Inside Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers First Chicago Location Near Loyola | Eater Chicago

"When the Naperville location opened last year I noted intense demand: the longest customers waited was about an hour, with lines that wrapped twice around the restaurant." - Ashok Selvam

It is disappointing for me to write this, but I feel it is important to share in the hopes of improvement. The food itself is delicious, but I have noticed a consistent decline in portion sizes, particularly with the chicken fingers which keep getting smaller with every visit. Considering the high prices, the portions no longer feel reasonable. In addition, the lemonade flavor is frequently changed and the original version was far superior. I truly hope the restaurant reconsiders these changes and brings back the quality and consistency it was once known for. I would be glad to update this review positively if improvements are made.

Google
Incredible service and staff! Immediately greeted by an extremely friendly cashier, and was given suggestions and very helpful advice for first time comers! Before we sat, the employee cleaning greeted us as well, and told us to let her please clean the table before we sat, which they did quickly and efficiently. The food was fresh, cheap, and absolutely amazing! 10/10 food, service, and overall experience. Definetely recommend this location!

Went through The drive-thru yesterday on the way to work. And the lady at the window was an older woman. Very thin and I couldn't tell if she was brand new or just not capable of multitasking. But she had read my order back wrong and I corrected her and then handed me my order and I left to go to work. Come to find out she ended up giving me a third person's order instead. And the chicken sandwich was drenched in that sauce and I couldn't even finish it. Instead of my unsweetened tea I got a Dr. Pepper. I would have been late to work if I turned around to get my order corrected. Complete waste of money yesterday And for a chicken place that has chicken sandwiches it would be so simple just to offer pickles! They go hand in hand

I went today Saturday the 6th at around 10:13 and I went through the drive thru and a blonde girl with braids was literally the sweetest she liked my eyeliner and she really made my day that’s the type of service I love to see!

Google
Very easy to find canes’s location right off of Route 59 in Naperville. We decided on the three tender combo with bread and coleslaw and the kids combo with french fries. Both were very good and I definitely recommend getting the cane sauce. Kind of like a mix of ketchup and island dressing, but definitely delicious. The lemonade was also very good. The restaurant could use a little bit of cleaning. There was lots of employees not really doing much, but the tables could’ve been wiped down better and the floors

Google
The chicken is just too greasy and rubbery. There's never any salt in the fries. I have given it more than one chance. The only redeemable quality is the sauce. My kids aren't picky and they say the same thing about this place. Disappointed in this location.

Windy C.

Google
Raising Cane's on Route 59 is a gem! The chicken tenders are crispy, juicy, and fresh, and that Cane's Sauce is addictive. Fries and Texas toast are perfect sides. Super quick service, clean spot, and friendly staff. My go-to for fast food in Naperville!

Google
first time visiting!!  to be honest i never really like chicken but...i will say that the chicken fingers here are some of the best I ever ate! i cannot believe the amount of people inside!  its a fast food restaurant but from outside looking in, its packed!  the parking lot is also almost full! the services is great!  to start with, there the friendly cashier taking our order with a pleasant smile!   you be surprise even tho its so busy!  as customers leaving, they got staff cleaning tables!  I am serous, you dont ever see employees at mcdonlad or burger king actually clean the tables!! the food is tasty and whatever they did the chicken it tasted fresh lol!  the chicken fingers are a pleasant surprise.... Canes has a very simple menu you can argue they dont have much choice but yet, the food are very good! My kids love their lemonade LOL

Mike U.

Yelp
The chicken is very good. Large pieces and the sauce is really good. A little to bright inside for me. Service is ok, not raving or bad jest meh.

Yelp
Hard to believe I had not tried Raising Cane's yet, but it's been everywhere in my feed lately, so I decided why not? 1- I love the limited menu. Makes it so much easier to order! 2- Chicken tenders had no crunch, but the chicken meat itself was high quality but could have been seasoned a bit more 3- Fries and coleslaw were OK 4- Bread disappointing 5- The sauce is by far their winner and was AMAZING!

