"The city’s ramen scene has grown significantly over the past decade but it’s a suburban Palatine strip mall restaurant that’s churning out some of the finest tonkotsu in Chicagoland. A 15-hour cooking process yields a rich and intense pork broth that’s good enough to drink on its own. It’s paired with chewy egg noodles imported from the west coast and tender braised pork. The kitchen also serves a spicy Taiwanese-style ramen featuring chicken broth, ground pork, garlic, scallions, bean sprouts, and green chives. Ramen House Shinchan offers indoor and outdoor seating, and takeout or delivery via third-party services. There are sister locations in Vernon Hills and Glenview." - Naomi Waxman

LOVE, LOVE this place! They are always always BUSY!  Probably due to their fairly priced, delicious food and amazing customer services!!! This place is amazing, especially their services!  Even when they are busy their servers are very very attentive and caring! Just when you think all servers suck, lazy and slow…especially after covid, nope, not here! A lot of restaurant after covid, their bill will recommend you 18%/20%/25%, I went to a bell sushi place meaning they don’t even serve you but when the bill come they recommend you 20%/22%/25% BUT NOT HERE!!  Their recommend tips is still 15%/18%/20% even when their level of services is 1000% better than everyone else! Love their miso ramen, boiled eggs, the bowl of heavy veggies come w/ your ramen

Loved this place. Everything was fairly priced and delicious. The chicken karaage was probably my favorite dish, so crispy and fresh. Really liked that they give you kewpie Mayo with it as well. We also got the curry ramen which was the perfect combination I wish I saw more. We also got the best condition ramen which had loads of flavor, but very heavy on veggies. I will be returning many more times. The Shoyu ramen was good but not my favorite, and the Tonkatsu ramen was better than the Shoyu but not as good as the curry ramen.

Google
Absolutely phenomenal. Everyone here knows what they’re doing to a tee. Caring, attentive servers that care about treating you well and making sure your food gets to you as soon as possible. Most times I come here, I’m in and out within 30 minutes (ramen should be eaten as fast as possible in my opinion.) Everything I’ve had here over the past 5-6 years has been incredible but their tonkatsu ramen is so incredibly delicious and indulgent that I have to recommend it to anyone who is going for the first time. Friendly, caring staff that makes sure the customers come first. All time fav

I got the best condition ramen with tons of fresh veggies and spicy broth. Very good!

My boyfriend and I caught up with family over ramen and sushi at Ramen House Shinchan. For drinks, we enjoyed large Sapporo's, Hot Green Tea, and Cold Green Tea. For appetizers, we shared Tako Karaage (fried baby octopus served with lemon) and Unagi Q Roll (eel and cucumber roll topped with eel sauce). The other guests in my party enjoyed Katsu Don (deep fried pork with egg sauce and onion over rice), Spicy Butadon (grilled spicy pork with scallion and soft boiled egg over rice), and Taiwan Ramen (egg noodle in a flavorful chicken broth with spicy ground pork, garlic, scallions, bean sprouts, and green chives). I loved the Miso Ramen, which consisted of curly egg noodles in a creamy miso-based pork broth with tender braised pork, halved soft boiled egg, scallions, cabbage, onions, and carrots.

Google
We visited tonight for the first time, and we’re not disappointed. It was bright and welcoming, with the other customers being just as friendly as the employees. One of our table neighbors overheard our conversation and jumped in to offer selections, asking us what we like in our food. The portions are LARGE, and my crunchy noodle dish turned out to be a memory trigger, making the meal even better than anticipated. If you’re in the northwest burbs, put this on your list of places to eat. It is well worth your time.

Google
This was a recommendation from friends that we try this authentic ramen restaurant. It didn't disappoint. Very fresh, very authentic, very much how I remember Mitsuwa's ramen being (without the fighting for seating and crowds). I have had the spicy port and miso ramens. Both are amazing and would recommend!

Google
Ramen house shinchan is in the top 5 places for ramen. Got the Japanese fried chicken and the best condition ramen! The ramen was amazing. I haven't been here in over 2 years! The service was great. The waiters / waitress were great! The ambiance was great as well. Reminded me of when I visited Japan many moons ago. The quality of the ramen was almost like I had it in Japan! I'm short I highly recommend this place!

