"Full of enthusiasm, a perfectionist, approachable and fun, chef Ramón Freixa learnt the ropes as a child, pitching in at his family's restaurant in Barcelona (El Racó d'en Freixa). At his eponymous eatery, he advocates a style of behaviour rather than a culinary doctrine: “the whole philosophy behind my cooking, just as in art and in life, revolves around the pursuit of happiness”. This elegant restaurant, part of the Hotel Único Madrid, boasts strikingly beautiful flooring, a main dining room, a private dining space, plus a glass-fronted terrace resembling a veranda, all of which combine to create a truly luxurious setting in the Salamanca district. Working with complex flavours, the meticulous cuisine is centred around several tasting menus (“Temporalidad RFM”, “Descubriendo RFM” and “Universo Freixa”; plus the “Petit Menú”, available for lunch from Tuesday to Friday) which might seem rather eccentric at first, but it soon becomes clear that they strike the perfect balance between traditional and cutting-edge cuisine." - Michelin Inspector

Outstanding food and service, and the wine pairing was exactly right. This is clearly a top notch restaurant, but even within the category, this ranks at the top. The discovering menu is a good balance between diversity of options and amount of food. The bread basket had plenty of choice and they were all great. The service was great.

We came here for lunch to have one of the prix-fix menus available. It was truly a one of a kind experience. All of the staff who work here are well trained and skilled professionals. The service is impeccable and sets the bar for all other dining experiences we have attended. The food was a a very memorable journey. Each dish leaves you with a different impression as your culinary experience weaves from one to the next. I recommend coming with an open mind and no preconceptions on what to expect. Come here to take your time enjoying the story of the food, the quality of the hospitality, and the passion that is on display from all those who contribute to the entire experience.

This is the worst Michelin I’ve ever been to. The food is just gross, they look gorgeous however. The services are great too. But the food is just either not fresh or has a dozen weird flavors in one dish, a few of which are too salty. The wine pairings are smart but not paired…

This renowned establishment boasts two Michelin stars and resides within a luxurious five-star hotel, offering both indoor and outdoor patio seating options. The attentive waitstaff excels in professionalism and warmth, fluently describing dishes in both English and Spanish. Notably, Chef Ramón Freixa personally oversees the ordering process at each table. While the restaurant exclusively offers a seasonal menu, weekday lunches feature a tempting tasting menu ranging from 75 to 220 EUR per person (excluding wine pairings). Opting for the Petit menu, I indulged in a delightful array of approximately 15 dishes, including standout favorites such as the creamy bread crafted from Ramón's father's recipes, the flavorful chestnut mushroom, and the exquisite assortment of chocolates for dessert. Although the Grilled blue duck main course was impeccably prepared, I found the accompanying sauce slightly too salty; however, the addition of citrus provided a refreshing contrast. Having experienced various Michelin-recommended and one-starred establishments in the past, dining at a two Michelin-starred restaurant proved to be an unparalleled service and culinary journey. The ingredients showcased remarkable versatility, and each dish was presented with meticulous attention to detail and aesthetic beauty. Additionally, at the conclusion of the meal, a delightful small dessert was graciously offered as a takeaway gift, further enhancing the memorable dining experience. Eagerly anticipating future visits, I look forward to exploring additional tasting menus across different price ranges.

Very good restaurant with original menu and good & fresh ingredients. The temporary menu is good value for the money. The dishes were delicious, I had no idea mushrooms could taste this good! It was also the perfect size. Definitely recommended to take the wine pairing as the wines are the finest. The staff were wonderful and took their time to explain every dish into detail.

The food was very creative and delicious and there was a variety of flavors and textures that went really well together, I liked that some of the dishes revolved around one ingredient (this showed the creativity of the kitchen). The service was very good, we were constantly greeted by the waiters who never let my water glass be empty, the dishes arrived at a really good time difference which let me not feel stressed about time or that it takes time, I appreciated the fact that the chef came to talk to the customers. All in all a very enjoyable experience, my only comment is that it took them a long time to bring the check at the end and that some of the bread they brought us was a little dry. I dined here November 2022

Had a wonderful dinner here for a true fine dining experience. If possible I recommend going on Wednesday or Thursday for the less expensive prefix menu, but if that’s not an option it will be great anyway Fantastic service, all food was carefully explained to us in English, as well was the wine pairing. I highly recommend the wine pairing too for some delicious Spanish wines. The lamb stood out as my favorite dish, with second favorite being the jazzed up tomato One nice touch was the head chef Ramon greeted us and took our order. I haven’t seen that in my fine dining experiences before . Recommend this restaurant for both tourists and locals, and will be back next time in Madrid

We had an unforgettable anniversary celebration here with the tasting menu Temporalidad + wine pairing. We are thankful to all the team of the restaurant for a perfect evening and the journey of flavor discovery. Every small detail, every bite and every dish of the menu were elaborated until perfection and worth a separate review. The impeccable service and very intimate and private atmosphere of the place made our experience truly unforgettable. Bravo to the Chef and to the whole team !

