I don't take recommendations very lightly. If I trust you as a human being and consider you someone with a good palate who knows their food, your recommendations are gospel to me. I don't say anything. I listen.
When I heard the recommendation of Ramen Tatsu-ya from my boss, I immediately added it to my list. After a hard-worked Friday and a quality run at the gym, I headed to the Round Rock location eager to please my growing appetite. Now, I'm not a ramen expert. I enjoy my teppanyaki from time to time. I enjoy my ramen shops from time to time. I have yet to be disappointed with most.
Even at the front of Ramen Tatsu-ya, your expectations are high. Their storefront is punchy. It means business. It's like walking into a sports arena where you just know they mean business. Inside, the storefront is beautifully designed with red and white lighting and clean aesthetics. It feels welcoming, like you're at a corner shop in a walkable city. I scanned the menu, struggling to choose my perfect meal, but I landed on the Mi-So-Not. I like miso soup, and I hoped their take on miso ramen wouldn't disappoint. I knew the Mi-So-Hot was probably "the move" in the grand scheme of enjoyability, but my stomach was churning in hunger. I knew that in terms of destroying a meal, the Mi-So-Not was needed. I paired that with a Kirin Ichiban to drink. A rarity in my beer choices, but a classic. Granted, I arrived after 8:00 instead of during the 6:00 rush; it didn't take long at all for the bowl to hit my table. Mere minutes, really.
Bluntly, it was phenomenal. Such a fantastic flavor. Quality noodles are nothing to scoff at, but the broth immediately captured me. So sweet. So delectable. Put that in a 44oz cup, give me a straw, and send me on my way, I swear to God. I was thoroughly impressed. The egg was just the cherry on top. In the future, I would add another half just because of how much impact that single half egg had on my life. That's just free game for anyone reading this.
I'm not a chopstick expert, but I can get by. I locked in here. Got a little bit of finger strain. I gotta do better.
In the end, I'm already trying to plot my return. I truly think it's one of the best late night solo meals I've had in some time. Just a guy in a noodle shop putting in work. Beer in one hand. Chopsticks in the other. Life is beautiful.