Diana D.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Everyone was super friendly. Lots of seating available. Would definitely come again!

Yelp
This is a small mom and pop ramen spot. The inside is kind of dated but I personally prefer it that way, gives off old school home vibes. They have a live waitlist on Yelp, I highly recommend utilizing this to avoid a long wait time. The ramen is absolutely delicious and tasty. The broth tastes like it's been boiling and prepared for hours, it's very good. Ramen comes with lots of toppings without having to add more for an up charge. They do have them though. The price is reasonable, most places have crazy high prices for ramen these days and I appreciate this one not raising their cost like others. Service is fine - You are able to enjoy your meal with who you're with without their staff hovering over you. This has become one of my favorite ramen spots in the area!

Yelp
Came here for a late lunch after moving to the area. The staff were all very nice and service was quick. The ramen was pretty good. Not the best I've had, but good. L

Yelp
Ramen House Shinchan is a decent ramen shop, specializing ramen from Nagoya. I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen, and overall it was not bad. Although I think bean sprouts in Tonkotsu Ramen is not ideal. The Tebasaki chicken wings are fried and drizzled with a sweet sauce. It was pretty tasty and had a good fry. They do have a specials menu, so make sure you look out for that. If I'm in the area again, I'll give Taiwan Ramen a try, as that's a traditional Nagoya ramen dish.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
I really enjoy Ramen House. I've ordered for pick up and delivery several times, and everything I've ordered has always been very delicious and fresh. My favorite is the Tonkotsu. Very delicious broth! Only complaint is that I've had some pretty chewy pork a few times I've ordered, but overall- it hasn't been a consistent issue.

Yelp
I came in for dinner and it was okay, but just not nearly as good as some ramen shops in Chicago. We tried the shoyu and tonkatsu ramen. Both were good but definitely lacking that 'depth of flavor' which some ramen has and makes you crave. The tonkatsu was the fan favorite but again still a bit bland. We paid a bit extra for a side of hot sauce which added a nice kick. The noodles in both bowls were cooked to perfection. The soft boiled egg was on the verge of being over cooked. The pork was tender. We also tried the gyoza which came out quickly and super fresh. Tasty. And the chicken wings which had an usual flavor of black pepper. Also, the quality of the wings was not great- had some odd textures.

Mark S.

Yelp
Tasty Ramen! Great service will come again and again! Highly recommend the tako karage it was delightful.

Leslie A.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on a weekend evening randomly. Did not make a reservation, but luckily got in for a table of three. They do a lot of takeout and carry out which I saw from all the packaging of food. Service was nice and food came out very quickly. Everything was good but not great. Definitely room for improvement but that's a good thing. Considering the competition in the local vicinity for Ramen, both new competitors and existing an older competitors They definitely need to do something to elevate them or make themselves distinct from everybody else. Great part was that it is in a strip mall, so parking was easy. Pricing is fair considering the competition in the area would happily come back, especially if there were new items offered on the menu or a new fresh approach to some of the traditional items.

Yelp
Took five tries to finally eat here. Was the wait worth it? Read on! The first four visits - be it Covid related, long lines or whatever- yeah it took fifth visit to try the food. Looks like they are back to full operations! I ended up getting the spicy tuna roll and Tonkotsu ramen with extra chashu. Spicy Tuna Roll was ok, nothing special. I would recommend you skip the rolls and stick to the ramens. Tonkotsu broth was awesome, thick, bold, creamy and unfortunately there wasn't enough broth. Not sure if you can get 1/2 noodles and more broth but if you can do it!! The chashu used at this place is pork shoulder meat and not pork belly. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. The only issue I had was - I asked for extra chashu and got two orders of extra chashu - not sure if this was by a mistake but whatever. However, don't get extra chashu lol, what they give you is plenty. While observing others, I've noticed they ordered miso ramen, chompong, and karaage chicken. Next time I visit, I'll have the other ones. Also come when they open, I was first in the door but within 5 minutes all the tables were occupied.

