and veg burgers. If you’ve forgotten any outdoor gear or necessities, in true PNW fashion, BaseCamp also sells and rents mountain gear, outdoor clothes, and guiding services." - Alicia Erickson

Google
It's a pretty standard fast food/bar fare type of deal. Pizza, burger, salad, etc. A few alcoholic drinks. Service is relatively quick. Clean establishment. Outdoor and indoor seats. The outdoor has a fire going. A little chilly so bring your jacket. The inside is more cozy but louder. Ample parking. Bathroom at the adjacent building. In general... It's just ok. Not bad, not great, just decent and what's to be expected.

Google
Had a great turkey, bacon, ranch wrap. Also had some beer and fries. Unluckily, they had run out of cheese for their pizzas. They were getting some in the the next day. I did get to smell their pizza the day before it smelled amazing!! Definitely a great place to enjoy a drink and or some food and read a book, or just sit back and enjoy the beauty of the area. I highly recommend!

Google
We stopped on a Sunday, early September, and it wasn’t busy at lunch time. We enjoyed our sandwich, wrap, and cheeseburgers, but they were out of fries. After ordering, it only took maybe 10-15 minutes to get our food, which was good.

Google
Great prices on food and drinks, especially considering the surrounding resteraunts pricing. Great atmosphere with a lot of seating. Really good pizza. I had both the Mt.Rainer (everything) and The Cleaver (meat lovers)

Google
Tasty burger, tasty beer, good location. Unfortunately they did not have any clam chowder, but that’s okay, we still enjoyed it. We took a break and lounged around for a few hours after some sightseeing in the park.

Google
On a Friday evening this place was not super busy when we went. We got the cleaver pizza which was pretty good. The crust was pretty well cooked with great air pockets, crisp and well risen. The toppings were great as well. My wife felt that they could have used a bit more of the sauce but I liked it. I also got a pale ale to go with it. They have nice outdoor seating as well.

Google
Stopped for lunch after riding the Mt Rainier Scenic Railway. Food quality is very good with a great selection of burgers, sandwiches, wraps and pizzas. Fantastic beer selection.

Google
The food was tasty, and they had gluten free buns, so I was more than satisfied. Since the weather was perfect, most folks were sitting outside on the wonderful variety of seating options. The musician made the vibe even more special. Next time we're at Mount Rainier, we're coming here again.

Yelp
Loved the burgers, beer selection, and outdoor atmosphere. Planning to go back here for post-hike meal when visiting the park again. Not too pricey for it being one of the few options for food around the national park. Timely service and fun employees.

Yelp
5 stars for ambiance and atmosphere. They've got lots of outdoor seating, a great view, and live music! There are a few indoor tables for when the weather's bad. Lots of beer and drinks options. 0 stars for everything else. The line is forever line and barely moves. It took 30-40 minutes to get up to order. (Imagine if you only wanted another beer!) We ordered and got fries as our side. Waited another 30 or so minutes for our food and when I went to pick up was told "we can't sell fries anymore" which I think means they were out.... But bad on them for not knowing when to stop selling fries before you ordered. I specifically choose this spot because the fries looked better than the other options in Ashford and I just wanted some tasty fries. I got the hummus wrap which was about 3% hummus and 97% lettuce greens on a stale wrap. My husband's BLT was meh. Overall fine place if you want to hang out outside and drink. Otherwise the food and waiting game experience is not worth it.

Yelp
Had to drown the burger in ketchup and mustard to semi-forget the look of frozen patty, used on all burgers. Got a side of fries, they tasted horribly freezer burnt and reheated to room temperature. Beer is good. Vibes are chill.

