11 Essential Ramen Shops in San Jose and the South Bay | Eater SF

"If you don’t mind a line, then Ramen Nagi is a solid option for flavorful ramen and a dynamic dining experience. With bar seating and an open kitchen, the restaurant is small but welcoming. The shop is acclaimed for its highly customizable menu, as diners can choose the levels of salt, broth density, noodle doneness, selection of meat, and extra toppings. The Original King, followed by the Red, Black, and Green King, are some of the most commonly ordered bowls, which each embody different flavor profiles as varied iterations of classic tonkotsu ramen." - Paolo Bicchieri

We had a great meal at Ramen Nagi in Valley Fair! I loved how customizable the ramen bowls were—you can adjust saltiness, oil level, firmness of noodles, and even choose your veggies (I picked cabbage!). I ordered the Red King with Japan Style Egg, and it was rich, bold, and full of flavor. The Black King and Original King were also fantastic in their own way. We also had Karaage Chicken, which was crispy and juicy. The staff were polite and friendly, and the overall vibe was warm and efficient, even during busy hours. Definitely a spot to revisit when you’re craving a satisfying bowl of ramen.

Google
Delicious ramen shop. The meal goes by quick, but be prepared to queue up for 30 minutes, give or take. The place is popular, so the crowds are typical, but it's more due to a small footprint and limited seating. Nothing unusual, just typical offerings for this type of cuisine. The broth is excellent and the extra soft boiled egg went well with the dish. Service was fast and efficient. Staff are friendly and courteous. Prices are comparable with other similar eateries.

The OG and our fav in San Jose @ramennagiusa in Valley Fair Mall. These guys have it down to a science. The lines are long, but move quickly. They hand you a sheet to check off what you want while you wait in line, noodle thickness, spiciness, condiments… Choose your broth, green is a basil garlic oil, red spicy and black- squid ink for a dark broth. I’m a traditionalist and always get their original tonkotsu broth. Pork cha shu or kakuni (thin slices or chunks) I like the cubes of pork belly and theirs is melt in your mouth tender 👍 on each table is a condiment jar filled with seasoned bean sprouts. Don’t skip them! So good and it’s complimentary! Their broth is on point. Ramen egg is jammy 👍 it’s also extra, but worth it. Chicken karaage solid. If I’m looking for ramen near me, this is my first choice. But by all means Marufuku and Tsujita are great options! #noodles #ramen #bowlfoodissoulfood #3jamigos #eater #southbayeats #tsujitasj #ramennagi #porkbelly #valleyfair

Google
Great Ramen, was not disappointed at all. The line to wait is long, but thats to be expected when a restaurant has great food. We were in and out in 30 minutes and the food was delivered to the table quickly. We would definitely go again, but there is also a couple other Ramen places close by that we would like to try.

Google
Worth the hype, spicy ramen (noodles= get the original not the thin one that look like thin spaghetti) chefs kiss add an egg. Tried the black one but prefer the spicy. Line/ it’s long on a weekday too so wear comfy Shoes, wish the restaurant would allow yelp reservations or something. Cute place!

Google
I recently discovered this amazing ramen spot, and I have to say—pairing ramen with hash browns was such a surprising and delightful twist! It’s something I never expected, but it totally works. If you’re vegetarian and looking to try ramen for the first time, this place is an absolute must-visit. The flavors are rich, comforting, and thoughtfully crafted. Highly recommend!

I often wonder what it is that I am missing when there is always a line out the door (our wait was 40 minutes on a Thursday at 1:30pm the day before 4th July). We are regulars of ramen restaurants, and the ramen here is ... fine! What's great is that while we waited in line, there was an enthusiastic greeter who walked us through a paper order form to fully customize the ramen experience. You can see the form in the attached photos. Inside, people are seated tightly next to other guests on the same tables (which is fine). Okay, having said all that, back to the ramen - look, to be honest, it's not better than the local ramen place near our house that doesn't have a line out the door. So, maybe you try and judge for yourself. We'll probably give it another in the future. For a mall restaurant, it was fairly affordable. Tip: ask what their off-menu items are for the day. We had a crunchy fried chicken that was quite good.

Google
There is always a line for this ramen shop. I've been to the Palo Alto location as well and it's the same situation. Dinner time on a Tuesday, the line isn't bad and it felt like we didn't wait too long (probably 15 mins). Before you get in, there is a staff that goes to the line, gives you a paper menu and a marker, and shows you a picture of what the ramen looks like. She was nice and gave an explanation of what the broth looks like. In line, I asked about a second slip for a To-go order and she said the server will help me inside. My friend asked about the vegetarian broth but if substituting some stuff like the cabbage or green onion will cost extra. She was not really clear about it. We got seated and my friend asked about the substitution. Long story short, it would cost extra. I asked about to-go order and they said they don't do to-go orders but they have to-go containers so I would have to order a new set and box it up myself. Fine I guess. We didn't have our own water jug and we were the only one we didn't have one and it seems like we were frequently ignored. In terms of the ramen, it's fine. It tasted good but I wouldn't wait in line for it to be quite honest. There are better ramen spots in town that have less of a line. A great one I usually recommend is the ramen shop inside of Mitsua marketplace. There are sets and it comes with sides so it feels like a complete meal. Overall if the line is very short, I would go for this ramen shop, but I would not recommend not waiting in line for this

Yelp
I live nearby, so I've had Ramen Nagi more times than I can count. The Original King is my usual go-to, super flavorful and comforting. It's a little on the salty side. The broth is rich, the noodles are always cooked just right, and the toppings are generous. Mushrooms are my favorite. I also love how customizable it is. You can adjust the spice, garlic, richness, whatever you're in the mood for. There's almost always a wait, especially during peak hours, but honestly, it moves pretty fast and the ramen is worth it every time.

