LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Chargrilled chicken ramen specialist Torisoba Sumiya now has a second location in Torrance (minus the “Torisoba” in the name). The menu’s still heavy on chicken, but this branch has a few extras like chicken chashu ramen, shoyu ramen bowls (including vegan and pork options), and appetizers like takoyaki and gyoza." - cathy park

I came in around 10pm ik is kinda late but the server girl was so nice, staffs are very attentive. Food came out fast i even bought an extra pork chashu rice bowl as its only $6 extra in the ramen combo. The ramen came out pretty quick and it is delicious, i was a bit skeptical seeing the chicken is a white meat cut but boi i was wrong, i don’t think I’ve ever tried any white meat cut that is as tender, soft n juicy like how they make it here so it was a very good surprise. Broth is creamy, egg is running but embedded in the broth flavor so well. They gave u lots of noodles so that’s another plus! The bowl might look small but this thing filled me up to the brimmmm i couldn’t even eat the rice so i packed it home. The interior has a cozy vibe with many tables, booths and seats at the bar. They also have a alcohol deal at $3 for beers too. I will be back again to try different ramen types since they all look so good! 9/10!

Went during soft open. The staff was very attentive and enthusiastic, I think a few were from Ramen Zabon (?) I got #4 the creamy chicken char siu ramen - I liked it but I wouldn't say I loved it. Intense chicken flavor in the broth, I wasn't sure what made the chicken "char siu", the noodles had good chew. Also had the takoyaki, not bad.

Google
It's hard to tell from the name "Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen," but it's a "charcoal ramen" with a taste of charcoal and chicken broth. It was oilier than I expected, but very delicious. It was one of the best ramen I've had in the US. We'll definitely come back :-)

I wish I got their names but the two girls that helped me tonight were SO sweet! The food was so so good and they were playing some of my favorite songs! Definitely would come here again 💖

Great customer service. The waiters were welcoming and kindly went over the menu. The food was very flavorful. And the cooks did not take long in preparing our food. Definitely will be back.

This is newly opened! Hubby & I tried their charcoal-grilled chicken ramen ….AMAZING!! The chicken broth is rich, creamy and flavorful- cooked to perfection. Takoyaki is also tasteful. Service is exceptional - it’s always good when you are welcome with a smile and enthusiasm !!!! Will be dining again for sure!

We wanted to try a different ramen place today, and due to the reviews and pictures of the food, this place won out. I had the ramen with pork, and the charred chicken side dish. Both were excellent, with the charred chicken being top-notch. My wife had the charred chicken bowl and she was equally impressed. The pork with the ramen was thick slices and well marinated. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Good alternative from the pork based ramen. Small portion, consider going with the combo. They serve beer and other popular hi-type drinks.

Yelp
I was able to try out Sumiya Ramen and can say that it's a great addition to the area as it compliments the amazing variety Japanese food Torrance has to offer. The staff are quick and friendly to serve you and offer a lot of insight on their menu. They are most known for their chicken chowder soup, but a misnomer due to the gelatinous and thick soup that is easily mistaken for cream. This mixes with the char of the chicken creating a smoky broth for you to enjoy. I can see how this flavor however can be surprising to some, my gf was not a fan but I loved it. Next time I am going to add corn and extra egg. The Shoyu is not far off, the broth is hearty but easy going down. It's simple but it's combination with onions really highlights the depth the broth has to offer. Lastly they have a great beer special and they have a great selection sides. I only ordered edmame and it was poached to perfection, I will be back to try other appetizers.

Yelp
This place was mid at best. Appetizers carried, but the ramen itself was very average. I got the spicy Rich Chicken Ramen and the broth itself was interesting. It almost tasted like a shoyu and tonkatsu hybrid type of broth. The spicy-ness of the ramen definitely carried this dish. The chicken char siu was very interesting to see and experience. It was juicy and tender which I liked, but it lacked flavor. If anything it tasted like it was only salted. Some seasoning would go a long way with this. The appetizers we got were the signature japanese bbq chicken, takoyaki, and the karaage. The Japanese bbq chicken also lacked flavor and tasted very smokey - the chicken was nice and tender though! The takoyaki and karaage were our 2 favorite items that we ordered. Both were perfectly crispy! Service here was pretty solid, our waiter was quick and efficient and was also easy to talk to. He provided recommendations and explained their menu to us well. The place itself was pretty neat! They have booths that sat in its own mini room so you got a bit of privacy, which I liked. The place looked and felt clean. I really wanted to like this place but not sure if my girlfriend and I will come back