Yelp
After running a 5K in nearby Ashford County Park, I drove over to Rainier BaseCamp Bar & Grill to grab a bite to eat. I had come by here earlier in the week to check out the sports store that is next door. BaseCamp announced that they would be open for all of us runners after the event. This place has a nice chili vibe to it. Basically you order at the window and they buzz you when your food is ready. You can sit anywhere outside to eat your food. The menu at Rainier BaseCamp Bar & Grill has a variety of options that include burgers, pizza and beer. They also have vegetarian and gluten-free items. I grabbed a Mushroom Swiss Burger and a local beer to reward myself for a good run. They have big community picnic tables to dine at, so I was able to make a couple of friends while eating. I had a nice time here and it was a good way to end my week exploring the Mount Rainier area. There is very little WiFi in Mount Rainier National Park and it can be spotty in the areas surrounding the park. Rainier BaseCamp was a good place for me to stop and connect outline so I could get some work done. Rainier BaseCamp also has live music and other events. They offer meal packages for hikers and climbers if you are planning a big hike in the park.

Yelp
Ashford is putting its big boy pants on. They have a burger and brew place now, with outdoor fireplaces and picnic tables. A tad expensive. Burgers are fine but fries were sad and very mid. This place will thrive because demand outstrips supply. Decent patio.

Yelp
Nice experience here on a summer night. We were staying in Ashford after a long day of traveling and hiking, and were pleasantly surprised to find this dinner option close by. They have a pretty varied menu - we decided to split their vegetarian pizza. It was huge, with a pretty hefty crust. At first we were a little bit worried about the balance, but the crust was actually really delicious and something about the balance made it all work. The cheese and toppings and sauce were tasty, and they were generous giving us extra sauce and red pepper flakes on the side. Their outdoor seating options are lovely, and the night we went they had some live music too. We also noticed that they had some sandwich options that you could get packed in advance for lunch the next day, so that's a thoughtful perk. Glad to have a chance to try it!

Yelp
The food was delicious and filling. The service was very accommodating. I really liked the aesthetics of the basecamp.

Yelp
Rainier BaseCamp is a super cute spot to hit up after hiking in the area. There's plenty of outdoor and indoor seating and the atmosphere is pretty casual. We ended up getting the turkey and smoked gouda club to split as well as an order of the truffle fries. The sandwich was good and everything on it tasted super fresh. The truffle fries were also really good and heavy on the truffle flavor, which I appreciated. They have a selection of wines and beers which you can drink outside until a certain point. We sat outside while we waited for our food with a beer and it was a super relaxing vibe. Service was also really kind. We'll definitely come back here to try more of the menu next time we're in town.

Yelp
Good food and vibe! We got the salmon burger and it was delicious and I would get it again. They place live music on Friday and Saturday night. I would recommend to check this place out!

Yelp
Probably can't avoid this place if you're in the area for Mt. Rainier, but travelers be aware: this is probably one of the worst places to eat if you're in the area-- Burger had no flavor; fries were soggy and tasted like microwave; and the sandwich bread was burnt.
google avatar

Kristie J.

Yelp
Pizza was great but the clam chowder was even better! We came here after hiking for the day and didn't expect such a great spot. We ordered our food and sat by the fire it was a really nice experience. The girl taking our order was nice and friendly. Highly recommend the food it was a surprisingly good spot for being in the middle of nowhere.
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
Great spot for lunch after hiking on the mountain. We enjoyed our burgers (meat for him, vegetarian for me). On a sustainability note, it's great to have compostable service ware... but only if there's a compost bin to put the items in. Maybe reusable would be an option?
google avatar

Yelp
Rainier Basecamp is a regular stop for us on our way down from Mt Rainier. The staff is awesome, the food is fantastic (umm... woodfired pizza after a long hike washed down with a beer? Yes please!), and you couldn't ask for a cooler location! The entire footprint for Rainier Basecamp and Whittaker's Mountaineering and Bunkhouse takes me back to the community atmosphere we had while living in Germany. This is my favorite hangout in Washington State!
google avatar

Jack V.

Yelp
Had a pizza and watched Sunday football. Food was good. Seating is limited. Restrooms are next door.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch on our way to Paradise. They were very courteous and accommodating to our requests. Food was fresh and it's a beautiful wooden lodge where they serve food !