Yelp
The chicken karaage was a 3/5 for me. Felt like the quality and flavor went a bit downhill than I expected. The chicken they used has this weird taste to it when I take a bite of it. My friend and I didn't get to finish it :(. The ramen, however, was pretty good! 5/5! Also an extra 5 stars for playing ONE OK ROCK ;-)

Yelp
Your eyes will be drawn to the line of people in Valley Fair Mall tickling your curiosity. It's gotta be good if all these people are willing to wait right? Let's find out! Our party of 4 waited 20 minutes - as you approach the front of the line, you receive a order sheet per person to customize your order to arrive shortly after they seat you. Welcoming but bustling space with servers zipping around the tables. Servers are on point and move efficiently. You have choices of different KING ramens. Our party got Original/Red - no one ventured to Green/Black/Veggie versions. Original - lightly flavored (one went as far to say bland!) To bring out flavor, grind in some sesame, sprinkle some fish powder, and spice it up with fresh ground black peppercorn. Drop a dollop of bean sprouts on top of your spoonful of noodles and compete the circle OR reach for that lifeline from a friend/family beside/across from you with a scoop (or 2/3/4...) of their robust broth into your bowl to add a subtle, but not saturated, twist. Red King = OG + house chili oil bath. Has a nice kick but not overpowering. For those that want less oily ramen, you can actually choose level of oil. Chicken Karaage - crispy with a swath of sweet soy and cream on the plate if you dare venture to dabble beyond the traditional. By itself, the chicken had a sweetness that was not expected - Not traditional flavor - very polarizing. Love it or hate it! You decide. Not bad but I'm not a fan. Extra noodles - no prob! There's actually a unique routine where they leave you with a hokuriku cooking pan when you're order comes out - when you raise your hand you get to choose thick vs thin noodles. Give them a couple minutes and out comes your steaming hot noodles to simmer into your bowl - watch my video! WARNING TO THE SUPER HEALTHY - DO NOT READ PAST THIS POINT IF YOU WANT TO TRY THIS PLACE! Don't say I didn't warn you ! So...you're eating away and savoring the moment...life is GOOD! If you haven't slurped up the soup as you eat the noodles, you'll be left with some soup in the bowl. Before you bring that bowl up to finish off the broth, look closely - as the steam and noodles clear - small translucent bits float quietly atop the surface. On closer inspection , and placing just a singular piece in your mouth to analyze - you realize it's a piece of pork fat! Thoughts of heart attacks or strokes intrude your mind! Snap out of it! Breathe...repent for your gluttony with 2 miles at 5am for the next 5 years to make up for the fat lining your heart vessels from your moment of weakness! Ah...the review?! Right...tastes were bold with the red and a bit lite with the OG. See tips above to take the OG to the next level. Left with the OG lacking a characteristic flavor on its own feet and the other kings overly saturated as the final impression. Good to try once but have local faves that will clinch my more gluttonous moments. The garnishes and seasonings on the table - in the right hands - may be able to enhance the character of the OG King. 3/5 for food +1 for the ambiance, and courteous cool hardworking staff. Worth a try! May be back to try the other kings If opportunity knocks

Yelp
It was my first time today at this location. We waited for about 40 minutes. I ordered the original king. It was pretty tasty! I was surprised by how filling it was! It wasn't too salty at all and the noodles had the perfect bite to them. I got spice level 1 and it was just right for me. At the table, there are flavored bean sprouts and they are so good! I could eat a whole container of them!!! The staff was very nice and the inside was very lively. It's definitely worth the wait and hype!

Yelp
Was at the mall on a Tuesday and our friend who loves DTF couldn't make it so we decided to change lunch plans and came here because the line only had 5 people. It was 12pm and if you've seen how long the line is on a weekend you'll know how amazing it is to be that short. Seating took about 10 minutes and while we were waiting my friend warned us it was just OK and not worth waiting a crazy time for, the weekend lines look like an easy 1.5 hour wait. After our lunch I agree with what my friend said, it was OK and I'm not sure I would come again even if the wait was short. The ramen is very basic if you don't pay for any of the add ons. Normal stuff like green onions, egg, and seaweed you all have to pay for separately which is crazy. The noodles were good but comparable to other noodles where the wait is shorter and you get standard toppings for free included. Chicken karaage: I only had one bite of this and left the rest on my plate. It was sweet to the point of it feeling like an accident and not intentional. Gyoza: This was very, very good. It came upside down with a fragile gyoza skirt connecting all of them. The bottom was thicker than usual but was well cooked with the texture of a potato chip. Would repeat this.

