Los Angeles Icon Randy’s Donuts Opening First of 10 Shops in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"An icon in the Los Angeles area since 1952, with a 32-foot giant rooftop sign atop its original Inglewood location that has become an area landmark, Randy’s Donuts is finally landing in San Diego: the first of 10 planned stores is scheduled to open Wednesday, May 3 on Murphy Canyon Road at Aero Drive directly off Interstate 15. The shop will be decorated inside with a mural of the San Diego skyline topped with a 3D Randy’s Donuts sign and will offer special opening giveaways, including a free glazed raised doughnut for customers who come in from when doors open at 6 a.m. until noon and free doughnuts for a year for 25 lucky customers. The menu will include more than 60 different varieties of doughnuts — from classic and seasonal flavors to deluxe creations — as well as Randy’s Rounds (large doughnut holes), and Randy’s proprietary coffee blend will be the base for espresso drinks, cold brew, and frappes. Owner Mark Kelegian has entrusted the San Diego expansion to local franchisee Emilio Támez (who owns Taqueria Revolucion and Sadie’s Hand-Crafted Ice Cream), and this new San Diego store will be the first Randy’s Donuts to serve doughnut sandwiches filled with vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream made at his artisan creamery." - Candice Woo

Being an LA transplant I'm very happy to enjoy Randy's here in San Diego. Favorite is the chocolate chronut (not sure about the spelling) but they are amazing 😝

Google
I did enjoy the flavor of the donuts at Randy's Donuts. The major aspect of this donut shop that people need to be aware of is how busy it is. Prepare yourself to wait. I waited 35 minutes after getting in line 10 minutes before the 6am opening time. With the combination of people ordering 7 boxes of donuts and issues with the credit card machine, this was a slow experience. I ordered a raspberry filled donut as well as a chocolate glazed donut. They tastes good, but there needed to be more filling in the jelly donut. Overall, I would recommend waiting several months before visiting this spot. The staff was friendly and helpful, I appreciated that.

Google
Best service and donuts near me! Chris is fantastic and made me feel so welcome to the area when we first moved here last year. He always remembers me when I come in. Donuts are always fresh and tastes great. Great variety.

Christina O.

Google
This place is a donut lovers heaven. Great variety of specialty donuts. The Oreo and Cinnamon Toast Crunch donuts were delicious. The ultimate experience is the warm donut with icecream in the middle coated in cinnamon and sugar. Honestly, I'd pass on the coating next time, but I'd recommend they offer a powdered sugar toping instead.

Google
I woke up at 4am to attend the grand opening! I was among the first 50 people to receive a signature Randy’s donuts cup which I can get coffee until the end of 2023. A big shout out to the management team for organizing this! I was greeted with warm welcomes from the staff. The donut selection was nothing short of impressive. I counted 56 donut types among the Classic, Deluxe, Fancy, and Premium. It’s a bit overwhelming to try just one at a time. Fortunately it’s $2 off if you order a dozen. The interior of the shop has a handful of tables to accommodate those who want to eat inside. There’s also a huge donut on the wall if you want to take a picture. If you visit before noon (12pm) on May 3rd, you’ll get a free raised glazed donut! It’s delicious!

Google
5/12/2023: this donut shop has been around since 1952, but is new to San Diego. Service was decent considering there was a good sized line. Donuts were good. I especially like the Matcha and the blueberry cake one. They were out of stock on some of them. They do NOT have a maple bacon. That should be rectified ASAP! Lol. On the negative side, the coffee was sour and awful. I had to pour it out.

Faith M.

Google
Incredible donuts & incredible service. I come here monthly for donuts. Their Nutella donut is my favorite. Their ham & cheese croissants are also delicious. It’s always a pleasure seeing Chris or Alma working. They have amazing customer service!

chris E.

Google
Bought a dozen donuts and tried a variety. Seems like some of the donuts are way better than others. Tried my favorites. The chocolate cake donut was average. Chocolate old fashioned was pretty good. The butter crumb was very good and so was the cinnamon crumb. The only one I didn’t like was the glazed old fashioned which is too bad because that’s always my go to choice. This on tasted bad like old oil. Overall I thing some of the donuts were better than your average shop but the rest of them were pretty much what you can get at your local shop. The place was clean and the staff were all courteous and helpful.