Yelp
Review #863 2025-035 Food Order: Pork Char Siu Ramen (5 pork char siu, handcrafted noodles, house-made vegetable broth infused with ginger, bamboo shoots, scallions, seasoned egg, seaweed) 5- Pc. Gyoza (pork, cabbage, onion, spices) Tip: regular or large is the same price except the large gets you more noodles. Server: Laura Last night I was here for a YEE, & here I am again the next day for lunch. Ramen Sumiya took over the defunct Zabon Ramen, & is located in the smaller Carson Western Plaza diagonally across from the more popular Eastgate Plaza. The ramen shop has been opened for 2 months & it's just down the street from home. Again, if it wasn't for Evan & his curated YEEs, it's unlikely I would discover this hidden gem in my 'hood on my own. It was way after lunch rush, about an hour before closing (they take a short break before reopening for dinner), & I was warmly greeted by Laura who I saw last night. =D I came back because I was hankering for their pork char siu ramen, & added a side of gyoza. Then she mentions the regular & large bowls are priced the same, but you get more ramen in the large. Say what!?! Dang girl... you got me at large. LMAO I would soon regret it (read on). Since I was the only patron, my order was ready in minutes. Once served, more customers started pouring in for that last bite before dinner rush. If you read Review #862 re: last night's YEE, you'll know that Ramen Sumiya differentiates itself from the S. Bay ramen shops (& there are lots) with their "flame-grilled to smoky perfection" chicken instead of the pork char-siu/chashu in a chowder-style broth (like 羹 thick Chinese soup). While that's their signature, they also offer a pork version, which I why I'm back & to compare it with yesterday's chicken. It's not an apple-to-apples comp because each is its own "star"/standout though the pork tastes more unctuous; I can't say which is better, instead it'll be if I'm craving for chicken or pork. Both proteins are perfectly seasoned & cooked/grilled, tender, & full-body flavor! Still ditto-ing: perfect al dente ramen... QQ chew. The vegetable broth would assume to be lighter than the chowder-ish broth. Nope! This, too, is rich & hearty... slurp, slurp, slurp... soooooo yummy!!! オイシデス!!! I also repeated a few dollops of yuzu kosho dressing, which adds citrusy, spicy, & salty notes, & is more pronounced in flavor because of the milder veggie broth instead of that chili-packed broth. With the added noods, I really didn't need that side of gyoza, which were tasty BTW, except it didn't have that crisp bottom skin that I'm used to. Hence the regret... I ate wayyy too much & feel like I'm going to hit a food coma while writing this. ごちそうさまでした (gochisousama deshita)! I was sharing with Laura that I'm in conflict between the chicken & pork char siu ramens. While you can add a side of protein, that's wayyy too much, especially as a single diner. I suggested they offer a 1/2+1/2 option to get the best of both worlds! I didn't share with her that on an extreme occasion I drove ~11-mi. to combine 2 ramen shops to make a perfect bowl of ramen because I liked the toroniku at one, & the tonkotsu broth & noodles at the other. Hehehe... And not that I think they need it, but maybe offer a loyalty program to encourage repeat visits. I know several local ramen shops that use an app to track points. Although my daughter hasn't been yet, she was conflicted with joining me for lunch or going to a birthday party today since teen parties are not quite foodie adventures, & my outings usually are. ;-) The dining room is moderate & cozy (looks like the same furnishings from Zabon); there's a few semi-private booths & smaller dining area, no patio/outdoor seats. Compact menu offerings of ramen: chicken chowder & sho-yu with ramen combos, rice bowls, & appetizers at competitive prices. Service is friendly & efficient; you'll definitely feel the warmth & welcome. Winner winner, chicken dinner! Ramen Sumiya is cluckin' bombtastic, & I'll definitely be back for more! Thanks again for this gem, Evan... you're the best!