Yelp
Finally got the chance to try this place! My family and I of 3 decided to get Ramen Nagi for lunch on a Monday afternoon around 12:30 pm. We waited only for 22 minutes which wasn't bad at all! Every time we come to valley fair we see the longest of lines, but coming on a weekday will lead to shorter wait times. Once at the front of the line, the host will give you paper slips so you can pre-decide on what you want. You choose what ramen, noodles, amount of condiment, drinks, and extra appetizers. We got two original kings and 1 green king. Once sat down, our orders came in about 10 minutes. They have fresh beans sprouts, pepper, and sesame seeds for additional toppings for your ramen. The interior can be packed since it holds true to a Japanese ramen bar. The food itself was delicious, and I fully understood the hype of the place. The broth tastes clean, not oily, very creamy and lots of depth in flavor. My veggie king was a great take with Italian flavors from Parmesan, some pesto, and bacon bits for extra protein. Would come here again!

Yelp
The Black King squid ink ramen noodle is one of my favorite here. It is awesome that they do allow the customization of saltiness and softness of the noodles. Service wise, although typically there is a long wait, once they seat you inside, the serving is relatively fast and they cover all your needs. It is in the mall so location wise it couldn't be any better. Highly recommend this ramen nagi place.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday with two friends and waited in line for about 40 minutes. It's a small place, so they try to find exact groups to fill the tables. While in line, we were given markers and an ordering sheet so once we were sat, all we had to do was hand in our order. The sheet also had a chefs recommended order, which I picked, if you had no idea what you wanted to get. Pretty customizable. Once in, staff was quick to serve and keep water filled. The tables had condiments to add to the ramen. There's a high chance you'll be sitting with strangers. The ramen was pretty delicious - the perfect serving amount. All the ingredients were balanced and the broth wasn't too hot. I also got a side of pork belly, and ugh it was pricey but so tender. If the line was shorter, I'd definitely come by again. Decently priced and near other Asian food within the mall. They also offered bibs to prevent soup splatter on clothes.

Yelp
Located in Westfield Valley Fair, the interior is nicely decorated. Be warned the wait is insanely long. Expect up to a 2 hour wait. The ordering process is efficient as they hand you an ordering sheet while you wait. Original king (5/5): I love amount of customizability you have. Varying from being able to adjust the oil and salt level, and the wide variety of toppings. Flavor was immaculate and noodles were a good texture. Honestly everything seemed pretty accurate to how I customized it which was standard for most. Overall Ramen Nagi is pretty good. The customization options are quite endless. However the long wait time is a big deterrent for me.

Yelp
My second time at Ramen Nagi was better than the first. As always, there's typically a wait - about an hour. Faster if it's 1-2 people. I ordered the Red King with extra garlic, leaving everything at normal, added tamago egg, #2 spice level, and thick noodles. The ramen itself was on point. Next time, I'll go for firmer thick noodles. We also ordered Chicken Karaage for the table and that was soooo crunchy. I recommend ordering it since they usually run out. It's a small shop and kinda loud. Service was friendly and quick once you order.

Yelp
The bay has so many well-known ramen restaurants but I heard such good things about ramen nagi so my friend and I decided to go here. There was no line at 4pm but around 4:30, the line started to form for the 5pm opening. Although the line looked long, it went super fast. The menu is limited but that's actually a good thing for me because I hate being overwhelmed with too many choices. I feel like you can't go wrong with any of the 4 ramen choices but I decided on the red king because it seemed the most popular. We got the karaage as well and it was 10/10. It was such a good portion, had great flavor, was crispy, and the cream sauce was really unique and tasty. The ramen was amazing as well. The broth was super creamy and flavorful. You can adjust the saltiness, oil, spice, noodle size and texture, and toppings. I wish it came with an egg but you have to add it as an extra. If you come as a party of 2, you may have to share a table with strangers like we had to. The service was just alright and they kinda rush you to order and finish but makes sense because of the long queue. Overall, it didn't disappoint! With so much ramen competition in the area, I can see why ramen nagi is on top!

Yelp
Conveniently located in west field valley fair mall, this place is always has a long wait. Ambience is nice and food quality is amazing. Definitely worth trying!

Yelp
Ever since I tried Ramen Nagi, no other ramen compares. I think this is largely due to the fact of being able to customize the ramen to your exact liking in terms of salt, oil, spice, and garlic levels, as well as type of noodle and firmness, choice between green onions or cabbage, and chashu or pork belly. I usually opt for the Original King: normal salt, heavy in oil + garlic, chashu, green onions, thin noodles, and 2 for spice for the most robust and best bowl of ramen I've ever had. The savoriness of the broth is what keeps me coming, willingly lining up 30+ minutes whenever I crave some ramen. The gyoza appetizer is not always offered, so make sure to order it if they offer it to you! They have a black peppery bean sprouts as a condiment on the table which is super tasty. I do miss how they used to also have a spicy pickled mustard green on the table, and hope they bring it back! Additionally, the staff works efficiently here and you usually get your food out pretty quickly once you sit down. Inside, you get a typical ramen shop in Japan type of vibe.