Yelp
Good day everyone! I'm buying some donuts at Randy's Donuts on Murphy Canyon Rd, San Diego location to share with some peeps. This location is new to me and only been to the one in Chula Vista. The donuts look and smell amazing!! I took a bite out of one already....shhhh! Hope everyone has a fantastic day! Happy Yelping :)

Yelp
BOY WHAT IS GOING ON with that 3.9 star average rating?! This place needs a slamma jamma 6 out of 5 star rating let me tell you what, I've had many a donut and a donut hole and this place could put the holes in my mouth hole any day of the week! The berry-flavored donuts, and the citrus flavored ones, the coffee ones, all of it, just NBA Jam it right into my jamhole and let me blast off like Team Rocket into my brain socket. The donuts here are much sweeter than other places which is great for me, may not be for you, but if it isn't for you, then all those other places you can just mosy on over to, pardner. The drinks are fairly good, not as good as the donuts, but it's a DONUT PLACE. Also a huge variety of donuts, clean tables, good location right off the freeway, really just need to slap the donuts out of someone else's mouth so I can chomp it off the ground like a bird.

Yelp
I tried this new(ish) location of Randy's donut and was SO excited!! The building was tucked away in a corner and it was bright and clean inside. The teen running the cash register was sweet but had no clue what was going on. He was busy talking to his co-workers. ‍‍ When I ordered he told me they were sold out... but they weren't. The kind man behind me helped me order and told the young man what was in stock. Bless this kind delivery man for knowing the menu/stock better than the workers! I ordered a jalapeño and cheese and a cro-nut and both were EXCELLENT despite the lackluster service.

Yelp
I just want through $7 in the trash. I bought 2 donuts. They were absolutely the worst donuts I have ever had. One was a 'crondy' the other a raised coffee. They both had a horrible old oil taste that is awful and does not go away. The raised coffee had no coffee flavor. It was disgustingly sweet. The small bite I took was the heaviest doughiest donut I have ever eaten. It is even heavy to pick up. The dough inside is raw. It is also obvious that the donuts are not made on site and are brought in from another location. These are not designer or premium donuts. They are sub par with cereal or broken cookies/churro on top. Chula Vista has enough that are not on site donut shops like Donut Bar and Crispy Crème.

Yelp
Finally got a chance to come visit this establishment! I was greeted pleasantly by the employee who had a smile on her face the whole time. They have a great variety of cake and raised donuts. I only tried the raised as I'm not a fan of cake donuts but I must say, the cake ones also looked enticing so I'll be coming back to try those in the Future! I ordered the chocolate raised, sprinkles raised and coffee raised. While the donuts reminded me of mom and pop shop donuts, what set Randy's apart is their flavor! Their donuts are flavorful and the amount of frosting is a good layer... Not too thin but not too thick. We thoroughly enjoyed the donuts we chose! Parking is also plentiful which is great!

Yelp
I've been dying to try Randy's donuts since they opened. Finally got to do so. Overall, it's ok. When it comes to donuts, I'm comparing this to my old school donut shops like Rose or Christy's. Donuts like that remind me of my childhood. So, Randy's has this new school/new flavor combo thing going with cereal, churro, bacon toppings. Honestly, I prefer a traditional chocolate twist or glaze. Call me basic when it comes to donuts. The shop was decorated super cute and I enjoyed looking at all the murals on the walls. Plenty of parking is a plus. The customer service was on point and the nice lady told me to try their popular crumb donut. She was right, it was the best donut out of my box.

Yelp
I tried Randy's Donuts for the first time recently, selecting some of my favorite types to sample. Here's what I thought: Strawberry jelly donut: Five stars - delicious! Glazed buttermilk bar: Three stars - decent. Plain buttermilk bar: Two stars - dry. Apple fritter: Five stars - fantastic! Crumb doughnut: Three stars - a bit too doughy. Blueberry glazed cake doughnut: Three stars - somewhat dry. Blueberry frosted cake doughnut: Five stars - great flavor. Overall, the average rating comes out to 3.7 stars, but I would personally rate them 4 stars.

