The 13 Best Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes in Sisters | Eater Portland

"Rancho Viejo has been Sisters go-to Mexican restaurant for 25 years. Offering many classic Mexican dishes — burritos and taco, chimichangas and chili rellenos — each dish offers a heaping plate of food at a reasonable price. Mole, a staple in Mexican cuisine, serves as a reliable indicator of a dish’s regional flavors. In this case, the owners, Javier and Lorena Luna, bring family recipes from Zacatecas, resulting in a chicken en mole with a rich chocolate undertone and a subtle peanut butter flavor. But what truly sets this restaurant apart is its ambiance. Indoors, diners are surrounded by vibrant Mexican decor, while the outdoor area boasts a lush garden of flowers, complete with an outdoor bar that serves a delightful selection of margaritas made with freshly squeezed juices. It’s an ideal spot to unwind and enjoy a warm mountain evening." - Barb Gonzalez

Google
This is a great spot in Sisters for good Mexican food. The area is cozy and inviting and the bar is welcoming to quench any thirst. The service was excellent and friendly and knowledgeable. The food was freshly prepared as ordered. Drinks filled promptly. Prices were reasonable for the location. Parking can be tough depending on the season. Overall a nice place to eat.

Google
They have made a great escape on the back deck with privacy, shade and heating if needed. Very very good food and a great menu selection. I had the seafood relleno and it was great. The fresh squeezed margaritas were delicious. I recommend setting a budget, it's easy to eat a $200 meal with a group of 3

Google
Best margarita in town. Pineapple margarita with Don Julio, 🤤 Delicious food as well. We had chicken enchiladas and the chicken was perfect. Often you find chewy chicken in enchiladas but this was cooked perfect and not dry. The black beans and pico was authentic and delicious as well. Service was great too. We will eat here again.

Google
Very close to a 5 star experience, and would recommend when in Sisters! We came in not long before close on a Sunday and received excellent attention and service. Atmosphere was homey. Food and plating were very good (I had seafood enchiladas): elevated-casual fare for a Mexican restaurant. A little pricey (especially for those seeking tacos) and not the endless combinations I enjoy at some places, but no complaints!

Google
Really good dinner to celebrate the end of a long trip. Got the carne asada burrito but the whole menu looked really good. The tomatillo sauce was fantastic, way above expectations. The chips and salsa good. The restaurant itself is a little quirky and small so be ready to wait if you hit the normal rush times. It’s worth it.

Google
This is a do not miss!!! The food and drinks are all amazing. I got the ceviche and fajitas and they were incredible. The salsa they give you is so good (I’m a salsa snob) so definitely a win! Don’t skip the mezcal margarita because wow!

Google
Authentic Mexican food, cozy vibes. I sat inside and there was no ac, it did get quite hot but not a big deal. My house margarita was delicious, as well as the carne asada street tacos. The guac was made with overripe avocados, kinda warm and too mushy, I'd pass on those. But everything else was nice.

Google
Food was good, nothing to rave about. Nothing to complain about. Atmosphere is that pretty standard Mexican restaurant Service was good, although I tried to explain as clear as possible no cheese on the burrito, but there was still cheese.. Prices are on the higher side. Seems like it's hiked higher for the tourists.

Yelp
The spinach enchiladas were the best I've ever had! The service was very friendly. Ambiance was comfy and authentic. Incredible margaritas. So lucky we found this place!

Kim R.

Yelp
Good food and service. They could check on you a little more. We ran out of water and had to ask a bus boy for more. Overall the food was very good.

Yelp
Rancho Viejo is a smallish place but the seating is comfortable. Menu is fairly typical of Mexican joints. Food is solid, prepared well and the service is quick, if a bit wooden.

Yelp
We love visiting Sisters and this is one of our favorite restaurants. The food and drinks are always fantastic. The service is always friendly, but I felt like this time they were more dialed in. Maybe they've been short staffed in the past. Service was timely and on point this time! Ambiance is perfect!

Yelp
The expresso burrito was really good, had ice tea, service is average, ambience is like a small town mexican restaurant. A little pricey, but it's average for sisters.. I would recommend it.

