One of the best dinners we had in Mexico City! The service at Raíz was beyond amazing! Every team member was warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about each dish. We decided to share all of our plates, and they thoughtfully split and served them individually without us even asking. The pacing of each course was perfect, and their recommendations for both food and cocktails were spot on. Every bite and sip felt intentional and elevated. Truly one of the best meals and dining experiences of our trip! Michelin-worthy from start to finish.

We chose this place to celebrate a friend's birthday. We ordered everything a la carte. The pacing of the meal was entirely off. Without asking, they served every appetizer by round and we ordered 4 appetizers. Some of us ordered several tacos as the main dish whereas some ordered only the entree without any tacos. Again without checking with us, they served tacos first and then entrees. We spent 3+ hours at this place and everyone felt tired. The server didn't take any notes for our orders and they messed up a few dishes. We would appreciate it if he could note everything down instead of trying to impress the customers with "good" memory. The food itself is okay, nothing too memorable. Unique ingredients but the taste and combination of flavors are just above average. If this is the only fine dining you're going to try in Mexico City, I'd recommend skipping it. Given the experience we had, I don't think this place will earn any Michelin stars to be honest.

Huge disappointment!! 4/5 people got food poisoning from the visit. Despite a promising start and accommodating service for our dietary needs (vegan + pregnant), Raíz was a major letdown. The venue and drinks did not align with "fine dining" expectations, and the tasting menu was surprisingly bland. We paid 2000 pesos / person (100EUR). The situation became more serious during the night and the following morning when 4 out of 5 of our group fell ill with food poisoning. Notably, our vegan guest was the only one spared. When we contacted the restaurant to ensure they took corrective action, we were met with a defensive response. Rather than taking accountability for a significant health risk, they offered a discount for a future visit and suggested that we, the guests, pay for their laboratory food testing. For the most expensive meal of our trip, this was an unacceptable failure of both culinary execution and basic food safety protocols.

A stellar experience! Everything we had was amazing, but some things stood out as better than the rest. Scallop tostada, fried oysters, lobster appetizer, lobster tacos were the best of the best. I thought the octopus was not up to the same par as the rest, but still very good. Service was impeccable. We ate at Raiz, Filigrana, Pargot, and Esquina Común all in 5 days. Raiz was my wife's favorite of the bunch.

The most underrated gem of a restaurant in Mexico right now. Went with our two vegetarian friends, one of which we were celebrating. The atmosphere is very cozy and private, we didn’t even notice the other patrons in the restaurant. The service was beyond attentive and kind. This restaurant was the highlight of our trip. Thank you, Raíz for an incredible night.

Overall, Raíz in Mexico City was an average dining experience. The service was decent but nothing exceptional. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to expectations – it felt bland and underwhelming, lacking the depth and flavor I had hoped for. While the ambiance and staff were fine, the meal itself didn’t leave a lasting impression.

Raiz. For my first night in CDMX, my wife and I wanted to treat my mother-in-law to a tasting menu: something she never had experienced before. I love a tasting menu, and a showcase of a chef and kitchen's talents. This is the perfect type of thing to highlight the pride and creativity of Mexican cuisine; you are in one of the greatest food cities in the world. The interior is like a comfy Mexican study. The staff is attentive and considerate; generous with their recommendations and hospitality. They even called to give us some instructions cause of a protest across the street at the Venezuelan embassy for easier access. Our courses were absolutely delicious. My wife and mother-in-law got the 6-course tasting menu and I went with the 9. If you like a tasting menu or want to introduce someone to the experience, Raiz does not disappoint. The amuse bouche is one of my favorites, cause I love looking at people's faces when they get such a small appetizer. I am not going to post all of the dishes here, cause part of the experience is the sensory look of the plates, but I will say the pork belly and escamole were two of my favorites. I will also say that the tasting menu portions were generous. If you're celebrating a special occasion or want to dip a toe into all that CDMX has to offer, give Raiz a try - they are wonderful. Last night at Raíz was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Every dish felt intentional. Nothing on the plate was there for decoration. Every ingredient served a purpose and everything tasted genuinely delicious. The staff made the night even better. They were warm, thoughtful, and spot-on with their recommendations. They even offered to split dishes so we could try more of the menu, which made the experience feel personal rather than performative. Raíz deserves more than a mention from Michelin. It feels worthy of a star. Top-notch experience from start to finish.