Yelp
Very impressive dinner experience. The whole dinner took 3 hours (a little too long for us). Staff is of course very professional and attentive (as it should be in a 2 Michelin star restaurant). All the dishes are extremely technical with many molecular gastronomy techniques. Some dishes wowed us (sometimes in an unexpected way) and very few were not so good in my opinion. I have had food in 3 Michelin star restaurant before so of course I do expect my dinner experience to have some high moments and some low moments. That is totally normal. However one thing I did not appreciate is the restaurant was too quiet. It almost made you feel uncomfortable to talk. You could easily hear few tables away conversation. So they should perhaps consider making the music a little louder so guests can feel more relaxed. I wanted to love this restaurant but unfortunately I did not fell in love with it.

Yelp
I had a great meal here. I chose the Temporality menu and there was plenty of food. Every bite was amazing, from the small snacks, to the entrees, to the desserts. Yes, I said "desserts" (plural). Chef Ramon Freixa even came out to explain the menu to me at the beginning. Due to the innovative nature of the menu, I would no longer consider the cuisine Spanish, but that is okay, I will eat any cuisine that is delicious. My favorite items on the menu were the shrimp cornet, the grilled sturgeon, the mushroom shaped like a coral, and the shrimp ravioli. Compared with other Michelin rated restaurants, I feel like the bread selection here was the best. My favorite breads were their croissant and hazelnut breads. They do give you a ton of chocolates at the end too, and I opted to take most of them home in a bag. I never thought I would say that there was too much chocolate! FYI GoogleMaps states the restaurant is located in Hotel Unico, but it is actually adjacent to it. If you are facing the entrance of Hotel Unico, the entrance to the restaurant is on its left. You have to enter a courtyard, go down a set of stairs, and then you will be at the entrance of the restaurant ready to devour all the interesting flavors.

Yelp
To describe the evening as perfect, it would be an injustice to the experience itself. This was by far, the best dining journey we have ever had! I have a few severe food allergies and several days before the reservation, the team made careful arrangements to accommodate them. At the time of our arrival, we were transcended into a warm, calming and exclusive environment which was quietly luxurious without any unvarnished opulence. The staff was a group of exquisite, welcoming experts who left no request unfulfilled. The chef himself, in all of his quiet genius, personally took our order, confirmed the allergies and ensured that we made choices that were safe. The meal itself was magnificent! The burst of delightful flavor in each bite left each sense fully stimulated and deeply satisfied. Across the world, this has by far been the most exquisite dining experience we have ever had. This was an evening that will be forever remembered.

Yelp
I would avoid making reservations with Ramon Freixa Madrid. After looking around and deciding to join Ramon, I booked my reservation a month in advance. I was beyond excited. Five hours prior to my dinner, they emailed me that my reservation was cancelled. Supposedly, they didn't have a card on file. That's fair. However, it's not fair to not contact the guest first, before outright canceling my booking. They said that they messaged my phone number several weeks before. I looked through all texts and didn't find anything. If anything, they should have emailed me. I truly believe they cancelled my reservation because they were overbooked. This is extremely disrespectful. I called to figure this out but they didn't have any seats available. That's super convenient... it's not like I called right after getting the email! I expected much better from their hosts and I am deeply disappointed.

