Where to Find Locally-Loved Dishes Around LA | Eater

"Is it American? Mexican? Ethiopian? The answer is yes, with a side of Wild West kitsch. An extensive all-day breakfast menu is complemented by an array of burgers, sandwiches, and salads, but don’t miss out on the Ethiopian chicken stew, served with assorted veggies and a generous portion of gluten-free injera bread." - Bernadette Machard de Gramont

Very cute and cozy restaurant. Layback atmosphere. Could spend hours here looking at the decor. The meals were cooked to perfection. I mean you can’t really mess sunny side up eggs? They have wine and beer. I come here to try Ethiopian style food. I heard it’s delicious. Can’t go wrong with vegan. Deli style food is delicious too.

This is the only place in the valley to get good vegetarian Ethiopian food and I'm never disappointed. It's so satisfying scooping up and eating delicious veggies with injera bread. It's definitely the best way to eat your veggies. I can't wait to be back.

Stopped for the first time for lunch. Great atmosphere! Indoor and outdoor seating. Great selection!! Husband had a delicious hamburger with fries and I had a chicken, bacon, avocado, jack cheese lettuce wrapped with fruit cup. Delicious!! Fruit was ripe and 🤩 perfect!! Love that they offer a variety of beer and sangria 👍Service and quality of food is outstanding!!💕💕

Google
Great little spot! I’ve driven by occasionally for years, never realized they have an Ethiopan Menu. Got the Summer fresh Vegan tacos and lentil sambusas to go. Both really tasty. Will definitely be back for a proper sit down meal.

Google
This is a review from a local who lives less than 5 miles away. I have not eaten there, but that is not because I didn’t want to. The atmosphere is very welcoming. Their service based on delivery and the times that I have shown up to pick up is also excellent. The food is exceptional. Especially if you are a vegetarian. Or are vegetarian curious. In case you have not heard, They serve Ethiopian food. My opinion of their food is based on that. The reason why I am submitting this review is because they have switched over to compostable takeout containers. This is going to double my patronage edge of the business. Their food is delicious And healthy.

Plan a trip to the area, & include this tasty place - Eat here! You will be delighted whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner. We gladly enjoyed the Ethiopian vegetarian plate, one of us fasted on chicken enchiladas, and another had a perfect patty melt - all was truly delicious and the whole experience was a delight. If only I had known about this place sooner! I used to often park near Hansen Dam in Lakeview Terrace (to start and end my long bicycle rides into nearby mountains and Tujunga canyons,) and the one thing we needed near the whole Dam area was the Ranch Side Cafe! Great Burgers. Cold beer! I urge you to plan your journey to come out here, have a great adventure, and enjoy some delicious cookin' at the Ranch Side Cafe!

Google
Great place. It seems like a family business and the people there were so nice and the service was great. I decided to try the Ethiopian food and it was delicious. I ate the Awaze Tibs. They also make Mexican food and traditional diner style food. Quite an amazing variety of choices. Highly recommended.

Google
Update: super busy Saturday. Food was a bit overcooked. Probably won't go on a weekend again. What a great find! Indoor and outdoor dining. LOTS of menu options, American, Mexican, Ethiopian...who would have known? Great prices, nice portions. Recommend the pastrami, lean, not fatty. Great french fries, not a huge fan of the cole slaw. Would love to try their peach cobbler. Clean bathrooms!! The only downside I had, parking can be tricky.

Yelp
First time and won't be the last!! Came with my sister, mom and nephew and it was such a fun and family friendly spot. Food: FIRST off, portions are big! And staff did tell us but MY GOODNESS. -huevos rancheros: tasty and delicious! -tacos plate: juicy and full (like with toppings and all) -Turkey club sandwich: this was GINORMOUS. The bread was toasted and sourdough which is SO good! I think if it was half the size tallness wise, it would have been perfect for me! -fries: YES. Perfect crunch on the outside and squish in the inside and good!! Service: -friendly, prompt, food was fast! -they have a self serve sauce area which is nice if you're a crazy sauce person like meeee Ambiance: -love the art around and how homey it feels! -we played a few rounds of uno too and it was doable and fun! Overall: It's nearby my nephew's Korean school and so will definitely be back :)

