The Hottest Takeout Restaurants in Houston Right Now - Eater Houston

"Super spicy chicken is the name of the game at this brand new Houston food truck. Six different heat levels, ranging from “no spice” to “cluck it” are on offer, and that’s not the only difficult decision you’ll have to make. Choosing between a basket of tenders or sliders smothered in cole slaw will also be a challenge. Check out Main Chick’s Facebook page for ordering details and locations." - Amy McCarthy

Could the workers be any worse? They handed me an open box in the bag! You can hear nothing from the speakers and if you could it will tell you the store is closed while it’s open. And I asked them to double check many times if the order is correct and they insisted it was correct without checking and they handed me the wrong drink. Their rudeness is unacceptable at all. If you don’t want to work don’t work, but don’t mess with other people’s work!

Google
I get it, making a sandwich combo sucks because it’s out of the ordinary and an inconvenience. But did the world end? No. So why do the workers make it seem like me ordering a sandwich combo is the worst thing I could have ever done. I apologize for the inconvenience but it’s not my fault I like that damn sandwich. I wish the workers didn’t project that onto me and give me cold fries. And I know they did it on purpose because e the fries on my combo were nice and hot while the side order was cold. Seriously, it’s not that deep, why make it ?

Google
Horrible customer service. Kailey needs to learn how to talk to costumers. She got loud/rude when my friend didn’t order quick enough in the drive through. It was not busy for her to rush us that way. There was no cars in front of me or behind me. This location needs to do better. I’ve never had a bad experience at any canes, but this is the one closest to me. Lucky for her I wasn’t in the driver seat.

Google
I really did get food poising from this location. Just a few hours after eating my box combo I started to feel nauseas and had intense diarrhea every few minutes and then I threw up my whole meal from canes. I still felt nauseous and had diarrhea even after throwing it all up so I had to go to the ER and was told it was food poisoning. I am emotionally and physically exhausted and never eating canes or any fast food again.

Google
This second time that I ordered the box combo this all 4 pieces of chicken tenders more like chicken nuggets first Canes raised the price ls on the menu now y’all down sizing on the food isn’t that price gouging plus I order sweet with light ice for both orders they handed it to with ice filled to the top this has been the second I get bad service not paying attention to customers orders I worked in the food chain industry I try my best to get customers order right im and I mess up I make sure i fix it for them happy customer by the im saving my receipt I’m calling cooperate if doesn’t get fixed with in 2 business days

Google
I’ve only dined at this location once. Today (6/4/2023) I dined in around 2:20 pm and ordered the 3 tender meal with extra toast. The tenders were hot but the fries were not. The Texas toast tasted dry and was falling apart. I asked for fresh fries to be made. The cashier told me it would be a two minute wait and I said fine. After waiting 18 minutes and asked 3 different employees about my fresh fries I finally received them. I was already done eating my chicken by that point. The restaurant was not that busy so the only explanation I can think of is the kitchen forgot. The dining area needs a deep cleaning. I attempted to sit at a booth but three of the ones I walked past were dirty with grease stains and crumbs.

Google
Consistent ever since I tried them years ago! This is no easytask for a chain restaurant!! Kudos to them!!

Google
I ordered this meal directly through door dash , & reached out to them regarding how poorly my food was handled. I ordered a box combo and unfortunately had hair on one of my chicken fingers. I love raising canes and although I personally have never had an issue with them before this , I’ve heard stories about undercooked chicken before but never this. Please take the proper precautions with food handling being that this is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Yelp
The lines are quick and the food comes out hot. I like they serve their tenders with Texas Toast.

Missy Prissy M.

Yelp
I like canes!! the food is really good and the ambiance vibe is so cute especially the Charlie Brown decor!! The only complaint I have is that Canes is so high!!! I wish these prices would drop!!! Other than that, I love canes so much!!

Stefany G.

Yelp
I want to complain that I have never had a issue with any of the employees at this establishment, but I recently applied for a job at my local Raising Canes's (15231 Wallisville RdHouston, TX 77049 USA) I did my interview and got the job but the manager did not act professionally and also the trainer (her name was Hope) was very rude and disrespectful. I would not recommend anyone to work for this company, very bad management team.