What a delightful experience! Dining room ambiance is classy and comfy. Every table was taken on Thursday night, and for good reason. Food was delicious, and creative without being over-the-top. Highlights for us were the grasshopper taco, the duck tostada, the brisket, and the honey dessert. Service was friendly and professional. Manager was very attentive without being overbearing, and sent out a couple of complimentary treats beyond the amuse. He also provided an excellent Mexican wine rec (a Cab, Merlot, Syrah blend, available by the glass.) Great value for money was well. Overall I'd put right up there with the best places we've hit in CDMX, along with Pujol and Lorea. Well done!

While in CDMX, a colleague recommended this place (she joined us as well), so we all came here for dinner one night. What I absolutely loved about this place was how unpretentious it was. They were also very accommodating and allowed us to order both tasting menus, as well as a la carte. (if you have a party of 8+ you aren't able to do this). This was the main reason we opted for Raiz instead of Pujol or Quintonil while we were in town. My son ordered the 9-course tasting menu, while his girlfriend, my colleague and I ordered a la carte. Between the three of us, we had 9 full sized dishes. I was able to taste almost every dish served. Some of the dishes I ordered were the same as the ones from the tasting menu, but full portions. The first thing I noticed was how generous the portions were. I was pretty much getting full from my first two courses, but everything was so good I continued pressing on. On the whole, of course, some dishes stood out more than others. For instance, Zarandeodo Fish was simply sublime. Crispy skin atop melting flaky flesh. Another favorite was the Grilled Asparagus Salad. I was blown away by how complex the flavors were for something so simple. Same goes for Vegetables With Molé... So simple, yet so tasty! Some dishes were very interesting, for example, our Amuse Bouche of a maiz ball with bits of grasshopper. The accompanying green sauce was just the perfect start for opening the palate with its tart notes. There were dishes that were just okay, such as the Smoked Cod Tostada -- I had expected a little more smokiness. The Beef Tartare was also, just okay. Overall, we had a really lovely time. Service was great and the overall experience was simply very memorable! The open kitchen concept allows for a nice view of the Chefs at play. 4 stars for food, an extra star for service.

Ambiance: 4 Service: 5 Food: 5 Drinks: 5 This unassuming spot will pleasantly surprise you. Don't let the no frills look fool you. The cuisine here is on par with any 5 star restaurant with complex flavorful dishes that have an authentic flair. The chef started off with a complimentary tasting of what I can only describe as carrots on a chip. But no words can describe that delicious buddy of flavor from that dish. Next I had a mezacloni or something like that. But it was a basically a mezcal Negroni which was perfect. And I should know because that's been my drink all summer. Finally I had the fish Zandeado. You've got to let the good folks there describe it to you. But it was delicious, flavorful, and authentic - like you can't find that dish in the states. Pro tip: sit under the canopy it will just make for a better experience.

I've been to Raíz twice. Both times have had a great experience. Food - 4.7/5 - The tasting menu does not disappoint. There isn't anything daring or exotic flavors; however, the food is delicious. Value for food is good. $1500 pesos for 9 different dishes. Other honorable mentions, my aunt ordered the tacos tasting menu and really enjoyed it. 5 tacos for $430 pesos. Service - 5/5 - from servers, to manager, hostess, and bartender all great. We were looking for lychee martinis since they had it on their menu the first time we went. They didn't carry them anymore but the bartender was able to use her mixologist skills and came up with a very similar concoction with ingredients I would have never thought of. I appreciated them their to accommodate us instead of saying no and leaving it at that. Those gestures go such a long way!! Ambiance - 5/5 - this is a restaurant you can come to for a date or with family, business, colleagues, etc. This is not a trendy loud scene. You're able to converse comfortably while you enjoy your meal. Overall, I don't think you can miss if you come to eat at Raíz for lunch or dinner. Great food, drinks & service for a reasonable price.