Yelp
Passing through sisters and swung into here, reviews looked good. Waiter sat us in the bar section and served us the water with cheap foggy plastic cups and a pitcher of water to fill it ourselves. The next waiter came out to ask what we wanted to order and asked if we were 21 and if not we need to leave this section since it's 21+...we didn't ask to sit here lol she led us here, told him he could check out IDs if he wanted Food is VERY overpriced, rice and beans had no flavor and enchiladas verde were very mid my husband said. They charge 4.50$ for any additional chips and salsa LOL should've taken that as a a red flag. Enchiladas were 19$. We love trying New Mexican food wherever we are, this place did not impress, maybe try the food trucks nearby, or that other Mexican restaurant here

Yelp
This is my second time visiting Rancho Viejo. It was a very hot, smokey afternoon so we were looking for someplace with AC. I also knew from previous experience that their food is really good and served in Very generous portions. The tequila selection. Is good as well and their classic margarita hit the spot on that hot afternoon. Everyone enjoyed something different to eat, (I had the chicken tacos listed as an appetizer, not appetizer size for sure!, and delicious.) I plan on going back next time I pass through! The staff is friendly, and the young man in particular seemed to take his job very seriously, or perhaps he would have rather been riding his bike with friends instead - I think he was probably family. Regardless he was very professional and quick to get his job done.

Yelp
What a fun spot! We loved their fresh squeezed margaritas so much!! I had the grapefruit, and my wife had the Cadillac. They were amazing!! We also had the chicken fajitas, and they were delicious! The patio area was super cute and perfect for our dog. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Katie H.

Yelp
The food was amazing! We got the steak and spinach enchiladas, carne asada, and ceviche and it was so good. A little slow on service, but the food definitely made up for it. Our waitress was super kind!
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Best chips and salsa I've ever had! Their habanero sauce is life changing and delicious. I could eat it like soup! Will definitely be going back when able. Best Mexican food I've had in a very long time.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a small restaurant that seems to be busy very often. They were able to seat us right away. Our waitress brought out water for all of us to drink. We ordered chicken fajitas. They were made fresh and without a sauce. In my opinion they were really good and had a natural flavor to them. The prices were reasonable and comparable to similar restaurants and dishes. Friendly staff that deliver the food quickly to their customers.
google avatar

Yelp
The bar is good, very confrontational. Produce and guacamole is weak. Wish the Produce was better. Maybe they look at a local Produce company for better produce

Yelp
Craving Mexican and there aren't exactly major options in town. We dropped in on a Saturday night for dinner around 5. We walked in behind another couple, and although they weren't too busy we all just stood there without even a greeting until my husband finally approached a server to see if they had plans to seat us. After that we were seated fairly quickly, provided with menus and chips & salsa...but again, forgotten for a few minutes until I was able to get another servers attention. They've got a pretty decent menu from which to choose, and we ended up with enchiladas and a taco salad, as well as a house margarita for the hubby. The food came fast and very hot. The food was good and portions fair. The restaurant itself feels a bit sticky...assuming it's in need of a really good deep cleaning, especially considering the flies inside. We were batting at them the whole time. We certainly didn't leave hungry...honestly everything tasted good - nice hot salsa, crispy chips, and a pretty good margarita. Once we were finally helped and seated our service was friendly. Would I return? I'm not sure. Improvements needed in a few areas.

Yelp
Good food, Big servings. Server was quick and very polite. Macho Burritos had great presentation and yummy tender pork. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Cory B.

Yelp
Excellent. Carne asada and tacos al carbon were very tasty, and we have kids who are very picky about these kinds of things. Good spicy all around. Staff were very friendly. Owners have a great backstory. Strong recommend.
google avatar

Gary C.

Yelp
Not very good relative to other mexican restaurants. Bland chorizo in chimichanga, watery, bland sauce. Borderline disgusting.
google avatar

Clyde R.

Yelp
Decent food, not cheap for what you get, service was decent, but overpriced. Little loud it's a small place, I'd lower the combination prices as food costs with those meals are cheaper
google avatar

Karen Z.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Salsa was very flavorful, guacamole was great! All our entrees were delicious. Service was a little slow.
google avatar

Tia P.

Yelp
Vegan options, clean restaurant, delicious food, great service, well priced! My husband and I will be going back every time we visit this little city. We enjoyed having lunch here.
google avatar

Bijana K.

