Omg we FINALLY have a late night spot in this area, and it's actually BOMB!! Ramen Moto used to be a small ramen stand at the Post food hall, and they have now expanded to a brick and mortar. It's open until 1am everyday except Monday. Wow-- the ambiance is so reminiscent of Tokyo with warm lanterns and real wood tables and booths. Parking is easy and accessible in the lot. We stopped by on a Friday night, and it was not crowded and dishes came out quick. I love that they play Bad Bunny which makes it energetic and lively. The ramen is good, but where this place really SHINES is their alcohol selection, small plates, rice dishes!
Alcohol- They have an extensive selection of Japanese whiskey, Toki highballs on tap, shochu, sake, Asahi on draft and other Japanese beer by the bottle, soju, even plum wine. If you are looking for something, they probably have it here. They have several flights (Nikka, Mars, Shibui + shochu and sake) to choose from as well if you want to try a little of everything. Sake can be bought by the bottle, can, glass, or by a carafe which has several servings in it. Their cheapest sake takara nigori is very light and creamy-- highly recommend for only $10 for a carafe! We also tried every cocktail and were not disappointed. All cocktails are made from Japanese liquor, so it pairs perfectly with the food. If you like sweet, Roppongi Hills is like a lychee martini, and Ichigo Punch is a creamy strawberry mango drink. They also have a frozen yuzu margarita and lychee margarita, both you can't tell by taste, but they are pleasantly strong. Otherwise, the Shibuya Shouga is refreshing pineapple-lime, and Old Fashioned has a nice aroma of grapefruit.
Small plates- Their menu is huge so a little intimidating at first, but you can't go wrong with anything. The larger grill items like hamachi kama and ika yaki (squid) take a bit longer but worth it- great smoky flavor and perfect to share with a group- tip: order first so they come out on time! Of course they have all the classics like gyoza, okonomiyaki, tori nanban (karage or fried chicken nuggets), and ika geso (calamari), but you're missing out if you don't branch out here. The keema paratha was OMG so flavorful, beautiful fusion of Japanese and Indian curry, and if you are dying for more (which you will be), there is also a whole keema curry rice dish entree with the same keema beef! Other highlights for cold dishes are salmon yukke with a raw quail egg yolk, hamachi chili (yellowtail), takowasa (octopus) with real wasabi, and yodare tori (tender chicken with spicy Szechuan sauce). For skewers, everything was perfectly smoky and charred, but for sure get the wasabi ribeye. These also take awhile, especially the salt and soy chicken wings.
Ramen- Their best ramen is the Tori Paitan, which is chicken-based. SUCH clean, warm, rich chicken broth with SUPER tender and juicy chicken breast, complemented by bright yuzu and a cute lotus chip. Omg to die for and so unique. The add-ons come out on little small plates and are more bare bones. For example, the butter corn is literally corn from a can with cold butter on top. I would say save your stomach to try a lot of small plates instead, and maybe share 1 ramen bc they are huge. They also have dipping ramen, and the spicy tsukemen is truly spicy.
Rice dishes- so underrated!! Did not expect much from these, but the curry dishes are better than the ramen. Katsu curry is more of your traditional Japanese curry but with the addition of pickled radish and a onsen tamago (lightly poached egg) which TRANSFORMS the dish. Nikumiso curry is a fusion of Japanese and Indian beef curry (keema), very well done. The only thing I would not recommend is the kaisen don as you can get better sashimi/raw dishes from the cold small plates.
Dessert- LAVA TOAST is a MUST!!! Made from thick Japanese milk bread and pan fried with butter, the salted egg yolk in the middle melts with the condensed milk. If you don't like too sweet, ask for condensed milk on the side. The yuzu sherbet ice cream is unique and refreshing with chamoy and tajin.
Service- everyone, from the bartender to the servers, are very attentive, and I love that they keep your table clean. The GM stopped by our table and was very friendly! 10/10
Overall, definitely stop by with a group of friends for izakaya (small plates and drinks)!!! You can hang as long as you want and keep your appetite up with skewers, sashimi, or ramen, there is truly something for everyone. Love the food, ambiance, service, I can't wait to return!
