Ramen DANBO West Village

The ramen was great! Probably one of the best ones I've had. But, can we talk about the service, Gui, Lily,and Rafeena were absolutely amazing. They're all very friendly, attentive, and answered all our questions. They made my experience 10 times better. I will definitely come back.

Ambiance (4/5): The establishment is quite small and therefore very tight. No place to really hang coats or be comfy. The line queue outside went pretty quickly for us—approx. 10 minutes being the 3rd party of 2 with a 6:45p weeknight arrival. By the time we finished, the line was about 8-10 people in queue who already had an order slip in hand. Service (5/5): There was 2 servers on the floor and we were serviced very quickly. Our food came out within 5 min. Although we didn’t feel rushed leaving, expect a quick meal and clear out for the rest of the guests waiting in line. Tonkatsu Ramen (5/5): I love the ability to customize my bowl of ramen to my liking—from the thickness/firmness of my noodle, richness of broth, spice level, toppings! The ramen excels in its broth which has so much umami that it’s hard to beat. The charsiu pork pieces would typically dock a star for me, due to its thinness, portion size, and aired on a little dry. The extra soft boiled seasoned egg was a nice plus (+$3) to an otherwise bare bowl (only has green onions) Recommended: thick noodle, standard firmness, spicy, thickness/richness strong, karadare yes

Ramen Danbo is one of the few places that has an equally elaborate Vegan menu as their regular menu, and it is hands down one of the best vegan ramen places in the city The vegan Miso Ramen was very flavorful with a great balance of broth and noodle. I highly recommend getting the extra tofu with the bowl as the normal serving of 2 feels less The vegan gyoza were nice, but not necessarily a must try

This place is SO delicious. Absolutely love the ramen here; it’s incredibly flavorful and customizable (can choose thickness of noodles , richness of broth, spice level, and add toppings)Food comes out pretty quickly, they are open late, and have a digital stamp card. Definitely would recommend.

Our group of five came to Ramen DANBO to celebrate our last BMCC class. It's close by and the service was really fast. The restaurant was quiet and not crowded at the time, the food was delicious, reasonably priced, and there was a good variety to choose from.

Tasty and authentic ramen in the village. One of the rate places to have vegetarian and spicy options. The tiny restaurant and booth stills seating arrangement adds charm to the delicious food.

The ramen is top notch. I love that they give you choices to perfect your meal. Small complaint- I ordered the noodles standard and they were a little undercooked.

We have been here atleast 20 times and we really love this place. This place is easily one of the best ramen spots in nyc and a must try! Our server Lily is always welcoming and gives us a good service.

Letter grade: Grade Pending as of Oct 2024 Does not take reservations The restaurant is narrow with bar-like seating on the left and table seating on the right. The spacing is not great for those who need wheelchairs and those who need high chairs. One usually has to walk down the aisle sideways when the restaurant is close to capacity. The ordering system is not great. You get a piece of paper with your options and a blunted pencil. The waitstaff is unlikely to come by and check in on you again until the end, so it's best if you made all the food choices the first time around. Adding an order later seemed inconvenient. If only they can add an ordering option to their QR menu... The ramen itself is delicious and I can see why the place is popular despite the above. Overall, this was a unique customize-your-ramen experience worth trying.

This is one of the relatively more affordable ramen places in the West village! It's a cute place, but wish they were more staffed as it takes a while to flag a waitress down and we waited 15 minutes for them to take my card. They have vegan and meat options - and I always get the shio ramen with an extra egg, and a draft beer on the side! Broth is pretty good and they let you customize everything - including the firmness and type of ramen noodle as well as the spices for the broth. Their apps including the gyoza are all pretty good too.

Great ramen, the tomato tonkotsu is delicious, love the ability to customize everything and it's a a quick meal.

Very solid ramen in Manhattan - 9/10. I love how customizable the ramen is from the choice of broth to the thickness and texture of the noodles. Ordering is very easy here as you fill out a piece of paper with your choices and customizations. Also, draft beer for less than $5! I went with the classic miso broth with added spice, egg, seaweed, and have to go with the extra chashu pork. Overall very pleased. I also got to try out the negi-goma broth which I will order next time. Fun note - This restaurant that originated in Japan also has a location in Brooklyn, as well as locations in Australia and Toronto.

This was where i had ramen for first time and fell in love! Love the level of customization they offer specially with spice and richness of broth. I did ho to other ramen places later but this remains most favorite. Totally no frills but great food place. Their toppings and gyoza is delicious too.