Yelp
Ambiance - clean, large area for guests to enjoy their food Service - speedy, received our food within 10 min Food - love that the batter is super light & well seasoned, paired it with sweet tea (their soda machine was out of carbonation) :(

Yelp
So clean and organized! Located across the Main Street from the mall. It was very busy and bustling but they took care of our order and we placed it in a timely manner and food took a bit but we know it was fresh and hot. Staff communicated clearly and they even suggested a few items from the menu. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Great fast food stop! Excellent chicken tenders and crinkle cut fries were good. My colleague said the Cole slaw was great too.

Yelp
I did not eat here, as I ordered my food to eat at work. But the place seemed nice, albeit a bit dark. People seemed nice - I was picking up my food, and one of the employees here handed it to me - she was friendly with a smile. Food was good, but nothing what I call awesome - its like eating at Chick-Fil-A; its a good sandwich/chicken, better than McDonald's but not mind blowing. Breaded chicken was well cooked, had decent herbs and spices, not hot at all, and was mildly good. Just not awesome good. Keep in mind, my benchmark to chicken fingers is the place nearby the federal prison in downtown Chicago - a place called Mickey's Chicken. It has either closed or is owned by someone else, so it lost its appeal, just like the burgers from that place called Pepper's, which was owned and run by an Asian couple, they retired and now run by someone else, which isn't bad, but ain't the same. Bread was okay, cole slaw was good, but they are just run-of-the-mill sides that seem to come from foodservice companies, like US Foods or GFS. Drinks were as good as you can get from generically run franchises. Among the best, however, are places that mix the syrup with the seltzer water, like that spot that used to (maybe still there?) in the Museum of Science and Industry in southern Chicago. It's a good place, and reliable, so I'll be coming back when I have a taste for chicken fingers, when at work. At home, its a PITA when traveling to either the locations in Evanston, Mt. Prospect, or Shaumburg/Rolling Meadows metroplex. Rating is 3.75/5.

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 Stars I stopped by here with my dad on a Tuesday night around 5:30 PM to go through the drive thru and the place was packed. The line for the drive thru wrapped around so people were starting to block the regular drivers as well. Even though there was so many people waiting for the drive thru we were able to order pretty quickly. The guy taking our order was nice but seemed to have a lot of trouble hearing what I was saying so I ended up repeating myself often since most of the order he repeated back was wrong haha. Afterwards, everyone else serving the customers in the drive thru was friendly except for one girl giving the food out with a red streak in her hair. She had a sour attitude for no reason. We had ordered a CANIAC COMBO. Chicken was juicy and the crinkle fries were well fried as well albeit a little bit bland but they just went very well with the cane sauce which I always make sure to order extra of. I also ordered extra of the texas toast which is good but does not compare to the Raising Cane's texas toast I get in Texas. The cole slaw though was just ok, a bit too heavy on the mayo. The main issue of the meal is the fact that it's so pricy now for what you get. All in all, food itself is great but price is unfortunately climbing up there.

Donisha H.

Yelp
I ordered two cane combos tonight my food was bad my bread wasn't toasted my food was cold I paid a lot of money for my I even ordered extra bread I'm pissed because why serve people something you wouldn't eat.

Lamar C.

Yelp
everything was a perfect ten! the value for the money is the best in the business! ~lciii

Yelp
The menu is sparse. You either order chicken fingers or a chicken sandwich. The chicken is not seasoned and there is only one type of sauce. They don't offer any type of barbecue or hot sauce. The best part of the meal is the bread!!!One good surprise is the chicken is fresh and it is not greasy. You pay way too much for a simple fresh unseasoned meal. This is just not an experience I would return for.

Yelp
My son loves this place! The chicken fingers are always hot and fresh. The Texas toast is pretty good too. I typically go through the drive thru and it's quite fast. The employees are friendly as well. I love coming here whenever I'm in the mood for some good chicken fingers.

Jeffrey A.

Yelp
One of our favorite places to pick up a quick bite. We always get toast buttered on both sides, but they always make us wait on the side because it takes a few extra minutes to butter the other side. There have been a couple occasions where I've had to walk over to complain after watching 30 other people walk past and get their food.

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Good fast food. Clean restaurant. Customer service was great. Everyone was nice and accommodating.

