We got takeout, as we were traveling south from Maine along the east coast. Let me start off by saying that I love Israeli cuisine, and outside of Israel, the best tasting Israeli food I've ever tried to date was Grill Point (Queens, NY).
Now, back to Rami's. First off, what threw me off was that the meat is not on a shawarma grill, which essentially means that it will likely be dry. But, I have seen exception to that, so gave it a try anyway. The salad bar is not available for someone to pickup what they want separately, and you can't even pay for extra (literally have to buy "plate" (ridiculously expensive), where they again put salads for you. Tahini did not taste good, which threw me, because most Israeli places get it right (Lebanese are also OK, but still not as good as Israeli). The tiny container (maybe 0.5 oz) of additional tahini I paid for (75c) went directly to garbage. But the worst thing was the taste of the meat: seriously this thing tasted somewhere between the driest Greek gyro and burnt shawarma I once tried in a Turk restaurant. It's absolutely awful. I feel like dragging the owner to NYC or Philly and forcing him to at least try how Israeli shawarma should taste like. after the first few bites, literally threw mine to garbage, and was extremely disappointed. For all the items I took, came up to over $50, and unfortunately not up to nominal standards as to what I'd call Israeli cuisine.