A full place of smiling people, with a moderate size waiting line and a rapid turnover can only tell you this was the right place to go for dinner. A local friend had recommended for us to eat here and god it was worth it. The menu was simple and we went for the traditional and the miso ramen to which we added a boiled egg and extra spice for a kick. It was delicious and the portions were ideal! Next time I'd probably try it with thicker noodles, but don't regret anything on this first visit. The place is tight, simple, so don't look forward to staying for long or having an after dinner conversation.

Ramen Danbo was a bit of a letdown, unfortunately. The ramen was nothing special, and included lots of upselling for ingredients that most other ramen places would include by default in their meals. Service felt confusing, with our appetizer coming out several minutes after the ramen. Add to that a beer line apparently exploding all over a server, and it makes you wonder if this is another West Village building being held together by duct tape and chewed bubble gum. All in all, not an impressive showing, and not a place I'll seek out for ramen in the future.

Quick service and casual atmosphere. I ordered the curry ramen and it was truly delicious. I definitely will be going back for more! We had reservations and got seated right away but there are plenty of wall seats for walk-ins.

Solid ramen spot with immense customization. This spot was vegan friendly with an option for an entirely vegan ramen bowl. When you visit, you can check options to fully customize your ramen: pork broth or vegan broth; miso, tomato, and other bases; richness and intensity; spice level; thin or thick noodles; and more. I thought the ramen was hearty and filling. Good umami flavor without being overly brined.

Very solid ramen! Negi goma ramen comes with a lot of sesame seeds and strong sesame oil flavor. Standard charshu and ajitama. Noodles are nice and firm. They allow you to customize karada in your ramen which is a umami spicy sauce apparently. Gyozas are solid too. Each table comes with this garlic butter paste. It goes well with ramen and gyoza. There's no free kaedama, but regardless it's still much better value compared to ichiran. Service is subpar the server is not attentive. Ambiance is authentic Japanese ramen place vibe. Will come back!

A solid ramen spot with a streamlined menu. Ideal dinning room with comfy booths and stools w/ a bar counter. One FOH member was able to accommodate a 80% full lunch rush. Quick. Good. Satisfying

Delicious. Cheaper than others, and their tonkatsu broth is fantastic. Added 4 pieces of chasu, an extra full serving of noods, and a large draft Sapporo and all that for $26. Way cheaper than ichiran, ippudo, and just as good, if not better. I went an hour before closing and it was pretty empty so had all that attentive service all to myself. Also good for loners like me as they have a bench facing the wall to enjoy. Loved it.

Came here because my wife is vegan and it was the first thing we saw. God rewarded me today. Listen I've never been to Japan, I'm not a ramen connoisseur by any means, but this was quite literally the best bowl of ramen I've had in my lifetime. Everything was perfect -- i got the standard ramen served spicy w/ an added soft yolk -- i came in Jewish - i may have left a different religion. Incredible. Edible magic. Love this city.

This place reminds me of ichiran! I actually felt like the ordering style using a sheet too check off your customizations, the noodles and even the broth was pretty similar and I liked ichiran a lot so this was great! We got the classic tonkotsu and the shio and followed all the recommended customizations plus added on eggs to both our bowls Classic - 4.25/5 super yummy! The broth is light but very flavorful. The medium spicy makes it even yummier and I might try making it spicy next time. The noodles compliment well but are on the slightly harder side which is just preference I think. Eggs were jammy and delicious too. The meat was thin and flavorful and I prefer this type since it wasn't overly fatty Shio - 3.5/5 similar but less strong more salty version of classic. Still good but in comparison classic is way better Onigiri - 1.5/5 mostly just rice needs way more filling. Pork flavor was decent tho

I absolutely loved this place. I didn't do any research and just randomly stumbled upon it for my lunch. The food came out so fast and it was so yummy. I ordered the lunch special which came with the gyoza and tonkatsu ramen with added seaweed and egg. It totally caught me off guard with how good this place was. Will go again!