Yelp
EDIT: ONE YEAR LATER... Wow! So that happened. Apparently, I'm a "complete idiot" for leaving a bad review and, I "harass small businesses". Interesting seeing how I literally just saw this "compliment" from her a year later. You know, because I've been busy not caring about this place or her. What kind of a business can't handle simple negative reviews in a professional manner? Oh that's right, this one! The same person who went out of their way to call me a liar after not doing their job. I am allowed to leave a bad review, zeneda / Wendy. You should really get your customer service in order and understand how we do things here. NEGATIVE STARS!!

Yelp
Where to start?? Plenty of parking. Plenty of seating. Lots of Western and cowboy memorabilia to look at. Service was friendly and attentive. The vibe was very laid back. I'm sure it may get busy on the weekends because the menu is extensive and offers breakfast all day. Speaking of the menu, they offer Mexican/American/and Ethiopian food. What a combo right!!! Well the hubby had an omelette with hash browns and I had Ethiopian...spicy chicken and veggies on injera. We both LOVED our choices. I'm so used to fighting traffic and finding parking in the Little Ethiopia on Fairfax. But after today, when I want Ethiopian...I'll just come here. There aren't many options but what's available is great. I had the beef sambusa..it was underwhelming...since I usually get sambusa from an Indian eatery..but maybe this is what they taste like specific to Ethiopia. Next time I may try it with lentils. I can't wait to revisit! I definitely suggest you stop by and see for yourself

Yelp
I love this place to get whatever you're feeling like They have Mexican, Ethiopian and tons of salads, burgers and sandwiches. I usually go after a long trail ride and am hungry' It's right off the freeway if you don't live close. Enjoy!

Yelp
What a unique restaurant offering a variety of cuisines including "Ethiopian, Mexican and American" in a ranch ambiance setting. Given Ethiopian is not offered in many locales, I opted for the Ethiopian chicken stew which was outstanding! Uniquely presented on a light pillowy pancake like bread intended to wrap the veggies, sauce, chicken and egg. Very flavorful and fulfilling. Many other options on the broad menu including burgers, sandwiches, Mexican and lighter fare, including daily specials. Plenty of parking, friendly and helpful staff.

William L.

Yelp
Enjoyed a really great bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado sandwich with fries and the best coleslaw today. Made my day.

Yelp
Delicious Ethiopian food, better than little Ethiopia in my opinion! Been coming here for years. Run by two sisters and you can just taste the love they cook into these recipes! Have always loved the veggie plate but recently ventured to try the Ethiopian Chicken, and boy is it my new favorite. It comes with three veggie sides (default is beets, collard greens and cabbage, but you can sub) and two drumsticks and a hard boiled egg. The spicy chicken sauce is just delishhhh! Highly recommend. My husband always gets the shiro wat add steak. Taste like the steak is grilled and added to the Ethiopian sauce.

Yelp
My son enjoys this place he's 15. He says one of the best burgers in our area. Nice neighborhood spot great staff.

Yelp
Very good food here. The service was great. Authentic ambiance. The first time I came here, the server said for me to try their Ethiopian breakfast, which I did today. I was not disappointed.

Yelp
It's really the only restaurant near my barn so I go by often. My favorite meal is the tuna sandwich. They also have delicious french toast and a robust and tasty breakfast selection. I tried one of the vegetarian Ethiopian dishes and enjoyed it. It was my first time trying Ethiopian food so I went with the owner's recommendation and was pleased with my meal. It's not fancy - quite casual, friendly service, free and plentiful parking and a very mellow vibe. Good neighborhood joint to grab a bit after hanging with my horses.