Yelp
Really really good. First time and for sure not the last. Very tasty tender giant chicken strips. Fries were hot and crispy and the bread was toasty. We went there late Friday night. The drive through line was long, however it moved very quickly. PS... It was so much that, I had left overs for the next day. #yummy

Yelp
We love Raising Cane's. The chicken is always hot and their sauce is our favorite. Quick, delicious and great service.

Diane S.

Yelp
Disappointed with Cane's in Crestwood IL. Ordered a combo meal. Is it me, or are the tenders getting smaller. The fries were hard. I ordered a drink. A coke. Seems like the drinks were pre-made. Tasted like colored water. I thought this one would be better. The cost of meals at fast foods are rising. This meal wasn't worth the price.
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
Consistently good service with fresh food. Cane's has a simple menu but it helps with the consistency in their offerings. Dining area is spacious and that of any typical fast food chain. The chicken fingers are hot and hand-breaded and pair perfectly with their slim crinkle cut fries and cane's sauce. Finish it off with a sweet tea and you'll be pleased!

Yelp
Be fare Dinner tonight for my wife this is what I'm gonna make. You know I'm gonna take this restaurant. We're gonna hang out. We're gonna fire up outback we're gonna make roast.

Yelp
We came here on a Wednesday night and the drive through was wrapped around the building. We thought it must be good. Their menu is very basic chicken tenders, coleslaw, french fries, toast, drinks. I like for their drinks that they use crushed ice. Their meal combos are great offerings. I love crinkle cut fries but these tasted stale which was weird because they were so busy. However the chicken tenders were delicious. I also liked the Texas toast.

Yelp
Do you want chicken fingers and fries? Or chicken fingers and fries? They serve one thing here. Can you guess? Yep. Chicken fingers and fries. You can order the chicken fingers in the form of a sandwich though, but it's still just chicken fingers and fries. The chicken is decent. Nicely fried. Nothing that keeps me awake at night, but I'll eat it without any complaint. My family loves it though so I keep returning. The chicken fingers come with a piece of toasted Texas toast (a thick slice of white bread), Cane's sauce ("It's to die for" says everyone but me), coleslaw, and crinkle fries. Admittedly, I'm all about crinkle fries. They remind me of my childhood, but I don't know why. Every once in a while, I'll put on my sweat pants and eat fried chicken. "For them" I say. But also kind of for me.

Emilija T.

Yelp
The workers are so kind here, and the food comed out fast and not soggy. Not to mention the sauce, which I buy extra of so I can bring it home and use it for homecooked meals, as it is delectable. My sister was one of the first workers in this facility when it opened in around 2016 and reported that the chefs work hard and make everything with love. The homey feeling of the decor from high schools and colleges in the town make me and my family feel comfortable in a cozy environment with comfort food. One complaint is that sometimes the seats in the booth are a bit greasy from past customers, but other than that, this restaurant is amazing.

Saad A.

Yelp
5/5, one time they forgot to add sauce for some odd reason but the food tastes so good in general that it's still 5 stars.

Yelp
I ordered the 3-Finger Combo and was content with the meal. If I had a craving for chicken, I don't know if Raising Cane's would be the fix. + The chicken itself tasted very clean. + The breading could taste "bland" to some, but I thought it was acceptable. - The bread was alright, a bit too salty but not enough butter taste. - The fries were ok. - The sweet tea was watery. - I bought the honey mustard as I heard good things about it; It had a very runny consistency with an equally thin taste.

Taylor C.

Yelp
so i ordered a kids meal, as always. got NO ICE in my drink and it was warm. i said something to the girl at the window and all she said was "ok" and didn't even offer to fix it. so tired of spending money on things i don't revive. i also asked for extra canes sauce, and a few ketchup packets in which i PAID for. got none of it. please fire this stupid worker. so tired of incompetent people.

Frank S.

Yelp
I was here on 9/1 and the food was fresh, the service was prompt, and the restaurant was very clean. I highly recommend eating here for a fresh hot meal.
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
Don't know why everyone shits on Cane's, it's easily my favorite chicken place. It's always hot and juicy, and the Texas toast is also decent. It's getting a little pricey, but you can't replace their sauce.
google avatar

Ajay S.