Yelp
Driving down Carson Street, I became intrigued when I saw the sign for Ramen Sumiya. This spot used to be a different ramen restaurant, and being a big ramen fan I definitely made a mental note to check this spot out. This past weekend, I finally decided to go here for lunch. The set up is very similar to the previous ramen restaurant but the menu is completely different. Ramen Sumiya specializes in Japanese ramen with rich chicken chowder style broth. They've got five different types of chicken chowder ramens - Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen, Creamy Chicken Char Siu Ramen, Rich Chicken Ramen, Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen and Creamy Chicken Shoyu Ramen. Aside from these chicken chowder ramens, they also Pork Char Siu Ramen, Sho-Yu Ramen and Vegan Ramen. They've also got rice bowls and appetizers like karaage and gyoza. The waiter recommended the Japanese BBQ Ramen and the Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen. Both of these ramens are priced at $18.75. My friend chose to get the Japanese BBQ Ramen and I chose to get the Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen. These recommendations ended up being spot on. I tried my friend's Japanese BBQ ramen and this definitely was one of the most unique tasting ramens I have ever tried. It is topped with charcoal grilled chicken, and the smoky charcoal flavor really came through. My Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen had a nice, fiery kick to it. My ramen came with four big pieces of tender chicken char siu. I really loved the flavorful broth, the silky house handcrafted noodles and the seasoned egg. Everything in this ramen bowl was excellent. I really enjoyed my first visit to Ramen Sumiya and I know it won't be my last. Hands down this spot is a winner and this ramen girl is so happy to have this spot now in Torrance!

Yelp
I normally do not like leaving reviews unless it is really good or really bad.... I couldn't ignore how terrible the noodle was... I grew up in Japan and Ramen is literally my favorite food so I normally go to Ramen restaurant 1-2 times a week, so this is based on my personal opinion. To be completely honest, the soup was delicious. It is chicken base creamy broth and very savory. But, as soon as I tried the ramen noodle, it was HORRIBLE... The texture was terrible... and the flavor was extremely bland. Honestly, instant ramen even tastes better than this noodle. I really hope they change the noodle in the future... because the soup itself has so much potential. Personally, I would never come back here. Me and my friend only had one bite of the nooodle and could not finish the rest.... I also honestly thought maybe they boiled the noodle for too long...? But just a heads up, we only ate the soup so this photo was taken about 5min after the food came out... so it's not like the noodle was just sitting there... I would not come back here again.

Yelp
Had to go back after tasting the Japanese bbq chicken ramen at a Yelp event and bringing my son and daughter-in-law along this time. We started off with the edamame and was large enough for the three of us. The ramen was as delicious as I remembered it. The rich broth elevates the ramen. You know it's unctuous when the broth sticks to your lips like a thin coating of liquid. The smoky chicken and the jammy half egg add to the richness of the ramen. I was glad my son and daughter-in-law felt the same. This restaurant will certainly be on our list of to go places to eat.

Yelp
Torrance's new ramen spot! So good!!Tried this new ramen place in Torrance and it was amazing!! The chicken paitan broth was super rich and creamy, but not heavy or smelly at all (you know how some chicken broths can be too much? This one was just perfect). You can really tell they make it in-house--so flavorful. I also had the grilled chicken that comes on top... omg, it's actually charcoal-grilled over a flame! You can taste the smokiness and the outside is slightly crispy while the inside is juicy. I was seriously impressed. They also have a spicy ramen that's only available in the U.S. and it has a nice kick--not just spicy for the sake of it, but really flavorful too. Definitely something I haven't seen in other Japanese ramen spots. What's even cooler is they offer a soy sauce (shoyu) ramen and even a vegan ramen--but only at this Torrance location! So if you're vegetarian or just curious to try something lighter, you've got options. Overall, really happy I found this place. It feels like one of those spots that's gonna get super popular soon. Definitely coming back to try other bowls.

Yelp
Service is pretty quick and friendly. The ramen was quite flavorful! The broth itself is a little thick, like a chowder consistency. The rich chicken ramen with the chicken cha siu was great. The flavor of the chicken came out quite well in the broth. The ramen noodles were thick which was perfect for being coated in the broth. There's also yuzu pepper on the side with a pretty strong yuzu flavor coming out. It's perfect for adding to the ramen broth for a change of flavor! I went when it was half off but next time I'd like to try the charcoal-grilled chicken ramen. They do have regular and large sizes for the ramen but it's the same price. The large just has more noodles. I got the large because if it costs the same, why not? It's pretty filling. It's a great option for a different kind of ramen outside of the more common tonkotsu ramen.