Yelp
After grabbing some drinks in the area, I was looking for a quick meal for dinner. Raising Cane's was right across the street so it was an easy decision. I ordered the box combo which comes with four strips, Texas toast, fries, coleslaw, and Cane's sauce. When it comes to fast food, Cane's is at the top of the list for me. Everything is addictive. From the crinkle fries to the crisp chicken to the delicious sauce. And when you can wash it down with a sweet tea or a homemade lemonade, I'm a happy camper. While I didn't dine in, the restaurant was clean. And the service was friendly. Exactly what I want out of a fast food experience.
google avatar

Debi B.

Yelp
Yes I am just here to complain. Paid 78 cents plus tax for 2 extra cane's sauces and it wasn't in my bag. Literally happens every time. STOP CHARGING US FOR EXTRA CANES SAUCE IF YOU WONT EVEN GIVE IT TO US. Or perhaps consider including a canes sauce in the sandwich combo (mind-blowing thought perhaps).

Nathaniel L.

Yelp
Going to canes for dinner tonight I was greeted kindly by two employees outside and they took my order. I asked for a caniac combo with double bread no coleslaw and after getting my order I drove home. Once opening my meal I see that I was given no fries and double coleslaw and one piece of bread. This is a bad look considering the caniac combo is one of the most expensive meals on the menu. Not satisfied.
google avatar

Kiersten A.

Yelp
The restaurant was Clean & had a very friendly staff. Good music and a quick wait for my large order
google avatar

Catherine P.

Yelp
The Cane's was typical and delicious. Drive through is open late, and service is good. The tenders are big, juicy, crispy, and delicious. I got so full off the 3 piece combo. Love their sauce so much!!! Short drive thru line.
google avatar

Yelp
Popped in here after my stomach was screaming that it couldn't possibly hold out until our evening dinner plans. I was in full hangry mode and my poor bf pulled into the drive-through to feed and pacify the beast. Decent chicken although the tenders are on the smaller side. They also don't have much in terms of flavor. The crispy texture was there though. Fries and toast were just okay, nothing special. The worst part was the lemonade... it was some sort of radioactive green color. Super sweet and artificial. Poured it down the sink. I don't have very expectations for fast food but this could have been more rewarding. Probably will skip it next time.

Yelp
I've wanted to try Raising Cane's for so long. I really enjoyed it. You can't go wrong with tenders and fries but the sauce and bread make it a little better. I would definitely get it again.
google avatar

Keiva M.

Yelp
Never heard of this place prior to but thank you to it's founder. It's expensive for fast food but it was totally worth it. Here's why. We both ordered the chicken strip meals. Here's what it included: Obviously: a bev Cole slaw: it was decent for me but my daughter loved it and she dislikes most cole slaws The fries: fresh and fried perfectly The chicken strips: see above plus their special sauce! It's a perfect combination in my SL and JG voice. Texas toast: Wait...oh like this is literal lol and gosh darn it...it was the icing on the cake for me. Until we meet again.
google avatar

Nina W.

Yelp
Tenders still minuscule. Yes I only wanted a a small snack prior to going to rodeo bbq, but this is beyond ridiculous They were also over fried/hard. Toast not even hot. This after wading through 200 middle schoolers to even get past the door. Do better.
google avatar

Yelp
So good the food is amazing love the vibe and the service is really fast live laugh eat

Yelp
Mediocrity strikes again. Now the 3rd bad experience I have had at this location. I'd assume with the menu being comprised of 5 things it would be difficult to mess up. However our orders were both cold, I was missing a sauce, and we were both given the wrong drinks. Hard to justify ever going back. Three strikes you're out.

Nate A.

Yelp
For as far as Cane's goes this is a quality location, drive thru is always fast and inside is always clean. Hot food always
google avatar

Stefanny T.

Yelp
I honestly don't see why people like this place... the food is so bland! The fries would be good if they actually had salt on them . The chicken fingers are good but again NO SEASONING!!! I'll stick with Whataburger

Nikki S.

Yelp
Very fast service and fresh chicken. Great customer service. I'm always surprised how fast the line moves.

anuar c.

