The Best Ramen Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This top-tier Mile End joint focuses on tori-paitan, a silky chicken-based broth that first earned Jurapei Iwakiri praise at his former downtown bistro Schlouppe. Have it spicy, with extra pork, or, when available, even vacuum-packed and frozen — perfect for proactively stocking your freezer for the long winter ahead." - Valerie Silva

The Best Takeout and Delivery to Try in Montreal Right Now | Eater Montreal

"Specializing in tori-paitan (chicken white broth), Nakamichi’s frozen ramen is easy to warm up any time of day — you just have to order Friday to Monday for pick-up a few days later (their instagram details how it works). Available in regular, spicy, and veggie, these might look like frozen pucks but the taste is umami-rich. Spontaneous ordering from the full (not frozen) menu for this Mile End spot is still available, too." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

We had the distinct pleasure of dining her and we can confidently say it's one of the best we've had here so far. The broth was a delightful revelation—deliciously rich and intricately layered, ewith a depth of flavor that lingers in the memory long after the meal. Every component of the dish harmonized beautifully to create a satisfying and hearty experience. We left feeling wonderfully full, grateful for the generous portions that did not compromise on quality. The restaurant's ambiance exudes a lovely, relaxed charm, providing the perfect backdrop to indulge in a warm, comforting bowl of ramen (even on a really hot day 😅). We wholeheartedly recommend you give this place a try if you haven't already!

Extreme cute interior and nice space. Unfortunately the ramen was a little strange. We got the tonkotsu and the chicken ramen and the onion taste was overpowering both of our dishes, especially after a little while. Perhaps we went on an off day. First time I didn't finish all my broth.

This ramen shop was as quiet as in a library with books displayed everywhere. The ambiance was so Zen, that one could almost envision Tai Chi being performed atop a shelf. The waitress was calm and spoke gently. The ramen was crafted exactly as ramen ought to be.

The menu is short and straight to the point. We ordered the spicy premium that came with tender pork that melted in your mouth, a jammy hard boiled egg and all the toppings. The broth was deliciously comforting. It may seem like a small bowl at first but it is a very hearty dish. Left feeling warm and fuzzy. We went on a Friday night and it was quiet, i believe this is more a lunch spot. I almost felt like we needed to whisper it was such a zen ambiance. Service was a little slow.

Very cozy place for ramen. Their special: ramen with extra porc, and it's huge!! (See the photo). Totally worth the extra $ we pay. I wish the egg was cut in half, which would allow it to absorb the broth better. The broth is very good: milky and smooth. The ramen is excellent as well (I choose thin ramen noodles - highly recommend). Very nice waitress who speaks both French and English. Overall, lovely experience!

I ordered the rouge premium, and it's amazing! Very thick and umami pork bone soup, paired with huge portions of chasiu, and a coddled egg. Highly recommend this place.

🥢 Ramen Nakamichi = ramen heaven! Incredible bowl — rich broth, springy noodles, melt-in-your-mouth chashu, and that perfect jammy egg 🥚. The Ramune soda was a nostalgic, fizzy bonus 🥤. Cozy vibes and great service too! Already craving my next visit 😋🔥

I love soup noodles. So it’s not surprising that I would fallen for this ramen-ya that we chanced upon wandering around Mile End of Montreal - a far flung Mile End that I’m used to in London, UK. This modern clean lines decor looked more like a Japanese tea shop from the outside. It is summer and they have advertised cold ramen on a placard outside. Once inside, I saw the big poster for the Tokyo style (chicken soup) ramen. A bit of disclaimer, I had already had a Canadian omelette (with chilli) and some poutine classique from two well known establishments in Montreal this morning - and this shop has just opened at 11.30 am with a queue of eager eaters. I thought we have to give it a go - even if it is just a snack. The summer cold noodle was refreshing. The slightly citrus taste lifts the pickled veg. I liked it, but the main event is another level. The chicken broth and the ramen were delicious. The noodles had the right level of chewiness. They were soft and smooth. I know it’s not right in the western culture to slurp - but these were made for slurping. And as a lover of Japanese food - I felt obliged to do them justice - for the benefit and respect of the chef! Try them and you will be delighted!

Yelp
Amazing ramen spot! There were quite a few options for different levels of the amount of toppings you can order. I ordered a simple vegan option and it was delicious! The large mushroom was my favorite part of the ramen. The portions are very good, and I left feeling extremely full. The restaurant itself was very hot inside, and even though the restaurant was empty, all customers were seated in one small little area. So my only complaint was that the restaurant was very hot inside.

Yelp
Service was efficient and friendly but prices were a bit steep considering the small portion size. Ordered 3 different types of ramen to try and all 3 broths were lacking a bit in flavour. Would come back to try other items though

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent ramen. Red, white and tampopo ramen were all great. Loved the incredibly thin hot pepper strings. Allergy friendly with customizations made due to an egg allergy. Loved the artistic treatment to the wall's plaster, Japanese books and magazines, and clean and simple atmosphere.

Yelp
Tasty! Quick service, casual feel, and very nice staff. They gave our son a special fork with wavy tines to use. (They even sell the fork for $20.)

Yelp
Served in more than 5,000 shops in Tokyo alone, and 24,000 across Japan, ramen, is revered for its complex depth of flavours of the broth to the perfect chewy and characteristic yellow colour of the noodles. This traditional Japanese dish made with noodles, broth and slices of meat, actually originated in China before making it's way to Japan. One theory states is it was first introduced to Japan by a neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Shunsui when he brought the recipe when he escaped thé Manchurian rule in China to serve feudal lord Tokugawa Mitsukuni as an advisor. Unfortunately no historical record of Shunsui actually cooking ramen for Mitsukuni exists. Hence most historians reject this theory in favour of the more plausible story that Ramen was introduced by Chinese immigrants in late 19th-20th century at Yokahama's Chinatown. Back in Montreal, after being deeply influenced by an unexpected encounter with the "Mama" who operates the original named Tokyo based Izakaya on Nakamichi Street (Japanese gastropub), Chef Jumpei Iwakiri recently opened Nakamichi, which operates as a Ramen bar by day and a full service Izakaya in the evening. Here we had the chance to try a bowl of the spicy Hakata ramen made with tonkotsu pork broth with its milky complexion, deep savoury taste and full, silky texture. Behind the kitchen was Xavier and Ben, respectively from Melbourne and Sydney, who explains that the reason why the broth milky white, unctuous in texture, is thanks to pork marrow bones and fat cooked for hours, simmered to smithereens. This said there are many variations of ramen and the collagen-rich mouth feeling does not always agree with everyone's taste buds. Cher Jumpei's passion for good cooking, high-quality ingredients, and welcoming ambiance is definitely well felt and supported by a wonderful staff. If you come early, you'll also catch his wife, Yuri Ishikawa, who keeps an eye on the operations. Hope to come back to try some of the evening options!

Yelp
Very cool spot and delicious ramen.I loved almost everything, the service and atmosphere, mouth-watering ramen broth. It would be nice if they had beer selection to go with food. Nevertheless, I can definitely recommend!

Yelp
I had the spicy pork ramen. It was good, but not amazing. Also right amount of spicy.