Yelp
Without a doubt, when we have a unique opportunity to experience meals that are crafted with so much precision, it is a very fortunate experience. Ramon, a descendant of a Michelin starred chef and a grandson of bakers, shows the talents at this sensational establishment in Madrid. Arriving for a lunch tasting, the space is stunningly appointed and filled with light. Immediately, the platters and silverware here stand out with beauty, before the initial courses even arrive. Without a doubt, even amongst Michelin starred restaurants, the platters and silverware here is of unparalleled quality and beauty. The experience is very special and extensive, with a couple options offered based on the number of courses. It is hard to imagine how a human being can consume the larger course offered, so clearly Spaniards must eat some hefty meals. A couple favorites from the menu were the sea urchin purée and garden of bon bons from foie gras, apple and eel. Presentations were spectacular and the tastes are there to match. Unique, beautiful combinations. Strew of macerated chicken oysters was one of the heavier dishes, but also spectacular and rich. Mushrooms with shaved truffles and crispy duck were also amazing dishes. The only disappointing dish was the venison and for two primary reasons. First of all, it came as one of the last courses before dessert, the moment at which we tend to already be quite full. The second, is it was just extremely heavy preparation and a bit overwhelming in added butter and red wine flavors. It was for a certain taste. Wonderful desserts followed, but with those courses also would expect a bit more creativity in both presentation and preparation. Despite these fairly minor nuances, as a whole the tasting menu was phenomenal and included many one of a kind dish ideas that were as creative as they were delicious. With amazing service and design, the only area aside from food where the restaurant was falling just a bit short was the restroom, which was running out of basic amenities and that's just a bit of an inconvenience at a restaurant of this caliber. Overall, an amazing establishment with wonderful service and dishes. Having a chance to meet Ramon personally was also a humbling experience.

Yelp
It is easy to feel spoiled and pampered at Ramon Freixa in Madrid. The restaurant space itself is small and intimate, and Ramon himself likes to introduce himself to every table, asking about preferences and allergies. The seating is comfortable (couches for everyone!) and makes you feel like you're visiting his home and he is about to cook you a great meal. We chose the 20 moments tasting menu, which was MORE than enough (we actually couldn't finish all the dessert moments at the very end, so they graciously packaged some desserts for us. The highlights of the meal were definitely the "mimetic stone", which was essentially a truffled bomb of flavor, one of the starters that you get. Peach bellini was delicious. My favorite main was the large prawn. The weaker elements were definitely the fish moment (I couldn't finish it because it was too fishy for me) and the desserts (nothing really stood out, and they just felt heavy and overly sweet). Perhaps it's just because there were SO many moments that it was a little overwhelming and my palate was getting numb at the end. Overall, the space is beautiful and it meal started off really nicely, although there were some misses along the way.

Yelp
I sure hope the Michelin folks have a look at this. This place is 3 star all the way. Hospitality, decor, service, food quality and creativity, ambiance, tableware, attention to detail, efficiency and much more. It is well worth going out of your way to visit here. The menu is another attraction. You can order ala carte or tasting menus. Lunch "short menu" is a bargain! Comparing to Lasarte in Barcelona which I recently visited RFM is their equal. As a matter of fact they even have one of the service plates used in common.

Barndi K.

Yelp
Tucked behind the hotel facing a serene small garden, RFM was definitely one of the best prix-fixe dinners we've had. Excellent service, as expected, quiet, serene interior as well, the staff spoke English beautifully and made us feel very welcome. Highlight of our Madrid trip!

Yelp
The intimate, elegant and quiet surroundings at Ramón Freixa do not prepare you for the culinary voyage you are about to embark upon. When the chef casually drops by at the beginning of your meal to ask about dietary restrictions, you have no idea that you are conversing with a star of the culinary world. After he goes back in the kitchen, your meal comes in perfectly synchronized waves of small exquisite bites separated into starters (six of them) - the legacy (amazing breads brought from the chef's father bakery), then a series of courses that delight your every sense. By the time the 'sweet moment' comes, another wave of wonderful flavors come your way - and you want to make sure you have room to at least taste each one. Ramon Freixa was a culinary experience taken to another level. PS: I was enjoying myself too much to properly document his me- so I apologize for shorting you out in that department.

Yelp
This was a wonderful restaurant. We had the 20 course tasting menu in late November. They also have a 25 course option but 20 was enough! The ambience is great, very romantic. The food presentation was delightful and included a sense of humor. The food itself was awesome. Great seafood and one memorable highlight were the "stones" that looked like actual stones. Crunchy and tasty. We recommend the excellent wine pairing!

Chris S.

Yelp
A 1 Michelin star restaurant experience in my mind. The apps were creative and most were delicious but the entree fell flat. I had the suckling pig for entree and it was too salty. The price was too high for the experience though the interior was nicely decorated and the service was exceptional. In summary: -3 stars for food -4 stars for service -went with 3 stars due to the price I paid and not being blown away with the food

Yelp
#michelin2stars #madrid #spain #brunch. I dont know why they get 2 stars in Madrid. Maybe we went for brunch?