Yelp
So my cousins and I went for dinner here last night based on a recommendation from a friend. It's a small but welcoming place with friendly staff. We shared a spicy tuna roll and I tried the Best Condition Ramen and a side of kimchi. I was a little disappointed with the Ramen as there was chicken broth but no actual chicken, for $15 I would expect chicken or at least egg (which was $2.50) if I wanted to add that. Not even an option to add chicken, just pork. My cousin said her husband made better Ramen. ‍ the search for good Ramen in the suburbs continues...

Deepi K.

Yelp
Best ramen spot in the burbs! Nice variety of ramen and most I've tried are great. Highly Recommend Tonkatsu, Taiwan or Tamago Taiwan!

Emy C.

Yelp
Can't beat it for the price, the portions, the consistent quality, or for the leftovers it provides you for the next day. Whether I'm sick, starving, looking for something low key and familiar, or wanting to be a little adventurous- this spot has it all!

Yelp
The last time we dined here was before the pandemic, we really enjoyed it and were so excited to come back and try the Shio Ramen. We ordered an additional side of Cha-shu Pork. We placed our order and had our food in under five minutes. The temperature was perfect, not too hot and not cold (except for the egg, which is preferred) The broth is not as flavorful as we hoped, just had a salt and pepper taste but was still very good and better then most of the Ramen places we have tried. They give you tons of veggies too! The egg was cooked to perfection and I was pleasantly surprised at how many noodles were in the bowl. It was very filling and really hit the spot.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots in the suburbs of Chicago. It's a very authentic ramen place. This is definitely a hidden gem. My boyfriend at the time always got the tonkatsu ramen and I always got the Sara udon. The Sara udon is cool because the noodles are hard at first, but then you put them in the ramen and they become soft. It also has the full mini squids and pork and so many yummy things in it!

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
It has been years since we first tried this ramen and didn't like it. Since then we kept hearing people rave about this place. We just thought we got the wrong thing and needed to give it another shot. Turns out we were right the first time, the ramen is not good. I ordered the spicy miso ramen. Unfortunately I did not enjoy any of the toppings. The chasu was off putting, grey in color and tasted like it went bad. The egg was so over cooked and there were way too many stringy vegetables in the bowl.

Yelp
I like coming here a lot and having the ramen as it is very good in the atmosphere is really nice and I like the quality of the food very well. The service is spectacular, and the staff is very experienced within their work

Yelp
Great ramen every time! I'm so glad we have a reliable and delicious spot to count on in the suburbs.

Yelp
Food = 8/10, The chicken wings are a great appetizer. Our dish came with 6 wings, and they were so juicy! They were topped with seasonings and a sweet soy sauce. I would say this appetizer is worth it, for only ~$6. For a creamier ramen, the Tamago Taiwan was quite flavorful. I would've like to see more toppings on the Tamgo Taiwan like bamboo shoots and bean sprouts. Also, the noodles were a bit soggy. The Shoyu Ramen was a lighter broth and tasted pretty solid as well. Portions were well-sized, I can eat quite a lot of food, and I felt stuffed after. Service: = 10/10, Our food came out quickly, and our waiter was helpful and friendly. He gave us great recommendations on what to order for our first time here. The restaurant also checks for COVID vaccine cards, which I feel is a very responsible thing for a restaurant to do. And they said thank you and goodbye to us when we left :) Atmosphere: 9/10, not too loud, and well-spaced out. I would definitely come back here again!!

Dennis L.

Yelp
A ramen and sushi restaurant on a local plaza with a welcoming wood interior. We ordered gyoza and tebasaki for an appetizer and Best Condition and Tonkotsu ramen. The gyoza was pleasant but tebasaki was outstanding - crispy on the outside and tender, sweet, and tangy inside. Both ramen had delicious rich and flavorful broth. The egg noodles on Tonkotsu were more flavorful than the substituted flour noodles on the Best Condition. The large amount of veggies on Best Condition was overwhelming and made it difficult to eat. The service was very fast and attentive. Overall, a pleasant atmosphere with good appetizers and delicious ramen broth. Looking forward to try more on the next visit!

Yelp
Delicious ramen and Super fast delivery!! Excellent customer service If you want tasty ramen then this is the place to order for delivery or dine in.

Selma L.