Yelp
If you like chicken tenders, this is the place. There tenders are nearly perfect, but they should expand on their sauces. They give you a slightly spicy thousand island sauce and that's the only option that I could see. There's not a lot on the menu, just tenders, fries, and a sandwich option. They did have hot sauce, but I found that out when leaving. Lastly they sweat tea was good.

KJ B.

Yelp
They have kids playing in the back forgot to give fries on a combo charged me for extra sauce and gave me nothing
google avatar

Mandi P.

Yelp
I hear a lot of hype about this place and figured I would check it out. It wasn't awful but I also wasn't all that impressed. The Texas toast was good and their raising cane sauce is also good. The breading on the chicken wasn't the best I have ever had though. I probably won't eat here again as I prefer the chicken breading of other places over this and coming here for their sauce and toast isn't reason enough to drive out to the mall.
google avatar

Jhenevie O.

Yelp
Their menu is short and sweet- chicken and chicken. I come here once in a while and the chicken is pretty tasty but I wouldn't say it's out of this world last meal type thing. There is quite a line though so I know it's pretty popular. Prices are honestly a little bit overpiced for just a few pieces of chicken, a handful of fries, and a thing of toast. But will I pay for the overpriced chicken? Yes I will! I just wish they came a bit bigger. The pieces I've been getting lately look more like nuggets than tenders! Highly recommend getting the Box Combo for the best deal. Order an extra sauce and switch out the cole slaw for an extra slice of toast. Make sure to get the toast with butter on both sides.
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
Do one thing and do it right. I have to stop in at least 3 or 4 times a year and get myself a 3 finger combo with a lemonade. They've definitely mastered the art of the drive-thru but when it's starting to go around the building for a second time, I tend to go inside as there usually not many people in there. They give you a lot more fries dining in. I've asked for French fries well-done on two occasions, one time it took 15 minutes, the next time it took 10 minutes. I'm not quite sure why. I don't do that any longer. My folks come here monthly, Mom just loves them.
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
I understand that this is chicken, fries, toast and coleslaw but I must be missing something here. There's nothing special about this is there? I've had chicken fingers before and fries and toast and coleslaw and this was as average as you can get. I can recreate this mediocre meal at home and probably have it come out just as average as this was. There is a Mascot named Cane and the story about the dog mascot is on the wall for you to read as you wait for your order. I did read the story and wasn't impressed with what was maybe meant to be a heartfelt feel good story. The decor does include a few assorted footballs helmets from even some local schools. With a dog as the mascot though, are we going for a football or a dog or a chicken theme here? I'm now sure what I'm missing but what I won't be missing is returning to Raising Canes.

Yelp
Stopped by canes tonight just to get overcharged for 6 lousy chix tenders!! 17.00 ouch not that good!?!,.I can go a block or a mile in different directions & do far better! Culver's ; chix filet ; or best of all chik n.spice! Think your gonna loose canes! At least I hope! Waste of a good corner property!
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
These didn't look like anything too fancy but OMG they were good!! I got The Box which was perfect- 4 Chicken strips, a piece of Texas toast, Cane's sauce (which is to die for!), French fries, Cole slaw, and a medium Dr. Coke for $8.99? I believe... you can tell everything was cooked fresh. There were no veins of fat in the chicken and not reheated! Great new find! I will definitely be back here!! Yummo!!

Dean M.

Yelp
This place used to be 5 stars, the chicken tenders were big and juicy and the price was around $8 for a box combo. Now, you're going to spend around $14 for the same box combo, but the tenders are going to be small, dry, and mostly breading. There are occasional times where this isn't the case, but overall the quality has gone down while prices went up. The toast, Canes sauce, and lemonade are still really good though. Make sure you get either the Canes sauce, hot sauce, or ketchup with your order because the tenders breading is not seasoned at all.
google avatar

Adam P.

Yelp
They entire family loves this place. The special sauce is awesome! We plan to go back soon!
google avatar

Vikrant G.

Yelp
I ordered curbside pickup on the app and it was overall a great experience. The app is very easy and efficient to use, i placed my order within minutes. There was a slight delay in getting my order out to my car compared to the promised time, but not much of an inconvenience. I had added a hot sauce on the side, which was not present in my order. The food was great! everything seemed very fresh and good quality. The tenders were a bit smaller than i expected, but very filling. My absolute favorite thing was the Cane's sauce, made everything else taste way better!
google avatar

Ken J.