Yelp
Hey, did you know that Randy's Donuts or Doughnuts has come done from Inglewood, Los Angeles to San Diego, California. No, really, they have. They are down on Murphy Canyon Road. I was driving by, and it was like, "Hey, it's Randy's Donuts, I am in!" I've never been, so the very nice lady helped me out and recommended the Butter Crumb Raised, which was a great choice, and I chose the Lemon Old Fashion, which was terrific. They didn't have a cortado on the menu, so I ordered the Caffè macchiato. I loved the lemon flavor and texture of the lemon old fashion. The frosting was lemony, and so was the cake part of the doughnut. The Butter Crumb was fantastic. It was super soft and tasted great. It was a winner. I do plan to return to try some new flavors. The macchiato was good, but not as good if it was a cortado. The staff members were all super friendly. Thank you for coming to San Diego Randy!

Yelp
Great doughnut spot, they are always fresh and they also have an online service and application so that your order will be ready upon arrival

Yelp
I rarely give 1 star reviews but I honestly could not have been more disappointed with this specific Randy's Donuts experience/location. I've been to Randy's Donuts in LA and was super excited to try out this new San Diego location but quickly discovered that the quality at this location is much much worse. I came around 3:00 PM on a Wednesday and got 4 donuts: - Red Velvet donut - Blueberry donut - Glazed Blueberry donut - Cinnamon Toast Crunch donut The Red Velvet and both Blueberry donuts are cake donuts and were all surprisingly really dry. The baseline flavors of each one of them were good but they were all so abnormally dry it really made them unpleasant to eat. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch donut is like a regular puffy glazed donut but topped with Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and another type of frosting. Unlike the Red Velvet and Blueberry donuts, the donut itself was good but the cereal on top was extremely stale! Like it has been in a bag that was left out for a week kind of stale. If this cereal was in my own pantry, I would waste no time throwing it out. I'm really not sure why the quality was so poor at this Randy's location. I do like Randy's Donuts in general and I really hope they turn it around at this specific location. And also, in case you're wondering, there is no giant donut attached to the building but I give them a pass on that one.

Yelp
Best apple fritter I've had in ages! Was also crazy about the raised topped with Nutella - yum! We went with friends and cut doughnuts so we could taste them all. And they were all good.

Ellen S.

Yelp
Went to the new Chula Vista store on opening day. I ordered a apple fritter and it was really good(moist/lots of apple bits & not too much frosting). Even though they have a small footprint they offer many different kinds of donuts(3 cases) I was welcomed and service was quick. Will go again and try others donuts

Yelp
Me and my sister waited outside from 10:30am for their 6am grand opening!! Worth the wait. It's a cute small donut shop with many donut options to choose from. I had to get churro con cajeta.. SOO BOMB. Also got my fav drink is the spiced chai latte The staff are so friendly and welcoming :)

Yelp
Randy Donuts is a very special place for Donuts especially the Ice cream sandwiches with 3 flavors available, Vanilla , strawberries and Nutella. You feel you want to try them all

Yelp
A family member of a patient apparently brought a box from Randy's Donut to work today so this ended up being the first time I could try donuts from this place. I'm guessing the lines at the store aren't going out the door anymore now that summer is over, but I don't know that for sure. Anyway, I had a chocolate old fashioned, which tasted good, though the texture felt a bit dry and chalky. I took two other donuts home with me. Hopefully, they're a bit better. Update: The round chocolate donut may have been the best donut I've had in a long while.

Yelp
Randy's donuts in SD. Always wanted to know the hype and some of the donuts delivered. Service was great and both people behind the counter were sweet and helpful when we came around 2pm on a Thursday. It was empty inside but they still had good stock of donuts. Hate when donut places have nothing left. Some flavors were gone but they still had a good variety left midday. The two that stood out were the chocolate crondy (croissant doughnut baby). So buttery and good. That donut was gone first. They do their glazed raised donut really well. I would've gotten another one of those instead of the other three we got. Least favorite was the lemon old fashioned. Too lemony but like an artificial lemon taste. Maple Bacon was ok, nothing special. Blueberry glazed cake was also nothing special. Would go again to bring donuts to a party or to grab the crondy or regular glazed.