Unfortunately there are much better food options in Mexico City than Raiz. We went to Pujol the night before and I would recommend Pujol over Raiz. Service is great at Raiz but the food fell short. There wasn't really any dishes that stood out to us. Presentation for the two color soup was nice but I wasn't a fan of the taste. We tried to be adventurous and ordered the grasshopper taco. Be careful as I almost chocked on the grasshopper as the legs got caught in my throat. They have a nice cart of mezcal and I enjoyed the one they recommended to us to try.

If given only one choice between Raiz, Garum, Quintonil or Pujol, I would definitely pick Raiz. For years I have obsessed about coming back to CDMX for the tuna tostada. This trip I didn't even mind the tuna tostada. The cedron ice cream is something I will be coming back year and years to come. As simple as it was, the other memorable item I slurped and scrape the dish for was the cranberry oat bread and olive oil -- Delicate orange notes with a slight bitter finish.

Raiz exceeded our expectations! The service was attentive. The cocktails were fabulous. But the food is the reason to go. The attention to detail was evident in the preparation. Flavors were complex, yet balanced. I highly recommend!

I loved this place! A friend was visiting and wanted to go to Pujol the same day (he was not getting the point it was impossible) and thence were given this restaurant recommendation by another restaurant. It was a Monday and there weren't many people. The food was spectacular and so was the service! It was a couple of months ago but it was memorable. The next day we went to Pujol for lunch and felt that the food at this place was the same, if not better, than Pujol's at a third of the price. Highly recommended.

Good food but extremely small portions and a bit overpriced. Had much higher hopes after reading other reviews.

A lot of places tend to get negative reviews since they don't know how service is in Mexico, if you're in a rush, I would eat at a fast food place, dinner will take about 2-3 hours. My actual review: as soon as we walked in we were asked which table we wanted to be seated at, I love choosing, so of course I was happy that I got to pick the table. We were asked for our preference in water, then brought a cocktail list and dinner list. Waters arrived then we were able to ask questions in both Spanish and English. Everything was explained to us as best as possible. I ordered the tasting menu, which is probably the best thing to get if you're not picky. Every course was more amazing than the last, and got to practice my espanol with the servers and they got to practice their English. Had a wonderful time, and thought the experience was more memorable and tasty than Pujol and Quintonil. TL;DR: Got the 9 course tasting menu, well worth every peso. The staff was on top of their game, from food to the service everything was on par to a Michelin star level restaurant without the pretentiousness.

Not worth your money! In a city full of delicious food, I think there are far better options. The service was okay, but we felt a bit awkward as they were pushing us to order certain tequilas that we didn't enjoy. The one redeeming quality was the small plates (amazing aguachile!), but the main dishes were underwhelming and dry. We were also EXTREMELY overcharged for tequila ($90 USD for two drinks) which was disappointing given it was local Mexican tequila. We felt a bit scammed. Overall would not recommend!

This place is just fabulous. We knew they have tasting menu with wine pairing, and this is what we ordered. The food was fantastic, wine selection excellent. We had 9 courses, all of each were beyond delicious. I'd like to mention among them especially foie gras with mole powder, sea bass ceviche with chille sauce, and guava dessert with flan baked inside guava. They have wines from France, Spain, California and several great Mexican wines which were new for us.

Israel and Alfredo Chavez and Neftali have put and awesome tasting menu. While I think of myself as a groupie of Israel and Alfredo, they seem to have outdone themselves. Their previous venture was absolutely awesome and now they seem to be catching on again with Raíz. This is definitely an up and coming restaurant in Mexico City that are completely set themselves apart from the old burned out flavors of long gone Pujol, Biko, and sorry to say quntonil. Definitely an experience to be had of contemporary Mexican food with soul. Def. a highlight

Easily the best meal we have ever had in Mexico. We went for an early dinner (7:30) and enjoyed impeccable service throughout the evening. Highly recommend the meat apache (beef tartare without the egg) that is made tableside. The process is a delight to watch. It's delicious, with so many flavors and sensations. We also were over the moon about the pork chest, and the seasonal vegetables. The beef tacos were divine. We went a little overboard with our ordering, but enjoyed trying a variety of dishes. Love how they serve you with a fork and spoon one handed. What a gem!! Highly recommend!