Cat F.

Yelp
I've been coming here since they opened in 2018, and it's consistently delivered great quality - even during the challenges of COVID. I visit around 5-6 times a year, and what keeps me coming back is the ability to fully customize each dish. It adds a personal touch to every visit. While the overall flavor profile remains familiar, the different combinations make each experience feel a little unique. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Red King ($16.95) with the following customizations: Salt: Normal Richness in oil: Normal Garlic: Normal Pork: Chashu (sliced pork loin) Vegetable: Green onion Spicy level: 5 (also asked for the spicy sauce on the side--normally it's served on top) Noodles: Thin Extras: Tamago (Japanese-style egg) - $2.50 Pro tip: Don't be discouraged by the line. It may look long, but the staff runs things efficiently and it moves quickly.

Yelp
Ramen Nagi is a chain ramen restaurant, and this location is in the Westfield Valley Fair mall. As long as you're in the line to order by 2 pm, you'll be seated and will be able to eat your food. Usually the line is long, but there's plenty of seating and the line moves quick while you're picking what you want to eat. However, the odds that you'll get placed next to or across from a stranger is very high. The ambiance can be described as quick Asian dining, optimized for efficient eating. When you're in line, they hand you a sheet for you to choose your ramen base and customizations for toppings and noodles. You can also ask if they have chicken karaage for a great side! The Red King ramen had the perfect amount of flavor and paired well with the Chashu. The meat was cooked nicely, complemented the noodles and broth, and was appetizing to look at. The portion size was good for the price and each bowl satiated one person perfectly. After you eat, you pay at the front once the waiter hands you your bill. I'd definitely recommend coming here if you're craving a flavorful and high quality ramen!

Yelp
First time trying Ramen Nagi and it did not disappoint. We constantly saw long lines on the weekend, so we tried our luck on a Wednesday for lunch. Almost no line this week in early May. We got the red king and the original -- both were delicious. If you're a fan of Kaijiken, you'll love the bold flavors and topping options at Ramen Nagi. The inside ambiance fits the theme and you forget that you're inside a mall. There's no restrooms inside, but there are plenty around the corner in the rest of the mall.

Yelp
One word: DELICIOUS!! This is one of my favorite ramen spots in the Bay Area. It's delicious, affordable ($15.95+), & just a vibe. The broth is rich & comforting, the chasu is tender, & the thick ramen noodles are the perfect chewy consistency. I've only tried the Black King (black sesame & squid ink) & Original King (Level 1 spicy), but looking forward to trying the Green King & Vegan option soon. I would avoid coming on a weekend, if possible, just because the lines get so long and the wait times are 45+ minutes. I came on a Monday morning at 11:30am & still had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated.
google avatar

Yelp
Food: we've tried the original and Red King before, and I have to say that Green King is definitely the top and then the Black King. They are very special and not common to find at other places yet give you a refreshing flavor from regular tonkotsu ramen. Service: very standard and helpful. You choose your order when you're waiting in line and then handed the paper to the staff, and then pay at the cashier on your way out. Ambiance: very casual and the table distance is a bit tight.

Yelp
The line looked long but went fairly quickly. About a 30 min wait on a Saturday night. Ramen came out quite fast maybe 5 mins from getting seated. Loved the bean sprouts they give on the side. Broth was tasty and meat was tender. I ordered red king, firm noodles it was a bit spicy not too much but i didn't like the taste that much, i think the original tastes better. Overall experience was very positive. Helpful staff!

Yelp
Came here around 2pm on a Saturday (lunch line is from 11am-2:30pm and reopen at 5-9 pm for dinner). Waited about 30min to get seated for a table of 5. Gyoza - super good, perfectly crispy and really cool presentation. A bit on the oily side under the gyozas and the gyozas themselves are smaller than I thought they would be but they're flavorful and has a slight burnt flavor from the crispy stuff around it. It's also surprisingly juicy for a non-soup dumpling. The sauce is sweet and pairs well, but the gyoza is already pretty good on its own. Chasu rice - good for rice lovers! It's well seasoned with what seemed like sweetened pickled veggies and ginger. Not too salty. You can also use the vinegar at the table to taste which is nice! Honestly pretty good portion for price too! Original ramen - really good and flavorful ramen. I like how customizable the ramens are especially for the amount of salt and oil. The egg this time was more runny and not as seasoned as we've had before. There's seasonings on the table like sesame seeds, pepper, vinegar, and seasoned bean sprouts. Service was also great. They weren't upset or anything that 2/5 of us didn't order ramen since they weren't hungry. They even offered us sharing bowls without us having to ask which was super considerate! Overall great place for ramen, gyoza, and rice dish!