Yelp
Found this place looking for a late night ramen spot. The layout and decoration of the shop was nice, and they had a few booths which felt cozy. Their specialty is the chicken chowder broth which was pretty good and more unique. The #1 came with a lot of chicken and had a nice charred flavor to it. The #4 had chicken char siu, but I was expecting it to be more braised. It was also cut a bit thicker than I had expected. It felt more just like large chunks of chicken in my ramen. Both of these chickens paired very well with the yuzu kosho which was available self serve on the table. The noodles were cooked well and it was nice that there's no price difference between a regular and large which gives more noodles. We also got the Fried chicken with Tartar sauce which was great. Overall, this place was great for a late night meal. I would go again, but would probably not order the #4 again.

Yelp
Food #2 was better taste flavor but a bit salty on chicken charsi Services I understand why only one person working in the front, but you guys might need to retrain the server. I don't blame server, I can see she's doing her the best but don't make customer waited more than 20 second by the entrance with half of dining tables ars empty.

Yelp
Good service. #1 is kind of unique, full of charcoal flavor, if you like that. #3 spicy is not that spicy, with scale of 1-5, I'd say it was 2. Chicken meat were tender for both, thin noodle hardness was at about medium. The soup was thick and sticky like tonkotsu, unlike the chicken white soup type (白湯). Overall, it is a good alternative from the pork based soup. I only wish the portion could be bigger, next time I'd go with one of the combo options.

Yelp
My friend said the ramen at their Los Angeles location was really good, so I checked out the new one that opened near me in South Bay. Maybe I had too high of an expectation... it was just okay, to be honest I ordered the creamy chicken chashu ramen, and it was $22. The toppings looked fancy, but the ramen itself was pretty average in portion size. Honestly, for $22, I'd probably go somewhere else. (There are tons ramen spots in South Bay.) The broth here is chicken-based, so if you're not a fan of the strong smell of pork bone broth (tonkotsu), this place might be a good option.

Yelp
We went on a Sunday around 5pm and were seated quickly. We ordered the Japanese bbq chicken ramen, rich chicken ramen, shoyu ramen, and fried chicken with tartar sauce. All of these were good, but personally I liked the Japanese Bbq ramen the most. I also like that they have a jar of yuzu pepper on each table. It goes well with the ramen. I think pricing is fair, you can also make your ramen bowls a large with no extra cost which is nice.

Yelp
Same staff, different owner. Updated menu. Very unique and clean tasting chicken broth ramen with charbroiled chicken. Actually better than the Zabon Ramen previously. Yuzu on the table and great, newer atmosphere. An upgrade for sure.

Yelp
I got the #2 Rich Chicken Ramen, karaage and gyoza. The broth was excellent. The chicken was tender. The batter on the karaage was crispy. The wrapper on the gyoza was very good. Right now, the #2 RCR is half price. Service was very friendly and prompt.

Yelp
Horrible service and strange noodles texture the previous management or owners was great now it is terrible

Maris G.

Yelp
Not good at all and very expensive. Broth have a very syrupy texture. I won't be coming back.

Yelp
Service is slow. Hope this gets seen by the right person to improve their staffing. Missing Zabon Ramen service and their fried rice.

Yelp
Tried this place becuz it looked cool. I got the #3 and #27. The spicy chicken ramen just had the right amount of spice and tasted amazing for the price. The assorted charsiu was really bomb. The teriyaki sauce and scallions worked really ggood with the meats. The service was excellent and restaurant looked clean. Would recommend and come again

Yelp
Nice new place. Very nice staff. Solid ramen. Food came out very quickly. Would come again.

Yelp
I ate here with my family yesterday. We ordered both pork and chicken ramen, plus assorted rice bowls. All food was very good. The stand out feature is the high quality chicken stock and soup used for the ramen bowls. It's nothing like you can find elsewhere in LA. Highly recommended.

Joko A.

Yelp
We had tori ramen and fried chicken with tartar sauce. We'd recommend get the tori ramen!

Daisy J.

Yelp
Really good food. Enjoyed the vegan ramen and staff was really kind. Excited to come back!

Yelp
Must try... Ramen Sumiya has the best chicken ramen in Torrance area, foods are great and service is excellent!