Outstanding service. They were always attentive and brought out the next dish pretty much when we as we finished a dish. They gave you new utensils with each dish. The food was fantastic! Excellent presentation of the food. Note, portions are on the smaller side which means we were able to have an appetizer, main meal and dessert without any leftovers. As an added bonus, they accept Apple Pay!

Insanely delicious food and probably the best meal I've ever had. The dessert was so good it almost made me cry. They were also very accommodating of my vegetarian diet and altered the tasting menu to replace the meat dishes.

WOW what a restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous space, attentive staff, divine creative Mexican cuisine, great wine selection. My friends and I were blown away. Don't miss this gem.

This restaurant definitely has a lot of potential and most of the food was good. The roasted beet salad was our favorite and consistent with other reviews that we have read. For our entrees, we got their octopus special and lamb. Octopus was fine but would have been better if they chargrilled it a little to give it some crunch. Lamb was not what we expected and came out more like tajine, which we do not enjoy. The service was top notch - final touches on every plate were done by your wait staff table side - but you could tell the staff still has some work to do on being more coordinated and in sync with each other. All throughout the night, kitchen staff would be walking in and out of the front door carrying towel covered trays. Their kitchen must not have enough space in the back but the way the restaurant is laid out, the staff had to walk right through the middle of the dining room each time they needed to get something. Restaurant is small so make sure you get reservations in advance. I would definitely recommend trying despite the flaws.

Given the reviews and the pictures, we made a reservation in advance and were expecting to be impressed, but we really weren't -- about pretty much anything. We felt like the restaurant was trying to be a lot fancier than it actually has the resources to be. To start with, the service was terrible. We were given drink menus and then left alone for a very long time before anyone came to take our order, which was strange given there weren't many other diners, and a lot of waiters milling about. After we ordered drinks there was again another long wait before anyone came to take our dinner orders. Then, there was a bit of a kerfuffle with our order due to the fact that we had received English menus (we would've been happy with Spanish ones as well) but most of the waiters didn't speak any English. Overall it was just a bizarre combination of lack of attention, miscommunication, unwelcoming attitudes, and just lack of care. Second, the food. With the exception of the beet salad, we weren't particularly impressed with anything we ate. The tomato salad was ok, the rib eye tacos were not bad (but nowhere close to our favorite tacos in the city), and the octopus in a mud/clay enclosure was cool to look at, but incredibly over-salted. The cocktails were pretty good, though.

Fantastic neighborhood gem with authentic, bold and imaginative Mexican cuisine. Everything is prepared to delight all the senses with beet salads so colorful and beautiful you feel bad putting a fork in them. We had the scallop tostadas, need tongue and octopus cooked in clay in addition to the beet salad. All were imaginative, perfectly seasoned and balanced and delectable in their own way. The decor, atmosphere and service couldn't be any nicer!

While in México City, dined at Raíz, Pujol & Cedrón ( in that order over the span of 3 nights). Raíz was our favorite! The blend of high quality food, service & environment was 5*.

We had NYE dinner at this place. Amazing! Great tasting menu, very courteous service and mariachis to celebrate!!! We had welcoming cocktails, and each dish was described to us in detail. Highly recommend!

This is a great place for a formal and beautiful dinner in CDMX. The entire staff was attentive to our needs. They presented us with an appetizer before our meal. Our meals were simple, elegant, and delicious! Followed by a very tasteful dessert! Thank you for a wonderful night

This was the best restaurant we dined at in Mexico City. The food had unique bursting flavors. I'm vegetarian and there were so many options available for me. I had the roasted beet salad which had grilled beets rather than roasted beets in a delicious hibiscus dressing. The tarascan soup was unbelievably delicious and must order! The dry noodles is also very flavorful and was good, but not great. My carnivore friends said the steak apache was the best dish on the menu. We ordered for dessert the guava celery, mole, and chocolate coulant. The mole had a strong flavor and nobody in our group enjoyed it. We enjoyed the coulant the best. The service was impeccable and I would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting MC!!