Yelp
Very unassuming from the outside but warm and comfy location serving up all your ramen needs. While, it's a small location and there's limited hours for lunch and dinner, the experience of coming here is worth it. They make sure to text you when your table is ready which makes the front area clear and free of excess people standing around. Getting a table in front of the chefs is a nice extra treat because you smell all the yummy noodles cooking up and also get a view of how they are made. We started with the chicken wings. They looked like they needed a sauce, but it was apparent after the first bite, the wings could definitely hold their own. These wings were substantial and meaty. They were piping hot and fresh. Just the right amount of salty and sweet with a great crispy skin. We really liked them a lot and polished them off quickly. Next we shared a bowl of the best condition with egg. There wasn't a lot of chicken ramen choices sans pork but this is one was made with chicken broth and veggies. Ok now one bowl of ramen was super shareable and we even walked out of there with leftovers. So big portions. They kindly gave us extra bowls and spoons to help make sharing easier. The broth had a nice rich flavor and that yummy deep saltiness you crave when you think of ramen. The noodles are ample and the sprouts help make the dish just a little more healthy and less carby. The egg had a nice flavor and texture too. We could both do with a little more vegetables but otherwise a great dish. Definitely beware the whole cloves of garlic in the best condition. It can be a love/hate thing. This dish is not overly spicy either so don't let that description scare you. The spice was very subtle and paired well with the piping hood goodness of the broth. Service was super friendly and helpful here, though we did get a small chastise for spilling some broth on the table. All in all a great place, I noticed many people venturing into chicken and rice dishes so that's what I would want to try next time I visit, but ramen they definitely got down.

Paige J.

Yelp
Freaking amazing. Ramen is top notch and the sushi is great as well. I had eel and sashimi last time and it was great m. Love this place

Annie I.

Yelp
Came here for the great reviews! Unfortunately, I will not be returning. The staff was super friendly, but sadly the chef was strict with substituting a piece of pork for chicken. Which is odd since the majority of their ramen menu is based off of chicken broth. They did have one fried chicken option but it came in a curry broth. The waiter was kind enough to grab a manager and ask if I can simply get the fried chicken ramen with only the chicken broth and not the curry. However the manager said the chef can't substitute the broth but instead suggested I order the pork meat ramen with chicken broth and pay extra $6 for the fried chicken appetizer and they will leave out the pork meat. I said that doesn't make sense, to have me pay $14 for a pork meat ramen and another $6 for chicken totaling $20 when they could just add one piece of chicken to replace the pork that I was already paying for. So instead I ordered a sushi roll and my husband tried their Taiwan ramen. I'd highly suggest adding a chicken meat option with chicken broth. I understand if it was only pork broth that they had but the truthfully I'm not sure why they couldn't add a chicken option to their chicken broth. Doesn't make sense =/

Yelp
Stopped in tonight for the first time and it was delicious! The gyoza was tasty and the sauce served with it (I'm assuming a soy sauce) was great too. My ramen was so full and had a great, spicy broth. The ground pork tasted good too and they definitely piled it in there. The service was great too. We had a reservation so we got in right away. Once seated our order was taken quickly, and our food came shortly after. Servers were very attentive to giving us water refills. The restaurant itself is smaller but plenty comfortable. We sat pretty close to other tables but it felt ok and didn't feel like we were on top of each other. Overall a great experience with great food! Will recommend to other people and hope to return.

Erich B.

Yelp
Ramens, chicken wings, you name it and they do it very well. Sick or healthy this place will feed you and fill you and then you will be very content with the meal!

Barry F.

Yelp
My wife and I took my son and his girlfriend here for his birthday dinner. We love all Asian foods including Ramen and sushi. This place was very busy with dine-in and take-out business the night we went (and it was snowing hard too)! The ramen bowls are massive so come hungry. Appetizers included the fried octopus - which was crispy and chewy with a delicious sauce. Potstickers were great. My wife did the spicy Taiwan Ramen. Very tasty and unique ramen experience. She doesn't normally do super spicy and the spice level was just right. I got a little sample and thought it was delicious. I got a bunch of sushi and it was all pretty good. Probably not a sushi destination as much as a ramen destination restaurant, but the sushi was very satisfying. If we lived in the area, I'm sure we'd go regularly. Worth checking out!