Yelp
Came here on a Tuesday morning when I had CPR in the area. I had been wanting to try it but was worried about lines. There was one customer leaving when I showed ip. I was greeted and asked for time to try and decide what to get. I decided to pick up some donuts foe my family to enjoy. Donuts I got: 1. Maple long john with bacon-premium 2. Blueberry cake-deluxe 3. Blueberry iced cake-deluxe 4. M&M raised-fancy 5.Chocolate long john-deluxe 6. Butter crumb raised-fancy The chocolate long john was for me and I snarfed it down. It was tasty. The blueberry donut was ok. I have had better from other donut shops. Kidlet only ate a few bites of their M&M raised. My husband said the maple long john with bacon had too much bacon. The butter crumb was not good. I can't even describe the taste. It was like a donut with a bitter taste (closest description I have is sour cream) and it was crumbly. It didn't taste like a cake donut or a a regular donut. I had none of the blueberry iced donut and no one gave feed back so it must have been ok. Something to note. These donuts are PRICEY (hence why I put what tier of donut they fall into. I assume deluxe is the least expensive then fancy then premium. They also have classic. I got 6 donuts and it was $17.90. The inside is small and doesn't have tables or seating. They have a painted decorative wall. It was clean and bright. Overall a solid spot I would go to if in the area but wouldn't go out if my way to go.

Yelp
Came here around 9:30 in the morning and got 2 dozen donut holes, called Randy's Rounds. Glazed $5 for a dozen, Iced $6 per dozen, and Topped $7 per dozen. I got a dozen iced and glazed. Glazed are just like a plane glazed donut, iced are either chocolate or maple I got 6 of each. They were pretty good but all pretty dry. The donuts had a nice crispy outside which I think is the appeal, but the inside was kinda dried out. I guess Randy's has been an LA staple for a long time, but I think the donut game as progressed a lot in the last 10 years. So the flavors might have been a big hit 50 years ago but today they aren't that special. I was surprised that at 9:30 they were pretty dry already. One thing I did notice that there were racks of donuts just resting in the open air behind the counter. I think that's what accounts for them being dry, if they were put immediately into the case where there was limited air flow they might stay moist for longer. I think they should make less donuts more often to keep them fresher and only enough to fit in the case so they stay moist. Staff was friendly, there was lots of parking in front though the location is a little out of the way sort of behind McDonalds. The donuts were ok, although I only got donut holes, I thought the regular donuts were a bit on the pricy side.

Yelp
Yo, dudes and dudettes! Captain 619 here, stoked to give you the lowdown on Randy's Donuts in San Diego. Let me tell you, it's like catching the perfect wave on a sunny day, minus the gnarly wipeouts. This place is the real deal when it comes to satisfying your sweet tooth cravings. As you cruise up to Randy's, you might notice one thing missing - that iconic big donut on top of the shop. But don't let that bum you out, because once you step inside, it's a whole new world of sugary goodness. The customer service is totally rad, with smiles that could brighten up even the gloomiest of days. And the donuts? Oh man, they're pure deliciousness, my friends. Now, I gotta be honest, my photos won't do justice to these mouthwatering treats. But trust me, once you crack open that box, it's like they're whispering, "Eat me, dude!" Randy's has totally replaced my go-to donut spots in San Diego, and for that, I'm forever grateful. Thanks for making the move down here, Randy! So, what did I snag from this donut paradise? Well, I couldn't resist grabbing two powdered jelly donuts, because who can say no to the cute twins? And of course, a couple of chocolate ones for that rich, indulgent flavor. But the real winners were the butternut powdered and cinnamon powder donuts. They were calling out my wife's name from miles away, I swear! Randy's, you've earned my hard-earned five stars and a snap. You've become my go-to spot for all things donut-related in San Diego. So, if you're looking for a taste of pure bliss, head on over to Randy's Donuts. Trust me, dudes and dudettes, you won't be disappointed. Catch you on the sweet side!