Yelp
My husband and I came here on a recent short trip to Madrid and our night at Ramon Freixa was a very memorable experience for us. The food was very good, but what really set the restaurant apart for us was the service and the presentation of the food. Watching the servers carry out each course was like watching a well orchestrated play. These guys were completely in sync and really knew what they were doing! There must have been at least 4-5 people who were serving us throughout the night and they were all very sweet and very charming. I think we must have sampled 25-30 separate items throughout our meal, not including the wine pairing. The presentation of each was so creative and imaginative. The most memorable for me were the tomato salad served over liquid ice, the Tarantino inspired brain dessert, and the manchego cheese mimetic stone. Everything was tasty. My taste buds were most impressed with the red mullet served over what I would describe as a seaweed bisque. The restaurant is part of a Hotel Unico (which looked amazing from the lobby) and is in a posh part of Madrid. The meal is pretty pricey but oh so worth it. I would highly recommend if you're looking for an amazing dining experience.

Yelp
Last night's dinner was amazing! Exotic creations of appetizers and other exotic creation. The owner/chef of the restaurant is extremely humble, nice and makes sure that you have good time while you're at his restaurant. He puts his 100% in every item along with passion and great attitude. Servers are very well coordinated. Absolutely loved this place and wish lots of luck to Ramón. He absolutely made our night special!

Yelp
Had a spectacular meal here in October. The restaurant is quite stark. Tables are huge and spread out and the room is very quiet. My wife loved the atmosphere, I thought it was a bit strange. The meal however was incredible. We had the "experience" menu which was "introduction," one starter, one fish, one meat, cheese and dessert for 90€. We also got the wine pairing for an additional 40€. Each course however was really three courses or more, served at one time. The waiters (who spoke English very well) explained each dish and told us the order in which the dishes were to be eaten. The meal turned out to be about thirty different plates. Multiple options were offered for bread, and each was fantastic. Both butter from France and olive oil were offered. My favorite dish of the night was a "Poultry Soup." I found the desserts to be a bit of overkill as they kept coming and we were quite full. There was cheese, pre-dessert, dessert and post-desserts offered. The wine pairings were generous and each wine was explained. Overall the meal was one of the top ones we had in Spain and I thought the price was more than fair given the quality. Restaurant is in the Salamanca neighborhood so we were able to walk back to our hotel (Westin Palace).

K S.

Yelp
Avoid at all costs. The 20 course experience menu had me wanting to spit out all of the appetizers and run for the door. Downright bad flavours and a shocking lack of balance, such as an egg shaped item that was literally a ball of cream and a soup in a flower dish I couldn't force myself to drink. The main dishes were decent, but anything could follow up 10 courses of horrible appetizers. The desserts were mediocre. I've dined at some of the best restaurants in the world, as I just love food, and I'm telling you this isn't coming from a lack of taste or knowledge. I noticed none of the people in the dining room were impressed or even happy. The ambience is very lacking too, felt like being inside a bare spaceship. Madrid has great little places, and this is the last place on Earth I'd go back to dine at.

Michael W.

Yelp
I was here with my parents and my girlfriend for a nice dinner, when my parents visited. We had a nice big round table directly next to a night skyline picture of Madrid which was behind special glass and looked really great. When I searched for a restaurant for this evening I decided for Ramon Freixa over the other exquisite restaurants in Madrid because of the rather small restaurant, only around 30 people fit in, with 10 in a desperate room, and also because of the really fare prices for the food, we picked the 3 course menu which is only 85€ including different wines for every course. The food in total was like expected excellent in taste and quality. Ordering a 3 course menu resulted in 3 waves of pre starters, then the starter from the menu served on 3 different plates. After the main dish arrived also on 3 different plates with different food. With the main dish the savory part ended and was followed by a predesert and then the desert again on 3 different plates. So even with ordering just 3 courses, we ended up with around 20 different dishes more or less. The amount of food was in general calculated really good, just our huge appetite for the freshly baked bread from the bakery of the chefs father left us really full at the end. The atmosphere in the restaurant was not as stiff as we feared at the beginning and we ended up joking with some waiters and so did other customers as well. The reason I can't give the full 5 stars for this quite perfect evening in the restaurant is simple and might be a bit harsh, but in order to serve so many plates at once to the different tables the stuff uses serving wagons which are horribly loud on the floor which is covered with small tiles. The noise is so loud, that we had to stop conversations some times because we couldn't understand each other.

Grace Y.

Yelp
Great presentation and def worth going. My first meal in Madrid. Make sure you order the tasting menu.
