"Virginia-born RĀKO Coffee signed a lease this week at HQ2, the Amazon headquarters taking root in Arlington with 140,000-square feet of open-to-the-public retail space. The new RĀKO will include espresso beverages; a natural wines program from women winemakers, owners, and growers; craft cocktails, and light bites." - Stephanie Carter

"Virginia’s women-owned RĀKO Coffee Roasters will open their first brick-and-mortar location on Saturday, August 28, in Clarendon. The day-to-night cafe will serve hand-roasted, single-origin specialty coffees, fun coffee drinks like lavender lattes, ginger rosemary lattes, and a 'Coco Spritz.' The decor includes floral wallpaper and plush velvet booths. They plan to serve natural wines, cocktails like espresso martinis and coffee Negronis, and seasonal dishes. Another RĀKO outpost is in the works for 14th Street, with a cafe at Logan Circle’s soon-to-be-renovated Studio Theatre. During the Clarendon opening weekend, RĀKO will offer $1 coffees and specially priced natural wines." - Adele Chapin

I love everything about Rako. The coffee is roasted to its perfections. Got to smell and taste all the aromas of the coffee...I can drink it in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening ...Love the selections of coffees from all over the world. Its amazing.. The packaging is so beautiful, I use it as a special gift to my business partners and friends...will continue to use Rako for years to come.

Decent beans, better than compass at least. Horrendous customer service. I have been receiving subscription service from this roaster for probably about a year, but suddenly the beans stopped coming but the charges continued. For months. Despite emails to every customer service email I could find and direct contact through their website, no response has been received over two months. Had to make a claim through my credit card.

We just placed our second order with RAKO coffee roasters and I could not be happier! Their coffee is fantastic - our favorite is the Guatemalan blend. I love that you can mail back the coffee bags for recycling, too.

Full disclosure: I roast coffee as a hobby. I got three bags of Rako roasted coffee for Christmas. Excellent product. The package came from the company attractively wrapped. I do not know if they did this because it was Christmas or if is their standard practice, but it gives a pleasant impression to open a package that looks like they went out of their way to make it look nice. My gift consisted of two bags of Ethiopian coffee and a bag of Guatemalan coffee from Huehuetenango. Each bag was roasted in a way that brought out its coffee's flavors. For example, the Huehuetenango coffee has a characteristic sweetness that is ruined if it is over-roasted. This was roasted to perfection. I recommend Rake coffee. Try it.

Rako coffee is the best coffee I have ever tasted. I especially enjoy the Guatemalan Huehue and the Espresso roast. I recently ran out of Rako coffee and purchased coffee from some local roasters. What a contrast! The Rako coffee was so much superior that it was like comparing ashes to great coffee. I highly recommend Rako coffee and getting on the coffee subscription so you don’t run out.

Ever since I moved to Nova, I've wished there was a greater selection of 3rd wave roasters. Rako definitely delivers on that front! Large selection of fresh roasts with free shipping in the DMV.

Rako Coffee is amazing! The taste is unlike any other I’ve had. The storefront at their roaster location is awesome too. Definitely recommend.