Yelp
Great location! Vicente was the best and has such a great attitude with everyone all the time. Great spot.

Nicole R.

Yelp
Smallest chicken tenders possible. Never going back to this location. We ordered the Canniac, I'm not impressed. The food is on point for flavor. Just need to remember that they serve kids size portions when ordering at the Montrose location.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
This is my favorite Cane's location. The fries are salty and the chicken strips are big! Service is great and the drive thru just got a nice upgrade.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
This location needs to give EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE a raise. I got here at 4pm and all of the little middle schoolers walked to this canes and when I tell you I felt like I was in the cafeteria with them is a complete understatement. It was more so a zoo than anything! The staff was constantly walking around asking everyone to take a seat. They were throwing chairs around and being so rowdy that the majority of the actual adults had to leave.

Yelp
Hungry? Like fast food chicken, but have eaten at Ch*ck-F*l-A too many times? Go to Raising Cane's. I have been eating fast food more lately due to cravings and it hits late at night. What drive-thru is open at 12am? Mostly $1 burger places, which I did not want. :( I called and was told they close at 2am and it was a Wednesday. Yes, please. I ordered the Box Combo: four chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Cane's sauce, Texas toast, coleslaw, and a regular drink. I added an extra sauce to my order. -Chicken fingers: fried chicken type breading -Cane's sauce: perfect tang -Crinkle-cut fries: basic, freezer section style, taste, and quality -NO -Texas toast: toasted on one side, bready-buttery deliciousness -Coleslaw: cold, fresh, with nice crunch -NO (K*C's is better) -Drink (I chose lemonade): I loved it. It was so pure. You can actually taste the water, lemon juice, and sugar. It was perfect. I can't believe it, but I think the lemonade is better and not as tart and sweet as Ch*ck-F*l-A. I like to dip each bite into sauce and it seemed 2.5 fingers were enough for the 1 oz. cup provided. Glad I ordered an extra sauce. The menu is simple and precise: Five main combos on the menu + drink choices. Enjoy!

Yelp
This location is beyond disorganized and inflects everything but a smooth experience besides on a very VERY rare 'once in a blue moon'. I've been highly short changed on multiple occasions. My last experience where I brought my receipt back the following day was met with a managers response of 'well, her drawer count was correct at the end of shift.' YEAH BECAUSE SHE KEPT MORE THAN WHAT THE ORDER(S) TOTALS WERE. Then just now, (I kid you not, less than five minutes ago) they have a very doesn't have a single care or takes pride in her work individual working the window. She charged me for the wrong order, a manager had to get called, I assumed the person who snapped at her prior stating 'you need to read orders back! This is why this is happening!' was a coworker over the issues, and even with a manager getting called, the manager personally gave me her original messed up receipt after I repeated my ordered at least three times just at the first window and a fourth time at the second. Since there is no correct receipt, who knows what I was actually charged for and if yet again, I've been short changed. Honestly I was just so over their lack of leadership and organization, they can keep the damn change because a drive thru shouldn't stress you out the way this one does. Personally, it's an AVOID AT ALL COSTS BECAUSE THEIR SERVICE IS A DUMPSTER FIRE WITH NO REAL PROPER LEADERSHIP / MANAGEMENT!!!!

Yelp
Horrendous at night. Ordered a caniac, expecting six full fingers. Gave me chicken nuggets instead. Should've just gone to McDonald's.
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
What is going on with Cane's?! These were ones some of my favorite fast food chicken strips. But why are they shrinking? So price - smaller strips. They are nearly nuggets now. Some of them have such little amount of meat that it's mostly crunchy crust. Come on Cane's - bring back the big juicy strips.
google avatar

Mercedes S.

Yelp
Drive thru is fast and they always get my order right. I've been here multiple times and they always give me good service with the correct order. Good fast food restaurant!

Yelp
This location has gotten a lot better! From their drinks down to the chicken tenders and fries. Perfect when craving a nice warm meal during the day, or late at night. When I first came to this location back in June- nov they were the worst location and really had trouble, so thankful to have given this location a second chance weeks back, they really redeemed from their other bad past experiences I had with this location, they have been very consistent the past few times I came this month!