Yelp
Ranch Side Cafe is a cute Ethiopian, Mexican American restaurant with plentiful healthy food choices, great service and inexpensive prices. Located near the Osborne canyon entrance of the scenic Little Tujunga canyon in Lake view terrace, this restaurant is an ideal place to stop before your biker and car club adventure. Notice the pictures of grateful motorcycle riders and car enthusiasts by the register! I made a special trip to check this place out when I read the words: Ethiopian, Mexican, American food. I had a hunch that I'd find something great and I was right. This restaurant offers dine-in, takeout and curbside pickup. I watched the polite servers help a customer carry a big takeout order and load up a vehicle with a big to-go order. This restaurant is a good choice for large family meals and big office orders. The interior dining room is warm, cozy and uncrowded with quant decor and pretty artwork. Regulars address the staff by name and have their usual dish started without words. "How did your great aunt's surgery go?" and meaningful talk transpired like a wonderful proof of the close family-like relationship with the local community and this charming restaurant. It's a beautiful day so I take a seat on the patio and order a sandwich and soda so I can take half of it to go and enjoy the canyon drive on the way home. Here's the beautiful story behind this restaurant which I can't wait to share with you: 25 years ago this restaurant was started by two Ethiopian sisters. In an effort to make sure the local community felt welcome, the sisters added Mexican food and American food per their customers taste while incorporating their subtle Ethiopian food favorites. This restaurant origin story reminds me of an ancient Ethiopian tradition which welcomes, fosters and encourages friendships which sweetened each bite I took of my awesome meal. The creamy chicken salad here is loaded with premium cashews and fresh herbs. It's mild, dense and filling. Where can you go to find Ethiopian vegetarian platter with gluten free injera, a family-sized portion of huevos rancheros for a weekend breakfast and a deluxe veggie, turkey or beef burger with fries times ten for your cool American motorcycle riders club? This place does. Free water bowels for your pooch. Free hand sanitizer for your safety. This place has it all. Inspired, I took half of my sandwich into the canyon and took some amazing pictures. Dear sisters, I called my many friends who live in the area and told them all about your restaurant. I know you'll take good care of them! I'm a big fan of Ethiopian food and hospitality. It's a great recipe to save the world with. I'll be posting pictures of your food alongside beautiful views. Thanks for the hospitality, good food and inspiration! One million stars sisters.:)******"

Yelp
Can't decide between American Food, Mexican Food, or Ethiopian? Well, Ranch Side Cafe has a menu that, finally, includes all three! (This is always what the world has been waiting for.) We were in the mood for Ethiopian and with a complete lack of that genre of food up here in the Santa Clarita Valley we were delighted to find that Ranch Side Cafe, a one-stop shop for just about all foods, existed...we had a couple of vegetarian plates delivered and it was just like being in Little Ethiopia on Fairfax. How was this possible? We don't know, we were just happy it was as 6 different vegetarian Ethiopian dishes rolled out from the injera bread right on our table at home, ready for us to tear off pieces, scoop up deliciousness, and enjoy. The colors were beautiful...the portion size was great (2 of us each got our own vegetarian plate and it was more than enough.) And we'd definitely get it again! (Uness we wanted an omelet or burrito in which case were could also get those at this same restaurant. Why are there even other restaurants when all the possible foods of the world are available at this one? What a world!

Yelp
Holy moly what an amazing spot! The menu was honestly so hard to choose something from because of all of the great items, but we tried the wings (awesome flavor!), the Chile relleno burrito and the sambusas. Everything was delicious, and the peach cobbler at the end was a religious experience. I'm only upset I found this place so late in the game, absolutely try this place!

Yelp
I have drove by this little corner cafe and always wondered and keep saying we need to try this place. Well today my goddaughter and grandbebe while visiting the cemetery nearby side to stop by and it did not disappoint very cute home comforting portions are shareable Coffey is dead on Perfect! You all know unlike my . I enjoyed the special of the day , fish tacos . So I'm always looking for that fish taco now, but I need to explain to you that this is not your usual Ensenada light style taco. It was good I was still constipating if I really enjoyed it or not and ultimately I did enjoy it again it is different. The reason is different is because they do cut up the fish so it's enjoyable to eat peace by peace as you're taking a bite, however I'm used to the trimmings on top of the fish taco to have more of a citrus and in this case it's more of a call coleslaw not sweet but has a touch of it so that's all I can say to you if you like that, kind of taste that this is the fish taco for you if you're looking for the Ensenada Taco, then no! Though you should still give it a try cause I really did enjoy it my grandbaby enjoyed the pancakes and my goddaughter enjoyed the chocolate chip pancakes