Yelp
Came here because the menu said there was pizza, but it wasn't available when we got there. The food was beyond disappointing, but we weren't surprised given that this a town that relies on National Park tourism. Fries were some of the worst I've had. Super bland - don't think they added any seasoning - and texture was either too crispy like a chip or not crispy enough. Need to season it with salt at least. I felt the same about the taste for the bratwurst. The sauerkraut and onions were flavorless. We wanted to sit inside, but it was too hot from all the cooking they were doing and they wouldn't run the AC. It felt like a boiler in there, so we had to sit outside. We tried a few other places in Ashford for the 4 nights we stayed there, and we thought this was the worst of them all. Recommend Copper Creek Inn or Wilderberry over here.
google avatar

Brandon V.

Yelp
Loved this spot, a must do if you're staying in Ashford. We didn't get food but the burgers looked literally amazing. They've got a good selection of local beers on tap. They've got live music on Fridays and Saturday's during summer. Great place to bring kids to run around the area too.
google avatar

Jen M.

Yelp
Yum yum yum. After a long hike and day at Rainer I stopped here with a friend. I ordered a burger and it was so delicious. There was plenty of parking, seating, and things for you to do in the area. It's a "base camp" so you'll see hikers, guides, gear, dogs, children. The overall vibes felt very pnw. There's a bunch of great beer here as well. Especially from central Oregon so it was a pleasure to see a taste of "home" so far away from there. Would recommend to anyone after a hike or just passing through! They also have wifi so great to get things done before you get into the park where there's no wifi
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to stop for a drink or lunch before heading to Mt Rainer . Lots of good seatings with shades. (We came in July to visit Mt. Rainer but the Park required reservation from 7am to 3pm during Summer, which we were not aware of. So we made a stop here to wait for the park open for everyone at 3pm. Recommend you all to check the mount rainer web page for reservation info before visiting.

Yelp
REALLY wanted to go here tonight, but, although Yelp says they were open 'til 7 they won't be open until Dec 20th.
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
We had a burger, wraps and sandwiches. We were starving after a 10 hour day at Mount Rainier so we didn't even bother to take a picture just started eating right away and it was absolutely delicious. We were nervous about what we might find to eat when we came into town and we stumbled on Rainier BaseCamp Bar and Grill and ate there twice because it was so good. As a bonus on Friday and Saturday night in the summer, they have live music and that creates a really cool vibe.
google avatar

Brian D.

Yelp
We stopped here after visiting Mount Rainier. I ordered the Cleaver pizza. Loaded with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and sausage. I loved the pizza dough, soft and tasty. Service was fast and friendly! If I lived here I would get food from here frequently.
google avatar

Pataya X.

Yelp
Great place to stop to grab a bite and drink after visiting Mt. Rainier. I ordered a cheeseburger and truffle fries, which tasted delicious! I also ordered an IPA on tap to complement my meal. I accidentally spilled my drink on the lawn chair. When I went in to order another IPA and let the bartender know I accidentally spilled my drink, he was kind and poured another free of charge. I appreciate the great service and empathy for my clumsy mishap. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Veronica H.

Yelp
Quick service and clean tables. The girl taking the orders was nice, patient, and repeated the order. We forgot to mention an allergy so we went to the back counter and the other lady was snappy and like we were bothering her. Food isn't anything special, but after a long hike, better than nothing. The beer and ciders are good. Preferred the cran raz cider than the huckleberry. They have live music and nice set up. It was a great place to chill out after Mount rainier.
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
Great stopping point for a bite to eat after a day in the park. Good food selections, plenty of outdoor seating, and bathrooms. Food is average, air fried fries were pretty cold, but the sandwiches were decent and hit the spot. Worth a stop if you are hungry.
google avatar

Harlee S.

Yelp
Meh. Nice and friendly staff, but the food is over priced for what it is and not that good. We tried to go to several other restuarants that were ultimately closed and so just back tracked and came here. It's an outdoor eatery with several different spots to sit with overhead coverage. You go up to the order counter and order everything there. Take a number and they'll bring out majority of the order except your sides and drinks. The sides that come with the meal are puny. Maybe three bites which I was flabbergasted by. I opted for the chicken pesto wrap and pasta salad. The wrap had little to no flavor and hardly any chicken. The pasta salad was the best part, but again it was so small. It's best to wait till 12 if you want a good spot to eat in town. On the way back down the road, a lot of the restaurants we went to were now open. Oh well.

