Goa, India Dining Guide to the Food & Drink Scene - Eater

"Indian tourists from other states flock to this little restaurant, which continuously hums with Konkani songs. You’ll definitely have to line up for the lunchtime fish thali, the restaurant’s most famous dish, which includes fried kingfish, mussels, dry prawns, and a lightly spiced fish curry, served alongside rice and other items like solkadhi." - Zinara Rathnayake

Visited this place on a local’s recommendation for a homemade-style lunch, and honestly, it hit the spot. The fish fry and prawns fry were on another level; perfectly seasoned, crisp, and full of flavour. The crab curry was the star though. rich, bold, and exactly the kind of coastal taste you hope for but rarely find. Everything tasted fresh and genuinely homemade. And a big shout-out to Divya. she’s incredibly sweet, welcoming, and makes the whole experience feel warm and personal. If you want proper, straightforward, delicious home-cooked seafood, this is the place.

We visited Ramesh Restaurant after watching a couple of youtube videos. We ordered Mackerel masala fry and two goan thalis with kingfish rawa fry. Mackerel was amazing. The preparation was very different from what we had tried before and was very tasty. Kingfish rawa fry from the thali was great too. The spices, the texture of the fish and crispiness of the semolina were all on point. The other dish which had dry prawns was tasty too. The only thing that was a bit of mixed bag was the fish curry. It had less salt and overall the taste felt average. I have had better fish curries before. The rice was different than the kind we usually get in Goa but it was nice. The quantity of rice could have been better though. Overall we were very much satisfied with the food. The vibe of this restaurant cum home is very nice and peaceful. We know that Mr Ramesh uncle has passed away and their wife and daughters are carrying his legacy and we have great respect for that. Many people in the reviews have complained about the wait time but they should know that a mom and her two daughters are running the entire show. Also home food always takes and should take sufficient amount of time to cook. However, I feel that the rates could have been lesser a bit. I understand that Ramesh Restaurant has been popular amongst europeans and food bloggers and the homely yet delicious food is worth it, but you know that all home eateries generally have less prices. The kingfish thali cost us 400/- rupees and had less quantity and dishes than we are used to. Apart from that everything else is great and I would recommend everyone to visit this restaurant.

Eating at Ramesh is like eating in the porch/garage of a family home. The members of the family take your order, cook and serve you. It is as authentic and delicious as it gets! There’s dogs and cats to cuddle and keep you company, though they don’t bother you at all while eating! And the food was yummy!! I found the prawn curry slightly watery, but it was PACKED with lots of prawns!! And the prawn rava fry and surmai were delicious! Waiting to go back to try the smoked mackerel and the fried bombil which were out of stock…

Best Goan Seafood. I had the best kingfish dish ever made. The wait is long as its the mother/daughter cooking & serving. But all the wait is 100% worth. Very homely food. They also serve beer n drinks.

Visited Ramesh Restaurant for seafood but unfortunately, the experience wasn't great. The food took about 40 minutes to arrive after ordering, which was a bit too long. And the food itself didn't impress me. Maybe they'll work on service and taste in the future.

A place that serves home cooked Goan food unlike other restaurants you won’t cozy ambiance. Menu is simple , they have variety of fish thalis. If you are vegetarian then you hardly find two options either dal rice or fried rice. Since food is freshly prepared, the wait time is little longer. If you are looking for local Goan food then this is best

A humble family run household eatery serving some really freshly prepared and delicious home food. The hosts were really warm and hospitable, our bad luck that we couldn't try out their fish thalis as their freshly catched supply was done for the day. But still we could try out their prawn curry, prawns masala and pomfret fry. The prawns curry and rice was to die for and the pomfret fry was the star of the table. The fish was pretty decent sized and it was truly value for money. I will recommend this place to people who don't like fancy food and want to try the humble yet delicious home cooked fresh seafood. Will surely visit this place again for their thalis and prawns rawa fry.