Yelp
We came here for bunch on a cold, rainy Saturday. I've never seen a restaurant with options for American, Ethiopian, and Mexican food, but we were all excited to try it out. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it was amazing. The owner is Ethiopian and was very nice in sharing with us how to enjoy their cuisine with our hands. Some of my friends also tried their breakfast items and everyone said it was delicious. Food: - Shiro Wat with Injera, added steak: The injera was soft, slightly sour from the fermentation process, and complemented the rich flavors of the Shiro Wat. This reminded of curry except not as salty. There's also a creaminess to it, a bit like butter chicken. The aromas were amazing. - Awaze Tibs with Injera, Added spicy beef: I liked this more than the Shiro Wat! The sauce was slightly tangy and so flavorful. The beef also had a really nice bite to it. If you like spicy food, this is a great choice. It's just enough spicy esa without burning. This did feel oilier than the Shiro Wat and the injera absorbs a good amount of the oil as well, so there's not much you can do to avoid the oil. Still I really enjoyed it and would totally get this again. Overall, I would come here again the next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
Discovered this place on rainy Sunday morning. wasn't quite sure what to expect from an American Mexican Ethiopian restaurant. It's a cozy and clean place with good breakfast. Very family-friendly. But what makes this place is the lovely lady running the restaurant she is so pleasant and accommodating. A consummate professional, who provides excellent customer service.

Yelp
A most unlikely restaurant with the most remarkable, delicious and outrageously good food. From the outside you see the sign, Ranch Side Cafe and on the side of the building, in smaller letters: American Mexican Ethiopian Cafe. What? Really? Yep! Really! And man is it good. I have found, during my several experiences here, they do each style exceptionally well. Until today I'd only been here for lunch. The first couple times I took the plunge and thoroughly enjoyed a couple of the Ethiopian dishes (which is not cuisine with which I've had any experience) -- I have to say, absolutely delicious food. Also during lunch I've had a couple of American style wraps, fresh ingredients and super tasty. Today I had the breakfast burrito; it's as good as any I've had -- and the fresh salsa bar doesn't limit you to the one tiny little container that most breakfast joints toss down on your table. This restaurant is a hidden gem and I strongly encourage anyone in the area to stop by for breakfast or lunch. Hey, even if you're not in the area, make a special trip up here, you will not be disappointed; it is well worth it.

Yelp
Not the best and not the worst. This eatery was delivered to work today and I got the Hummus Veggie Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries. It was a decent sandwich but could have more inside and the fries were cold. It was not my first choice but when work is paying, you take what you are offered.

Emily B.

Yelp
Wow, I can't believe what a good restaurant is so close to my house. This is the only Ethiopian food in the valley. I had the chicken plate with gluten-free injari it was absolutely incredible. We are so lucky to have this restaurant.

Yelp
The ambiance is chill great people. It does get busy and you will have to wait a bit for seat. But they are very accommodating when they know you have been waiting for a while. The food is great lot of options to choose from. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Portions is very fair

Andres R.

Yelp
Delicious food and great customer service. Just around the corner from where I live so it's my go to for a quick good lunch or dinner when in a hurry. The ambiance brings western chill vibes.