Yelp
Nachos were ALL THAT - seriously sabrosos! Honestly, I haven't been really into Mexican food in Oregon, because I feel like I can make it better at home, but this place was SPECIAL. Luckily, my spouse and I agreed to share, because those nachos were also HUGE! We left plenty satisfied! Staff were friendly and attentive. We sat in the bar, but the entire restaurant was packed and jumping. Fun atmosphere. I look forward to coming back next time I'm coming through Sisters.
google avatar

Yelp
Let's start with the chips. Crispy and light and even warm!!!! Perfect. We sat in the bar area where there was a sign for no minors allowed. Perfect again! Margaritas were good as was the spicy salsa. Very nice. Got a small queso that was very good. The wife had tacos al carbon which were okay but they put a sauce on the tortilla so hard to eat - mushy. chicken taquitos also had a sauce poured on them that made them mushy but tasty. I think we just picked wrong. Service good.

Abe D.

Yelp
Excellent food, friendly service. Wet, Vegetarian burrito: so yummy, fresh veggies, Excellent salsa.
google avatar

Cenobia G.

Yelp
Rancho has AMAzing Margaritas and delicious food! The salsa is the absolute best around.

Yelp
Fabulous Mexican food in Sisters, Oregon. My wife had chicken fajitas, and I had the caritas. Both were VERY flavorful and the portions were such that neither of us could finish our meals. We sat outside on the back patio, and though a bit chilly for a late spring day in Sisters, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would go back, but alas, we're from out of the area. Stop by if you're in the area. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Rancho Viejo is delicious !! Two thumbs up The food & service are fantastic !! Highly recommend.

Yelp
The food and service was awful. Our server was rude, wouldn't look us in the eye, and just made snide comments the entire time. They pre make their margaritas and you get mostly ice with it, but hey let's charge $13.50 for a tiny portion. The prices they charge for food are outrageous as well. Not worth it. For 2 people and 1 toddler it cost $80.00 before tip to eat and only person drank alcohol.

Jessica A.

Yelp
Amazing food but above all we loved the little runner boy and on top of that ambiance in there felt very hometown spot if you know what I mean but all around just a great experience
google avatar

Shenandoah J.

Yelp
I don't really write reviews but we're just not feeling good after eating here. Don't get me wrong the food was good, well portioned and overall tasted great! It was the service that was a bit of a let down unfortunately. When you walk in it's a little confusing but you have to walk up a little more to get seated, ordering went well and everything came out in a timely manner but the runner who brought the food out practically threw our plates at us and was huffing and puffing all around, there was a mix up with a side, we asked for sour cream instead of guacamole and on the plate there was guacamole so we asked the runner for sour cream because there was a mix up, again with the huffing "I guess I'll go get you some" but it never came along. When we finish our food we didn't get a bill until maybe 10-15 minutes after we had finished our food and then on the bill there was guacamole, we asked to have it removed because we hadn't asked for guacamole but sour cream, the waitress we had continued to say it was going to be more if she added it and we were asking to have it removed altogether because it wasn't touched and it was the wrong item but she just didn't see it that way or just refused so we left a tad unsatisfied.

Yelp
Excellent "traditional" Mexican fare. Good margaritas, not open for lunch since Covid wiped things out. Nice, comfortable setting with a bar and outdoor patio in season.
google avatar

E c.

Yelp
Not Really impressed! I guess my interpretation of mexican food is different from there's.
google avatar

Tom P.

Yelp
My wife & I were there in August and had a great meal. The food & service was excellent. I have one major negative comment. If I'm paying for 2 full entrees & alcoholic beverages, I shouldn't be charged ($3.50) for refills on chips. That's crazy and IMHO rude.
google avatar

Geni R.

Yelp
The partner had a craving for a smothered burrito so we thought we'd try this place out. I was nervous at first because their complimentary chips were stale. But the salsa was good and we were hungry. I would have gotten the ceviche, but didn't want more stale chips. The local Tres Arroyos Mexican lager was delicious. I had the small chicken tacitos with the chipotle sauce on the side. Perfect size for a small appetite and it was very delicious. The guacamole was also very flavorful. My partner got the Macho burrito and it totally hit the spot. It was huge and smothered in a tasty sauce. If the chips had been fresh this would have been 4 stars at least Would probably eat here again if we were passing through and wanted Mexican.

Amie L.

Yelp
Best Mexican food ever!! Chips, salsa, chimichangas, habenaros street tacos and yummy blackberry margs. The service is top notch too. Sisters has a real gem in this place!!

Nikki P.