A fellow Po-Goer recommended this place to me because they said it was similar to Ichiran. Yesterday, and coincidentally during a PoGo walk, I ended up unintentionally walking down the block and spotting the storefront. I expected it to be super-crowded for some reason, but decided the universe had brought me down its path for a reason, so I was meant to stop and have lunch. It was actually quite calm and empty, so I was seated right away at the long row against the wall. The similarity to Ichiran lies in its ramen-customization form. It had almost all the same options with the exception of the one to negate scallions or control garlic level, and a different set of add-ons. I chose the classic tonkatsu with a rich broth, mild spicy. Now, while I won't say this beats out Ichiran or Ippudo (my current top ranked ramen joints) I had a pleasant experience! They give you a wonderful moist towelette for hand-cleaning pre-meal and there was ambient Japanese music playing. Additionally, I added a boiled egg to mine and I'm gonna recommend all ya'll do this because something about letting that egg baste in the broth delighted my tastebuds. I should have ordered TWO eggs just for this experience because it's a match made in flavor heaven. The broth was also delicious, which is something other ramen places can forget to put effort into. Also, AWESOME competitive ramen prices which is why I recommend you give this place a shot because the price is well worth it.

I think I came in during a bad time because I was sat at the counter and left unattended for 15 min until I had to ask for a menu. The space is pretty small and they do take a waitlist when it starts getting busy. Nevertheless, my bowl of ramen made up for the lacking impression. Miso Rekka 8.5/10 The broth is rich and packed with umami, a whooping amount of garlic (which I love) and some of the best al dente hakata-style noodles Ive had. I do wish there was more depth of flavor as it started to taste a bit flat towards the end, but their homemade spicy paste is bomb!!!

Cozy and affordable! The chashu is tasty and not too fatty, and the tonkotsu broth is super rich. Doesn't come included with all the fixins but you can add them on.

The service was quick - we were seated immediately on a Saturday night and got our food in literally like 6 minutes. The food was so flipping delicious. Maybe it's bc my girl and I were both just trading illness to each other all wknd, but IT HIT THE SPOTTTT. So warm and creamy and soothing and flavorful. Loved it. ~ Pork Broth Ramen w/ sesame oil, specialty-roasted sesame seeds and fresh scallions (3.5/5) ~ I love that they allows customisation of noodle thickness and firmness. I picked thick + firm noodle, and I really enjoyed the noodle texture! The pork broth is good, but I personally think it is not rich / strong enough. I love the roasted sesame seeds and scallions, they added a nuttiness and freshness to the ramen. Overall it's a solid ramen. Will I be back? Maybe I am still exploring the ramen scene in the city, there are a lot of good ramens out there waiting for me to try. So I wouldn't say I will come back specifically just to eat their ramen. But if I am in the neighbourhood and craving for ramen, or if I needed a late night quick dinner, I may come back.

Basic good ramen. Not outstanding but def not bad. Just a reliable ramen spot. The prices are really good. We got two bowls of ramen plus extra noodles and two sides of dumpling for $40. Not bad. What stands out about Danbo is you can pick your own noodles (thick or think) and how much umami you want in your broth. You're also able to pick how rich you'd like your broth. This was a nice touch. I would go back. The place is low key. Not crowded and the service was good.

Delicious ramen. Rich, creamy, filled with umami. Noodles were firm and chewy. Service was lightning quick too. They have lunch sets where you can pair your ramen with sides or drinks to make your meal so much more worth it. The place is small and can be filled with people so better to visit during odd hours.

Tasty food, huge serving! It's a busy spot so we were lucky to get in for lunch. Kept our water glass full, although I'm not sure my richness level actually ended up getting taken down on my soup. Close quarters make it cozy. Definitely stop in.

Okay so one. This is top two best ramen I've ever had in my life, and it wouldn't be a hard fight for the top spot. The vegan negi-goma is for those that like for their ramen to be rich! I added some spice and got a normal amount of the spice paste and it was almost too spicy for me. Almost. The earthiness of the spring onions and the richness from the sesame oil coated my mouth enough for me to survive. Besides the broth, the tofu was a star. They don't just chop it up and throw it in as an after thought. It is loved and cared for here. The tofu is firm and marinated and reall stands out against all of the other flavors. Everything was just delicious. I got a bowl of rice to sop up the extra broth near the end and left plump and well satisfied.

Food is always delicious and well priced for portions! Highly recommend the gyoza. I am a big fan of their vegan ramen bowl, it is the best vegan ramen bowl in the city!

Ramen Danbo served one of the best bowls of ramen I've ever had! My friend and I were pretty hungry and decided to stop by here! I liked how the menu had pictures, helpful information and explanations, and customizations. We ordered the Classic Ramen and Negi-Goma, both with the Chashu and soft boiled egg add-ons. The ramen broths were incredibly flavorful. The chashu pork was sliced very thinly (which I liked) and was very tender. The eggs were jammy, but I did add some soy sauce to mine for more umami. I did like how they had soy sauce and garlic paste on the tables to adjust the flavor. The Negi-Goma was very sesame forward, just as expected. It was very flavorful, but I can see how it could be overpowering to some. Overall, I highly recommend Ramen Danbo!