Israel and Alfredo cuisine is honest, crisp and clean. No tricks in it.

A restaurant that makes you say "OMG!" after every bite. Located in Polanco area, it's a perfect option to surprise family or friends with delicious dinner or pick the group of internationals visiting the city for fun or business to try really awesome traditional-gourmet Mexican food. Wine list is great and please save some room for dessert! It's amazing!

On this 2nd trip to Mexico City, we wanted to have another fine dining experience. On our previous trip, we ate at both Pujol and Quintonil. Both of those restaurants were excellent and memorable. Another reviewer stated that they enjoyed Raiz more than Pujol and Quintonil and so we decided to give Raiz a try for our one fine dining meal during this trip. (Also, we tried but could NOT get a Friday evening reservation for either Pujol nor Quintonil a couple of weeks in advance.) On a Friday evening, it took an hour to hail an Uber and fight traffic to get to Polanco area just 6 miles away. So plan accordingly to make it on time. From reviewing their website, an appealing option at Raiz was that you could order a la carte or a tasting menu. We were presented with the a la carte menu and had to ask about the Tasting Menu. The server told us that it was 11 courses and named a few of the dishes when we asked what was being served on it. We decided to go with the Tasting Menu. (By the end of the meal, we noticed that we did not see any other tables that night had ordered the Tasting Menu.) Service throughout the meal was professional but inconsistent and a little impersonal. They have a team approach to servicing tables so any of several servers in the small dining room might bring the next dish. Things that were neglected were refilling water glasses, not sweeping crumbs off the table between courses (but we saw a server do that at another table), not very many smiles and no acknowledgement of celebrating a birthday dinner. The food was well prepared, visually appealing and tasted good. I can't say that there was any one special dish that really amazed me and stood out but overall it was good. At the end of the meal, we requested if we could have a copy of the daily menu, which seems printed in house on paper, as a souvenir. They obliged and even had the chef sign it. What was surprising was that they signed and gave us a copy of the Tasting Menu. This was the first time we saw the actual Tasting Menu. Why the heck didn't they show us the Tasting Menu before we ordered while still considering whether to order the Tasting Menu or a la carte menu? I had even asked what was being served on the Tasting Menu that day and the server recited some items but not provide a copy of the Tasting Menu at that time. We assumed it was because the chef would make whatever was fresh and available that day. We would have enjoyed our meal more if we had known what we were eating during each course. Yes, the server did present and briefly describe each course as it was served, but it was often difficult to understand what was being said. A dish that was NOT on the tasting menu but that we saw several other tables order was the steak tartare. The staff prepares this tableside starting with a fresh chunk of steak, proceeding to slice and finely chop it with a huge cleaver on an enormous natural cutting block, adding seasonings and then serving them on tostada shells. It's a marvelous presentation that takes a good 10 minutes of tableside prep time. The Tasting Menu is relatively good value compared to those at Pujol and Quintonil. Raiz' 11 course tasting menu was $1300 Pesos, equivalent to $70 US. Pujol and Quintonil are about $110 US. From start to finish we were there almost 3 hours. If you celebrating a special occasion, I would recommend Pujol or Quintonil. While we had a good experience at Raiz, it was a slight let down after having excellent experiences at Pujol and Quintonil. Yes, it will cost more at those places but you will also remember the experience and feel special.

After four days in CDMX and seven in Oaxaca, Raiz gave us the best meal of the many we ate. Recommended by the concierge at Las Alcobas in Polanco (a great hotel, btw) we enjoyed the simple elegance and quiet of the room, the expert and attentive but not bothersome service, and of course the delicious and comprehensible food. Other top menus seemed to think baffling complexity was a virtue. Not Raiz, where the flavors were clear and comprehensible even when new and unfamiliar. Wine by the glass was excellent, particularly the Mexican reds. We liked the first night so much we came back the next. See image of duck breast in red mole (the color comes from beet).

Absolutely outstanding, out of this world delicious food, punctuated by superb service, presentation, ambience and value. I would, and will, most certainly recommend Raiz to anyone and everyone I know who is making the worthwhile trip to Mexico City. One of the best dining experiences we've ever had!!