Yelp
Friendly and welcoming staff, minimalist aesthetic (no tables or seats), above average doughnuts - better than chains (Dunkin' and KK), but not at the level of some craft shops (Sidecar and Blue Star are tops). Reminds me of Donut Bar. We recommend the crondy for the texture, and the butter crumb for the flavor. S'mores and Cinnamon Toast Crunch were overly sweet. Blueberry glazed was ordinary, the maple bar is better without the cream (though very generous filling).

Yelp
I attended Randy's Donuts grand opening and the line was around the building.  I met Iron Man and friendly employees brought out glazed donuts. Glazed donut was fresh off the rack and had that heavenly fresh donut aroma.  Sweet yeast based donut was soft and fluffy.  Melted in my mouth.  Loved the sweet flavor. Apple fritter had a crispy outer layer and soft inner layer.  Sugary glaze on top adds lots of sweetness while the plentiful apples give this treat a burst of apple flavor.  One of my favorite apple fritters due to the plentiful apples.  I only ate half as it was huge and too sweet to eat the whole fritter. Sugar raised donut was a traditional yeast based donut which was fluffy and sugar sprinkles provided just the right amount of sweetness.  Loved the flavor. Blueberry glazed cake donut was full of blueberry bits in the cake batter and in the sugary glaze.  Sweet and full of blueberry flavor.  Very good tasting as long as you love blueberries. Randy's donuts has an excellent selection of traditional donuts at traditional prices.  Staff is very friendly and helpful.  Next time I think I'll try a cinnamon roll and an old fashioned.

Yelp
The donuts are subpar at best. There's better places out there. I should've listened to my bff, when she said they were not worth the trial. Staff looked like they didn't want to be there. No smiles. Looking all wanting the day to end. Ambiance is well clean... nothing really special about it. You guys are better off going to another Mom n Pop place than this here. I was so sad that most people are right about it. Truly sad.

Yelp
Saturday morning was a donut morning. We headed over to Randy's donut to checkout what the hype was all about. We were greeted by very friendly employees. The donut display was full and fresh with lots of assortment of yummy donuts. A dozen donuts sells for $26.00 a dozen. Wow, was surprised at the price. They were moist and not stale. Very fresh and tasty. Good portion size per donut. Delicious donuts, Great customer service.

Yelp
This LA import had folks lining up shortly after midnight on May 3rd to become the first customers in line to score some of the promotions that were being offered at their grand opening. I'm glad I was patient enough to find a pocket to visit in between Wednesday and this first weekend of business. Based on the most recent feedback, San Diego's first Randy's Donut store was unable to meet the high demand from this morning. I decided to come to this Serra Mesa location on Friday in the mid-afternoon. The good news was the queue didn't stretch out the front door, and there were ample spaces in the parking lot. The bad news was the line snaked around the inside and still ended up taking over half an hour before reaching the service counter. The selection of available donuts was less than half (1/3?) of what was listed on the menu screens. Prices per donut were $2.10 (Classic), $2.35 (Deluxe), $2.95 (Fancy), and $3.95 (Premium) with $2 off for purchasing a dozen within any category. This seemed reasonable given how the local gourmet donut purveyors charge four dollars or more for their products. Most people were walking out the door with a box containing a dozen or more of the goodies. I decided to select a few so I could finish them before they become dry and stale. My choices were a Glazed Twist (Classic), Sugar Raised (Classic), Blueberry Iced Cake (Deluxe), and Strawberry Jelly Filled (Fancy). For a total of less than $10, I thought these four donuts were solid. The dough was soft and pillowy while the size was good for the price. The strawberry jelly was my favorite because of how decadent it was. Other than the waiting time, I had no other issues with my experience at Randy's Donut.

Yelp
So glad Randy's is now in San Diego. They always have such great options. They have a lot of toppings that other donut shops don't have. Their dough is very raised and fluffy. The toppings are always really sweet but it's definitely worth a try at least once in your life. There is lots of hype around this place and the lines are probably going to be long for a while! Service is really friendly. Parking is easy. Once the hype dies down a little, and the line isn't an hour long, I think this will be a solid donut shop to stop by for fun donuts.
google avatar

Gary N.