Yelp
There's always a long line at almost any given time of day and time, but unless I'm in Japan, the wait to taste the rich and flavorful broth is definitely worth it. Essentially, you have more than enough time to decide on what you want and how you like it as you're waiting in line anyway, so all that's left is just waiting to be seated! I've tried all of them except for the Red King, and I think you can't go wrong with any of the choices. The broth is always so flavorful (even without added spices) and the option of either wanting leaner meat (chashu - sliced pork loins) or fattier meat (kakuni - pork belly) is great. My favorite is and will always be the Black King because it's so hearty (and different - it's like feeling all the flavors in a dark abyss!) and I can't get it anywhere else here. Plus, I'm a sucker for thick firm noodles! ...and getting a little bit crazy on the additional toppings. But how can you say no to a perfectly cooked runny egg, seaweed, extra green onions, extra noodles, AND chicken karaage and gyoza?! I certainly can't. ...and my wallet will forgive me to make the wait time worth it :) I'm not sure if it's because we opted for counter seating, but I've experienced the same at table seating, but service is touch and go since almost everything is self-serve. However, they are quick with turnaround whenever you need to flag them down for something. The expectation is that you dine and leave afterwards (usually and hopefully without lingering too long so other parties can be seated quicker) however it isn't always the case. Even so, I don't think the wait has ever exceeded 1 hour so be prepared to wait that long unless you're about 30min to 1 hour before opening. Did the amount of sodium catch up to me afterwards? Yes. Was I able to walk it off at the mall? Yes. Did I take a fat nap afterwards as well? YES. Come early if you want to sit together in a big group or you'll be sitting separately!

Yelp
Compared to the Palo Alto location, the Nagi Ramen at Valley Fair feels a bit more cramped inside. However, the good thing is that the line forms indoors within the mall, so you don't have to deal with standing outside in the sun, wind, or rain. The flavors stick to Nagi's signature style, a rich, salty broth. I still stick with my usual order: the Original King, no green onions, but with an extra noodle option. The taste is definitely solid. That said, the long lines can be a real deterrent, especially since you can't grab a number and wander off; you have to physically stay in line the whole time. I personally recommend showing up about 30 minutes before they open, or half an hour before closing, to minimize the wait. And definitely don't miss out on their house-made seasoned bean sprouts, they are seriously delicious! As for other menu items like fried chicken or gyoza, honestly, you can skip them. They're not really worth the extra money. Focusing purely on the ramen itself, which is something Japanese restaurants take very seriously, I would strongly recommend ramen lovers to come line up and give it a try. With its reasonable pricing and flavorful bowls, I think it's well worth the wait.

Yelp
Ever see theline at Valley Fair? Totally worth it. I've walked by more times than I can count, We finally joined the party--and yeah, I get it now. These folks run like a well-oiled noodle machine. Super efficient. The line moves, the process flows, and before you know it--bam--you're face-to-face with a bowl of magic. We went for the Original King, the Red King, and the Chicken Karaage. The Red King? Smooth, silky, and spicy--but not "I need a fire extinguisher" spicy. More like a warm, happy kick. It's comfort in a bowl with a little attitude. The Original King brings the same richness, just without the spice. Still bold, still cozy--like a hug from someone who knows how to cook. The Chicken Karaage? Crispy perfection. And that potato-egg salad on the side? Weirdly awesome. It totally works. Love it. They have several interesting flavors. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I always love ramen nagi but it was maybe only my second time at this location. Their chicken karaage was very noticeably worse than the Palo Alto location. It was much more dry and didn't have as much sauce on it. One thing I like the most about ramen nagi is how consistent it is so I was very caught off guard when we had it. The ramen, however was still really good. I ordered 1 as my spice level and it was a lot more spicy than normal too. Service is friendly

Yelp
This was my first time ever trying ramen, and Ramen Nagi did not disappoint! I had the veggie ramen, and it was absolutely delicious -- rich, flavorful, and comforting in the best way possible. The broth was perfectly balanced. Yes, there was a bit of a wait (which I've heard is pretty normal here), but honestly? Totally worth it. The energy of the place, the friendly service, and most importantly, the food made it such a memorable experience. I would definitely love to visit again.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try this place after hearing people are willing to wait a long time for it. My review is based on coming on a Wednesday for lunch where I hardly had to wait and was seated within 5 minutes or so. They give you a sheet to customize your ramen while you're in line. I went with the Red King with everything else normal. The inside is quite small for the popularity. There are some bean sprouts, dashi/pepper/other spices, and lemon water on the table. We got our food pretty quickly. Overall, I would rate this near the top for ramen I've had in the States. It is on the heavier side for salt and oil for the normal options compared to ramen in Japan. The noodle texture was perfect and the depth of flavor is incredible. The cha siu is extremely tender. It's a typical size portion. They hand you the bill pretty quickly when you're close to finishing, so it's not a place to sit down and take your time enjoying your meal.

Yelp
The food was really good with the cheese complimenting the broth. The food came out very fast and the staff were friendly. The restaurant is more like a dine and go type if you like. The ambience and entrance was unique and the line goes fast because of the quick service. One of the best ramens I've tasted.

Yelp
I used to really like ramen nagi but it's either not as good as it used to be or maybe their broth is a little different. I usually get the vegetarian one with the hashed potato but I the quality of the potato seems to have gone down and the soup base seems way thicker than before. Also their karaage is real chicken but their fry/ sauce is sweeter than what I'm used to. The wait can be a bit long depending when you go. It moves at a decent rate but can still take some time depending on when you go. We had to only wait for about 20min at 6pm on a Wednesday. There are communal tables. If you come with a smaller party, you may need to share a table.