Very well presented take on modern Mexican cuisine. As a vegetarian I found ample choices, each of which was very good. The service was also top notch. My companions agreed that this was the best spot we'd visited in CDMX so far.

En inglés y en español para q transcienda! After three attempts to make reservations we made it! The beginning was great and the service seemed very good! We started with the Apache tartar beef which was very nicely prepared, served, and very tasty! I ordered the foIs gras and it had more chocolate than foIs! Although creative, not very well executed or impressive... The black bean soup was very nicely and elegantly served but insipid and the garnishings despairing. What did it was that we ordered the filet as the main course to "share" explicitly stating in our mother language Spanish- no chance for misinterpretation- and the bill came w two orders!! We love to eat and pay for what we eat but we hate when we are fooled and cheated! Too bad for Raíz and its captain who attended us! Hopefully they will correct this so it doesn't happen to others! Que pena q un lugar con potencial se equivoque de esta manera! No tenemos problema con pagar por buena comida. Nos gusta y es de hecho nuestro pasatiempo. Pero que nos timen no se s opción. Muy desagradable. No lo recomiendo. La comida tampoco fue nada del otro mundo. Prefiero La Buena Barra de Polanco y hasta El Balcón del Zócalo. No me gustó la experiencia.

So happy that riaz is now in Polanco! They were in the North before and did well. The place has indoor/outdoor seating, is tastefully decorated and is perfect for dinner. We chose an organic Casa Madero wine to begin the meal with tacos de pulpo and guacamole. The English-speaking drink expert was very patient and knowledgeable. The kitchen sent us a sample taste of a Oaxacan cheese filled platano that was supurb. The kitchen is new, airy and OPEN. Everything on the menu is explained and of course, I ask even more questions. A huge influence in the food and decor is from Oaxaca. The delicious sopa tarasca came with some beans called 'vaquita' due to their white and black spots and cooked al dente according to the chef who explained that he did not want the beans to peel in the liquid. This bean was a first for me and was accompanied by a huitlacoche brioche that the Aztecs would have been proud of. Our table ordered the lengua in mole-husband loved it, the lamb au jus, client loved it and I had the tacos rib-eye, enjoyed them as well. I did not see a chicken meal choice which would have been better, but their menus change seasonally and everything was fresh. Also, raiz does have a tasting menu of nine items that merits a future visit. We cleansed the palate with a signature cocktail, suggested by the drink expert based on our personalities of the evening. I had a strawberry mezcal concoction, very light and well mixed, husband likes it extra hot and had a serrano/mezcal drink he raved about and our client had a tequila, rosemary and ginger drink that was gone in minutes! Raiz does a great job - the room is calming with well-spaced tables so it feels very intimate without being formal. Black walls and an exposed kitchen and somehow they pull it off. The service is professional, old school without being stuffy. The food is excellent - fish tacos (such a cliche and excellent!), the soups, the oysters. Everything was very fresh and innovative. This is a great choice!

Went to Pujol the night before and Raiz was just as good, if not better. Excellent Mexican wine recommendation, great service, and flawless dishes. All in a beautiful space. Highly recommend.

Excellent preparation, fantastic menu, great ambience and impeccable service. You will not be disappointed. Had the catch of the day aquachile, dry noodles, beans soup and the tomato salad. All incredibly well done.

We ordered the Ostiones Rasurados and they were delicious, the "Tacos de pescado zarandeado" were delicious, the baked cauliflower was also very good. I love to try real Mexican food and this place did not disappoint, you will find dishes from different regions in Mexico.

Food was amazing! Chef Israel certainly knows how to delight his guests with an incredible combination of dishes and flavors. You cannot go wrong with whatever you pick from the menu. Do yourself a favor, order several items and share with friends or family. You will remember this piece of advice. Ambience and decor are great and service was impeccable as well. We will return!

Outstanding food and took their recommendation on wine, and could not have been more pleased. The staff were exactly what you would expect at a top restaurant and the chef came out to meet with us, and share some details of the meal. Do not miss the Apache Carne! Every course was a new adventure for the taste buds, that were absolutely delicious!