Yelp
Most of the complaints are from people that don't get it. They only serve a limited menu because they do what they do and do it right. I personally find them to be the best chicken fingers. The Cane's sauce is good and so is their honey mustard. The Texas toast is incredible. Don't complain that they don't make everything under the sun, places that do often don't do it well.
google avatar

Gary S.

Yelp
Food is always hot and fresh. I would recommend to all my friends and family. Definitely going back soon.

Huy T.

Yelp
The taste of the food is always consistent, however the size of the chicken tenders always seems to get smaller ever since they opened. Not sure if this is across all locations but it's terrible to keep upping the price and lower the size. This has become a last resort option due to that fact.

Yelp
I went here out of curiosity as I wasn't familiar with this restaurant chain until they opened their first Chicago area location earlier this year. I love fried chicken (whether as a individual pieces, tenders or a sandwich). I had read up something brief about the this place prior to coming here so I knew they only served Chicken Fingers (tenders). But what I didn't know was how and what all they offered the Fingers as. Upon checking out the menu, I noticed that there wasn't much variety to choose from. It was the Fingers in different counts (three, four, and six) and Fingers sandwich. The main part of the menu offered combos of the different counts of Fingers. The combo included Crinkle-cut Fries, Coleslaw, Texas Toast, Cane's dipping sauce and 22 oz drink. I was surprised that was the main part of the menu and not just the Fingers as ala carte. But they do offer their Fingers per piece if anyone wants just the Fingers and not any of the items from the combo. I ordered nine fingers, a couple of Cane's dipping sauce (extra charge) and a couple of cups of homemade lemonade. I was surprised that they don't offer any hot sauce, spicy or Cajun Fingers or anything along those lines (especially given that they are from Louisiana). I forget right now what was the alternative to Cane's dipping sauce but it wasn't anything special. The Fingers had good texture and were meaty but the flavor was bland. I wasn't impressed by the taste. I have had better. Even the Cane's dipping sauce (honey mustard based I think) wasn't anything special. It was just so-so. The lemonade was decent but nothing to rave about. I have had better. The restaurant was busy and seemed like a popular place. Most of the people who came while I was there ordered the combos it seemed. I did not care to have the Texas Toast or Fries so I did not order the combo. But it's okay. I got to try their Fingers and they weren't really my cup of tea. I most likely won't go again to a Raising Cane's but if I do, I will surely bring my favorite hot sauce with. ;-)

Christina V.

Yelp
So delicious! Their biscuit is amazing! Don't like soda? They have tea options I was told Chick-fil-A was comparable but this was better
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
Simple menu. Moist and juicy chicken tenders. Not a skippy chicken strip. Good breading on the tenders, sauce was tasty, fries and Texas toast were ok. It tastes like Zaxbys from down south. Service was lacking there were two people just standing around that could have been helping the counter and dining room but instead just chit chatting. Cane is the golden retriever I've learned.

Anika S.

Yelp
I love this place, especially the Texas toast! The chicken sandwiches are also delicious and the service is pretty fast and the workers are kind enough.

Yelp
I've been curious about Cane's since it opened and finally popped through the drive-thru just the other day. I was tired, busy, and needed a quick and easy dinner I didn't have to think about, so Raising Cane's seemed like the simple solution. Like other Yelpers have said, their menu is small and straightforward. I knew this going in and didn't have a problem with it. I'm all about a limited menu if you can do one thing and do it well. That being said, I just thought the food was OK. I ordered the 3 finger combo which comes with three chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, one Cane's sauce, Texas toast, and a regular drink (22oz). I don't remember exactly, but I want to say the meal cost me like $6-7. The chicken tenders were smaller than I expected, but surprisingly they still filled me up along with the sides. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, but I thought it lacked flavor. It needs some extra spices or something! Cane's sauce was good and a little tangy, but I would have liked some other options like ranch or honey mustard. The crinkle fries were great! Texas toast was a nice touch as well. It was very buttery and not as crunchy as I expected, but still good. The 3 piece combo IMO is definitely a solid amount of food for one person. Service was friendly and the drive-thru was fast. Will I be back if I need a quick cheap chicken meal? Sure. But Raising Cane's is not on the top of my list of favorite fast casual foods in the area.