I stumbled upon this place on a rainy night with a friend and was so pleasantly surprised! The noodle texture was perfect and so were the flavors of the broth. I really loved the quick nature of the restaurant and will be coming back for a comfort meal!

The food at Ramen Danbo was incredibly delicious! If you decide to stop by, you should definitely try to go during lunch since they have different lunch special options where you can get free toppings and sides. Since I have eating restrictions, I had the Vegan Negi-Goma Rekka Ramen. You can tell if a Ramen place is really good if they are able to do vegan broth right and justice and my ramen was full of so much great flavor! My friend had the Classic Rekka Ramen and she also found it to be great. You can customize your Ramen too by changing the noodle thickness, the broth level, etc. Additionally, there is also an option to order extra noodles after you eat the first round, but I found the portion sizes to be generous. My friend and I shared our sides that came with our lunch special and I tried the vegan gyoza and donburi and both were delicious. Highly recommend making a stop here if you are looking for some high quality ramen!

This was the perfect place for lunch on a cold fall day. The noodles were perfect, the broth so rich and flavorful, with a nice little kick to it. Only complaint was the soft boiled egg was cooked more than I would prefer, but that's a mild note compared to how wonderful everything was. Portions for lunch were perfect, not too small and not overwhelmingly large. Definitely a great spot for a delicious bowl of ramen!

It was our first time here so we both got the Classic Ramen with our own customizations. The ramen really reminded us of our favorite ramen spot Ichiran's, from the noodles to the broth. The only difference was in their eggs. Danbo's eggs were just a littleeee more cooked than I'd like them to be, but delicious nonetheless. Ichiran's eggs are good but you would have to peel them yourself and they aren't already cut open unlike Danbo. We both agreed that this is our new favorite ramen spot since the ramen is so similar and it isn't crowded!

Extremely fast food service. Otherwise a typical ramen joint with a lot of wood and uncomfortable seating and a nice broth that took them a long while to prepare. Idk if I'm missing something but I couldn't imagine going out of my way to dine here--many of the gushing reviews strike me as hyperbolic.

First time trying a ramen with a good vegan option for my daughter who doesn't eat meat. Ramen was prepared according to my specifications and the soup was delicious. Will definitely come back again.

Incredibly robust vegan ramen? Ramen Danbo is THAT girl. I ordered the sesame ramen with vegan egg. As we know, sesame flavour can be very overpowering, yet Ramen Danbo works its magic to create harmony between sesame and other ingredients. My wife ordered the spicy miso ramen with vegan egg. The miso ramen's broth is beautifully layered in flavour with a hint of sweetness! The elements that set this place apart from the rest is the flavour profile and the ability to choose the thickness of your broth. The service is always fast and smooth with an inviting ambience of the space. My wife & I have been visiting Ramen Danbo for almost 3 years and we continue to be amazed, every single time!

Vegan ramen - yes please!! Small place but moves fast! Seating is tight so the larger your party the longer you have to wait for a table at peak dining hours. As a solo diner I was seated quickly in a bar seating area. Food is fresh & comes out quick! The vegan ramen was so tasty!! I prolly will get the basic vegan negi goma ramen next time which is super mild but not bland. This mild rekka one I got had a little kick to it.

One of the best and authentic Japanese ramen place in New York. I had classic ramen and so simple with three thin slice of charsiu pork and scallion and chili miso ball on top. All together these are needed as Kyushu ramen and enough as basic. Their noodles are extra thin just as one in Kyushu and cooked perfect, Al dente. Pork soup is very well done without smell and fat also is not salty. That charsiu pork belly tasted so good though fat piece is not fatty. House made gyoza was also perfect balance of vegetables and pork with spices. If you notice some Kyushu ramen place use sweet soy sauce but this is just good and chili oil on every table. Surprisingly this ramen is $11.50, One of the lowest price ramen and highest quality ramen in New York ( just my opinion).

Come early as it gets quite busy. You're able to customize the ramen from the softness of the noodz to lightness of the broth. Flavorful, just enough portion, and everything just done right! So glad we came into this restaurant - it was like getting a hug from ramen.

This was my second experience with Danbo ramen (first was in Vancouver.) The interior is not quite so nice but also there wasn't a 1+ hour wait like the other location. The ramen itself was some of my favorite I've had! I love that the ramen is fully customizable from noodle size to every topping. There are also endless vegan options (it appears there are as many as the traditional pork options!) I opted to add a soft boiled egg and the gyoza for the lunch special and really enjoyed both of these. Definitely worth coming here for the food and will be back!

