I've eaten at Raising Cane's many times in Las Vegas. In fact, it was a mandatory stop every time we visited the city that never sleeps. Every time we walked away feeling like we just ate the best chicken fingers we've ever had. So imagine our excitement to hear that Raising Cane's was coming to Canton where we live. The location opened a couple months earlier and the crowds were so heavy when we drove by that a police presence was necessary to maintain some semblance of order and keep the cars entering their drive-thru lanes from disrupting traffic flow on Ford Road. So we decided to wait a few weeks till the initial fanfare and crowds thinned out and lines were no longer out the door. We finally made our way to the new location to get our first taste in a few years since our last visit to a location in Vegas. The place was still very crowded with lines inside and drive thru packed with cars. Remarkably despite the long lines, it really didn't take long to finally place our order. However, getting any table was a challenge, much less a clean table. We ordered two baskets (if you want to call them that since the orders are placed in flimsy paper containers). Nothing like I remember as the fingers, fries, garlic bread, cole slaw and fingers sauce were all packed on top of each other in an overcrowded paper boat if you will. Ordering was easy and getting our food was relatively quick. We finally snagged a table, got our drinks, and sat down to eat. That's where the disappointment began. The French fries were not hot or crispy and sadly didn't look they would be. The chicken fingers were warm, but not hot as you'd expect them to be given how crowded the place was. But to be fair, they were warmer than the fries. The real let-down was that they were not crispy at all (borderline soggy) and not very tasty or flavorful-very bland. Their spicy sauce was just alright, but I opted to dip mine in ketchup instead. I'm more a honey-mustard kind of guy, but I never asked if they had any. The garlic bread tasted the way it should, but as you might expect, it wasn't hot either. The Cole slaw (in a small-size condiment container-I'd hardly call it a cup) was cold and tasted alright, but not as good as I remember. Overall the $12 meal was nothing short of a disappointment all the way around. Couple that with the loudness (hard to hear) and the overcrowded dining room with patrons waiting in lines that snaked around the dining room, and it made for a not so pleasant dining experience. At the time that I placed my order, I asked the manager for a rewards card to earn future free food, I was told they had none available and that they were on order. HUH? She suggested perhaps I should go online and sign up for the program which clearly contrasted with online instructions that require you to first get a rewards card when you first visit a location and later register that card online. Just another snafu that made our visit even more a bust. It's just as well I guess, because in order to earn free food rewards, you have to visit often. But given our experience, we probably won't be back anytime soon, much less often. Two stars for this location was somewhat generous. I've eaten at Cane's before and never walked away disappointed. I guess there is a first time for everything.