Linda B.

Yelp
Mediocre at best. The food was hot when I got it but that was the only high point. The chicken was under seasoned, chewy, and dry. The fries that came w/ my combo meal tasted funny, can't really describe, just strange, so I ate some of the other fries I ordered and at first I thought they were ok, but they didn't taste good either. Bread is salty but ok, nothing to write home about. Overall, a very disappointing trip to cane's. I won't be back.

Yelp
I was oh so excited when I was in Naperville for a wedding and learned there was a Raising Cane's! Coming from Vegas, where Cane's are aplenty, I'd been missing it's deliciousness since relocating to Chicago. It is delicious! As I mentioned in my Vegas reviews, it took me awhile to come around to Cane's. I was initially put off by the small menu and lake of options. Plus, I'm not much of a chicken fan. (This was probably due to my ill-fated experiences with KFC as a small child.) But but but... When I did finally take a chance on Cane's and try it, I was hooked. Completely hooked! Yes, it's just chicken fingers. But yet, they're not *just* chicken fingers. These are meaty, crispy tenders that are perfectly cooked. And bonus, they still taste good the next day reheated (and that's a pretty big rarity for fast food). The crinkle cut fries are totes fab. Pro-tip: Go ahead and order some extra fries. The sauce is like crack to me. I don't what all is in it, but I literally lick that little sauce container so none of the goodness goes to waste. Another pro-tip: Be sure to order some extra sauce so you can dip both the fingers and fries into it. So on to this particular Cane's location. It's got ample seating and is very clean. Not a single speck of anything on the tables, by the drink area, on the floor, in the bathroom, etc. I was pretty impressed with the cleanliness. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. But our order took quite a long time. Not sure what was going on there. But I suppose I'm also used to the speediness of going through the drive-thru at Cane's as this was one of the first times I've actually done dine-in. In sum, this is an awesome addition to Naperville.

Yelp
I can see why this West Coast chain has made it over to the Midwest: great food and cute, casual place to take the fam! At first I was surprised that the entire menu consists of just ONE main dish: chicken fingers. Though, after trying them: yes! Super juicy, crispy and great dipping sauce. The box combo was a great deal for $7.50.. 4 chick fingers, Texas toast, fries, coleslaw and drink. If you register as a rewards member with a Cane's card, you can get 1 box combo for free. Other posters have commented on the wait. YES, there can be a significant wait time depending on orders ahead of you. That's cuz it's not frozen tenders like from Burger King. They taste fresh, like real chicken. For sauces they have their own (some zipped up version of 1000 Island) OR honey-mustard.. that's it. So an option of BBQ would be nice. I'm sure little kids would like ketchup, which they surprisingly didn't have either. REGARDLESS, my kids absolutely loved the food and we'll be back.

Yelp
So, the good news about all the buzz surrounding this place is they're getting crazy amounts of business. Police directing traffic around the building, drive thru lines out onto the street, and all the other fun rumors I heard living in the area is what drew me here to try it. The bad news is, it sets everyone's standards hella high because you're expecting this incredible, mind altering, chicken finger nirvana. And unfortunately, they didn't hit the mark. My husband and I tried this place a couple of weeks ago and when we got there there was no wait in the drive thru. Ordering is simple because there's literally only chicken. We each ordered a "Caniac" and took it home to eat. The chicken fingers are good, don't get me wrong - really crunchy, amply sized, hot, fresh, and appear to be real chicken. However, it's still JUST chicken fingers. Nothing different or revolutionary. No exciting technique or specially seasoned breading. I was most excited about the famed sauce I'd been hearing about and that too fell short for me. Sure it's good - but chik-fil-a sauce is better. RC's sauce is super savory, but it'd be even better if it had some dimension to it, a little sweetness, a hint of spice, something. The coleslaw and fries were good. I'd likely come back if I was in the area and jonesin for chicken, but I wouldn't make a special trip.