Orvina W.

Yelp
So good!!! Fresh and hot!!!! I could eat this all day!!!! Customer Service is fantastic and food is delicious!!

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
We come here every time. This is our 8th time, I think since discovering this place on Dec 2021. Delicious ramen! Ample portions Price is right Great service Clean You can also order for pick up. No complaints at all. Highly recommended!

Olivia J.

Yelp
Yummy ramen noodles and light crispy karaage chicken but I never eat there and only order take out because the place is always so packed and small. I wish they would remodel and make the place bigger.

Mina H.

Yelp
The place is small and tbh, don't get the hype... maybe its the Asian in me, but I know I can make just as good/better bowl of Ramen... with a packet of dry from H-Mart or Seoul Market or even the other place around the corner from Aqualand in that strip mall that has Royal Buffet... and home ingredients. The non-special ambiance alone doesn't justify a $15 bowl and meh service... same can be had at Mitsuwa with a bonus of the Asian kitsch.

John R.

Yelp
Ok for real. Hands down the best Ramen in the area. Their delivery arrives hot and delicious.

Pork N.

Yelp
Had been searching for great ramen bowls, and this always comes up to our searches due to good reviews, so we've decided to try it out on a weeknight. Vibe: Outside is unassuming. Simple decors inside, functional and nothing over the top. Has 2 small dining areas. Menu: Easy to understand with good variety and enough options. It is not overwhelming. It's not confused as to the identity of the restaurant. Food is amazing! It tastes like its been made by your japanese-grandma-or-grandpa-in-their- tiny restaurant at the back of their house!! I love it! Tonkotsu Ramen broth is one of the top i've tasted in Chicagoland. Noodles is thin and perfectly cooked! Pork chasu is rustic, simple and porky. Enough green onions to cut through the rich broth. Not oily. Egg perfectly cooked. Temperature when it was served is perfect!! 5/5 Rolls - tasty and good enough serving/order. Katsu Curry - rice is perfectly cooked. Pickled onion is sweet to balance the curry. Mild curry sauce, thick and flavorful. Wife said some pieces of the pork was not as tender as she would've liked, but we still ate it all. 4/5. Service: fast, efficient. Server was nice and cheery. She was also attentive even though it was quite busy and full. Parking: yup plenty parking on a strip mall. That's always a plus. Price: Reasonable. Verdict: Oh will definitely come back! Wife said so too!

Yelp
DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! GO TO THE RAMEN HOUSE IN VERNON HILLS! I came here because it was closer to where I was at at the time and I wanted ramen. I had been to the one in Vernon Hills and it was such a great experience. I thought the food would be the same since they're the same restaurant. I was wrong.. so wrong.. I ordered the fried octopus and it was not good.. first they brought it and continued walking away.. I waited for my side of Japanese Mayo and it never came so after ten minutes When our ramen came out I asked for it and the server says "they didn't bring it?" Obviously not if I'm asking for it.. so now my octopus is Cold.. it was also over fried.. I just cleave you on it and didn't eat it.. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen like I had before at the ramen house in Vernon Hills and it was not the same! The broth was way to concentrate.. it was overwhelming and then the noodles.. they were not the same... I had these straight flour noodles in my ramen which isn't what I got at the Ramen House in Vernon Hills. They weren't bouncy and curly and made with egg like before. I gave up on the ramen too. I asked the server why I got different noodles and she said that's the noodles that come with the Tonkotsu ramen and that if I wanted the bouncy ones that I would have to ask for them next time. Rather than question why they do it different than the Ramen House in Vernon Hills I just gave up. The whole experience was disappointing and I won't be back here. Truly heart breaking..

Diana L.

Yelp
My favorite local Japanese spot! They have a variety of different foods depending on what you are in the mood for: ramen, rice bowls, noodles, sushi. They also have sides like Japanese gyoza dumplings and chicken karaage. My favorite items to get there are the chicken karaage, miso ramen, Vegetarian Ramen, spicy tuna roll and salmon avocado roll. The service is also friendly and pretty fast, even during the rush hour lunchtime. They were able to accommodate my children. They had high chairs available for my daughter, as well as kid cups for water. My son has some food allergies, and they were also able to accommodate him as well.