Yelp
We usually eat here on our way in or out of Sisters. We really enjoy the quaint atmosphere and the outdoor area in back when the weather cooperates. Pets are welcome on the back deck if they are well behaved so that makes it convenient for us as we travel with our GSD. We usually get the Dos Tacos but occasionally try other offerings. The food and service is always good and the prices fair - which is saying a lot these days. Be warned, this is a small establishment so you may wait a bit for a group over 4.
google avatar

KT R.

Yelp
Don't walk--run to this outstanding Mexican restaurant. Excellent, fresh tasting, margaritas. Perfect rendition of Mexican dishes. We had one of the best Mexican food we've had in a long time. And we live in Santa Fe!
google avatar

Leticia V.

Yelp
What a hidden GEM! We stopped by on our way into Bend from Portland and we came just in time for Happy Hour. I would declare this place the most bang for your buck HH! We got the most delicious margaritas for $5 and all the entries for less than $8!! They were delicious! Plus we sat in the back patio and the vibe was so welcoming. The staff were sweet and genuinely happy to help serve us. We will NEVER not come here when in Sisters. Muchas Gracias!!!
google avatar

Ammon S.

Yelp
Meat was very very good and so was their spinach and steak enchiladas. The tortillas were those that you would buy at the grocery store. IMO, a Mexican restaurant just can't get away with that. Also, the service was very slow. No refills on soda etc. this place had high expectations as it had been recommended a bunch but probably wouldn't go back and opt for a food truck instead.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Good margaritas. The food was a bit disappointing. I had the street tacos with chicken, which were salty and dry. The service was friendly and fast.
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Less than good. Service was pretty bad and not just for us as we watched others wait to pay bill and get orders taken. It was a good 10 mins before we even got any water and never got a refill. We ordered nachoes and taqitoes which seemed to take a long while especially since they weren't busy. But to no surprise it was cold as it prob sat in the window for a good 15 mins before arriving. Gone down from an average place to eat.
google avatar

Corrie C.

Yelp
This is a "go-to" spot for our dearest friends that live in Sisters and it did not disappoint! Chile Relleno is my favorite and it was amazing! Great food and great customer service. Wish I took pictures but between the margaritas and good food and good company I ate it all! Be back again!

Gene P.

Yelp
Very good food, "OK" service, but a bit over-priced. For example, $13 margaritas. Also, a half-filled, small bowl of complimentrary chips for 3 people, and when asked for a refill, the waitress said that would be $3.50! Very loud inside.
google avatar

Rock B.

Yelp
Hearty portions, but nothing special to mention. It's family run and operated, which we really like and appreciate, but the food could be more interesting and flavorful, in our opinion. Friendly service, which is important, of course. Crazy busy, but every place in Sister's seems to be. The old Mexico decor is cool, something we all enjoyed.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
I want to like this place, but after several visits it just is not good. The place is cute, but the servers all seem unhappy and several are downright surly. The food is only average but the worst thing is the horrible oil they use to fry everything. The smell of rancid oil permeates the place and makes the chips (and anything deep fried) basically inedible. That one fix and having people greet you with a smile and this place could jump up to 4 stars but alas it isn't.

Lucas C.

Yelp
It's amazing. Get the seafood enchiladas. Muy bueno. I'll have to come back every time I go to sisters. A restaurant you must eat at when you are in sisters.

Terri E.

Yelp
Everything was great!!! Food and margaritas were delicious. Service was great! It was recommended and I'm glad we went!
google avatar

Kylie R.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. It's always consistent and great food! Friendly attentive staff and fabulous margaritas! Beautiful patio also.
google avatar

Wade N.

Yelp
Good place. The food was not spectacular. The service was average if not slow. There are too many good options in town to RVer return.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
We're from Los Angeles area, and have eaten at this restaurant several times in the two weeks we've been here. I'm not sure what these bad reviews are complaining about, because it is very apparent that this is a family run restaurant that puts a lot of time and love into their food and their service. We've had consistently awesome customer service, and consistently phenomenal food. The food is flavorful, authentic, and presented beautifully. The drinks are good, and the fruit margaritas are using actual fruit puree and lime. We found the restaurant to not only be clean, but beautifully decorated. I would recommend this beautiful, tasty, family run restaurant to anyone. In the many times we've been here, whether busy or slow, the two of us have had awesome, prompt service and care.

Yelp
My takeout this evening wasn't great and I had high hopes. Probably better for sit down dining.