Yelp
In the town of Sylmar back actually more Lake View Terrace sits a cafe ready to lasso your taste buds and then some! Just off the 210 Fwy on the famous Foothill Blvd that peaks just before Newhall through Sylmar and into the San Gabriel Valley and even San Bernardino County area and as history will tell you is in fact Route 66 for most of its stretch. Lucky for me this stretch brought me to the Ranch Side Cafe... covered outdoor patio seating just before the entrance and plenty of choose-your-own table seating inside. Amazing wall art, knick-knacks, and famous figures from past to present including Lucille "Lucy" Ball with Desi Arnaz, The King "Elvis," Mother Teresa, Selena, and a wall of pictures, autographs, and nostalgia that really make this place feel not only inviting but like home. RSC has an extensive menu of Ethiopian, Mexican and American varieties with some fusions from all. The Summer Vegan Ethiopian Tacos and Lentil Sambusas are a must. There's a salsa bar, cerveza (that's beer), and wine not to mention a variety of drinks for all (like juices, sodas, teas, and coffees). Breakfast, Lunch, plus all times of day food specials from Burritos to Melts & Sandwiches, Sides, Salads, Soups, Plates, and loads more including deserts. The service is above and beyond from everyone and there's literally something for everyone... Good gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, keto-friendly options, etc... Easy parking in a fair-sized lot... Definitely not something you'd expect in a less populated side of the Los Angeles Valley, but considering not only are the patrons and staff sunny and full of local charm but the area as well... It's easy to see why Ranch Side Cafe is the right kind of cafe for many. Giddy up into RSC in your trusty metal steed!

Yelp
This food was incredible! My husband and I were extremely impressed with the authentic Ethiopian food. I especially loved the Shiro Wat in the veggie platter. Being 35 weeks pregnant, I thought perhaps the spices would be too much for me but they graciously accommodated for me by limiting the spiciness level. I'm already excited to go back ... only wish I lived closer! As per the other reviews, my husband and I appreciated knowing that this place is very dog-friendly. Immediately, the gentleman helping us took our drink orders and offered our small dog water. It was so nice to be able to enjoy this eatery together!

Yelp
Excellent comfort food! Don't be deterred by the large sign stating "American Mexican Ethiopian" cuisine-- they make it work. Very reliable breakfast spot if you are ever in the area! This resto is not in our usual circuit, but I'm glad I found it on an impromptu child entertainment excursion to the nearby Discovery Cube. After a couple hours of hands-on fun STEM exploration on a recent Sunday morning, we had all worked up at an appetite! And while I love supporting any and all science museums, I had to draw the line at the Cube Cafe. After a quick Yelp search for breakfast spots with outdoor seating nearby, I settled on Ranch Side Cafe because the advertised American Mexican Ethiopian food both confused and intrigued me. We decided to try the cuisine trifecta: from the American menu, I enjoyed the mushroom spinach feta omelette that was bursting with flavors and fresh fillings, which was rounded out with perfectly crisp hash browns. From the Mexican menu, we got a very hearty veggie breakfast burrito and helped ourselves to the delicious salsas inside. And then from Ethiopian menu, the vegetarian plate with Injera. The Injera was perfectly spongey with a hint of sourdough that complemented the veggie assortment of beets, cabbage, greens and lentils. I've only had Ethiopian a handful of times before so I'm no connoisseur, but it tasted legit to me! Service was warm, menu extensive, the food came out quickly and the interior is charming. There is plenty of seating indoors and outside on the covered patio, and parking is easy in the private lot or on the street. When we arrived at 11am on a Sunday, the place was bustling with families, couples, furry & human kids, locals and visitors but empty by 12pm-- so I'm guessing it's more of the breakfast joint but the lunch menu of sandwiches/ salads / burritos looked decent as well!

Yelp
You need to try this place! We wanted to try Ethiopian food and decided to try Ranch Side Cafe. We had a big group so we tried almost all of the Ethiopian dishes. EVERYTHING was so. Try the Sambusa both lentil and beef they were delicious! The Vegetarian plate- each veggie was flavorful and so unique. If you're alone and can only try one thing I'd recommend the Ethiopian Chicken is a great sampling of all the flavors. Our favorite dish is the Beef Awaze Tibs. Everything was so flavorful full of deep spice. The owner was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant comfortable and accommodating. We will be back! Oh and it's dog friendly!!!

Yelp
Their homemade Peach Cobbler is better than my grandma's, and my grandma won awards for her Peach Cobbler! Their burgers are amazing as well. Nice owners. Hard working staff, plenty of room to eat with family. Worth the drive every time.