Ho T.

Yelp
Heard good things about this place for many years so I decided to check it out I visited there for dinner service was great I had the curry ramen I was pleased the curry broth was flavorful and thick which I was happy the ingredients are fresh the portion was just right overall I enjoyed this place and come back and try out the different ramen selections they have.

Amy A.

Yelp
I came here tonight for dinner! It's a cute place, not too big. I appreciate that their menu is not overly big. I ordered the Tonkotsu ramen with some extra noodles. The broth was delicious!! The egg was also cooked perfectly. I'm definitely excited to come back and try more of their ramen!

Annie K.

Yelp
Great spot for true Japanese, I'd love to try everything on the menu here! Ramen very good, as well as the katsu curry

Erwin L.

Yelp
Overall rating: 4.5/5 Wait: 4/5 Arrival time: Saturday 7pm Food: 4.5/5 Order: spicy chicken, Taiwan ramen Service: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Definitely coming back

Taylor A.

Yelp
I used to live in Nagoya for over a year, and this is the closest I've ever gotten to experiencing the food here in the states! Go and try the curry, it's exactly what I crave on a cold day :)

Jesse M.

Yelp
Had the tonkatsu ramen and the best condition ramen. Absolutely hit the spot. Will be back.

Manjusha S.

Yelp
This is a good ramen place in palatine. It's in a strip mall. Re: Covid - they are checking id and vaccination cards before being seated. They give you a sticker afterwards to keep so that next time you come, you don't have to show your id and vaccination card again. Their menu has a good variety of ramen choices and some of their ramens can be customized to be made with chicken broth or veggie broth if you don't eat pork or are vegetarian. Came here with a friend who is vegetarian. She got the same Ramen I had but mine was made with chicken broth and they made hers with a miso veggie broth. Very delicious! We both got the Best Condition Ramen. Portions are big so you will most probably have leftovers to take home. I would definitely go back to this place again!

Jo C.

Yelp
I had lunch with my friend recently. It was first time for me but my friend had been here before covid. She said there used to be a wait for lunch but not this time. It's a cozy, clean & friendly place for ramen & other Japanese meal. We order Curry Tonkatsu & Best Condition Ramen. I like the Tonkatsu as it were good as any other Japanese restaurant. Ramen was okay, not too salty which I prefer but nothing special about it. I might try other dishes if I'm in town.

John M.

Yelp
I really like this place! Normally I get the 'Best Condition' ramen. It is a lot of food! I'm a big guy and I usually have some left over to take with me. Seems authentic. If you are a fan of authentic ramen, this is a good place to go. If you want something more Americanized, there would be better options. BUT, try this first to see what your taste is - authentic or Americanized.

Deborah K.

Yelp
Super friendly staff but food is ok. We tried their tonkotsu and shoyu ramen. Portion sizes are hearty but their ramen was so salty it was hard to finish and the soup lacked depth of flavor.

Viet H.

Yelp
***ORDERED PICK UP-TO GO*** Packaging: Everything was packaged nicely and securely. Even the bag was tightened and looped by the handles. Food: I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and my boyfriend ordered the Taiwan Ramen. I didn't like mine at all. It was like they didn't use any seasoning so there was no flavor that I could taste. I was just slurping noodles that's all lol I think ALL my flavor went to my boyfriends soup because his was the best ramen I have ever had so far. So much flavor in the broth that even after all the noodles were gone, we saved the broth for the next day to eat! There was plenty of meat as you can tell in the photo. The gyoza was alright, nothing great but wasn't terrible that I couldn't finish. I would like to try more things on the menu but I'll definitely be back for the Taiwan Ramen!

John J.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant with great food and service! I got the spicy miso ramen and it was absolutely delicious

Thomas K.

Yelp
Love having this place in the suburbs. Some unique ramen flavors. When I'm trying to eat lighter/healthier, I get the "best condition ramen". I also recommend their chicken tebasaki.

Livia D.

Yelp
Cute place! Service is amazing. Food was okay- I got the "Best conditions ramen" and added the Cha- Shu (pork slices) Ramen was very flavorful but not spicy at all even if advertised as spicy. I did not like the pork at all. Ramen portion is huge - great price.