Yelp
If they had dried fruit in the chicken batter, it'd be Raisin Cane's. If the DEA busted the place for drug activity, it'd be Raiding Cane's. And if the entire restaurant spontaneously orgasmed, it'd be Raising Came. Actually they kind of did when the girl in the pix was in here dining, but that's another story for another day. Or night. Raising Cane's is actually what teachers used to do in England when students were misbehaving (or not). Corporal punishment, as it was called, was only outlawed a few decades ago, and in parts of England it's still thought that it should be brought back. I don't like chains and I don't like franchises, but sometimes I make an exception and this is one of them. Raising Cane's actually makes good quality chicken tenders that are fairly delicious. The only problem is that they are bland. Definitely not made for people who enjoy spices. But if you just want some fried chicken tenders that taste juicy and delicious, then a lot of these locations can do it for you. Especially this one, which is right by my house. They don't have anything good in the way of drinks (the lemonade and sweet tea are a little weird to me), and other than the chicken tenders there's not much to write home about. But I like places that specialize in one thing and one thing only, because they usually do that one thing well. Such as brothels. So take a guess as to what is the one thing I do well.

Jonathan J.

Yelp
If you like chicken tenders, you'll like this place. It's not a hot chicken place that seems to be all the rage lately, but it's just a really solid chicken tender place. Cane sauce is crack!
google avatar

Deborah H.

Yelp
The restaurant went to was clean and seemed to run smoothly. I ordered the combo box. I liked the coleslaw and the Texas toast. Fries were hot and passable. I agree with many others that the chicken strips were flavorless and on the small side. The Cane's sauce is absolutely deplorable. I can imagine it was invented by some 9 year old mixing various condiments and spices and proudly announcing that he created a new, delicious dipping sauce. They offer very few alternatives instead of the dreadful sauce, including ketchup, and a few popular salad dressings.

Yelp
was refused service because i didn't let a car that arrived AFTER me cut in front of me in line. the manager requested that I get out of line and drive around the building to let the car behind me that arrived after me go in front of me. i told her I was there before that car which is how I was in line IN FRONT of the black car that tried to cut me off. The manager still told me I needed to get out of line and drive around the building and by this point since I had BEEN in line there were two other cars behind the black car. When I reiterated that I was ahead of the black car and told her to ask the car in front of me and they would be able to confirm the manager still told me she didn't care ans that she would refuse me service. i have been a customer of canes for YEARS and eat at this particular location at least once every two weeks if not more often. After how rude the manager was I will NEVER eat at any canes ever again despite really liking the food. I had a cop get the managers name and was told it was tiffany. This incident occurred around 2:40 am today, saturday morning 1-20. Corporate please watch the video and you will see the black car pull up after and BEHIND me in the white audi. i have been to this location many times and understand that sometimes the line wraps around the building and when this is the protocol for the line I follow the CONES set out and drive around however them, however there were no cones. Even before the black car drove around the building, i was in line ahead of them. Never in my life have I had an issue like this or been refused service. I am so disappointed in my experience with canes and their management tonight I will never again eat at this fast food chain.

Yelp
I usually have had great experiences with the food here, but today I stopped in to grab a caniac combo (I skipped breakfast & finished up Christmas shopping) at lunch today. Customer service was great, as usual. I checked my order once I got home and was shocked at the size of the chicken "fingers". I feel like I got totally ripped off.

Zakia R.

Yelp
The food is always good here but if you're going to have people in your drive through that don't respect people and their time then they don't need to have a job. If you don't have people skills what kind of skills do you have none. I blame the manager. I addressed the problem to the manager and he brushed it off. No human decency at all. But this is why I eat at home. Thanks for the experience.
google avatar

Mac W.

Yelp
Closed early. Was trying to give another try but here we go. Waited in line only for the we are closed animation. Wasn't even 3:30
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
They're friendly for the most part, but this has to be the third time I've asked for a regular coke and they give me Diet Coke instead. Do I LOOK like I'm 50?! Who even drinks DIET coke?!?!
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
You think it's just chicken. But no. This is the best tenders you'll get around. Fries on point. Bread on point. Lemonade you'd drink a gallon of. I'm never big on drive throughs but this place does it right. Tasty. Might take an extra minute but it's worth it.