Ttime ..

Yelp
I am a self-certified picky pizza guy... The Rainier pizza is, hands down, the best pizza I've ever eaten. It was a little pricey, but what else can you expect for perfect pizza off the side of a mountain. The burger I had the other day was very respectable and my wife gave their BLT a 4/5 star. Happy hiking!

Ken C.

Yelp
After waiting half an hour without service at another restaurant nearby, we were pleased with the fast service here. The food was decent.
google avatar

Neeta D.

Yelp
With the limited options around Mt.Rainier, I stumbled upon this grill while I was Hangry!! Enjoyed the weather while we sat outside, and their wood furnishings were impressive. So captured some of the pics to give others an idea of how the outdoor seating is set up.. they have tables with and without covering at the top and you can choose among the variety of beautiful wooden tables. I just had their pizza "The Rainier" which had pretty much all the toppings I liked. A good experience overall.

Bill B.

Yelp
Friendly service, great place to have a beer and pizza outside. Pizza is super good, but needs more toppings and sauce to the crust, a bit bready. Would definitely hit this again.
google avatar

Alison O.

Yelp
There are very few choices for dining in Ashford.....but we really enjoyed this one. The salmon is delicious and perfectly seasoned. It's a great place to go for a meal and a drink after hiking.
google avatar

Charlie C.

Yelp
Really fresh ingredients , generous portions. We had the salmon filet sandwich which was fabulous. Nice outside seating areas including a fire pit.
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
This was a solid, cheap option that was walkable from our Airbnb. They have live music on Friday and Saturday nights. It was great to sit outside and have a glass of wine after a long day in the park. The food and service were fine - I feel like you come here for sustenance, not a five star dining experience.
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
I've never literally never had worse service and food Like I'm literally shocked this place is even open We ordered a burger and fries for my oldest son and a large Rainier pizza for us His burger came pretty much right away but our pizza literally took one HOUR we timed it After all that waiting they ran out of sausage and onion which was supposed to come on it along with the pepperoni etc They didn't tell us that but told us order up with the buzzer and no explanation... On top of that it was burned on the crust quite a bit and the sauce was just GROSS I wanted to just throw it back at them and demand my money back but I know my wife wouldn't allow it so I just grinned and bore it in a rage $52 utterly wasted in my opinion & they demand to ask for a tip? Are you kidding me ? TIPS stands for TO INSURE PROMPT SERVICE this was not that whatsoever
google avatar

Lacey A.

Yelp
The pizza oven was broken unfortunately but my partner and I each got hamburgers. Pretty good!
google avatar

Sally S.

Yelp
Listen, there aren't a ton of choices in the area and after you've been to the national park all day... it's your best bet. But, the wait times were LONG... over an hour for a pizza. BUT the pizza was really good. It's nice to eat outside and there are a lot of interesting people to chat with!
google avatar

Noel W.

Yelp
If you visit Ashford, WA you will find that there are not many restaurants to visit in this small town. BaseCamp is one of the handful of eateries. Most of the dining is outside on the patio but there were a few tables indoors. Nice selection of beer and a wide variety of food to choose from.
google avatar

Gabrielle P.

Yelp
Definitely an adventure destination. The mountain vibe feeds my soul, the food is exactly what you crave and they have rainier beer on tap The ambiance makes it 1 of 2 of my Top food places to recommend to visitors for Mt Rainer
google avatar

Dalilah M.

Yelp
Loved my Mountain Marmot chicken bbq pizza and Tetons Cider! This is he perfect post hike meal after visiting my rainier. It was so good i had to fly home with my left overs. This place is perfect for big groups as there is plenty of open air seating with lots of picnic benches. The pizza tasted gourmet and fresh out of the oven. Plus, drinking local beer is always a treat!
google avatar

Catherine L.