I feel extremely hoodwinked by all the great reviews. I was hopeful that the ramen would be great, but it was such a let down. Classic rekka ramen + egg add on (13.45 + 2): broth lacked depth I hoped for. The Chasu was very thin and didn't have much flavor. The egg I added on had a weird rubbery texture just on the outside. Overall a disappointing meal, which is a major bummer.

the negi-goma rekka ramen was so good, would recommend! i think it's the sesame oil flavor that made it stand out to me. one of the cool parts of the menu here is that you can customize everything from noodle type, noodle firmness, to spice and saltiness. the only downside is that the default bowls don't come with any toppings besides scallions and 2 pieces of pork so you'd need to add seaweed, eggs, etc. the chashu pork bowl was also good but pretty small for ~$7. for the mochi, both were good but the black sesame was better than the mango.

Definitely one of the best ramen I have ever had! I love the noodles, super light and soaks up the broth nicely. I really enjoy their ramen eggs and the Chasu pork was super flavorful and not fatty! The broth was delicious but not as spicy as I wanted it to be. I tolerate spice well so maybe I shoudlve got max spicy level... The cod roe was super fresh, definitely flavorful and savory. Rice was also seasoned well. I came in when it wasn't busy, so the service was great. They attended to us right away and very quick with the order. I love the ambiance, very calm and relaxing. Overall, definitely a nice and chill place. I know lots of ramen spots are packed but this one is definitely a nice find!

Food: 5/5 I ordered the Classic Spicy ramen, y'all I really thought I could handle the heat BUT this level of spicy had me CRYING LOL! Honestly embarrassing but that's beside the point. I ordered the ramen which tasted delicious, along with the vegan gyoza (chef's kiss), & a side of white rice. You can also customize your ramen (noodles, thickness, spice, etc). All of it came to $28 (incl. tip) which is SO CHEAP! Best bang for your buck! Also, a great spot for my vegetarian/vegan friends! :) Service: 4/5 Service was good, reccs were on point as it was my first time here I typically like to ask what is best and they said you can't go wrong with the classic which is true. Our food came out pretty quickly too! My friend forgot her water bottle and the hostess came out to let us know which was super sweet! Vibe: 4/5 The restaurant itself is quite small and definitely "cozy". The tables are pretty close so you may hear other people's conversations, which is not necessarily a bad thing LOL. Tbh I was pleasantly surprised that a ramen spot in WV is so affordable & tasty!

It was an okayish experience. I have had better ramens. Not satisfied. We tried three types of ramen.

I stumbled upon Ramen Danbo on a rainy afternoon, which is the perfect weather for some noodle slurping goodness. They have a pretty great lunch deal, which for +$3.50, you get a plate of gyoza and a ramen topping of your choice. I ordered the vegan Negi-goma Rekka Ramen ($13.45) which came with two thick slices of fried tofu, a dollop of their togarashi paste, and a ton of scallions and roasted sesame seeds. My friend ordered the same thing, but the non-vegan version which came with two slices of cha-shu instead. Having tried both, I personally prefer the vegan version as the tonkotsu broth is made from miso and mushrooms, which leans way sweeter than the original pork-based version. The sesame oil and roasted sesame seeds also give the bowl a beautiful, nutty fragrance. The ramen comes in the classic Hakata-style thin noodles, but I personally prefer the thicker wavier ones as they soak up and grip the rich broth easier. The two of us didn't realize this option was available so we ordered the wavy noodles as kaedama ($2) to split between us. As for the gyoza, they were alright nothing too special. The staff are super friendly as well. One of the waiters came and fixed out wobbly table for us without us asking which I really appreciated.

This Ramen danbo has slightly more space than the Brooklyn location but the same great menu. It's in an easy to spot street in Greenwhich village. I decided to try the sesame flavored broth this time, but it was a little too overpowering for me. I think I'll stick to my usual standard vegan ramen broth. Service was quick, if a little bit rushed.

Very quick and friendly service. We ordered vegan gyoza--which I thought was a bit mushy, and wouldn't really order again. I got the vegan classic ramen, medium spice, with a vegan egg. The ramen noodles and broth were perfect and it was actually a decent amount of spice. I would pass on the vegan egg--the egg yolk is a bit grainy. I'm not sure what it was made of but it didn't really pair well with the soupy noodles.