Yelp
Spring break 2025 continues with ramen adventures! Heard all the buzz about Ramen Nagi so we decided to try this place while doing some shopping at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall. Located on the 2nd floor of the mall, you stand in the wait line outside. We went for early dinner so luckily, the wait was about 20-25 minutes. It's a small but clean place. The staffs are working hard and provide good customer service. While in line, they give you the Omotenashi Sheet to place your order. You can customize your own ramen! The table comes with complimentary bean sprouts so be sure to take full advantage! We ordered: Original King - with egg and chashu. The broth is flavorful and not too salty. The chashu is delicious...tendor! I can totally just eat the broth with rice too! 4/5 Veggie King - with egg, mushrooms, spinach, and potato-like pancakes. Light yet flavorful broth. The potato-like pancakes was delicious. I wanted more! I wish they have refill options. 4/5 Overall, a wonderful ramen experience. I loved the smell of ramen and broth flavors when sitting down. Ramen heaven. :-). We will definitely come back for more the next time we're in town.

Yelp
I'm not crazy about Japanese ramen, but this exceeded my expectations and then some. This is the best Japanese ramen I've ever had (I haven't had many lol). Went on a Friday night around 6. Apparently, there's always a wait. Don't worry, just go next door and pick up Taiwanese popcorn chicken from Shilhin to snack on until it's your turn. For whatever reason the line moved pretty quickly and we neared the front of the line in about 15-20 minutes. They have you fill out your ramen order on paper while you wait. Just from observation, the wait staff hustles hard. They turn tables like nobody's business. The restaurant is small. They optimize their space by asking if you're willing to be sat at the same table with strangers (kinda like cafeteria). Since it was my first time, my friend insisted on waiting for our own table. Worth it! Ramen came out in about 5 minutes after being sat. I got the original king ramen, light salt, regular garlic and oil, 1 spicy, with pork belly, and cabbage. I got thick noodle, firm and added tamago. The noodles were delicious- perfectly chewy bouncy. The broth was rich and flavorful. I appreciate that I can ask for less salt (I usually complain that ramen is too salty). I love the cabbage and tree mushroom for some crunch. Pork belly is fall apart tender. Chashu also melts in your mouth. I tried my friend's red king ramen- so good. Ramen Nagi please come to the east coast!

Yelp
I've passed by Ramen Nagi so many times & just kept walking bc of the daunting lines. While on Spring Break on a Thurs. there were only 3-4 other people in line, so I thought I'd take advantage of this. Ramen Nagi certainly didn't disappoint. Orders: Original King-had everything "Normal" with the exception of more Garlic & it was perfect the broth is rich. The chasu was pink, but after submerging it in the broth it was cooked perfectly. Red King(spicy)-my daughter ordered this one with pork belly & it was excellent. The meat was hearty & the broth deliciously flavorful. It definitely had some heat to it. I love mung bean & when I uncovered the bowl that was beside the sauces & seasoning, I was thrilled with delight. The mung bean had a lot of black pepper flakes which enhanced this side dish. I could also taste the fresh sesame oil used which just made this taste even better. This place is small & the tables are much the same, so I can see why lines can get long. I really enjoyed the ramen, but waiting in such a long line can be a deterrent for me.

Yelp
This Ramen place is a must if you want Authentic Japanese deliciousness. It's located in the Westfield Valley Fair Mall and it gets BUSY!!! Our tip to you with waiting in line would be try to get in the first wave before they open for lunch/dinner or the last wave at least 30 minutes before they close. The restaurant has a small capacity so you will always find a line of people waiting. Our favorites here are their Original King and the Spicy King. We always add a marinated tamago (egg). Their sides are worthy of ordering as well, the gyoza is like a spider web of mini dumplings and the chicken karage is very well seasoned fried chicken. We especially love the sesame pepper bean sprouts that are on the table when you're seated, so very easy eating this entire container. The price point for this restaurant in my opinion is spot on with the value you get for your money. Service is also a well oiled machine!!!

Yelp
Service is friendly and efficient despite the long line that is always out the door to this compact ramen shop, but I'm not sure what the hype is. I decided to give this place a second chance, assuming I must have missed something the first round. Our table ordered the Green King with kakuni and thin noodles, the Veggie King with thick noodles, a side of Chashu and Chicken Karaage. The Veggie King broth and consistency of the thick noodles was good. Beyond that, the dishes generally lacked depth of flavor compared to other ramen shops in the area. The chicken was ok, but the batter was a bit thick to chisel through. They must be doing something right though, because this place is quite popular.

Yelp
This place always has a long line but we decided to give it go. Both our ramen were good. Wish we got more noodles in it. Definitely needed. The pork belly was juicy and tender. Service is quick. Just a little tight inside. If you are willing to wait in the line, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We got in line around 12:30 on a Sunday and the wait was just over an hour. I would say it was worth it to do the wait once. My order: Original king, light salt, normal richness, normal garlic, pork belly, green onions, 1 spicy, thick noodles normal firmness, +egg At first the broth felt light, but I think you're supposed to mix everything well because after I did that my broth was well-seasoned and spicier. The pork belly was super flavorful, not your typical thinly sliced ramen pork. The egg was too runny for my taste. Don't skip out on the bean sprouts, these were the most flavorful bean sprouts I've ever had.