Yelp
The ambiance is fun for a mountain themed place. I was thrown off by bar and grill... it is not that at all. Mostly pizza and only wine and beer. We didn't have any food since we were hoping for bar food, I don't like pizza. It smelled like it would be tasty! The staff were not very enthusiastic to be there, they seem young and bored.... I wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
After a long day in Mount Rainier National Park, we were starving and looking through the nearby options this spot looked like our only chance at getting decent food relatively quickly. Very fortunately, it ended up being a place we will probably return to on future trips! BaseCamp is super casual with distanced outdoor seating and a bar ordering area with adjacent seating and TV. I was kind of shocked how they didn't skimp at all with the bacon on the bacon cheeseburger I ordered and it came both timely and great-tasting (it could always have been that I was super hungry, too, I guess!) Burgers come with either a pickle or chips/cookie which aren't made on-site and aren't the fries I would've wanted but were good enough additions to be more than filling. On a decent-weather day, this is a spot I'd absolutely recommend to fill up after a day on the Mountain. Since the seating is all open-air, I'm not sure how comfortable it'd be on a very cold or rainy day (though some of the seating is covered).

Jessica S.

Yelp
We LOVED the place. Our cabin was super close and after hiking Rainier this was the perfect spot for our family. Their selection of local beer and cider was awesome. We went two nights in a row. Our kids loved the climbing wall and just hanging outside as a family was much needed. We went one night when they had live music and that was super fun. Highly suggest going here if you're in the Rainier area.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
This place was great. Perfect spot to enjoy the outdoors and treat yourself to a beer after a hike in Rainier National Park. It was close to the entrance and had a variety of food and beer. Pizza was awesome, lots of outdoor seating and friendly staff! Definitely a not miss!

Lauren B.

Yelp
Shitty service, girl at the window told us there was no more fries but people who ordered after us ordered fries and received them. Girl knew nothing about the beer and didn't seem to care because it was time to close when there was a line of at least 10 ppl behind us. Burger was mediocre - no flavor and mostly bun. Would not return or recommend.
google avatar

Grace E.

Yelp
Stopped by after a long hike with my family and got a slice of Hawaiian pizza. I was thinking of getting a burger or brat at first but saw they had slices ready to serve and was so hungry just got one of those. It did not disappoint though and I was fully satisfied with my choice. They have a very friendly atmosphere and love all the outdoor seating. It's the perfect place to go after a day on the mountain!
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
We stopped here before our hike up to High Hut. It was a hot day going up for the night and a hot day coming down after our overnight. We stopped at Rainier BaseCamp before and after. Food is great. Solid customer service and a relaxed atmosphere for people to be outside and yet under cover if needed. Lots of space to sit, or scramble for kids or adults. It's really cool to have RMI and Whitaker Mountaineering at this spot. You can see teams preparing for a Mt. Rainier summit attempt or after they return. This is our go to stop when we are passing through Ashford.
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
The food was just ok, I guess for the area it was the best option for pizza/burgers. We got the salmon burger, it had no flavor or even any sauce. It was a dry piece of salmon without seasoning, lettuce, tomato and onion on a bun. The pizza was average as well. The place itself is nice though since you're outside.
google avatar

Stephy S.

Yelp
GREAT outdoor location outside of Mt. Rainier. There are some slim pickings food wise inside the Park, so we ventured outside to see if there was anything better. We found this gem by seeing a lot of people eating/drinking on the tables/picnic stables on the lawn area. Delicious! We ate here two dinners. The pizza is very good, as well as the panini and wraps. I highly recommend to eat here instead of the Park for dinner. Lots of beers on draft too. It is located right next to the Guide store. PS don't overstuff yourself with too much food so you can play on the rock walls located on the property!
google avatar

Genevieve G.

Yelp
One of the few places to eat in Ashford, but pretty good. There was a long line so we ordered food online while sitting at a table. The burger was pretty good and came with soda and chips, cookie or pickle. Nice place to hang out (if only there were fewer mosquitoes)