Joshua F.

Yelp
Wtf happened to Cane's?? Tenders were my pinky size ! Will never come back! I'd rather go get a big chicken sandwich from Popeyes if I want to spend 10 bucks ..
google avatar

Alan T.

Yelp
Normal good quality. The issue is that when I support a local business, I like to feel appreciated. I walked in and the young lady behind the counter (Aaliyah) just looked at me. No hello, no welcome to Canes, no nothing, she just waited for me to order. I then ordered, paid, and waited for my meal. When my name was called, she handed me my meal without a word of thanks or anything else. I appreciate that the employees are probably minimum wage however management needs to observe and retrain as necessary. This may be petty however is a big turnoff.
google avatar

Justin N.

Yelp
First time at Raising Caine's. The chicken was good, but I don't know I think my expectations might have been to high. The chicken was good but I was expecting a little more favor. Fries, slaw and toast was good. I used the drive thru to order my food and the service was great and food came out really fast.

Yelp
I was asked to describe myself during my first interview into pharmacy school. I thought for a few seconds and said: "well, I love my parents, and I love raising canes!" The people interviewing me were like "no, we meant academically". It's been a few years since that and I can still say the same for myself. I mean, how can you go wrong with canes? Their chicken is so juicy even though it's white meat, it's super crispy with very little grease and the batter is perfectly light and seasoned. The French fries are always hot and fresh, the Texas toast is so buttery and thick and the canes sauce is delicious. Whenever I want to treat myself, I go to canes with my boyfriend, order a Caniac combo with the coleslaw substituted for another toast. This way, we both get three chicken tenders and a piece of toast, our own dipping sauce and enough fries to share. Each chicken finger has 13g of protein and 5g of fat so at the end of the meal I've taken in 39g of protein and I'm not going overboard on the fat. It's a pretty calorie efficient meal of you don't have too many fries and you're looking to cut at the gym! This review isn't just for this location though, this is just the one that I live closest to. This review is for all the raising canes out there. If there's one thing that I think we can all agree on, it's that canes is probably the only chain that consistently serves good food throughout all the locations. I love you canes!
google avatar

Serenity A.

Yelp
Went to the drive thru at 3:25am on a Friday and google says they close at 3:30am , how are you a business and decide to close 5 minutes early? Bad business.
google avatar

Anne S.

Yelp
I have been noticing that the chicken fingers have been shrinking....it makes me sad
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
It's just chicken, big whoop. To top it off only one flavor of chicken, give me spicy please. Wait.... I'm not done! Sorry that "top it off" was premature. I am not a fan of mayo, but I'll take it over their special sauce. Blah *insert barf emoji* The only thing that made this bearable was my company. I'm out dis B.....
google avatar

Rolando O.

Yelp
I always had respect for canes because I knew if I pay a lot I'd get a lot, they are one of the few restaurants with where the food matches the quality and quantity but this is just disappointing. I ordered a box combo and got 4 (I ate one) chicken nuggets not the chicken fingers I work in construction so I don't have a lot to be spending so I have to be very smart with my money. Very disappointed canes
google avatar

J J.

Yelp
As much as I enjoy their chicken fingers and toast, I can't justify buying their food with their recent increase in prices. It's nearly $15 for the same meal I bought a year ago for $10. I will find somewhere else, plenty of home recipes for cane sauce.

Miller H.

Yelp
This Cane's location always had great service - you can tell the employees value the customer's experience.

Dean N.

Yelp
The hours show the restaurant is open till 3:30 am. The security guard informed me that they close at 1 am. I am currently waiting in 30 degree weather for an order than could have been placed cia drive through or security guard or employee

Jason V.

Yelp
Rude, never gives me ketchup even after asking multiple times for ketchup. This is the fourth time this has happened to me at this location, ridiculous !
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Great canes location. Never experienced bad service or cold food here. Order always comes out quickly.
google avatar

Tom P.

Yelp
Service is still great, but the size of the chicken fingers have shrunk significantly. This has been the case on a consistent basis for a few months now. Disappointing!