Yelp
This is the king of all ramen places. The broth is amazing (you know when you have one spoon of it that it has been simmering for hours). The pork belly melts in your mouth. The hand made noofles makes the 20 minute wait on a weekday linch insignificant. Best ramen in bay area.

Yelp
The ramen is flavorful and you can customize the broth and noodles while waiting in line. I recommend to go on a weekday where there is barely a line. I waited around 20 minutes on a Tuesday for lunchtime. This place is super busy on the weekends and I believe the wait can go up to an hour or two. The inside is cozy and clean.

Yelp
Got the original king with light salt, heavy oil, extra heavy garlic, chashu, green onions, and firm/thin noodles. It was pretty good! Someone from my party got in line at 4:15 and we were the second group in line. The ramen came out pretty quickly and filled me up!

Yelp
I expected it to be good, but wow it was really reallyy good! I think Ramen Nagi so far is the best ramen I've ever had. Wish there were a closer location to me! We got on the already long line about 10mins before opening on a Saturday. Luckily we (2) made it in with only a 15min wait. It was okay being seated at the bar seating that faces the back wall versus waiting long for a table. Staff had come around earlier while waiting on line and explained the menu. He handed us a paper menu and magic markers to circle our orders. Smart and efficient idea so by the time we were seated they collected our papers and put our orders in right away. Ramen came out quickly. I ordered the Original King. I customized my broth to have light salt and light oil. I opted for chashu, cabbage, and normal thin noodles. The broth was absolutely delicious. The flavor was so rich! I pretty much drank it all haha. The noodles were perfectly cooked. I didn't think they were that thin. The chashu was pretty good too, I was expecting less meat than I received so that was great. Mushrooms came with it. I'll add an egg next time. Very delicious and filing ramen and only came out to $20! Amazing deal. We should've ordered some appetizers. Can't wait until next time!

Yelp
I went to this location a couple weeks ago to try the limited King Crab Ramen! This special dish was available from 3/1-3/4. My bf and I originally came on Saturday 3/1 for dinner around 4:30 pm and there was already a massive line. We were told that the King Crab was already sold out for the day. Determined to the try the limited bowl, we came back the next day for dinner. This time, we came at the tail end of their lunch service and waited in their dinner line 3 hrs early! While we were waiting in line, I talked to some of the workers. They said that this dish sells out extremely fast and had a limited quantity of about 56 bowls per meal period. After the long wait, we finally got to try the delicious ramen. Topped with a small, crispy soft shell crab and succulent pieces of pork chasu, this bowl was rich and flavorful! The broth utilized Ramen Nagi's Signature Tonkotsu broth and was given extra flavor with crab oil. Lined with strips of glistening nori, the presentation was beautiful! Overall, the ramen had really good crab flavor and was definitely worth the wait!

Yelp
There's always a line on both weekdays and weekends! So if you're planning to get Ramen Nagi, plan ahead if you don't want to wait too long. Of course, I got the ramen, but I noticed a lot of people ordering karaage, so I decided to give it a try--along with the chashu rice. Oh my goodness, you must try the chicken! It's perfectly crispy, and the sauce--I'm not sure what it is, but it's perfectly balanced and pairs so well with the chicken. It may look like regular fried chicken, but they fry it so well! Definitely go try it out! And as for the ramen--there's a reason there's always a line. If you're a fan of Japanese ramen, it's absolutely worth the wait!

Yelp
Definitely one of my favorite ramen places in the area. Theres always a long line so be prepared to wait depending what time you go at. They try to get everyone in and out as fast as possible. You pre select the foods you want with a sheet they give you outside. Ordered a black king which includes squid ink with the chefs recommendations. The richness of the broth and sweetness from the squid ink makes my ramen extremely satisfying and delicious. Kind of small inside, and they maximize the space. They usually keep water pitchers and tissues at the table for efficiency. They barely check on you, so most of the time if you need something you need to get someone's attention. You could also be sharing a table with another party depending on how many people you're with.

Yelp
Greta recommendation from a friend. Must try ramen in the mall and worth the wait. The side bean sprouts were demolished by us! I had the black ramen which was flavourful and super rich and extremely customizable!

Yelp
Usually they have a really long line from Fri-sun but if you go on a Monday or Tuesday it's less likely to be packed and the line actually goes pretty fast! Food(5/5): I tried the black king ramen which is unique compared to other ramen spots I've tried and it was delicious!! I finished my bowl and got to try their bean sprouts too. Definitely want to come back. Service(4/5): service was good, it is a very busy restaurant due to how popular it is so the service will be very fast paced and you need to call them over if you need something since they can't always check in with you. Ambiance(4/5): just something to keep in mind is that the tables are shared amongst other people which is understandable due to how busy it is. We still enjoyed it, but it does feel more like sharing a table with many other people.