Yelp
Burnt bacon. Burnt hash browns. My bf got the avocado toast and it wasn't even toast just soggy ass bread. I don't understand there were only 2 people eating inside it wasn't busy at all how do you mess up something so simple? It was gross. Never coming back.

Giffram C.

Yelp
As a local and after passing by this restaurant for many years and never actually taking the time to check it out until recently, I regret not checking it out sooner. Wanting something super nearby to have a quick meal, I finally decided to give ranch side cafe a try. We were greeted with very welcoming and warm service and found that the cafe itself is very cozy and decorated to fit a ranch theme which is very fitting for the area. I ended up trying their breakfast burrito and hash browns and the food was so delicious. Will definitely come back to try more of their fast menu including the Ethiopian food which is a rare find. Our waitress recommended the peach cobbler as it's made in house, and having never tried peach cobbler before, I'm glad that this place made the first impression. Overall, I'm glad that I finally gave this local restaurant a try, and we'll definitely be coming back again in the future!

Yelp
My friend and I like to do "tack days" where we drive up to East Valley Tack, then get lunch somewhere in the area. Last time we did this, we stumbled upon this gem of a place - an American cafe with Mexican and Ethiopian food and decked out in western cowboy themes. I got the veggie Ethiopian plate, and it was...so good. I accidentally ate a pepper and nearly died, which made the server very concerned. Washed it down with some fries and orange bang, and was right as rain after a few minutes. Definitely going back.

Elangie F.

Yelp
I love this place! The first time I went was for breakfast--and it was bustling! I remember getting a sweeter dessert and it being delicious. However, in my opinion, the dinner is where its at. It does seem like its a lot busier during the day than the evening, which is great in my opinion! Service and food is always quick, staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy I've never had ethiopian food before, but this place has me coming back for more! The vegetarian plate is delicious, but the shirowat is my absolute fav! It's a chickpea flour stew with a nice kick and is served with injera (ethiopian bread). And my god it's delicious. I'm drooling remembering it. The last time I went, the peach cobbler was fresh out of the oven. I actually dislike peach, but MAN was it good. It wasn't overly sweet, but still resonated with my sweettooth! Please come here at any time you like, but definitely try the ethiopian food!

Yelp
Wanted to give you an update!we went here on Saturday for lunch , service was fast and I got the Chile releno lunch special! Wife got a salad! That Chile releno one of the best I've ever had! The owner is nice and even though haven't been here in a year it's still awesome! Come on down for some homemade goodness!

Yelp
We actually stopped here by accident.. my 5 year old Had to poop .. I'm glad she did because we needed ended up staying here for dinner. We were about 2 hours from home still and hungry.. I fell in love with not just food but everything! Our server was super sweet, didn't catch her name but she tried to get the Dodger game On for us . I truly appreciated that! I shared with all my fam and friends about this restaurant. EASY on/off freeway.. I will definitely be back again!! Thank you!!

Yelp
Anytime I can get perfectly cooked Ethiopian chicken, egg and veggies on top of injera, I'm a happy man. This place had all of that. A friend and I came for lunch and practically inhaled our food. Charming place. Easy parking. Attentive service. Excellent food. Very very tasty and filling for $20.

Yelp
Appropriately named since they sit right in the heart of one of LA's major areas of horse properties and stables. With an eclectic and diverse offering of food choices; American, Mexican and Ethiopian. Today's visit was my first, my wife's second. Empty on our arrival just before noon, and politely instructed to have a seat wherever we like. And for those of you concerned about a separate menu for the Ethiopian dishes, you'll find all cuisine choices in one fairly extensive menu; breakfast, lunch and dinner served all day. So after perusing the menu several times, nearly getting lost in the multitude of choices, the wife went with the Healthy Omelette Breakfast with potatoes and two slices of sourdough toast. Unfortunately they had no turkey sausage available, the one letdown today. I chose the Ethiopian Chicken with vegetables on a bed of injera, and a root beer. This injera was the consistency of a crepe but absorbed the flavors oh so well! But so thin you'll start your meal using no utensils the traditional way, but don't lose track of your fork, you'll definitely be needing it halfway in. And everything on this plate was amazingly delicious! From the chicken to the best tasting beets I've ever eaten. A friendly atmosphere and before long, a very diverse clientele started filing in right after our settling in. And a good choice of both indoor and outdoor seating, very cozy. But the food is the real star here, one of the most satisfying meals I've had dining out anywhere in months. Total before tip; $41.04 and worth every Penny.

