The Twin Cities’ Best Ramen Shops | Eater Twin Cities

"Ramen Kawae is a new(ish) ramen spot in Minneapolis’s North Loop Galley. The restaurant describes itself as “A little noodle shop emerged out of a desire to keep pushing the creativity of Japanese cuisine” — chef Tuan Hoang’s broths are meaty and rich, an ideal base for fatty pork belly and umami-packed mushrooms. Pair a bowl with the crispy karaage or a plate of gyoza; both are musts." - Justine Jones

All the New Restaurant Openings in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Opened July 5 in North Loop Galley, Ramen Kawae bills itself as a noodle shop pushing the creativity of Japanese cuisine under chef Tuan Hoang; the menu includes light dishes like gyoza and karaage as well as steaming bowls of ramen, rice bowls, and mazemen, and the concept replaces Soul Fu in the space." - Justine Jones

Impressive, flavorful ramen for the price at $17 each, we tried the Tonkotsu filled with noodles and flavorful pork plus the Tan Tan Men, also excellent and with a spicier flavor. Kawae is a great place especially during the cold winter months. We also tried the chicken Karrage which offers enough for several people to sample.

We tried the Tan Tan Men and Tori Paitan. The Tori Paitan is a chicken broth ramen. I do not think this was executed well, the broth was flavorless and I think that the leg quarter that was included was a too large. I wish they would have cut it up a little smaller. The egg that was provided was not marinated or soft boiled. It was a half a hard boiled egg. Very disappointing. Presentation was great. But unfortunately the ramen was a dud for me and I would not order it again. The Tan Tan Men on the other hand was good. I really enjoyed the broth it had so much flavor and had a good spice level to it. The char sui that was provided was a little dry but it went well with the ramen. And they included a whole soft boiled egg also. I would get this one again.

It was a pleasure to dine here! As a lover of ramen, theirs was delicious. I recommend you try it! Fried chicken with soy sauce was also great! I'll be back for sure!

I'm usually strict on my love for ramen since there are so many good ones in Minnesota but damn I am impressed and entranced at how good the ramen was here and their gyoza. The broth warmed my soul. This place is a must go to. Worth the price and experience. I recommend the shoyu wontonsoba. A must try! 💚🤤

Amazing ramen, super fresh ingredients, even the bamboo shoots are fresh. Family run, son is a true chef, don’t skip the dumplings, they are fantastic, perfect mix of crunch and flavor. And the house made chili sauce, this place is A grade start to finish. If you like ramen or don’t know, come here. Thank you.

Hot damn! This is some bomb ramen. A nice twist on the traditional classic style—which I personally am a big fan of. I had the Tan Tan Men. Creamy spicy chicken broth with just the right amount of spice. The flavors are dialed. Very well done! Thank you for sharing your talents with us!!

The Ramen was great, so was the Karaage which had a yolk in the sauce and a poached egg hidden among the chicken, the Gyoza dumplings had some kind of layer of fried edge that was crispy and tasted amazing. Highly recommended.
