Forest Gate’s Best Restaurants | Where to Eat in Forest Gate E7 | Eater London

"It’s more likely that visitors will smell Tromsø before they actually see it. The waves of tantalising cinnamon perfume that dance on the wind promise nostalgia, joy, and comfort. All manner of cakes and buns are found at this Scandinavian bakery but it is equally good for a lovely lunch. The Norwegian waffles are a must try; spongey and slightly sweet, they are a delightful cushion for smoky sausage and crispy onion. An open mackerel sandwich on dense, dark bread is lifted by pickled radish and fresh cucumber, and warm cinnamon buns, twisted into soft and delicate knots, are an entirely expected highlight — best paired with homemade blueberry fizz." - Shekha Vyas

Nordic Calm & Local Charm at Ramble Cafe – Forest Gate Tucked under the railway arches near Wanstead Flats, Ramble Cafe E7 offers a peaceful escape from the bustle of East London. With its minimalist décor, soft lighting, and friendly staff, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down — whether you're grabbing a quick espresso or settling in with a book and a cinnamon bun. The menu leans into Scandinavian comfort food: smoked salmon sandwiches, flaky croissants, waffles, and those now-famous cinnamon rolls — sweet, spiced, and perfectly sticky. Coffee is a highlight here, consistently praised for its quality and depth of flavour. Vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful, and the café caters well to different dietary needs without compromising on taste. Service is warm and attentive, with staff who genuinely care about the experience. The atmosphere is relaxed and inclusive, ideal for solo visits, casual meetups, or quiet weekend brunches. There’s also outdoor seating, takeaway options, and a loyal local following that gives the space its welcoming energy. Prices are reasonable, and the quality is consistently high — making it one of Forest Gate’s most beloved cafés.

Stop by to pick up coffee and something sweet before heading to Wanstead Park. Everything look delicious, lots of mummies with their kids in the room.

Tucked away under the arches just by Wanstead Flats, this café really is a hidden gem. The space has an unpretentious charm, with exposed brick and a relaxed, welcoming feel that makes it perfect for a quiet coffee or a catch-up with friends. The coffee itself is fantastic — rich, smooth, and clearly made with care by someone who knows their craft. What truly stood out though was the Basque cheesecake: creamy, delicately caramelised, and tasting exactly as it does in Spain, a little slice of the Basque Country right here in East London. The staff are warm and genuine, the atmosphere easygoing, and the whole experience feels authentic without trying too hard. If you’re near Wanstead Flats and in search of something special, this place is well worth discovering

Came around at 11:30am. Soup was piping hot as they came freshly cooked. Cream of parsnips soup was balanced and had a lovely touch with the parsnip crisps. Butter was hard, which was due to the cold weather. Lychee and coconut drizzle was with a sweet glaze, the cake was moist. Would come here again.

Cute cafe tucked under the arches. Wouldn’t recommend for working as there’s no wifi, a one hour max limit on laptops, and limited signal to hotspot. But a lovely spot for coffee and a toastie. Vegetarian and vegan options available.