Yelp
Excellent service and the fiid is amazing! Also, very affordable! Comfortable atmosphere and friendly environment.

Yelp
I love this place! My dad started taking me here when I would visit him on trips to So Cal and every time I'm in town I make him take me here several times for breakfasts before heading back home. The owner is amazing and super friendly, working mostly by herself in the mornings and makes THE best Ethiopian food I've ever had. Yes, the standard American fare is good, but if you want a real treat, don't skip the little Ethiopian section on the menu. The egg firfir is so delicious and flavorful, it's a must try for breakfast. I'm an injera fan, but they serve it on potatoes too. Even though I only dine-in for breakfast, I've also ordered the shiro wat and vegetarian plates to go and they did NOT disappoint. The vegetarian plate is great if you want a little bit of everything. And don't worry, you can still get your omelettes or burgers if Ethiopian isn't your style! This place is a little gem in the north valley and I'm already planning on coming back for breakfast in March when I visit my dad again this year! See you in a couple months!!

Yelp
As a returning customer for breakfast, lunch, and dinner I would truly recommend Ranch Side Cafe to all with 10/10 stars. The excellent service is always provided with a smile and with such a welcoming ambiance, you feel at home upon entering. I've tried from all over the menu including the Mexican breakfast special, breakfast sampler, Sambusas, Summer vegan tacos, peach cobbler, and clearly on. Also, the salsa bar is amazing and very fresh! Looking forward to my next visit, and catching up with local friends.

Yelp
Always a pleasant lunch stop when traveling through the Foothill area. Comfortable, very much a neighborhood café, and not a lot of places to grab a bite around there, so pull over!

Yelp
This cafe has such a crazy menu full of Mexican, Ethiopian, and American that I thought there was no way anything on it could be decent with such a diverse menu. Well, they proved me wrong. I was intrigued with the Ethiopian option since there's no Ethiopian places near Long Beach. Well, it seemed like the restaurant owner was Ethiopian, so I think I chose right! I went with the vegetarian plate as well as the mushroom/veggie dish and both had a decent amount of flavor and nice injera. I also got the little beef pocket, which was delicious. Service was very friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend this little cafe! The desserts looked delicious too, although I skipped out on them this time around.

Yelp
Johan welcomed us. Nice shaded outside patio. We chose inside. Quite a menu and fresh baked cobbler available for dessert. Our party of 4 had: Eggs Benedict, BLT, Salmon dinner and Chicken enchiladas. All tasty, delivered warm and Johan was very attentive. We will be back!

Yelp
The simplicity of a small cafe in a ranch adjacent area was charming to the eye. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I had the 3 egg avocado and cheese omelette with hash browns. My eggs were perfectly cooked and the hash browns were ideally crisp on the outside and warm and buttery on the inside. I also had mimosa's which were a super generous portion! I love that! If you sit outside you can watch the caballos (horses) passing by every once in a while. Looking at the menu there are a lot of cafe style options and I think I will try some lunch options as well. I'm totally a fan and I will be back. Bathrooms could use a small paint job or upgrade only for the fact that it's a "bathroom" but great job Ranch Side Cafe.

Yelp
We were traveling and had been on the road for about 7hrs and needed some good food (read NOT fast food!) Such a cute little bistro with friendly staff and good energy! I got a heathy low-carb wrap with grilled chicken, my husband got a cheeseburger and fries. Everything was made to order, fresh, and delicious with good portions. Very easy on and off the freeway too! My only regret...this place is about 6hrs from home. But we'll stop again when we're in the area!