Yelp
Don't be afraid to the green king! The green king has a basil pesto base and it is so unique compared to other ramen restaurants! The green king comes with cheese and bacon bits on top of your choice of meat. Definitely try this is you don't know what to get. The soup isn't too oily and is surprisingly addicting. Every time I go to ramen nagi now I get the green king!

Yelp
The wait was not that long, the line moves rather quick, and most customers eat and leave. The staff is very efficient at seating and clearing the tables. Great ramen with tonkotsu broth!! I like that you can customize your bowl. There is a choice of thin or thick noodles, cooked hard or soft, level of spiciness, add more onions or cabbage, etc.,. All this customization could add more money though. 2.25$ for more green onions? A bit pricey, don't you think? And the egg is not included. Should have a customization for the meat thickness too, I would have liked the pork sliced a bit thicker....and I would like some toragashi on the table. I did grind some sesame seeds to add flavor. Chicken karaage is good, the gyoza is good. Not the greatest, but good. Will definitely come back and try more of the choices offered, especially that squid ink ramen.

Yelp
Arrived at 10:40am on a Sunday morning and there were already 60 people in line. Got in around 11:40am. Didn't get there early enough for the crab special. Apparently only 25-30 offered per shift. We ordered the Black King, the Red King, chasu bowl, kaarage, and gyoza. The ramen was truly one the best I've had, from broth the noodles. I tried both the Black and Red King, and each didn't disappoint. I had the standard thin noodles with thin chasu on the Red King and thin noodles but with pork belly and cabbage with the Black King. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the cabbage. The pork belly was more fatty than the chasu, which gave it a little more flavor. My one ding is that I didn't realize the soft boiled egg was extra, so I didn't get to try it. Most times my ramen comes with at least 1/2 a soft boiled egg. Oh well. Next time. Presuming I find time to wait an hour+ in line. :-) The gyoza was pretty good. It was y mind blowing, but it was still tasty. The Kaarage came in fairly large pieces. Each piece had just enough batter for a good crunch. They tasted better than most places I've tried kaarage. The chasu rice bowl was okay. Nothing to brag about. Probably would order it again. This is a great ramen spot. One of the best I've had. I didn't care much for waiting in the long line though. It goes fast, but not fast enough. The place seats around 40, so be prepared to wait and possibly not sit together if you are a group of 5 or more. Just my take.

Yelp
I've been to Ramen Nagi on many occasions, and often times have considered them to be the best tonkotsu broth ramen you can experience in the South Bay Area for a long time. It's no surprise that the location here in Valley Fair always has long lines, usually 1-2 hours at the front before you can be seated. What's even more surprising is how I haven't gotten to write a Yelp Review yet. But alas I can write some opinion piece and my most recent experience and how it all culminates to this very point in time. Our draw to this exquisite experience this time around was the limited time Crab King! From what I gathered, it's a deep-fried soft shell crab they serve until March 4th. You want to be the first round during lunch to get a chance to eat this unique bowl, as there is unfortunately a limited number they'll make per day. I wouldn't try to eat this at dinner. Who knows how many they prepare. So what's the verdict? Honestly waaaayyy tooo salty. The crab itself is fine but the batter they use is rather unacceptable. That's how salty it was. And drinking savory broth didn't help. Water is a must to cleanse the palate. It's served with a ton of thin slices of pork and a gratuitous amount of seaweed which is nice in a OG king soup. And disappointingly, the fried crab got soggy for sitting in the soup. Overall, $19 of disappointment. Otherwise you go for the other bowls. My favorite broth is actually the veggie king, as I do believe they make the best vegetarian ramen here as well, but otherwise the original king is a staple for me. You can't go wrong with fried chicken appetizer as I deem these one of the best in the South Bay Area ramen restaurant shops. The rice bowl here itself is fine, if a tad too sweet for my liking, but I wouldn't recommend turning it into a ramen meshi from your ramen broth. The sweetness does not mesh with the savory soup as well as I thought it would... the rice bowl sauce has rather strong flavors. Overall, they'll blast pretty loud, Asian music in the restaurant, anything from J-Pop, J-Rock, anime, video games, and other pop cultures. This time around, it was nonstop K-Pop.

Yelp
Got the original and the black king! Glad I came early, line starts about 30 minutes before opening and I got there around 10 minutes before opening and there were 15 people ahead of me. By the time they opened at 1100, all the seats were full and there were people still in line that had to wait for the first round of people to order and eat. Recommend coming early if possible to avoid the wait! About 10 minutes before they open, they provide the people in line a form to order their ramen ahead of time so it's ready kind of soon after getting seated! I got the original with chefs recommendation settings which is pretty much "normal" for everything, not light or extra of the options. Also got the Black King with "normal" for everything too. The soup was much saltier than it used to be, not sure if it was just today or if it's the norm now. It was too salty without adding any toppings or spices! I wish I got extra garlic though, I'll have to remember for next time! I like that they still give you seasoned bean sprouts and I always grind in sesame seeds, black pepper, and spicy seasoning! The ramen is good, but I wish it was less salty!