Yelp
I've been to Randy's location in LA and even Bakersfield in the past years, just excited that they finally opened one for San Diego, also happened to be on the first day of grand opening, of course the place was packed way before 6 AM with a full parking lot and also the tv station was here in a long line of people trying to be the first 25 or 50 people to get the free donuts or coffee for the whole year, anyway I wasn't there early, just on my way to Walmart and got curious :) My favorite one from Randy's is still the giant bear claw, for the size obviously , and if you pair that with coffee, it's the best breakfast to start your day, now that Randy's is here to stay, they should expand a few more locations for SD so people can get their morning fix. Today I tried the Maple Bacon Long John, it was perfect, savory and sweet at the same time, totally recommended

Yelp
The iconic Randy's donut in LA is now in San Diego. It was such a big deal for my friend and I when we visited in 2011 in LA and now 12 years later, it's literally in my backyard. I came in the evening so most of the popular flavors were gone. I stuck to my go-to flavors of glazed and sugar. I was disappointed. I found the dough to be dry. It wasn't soft or fluffy. Could be because it's an old batch from the morning. They have breakfast sandwiches and coffee. I think it's a great location next to McD for early birds who want donuts and breakfast.

Galang N.

Yelp
I really do try to stay away from the hype but Randy's Donuts was requested by the coworkers today. I got here at 8 am on a Tuesday and it was not busy. The was restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly and gave fast service. The donuts themselves are your standard fare. A few classics mixed in with some razzle dazzle toppings. The dough itself was light and fluffy and surprisingly lasted a long time. I munched in some around 8 pm and the quality was still decent. It's definitely a good donut shop to throw in the repertoire!

Yelp
My mom & I have been waiting in line since 10:20am for the GRAND OPENING of Randy's Donuts. (May 4, 2023) This is the same donut shop that originated in Los Angeles. I was aware of their Burbank location, when I've attended a Jay Leno taping in Burbank years ago!! It was HILARIOUS to see an Iron Man in costume (black & gold) passing out COMPLIMENTARY donuts!! Piper baked the donuts, LOL .

Yelp
The service is five stars. The lines are still super long because of the grand opening, but the staff comes out to greet you with a smile and to take donut orders of people in line instead of waiting to go all the way to the counter. I went around 3pm so there weren't a ton of donuts left, but the ones I loved were still available. The staff was super gracious the entire time. The place is clean, well lit, easy to find, and with decent parking. I am a huge fan of people who work hard to do a good job, so shout out to the guy who threw in an extra donut for us. There's also a sweet spot to take photos with the the iconic donut. The food? No. I got a vanilla glazed cruller, and midway through I realized how stale the donut was. My wife's donut (chocolate cake with chocolate frosting) tasted horribly. I love donuts, but I couldn't bear the taste. I don't know if it was a bad batch or a bad day, but it was just gross. The only way I could describe it was that it tasted a bit like they overused baking soda or has WAY too much salt. It was also stale. The clerk said the bakers were among tomorrow's donuts today. This means that the donuts you get are usually at least 18 hours old. If you come in the PM, probably longer. The donuts are mad stale. It was $28 and they asked for a tip (I gave one). My local spot, Sesame Donuts, serves similar donuts for about $9 cheaper. I just can't see a return to Randy's. Go for the ambience, but go to Vons to get a donut. Hell, come over to my house and I'll give you my 2nd one.

Yelp
Poor common sense made me go the day after the grand opening. I had heard that people were waiting in line at 1 AM on the day of the grand opening in order to get their freebies. However, I thought the excitement would've simmered down by day 2. I was wrong. The line was out the door (maybe about 15 people outside of the store) and there was a substantial line inside as well. My aunt's too late tip is that the crowd usually gets better 1-2 months after opening. I found the sugar donut to be too sweet but it had good texture yet an odd mouth feel. No one has been able to understand that description but that's my take. I'd be willing to give it another go in a couple of months.

Yelp
After decades of seeing the OG location on the news as high speed cases go by, I was happy to finally try the infamous "giant donut place". It was way better than expected. Upon first walking up I saw a massive line, but surprisingly they moved the line pretty efficiently. We got a little of almost every, but will be back to try others later on. My favorite was the donut hole items, I think they were called Randy rounds. I was told they were like donut holes, but in the end the surprise was they were more like mini donuts, and probably twice the size of a typical donut hole. They have a photo opp if your so include with a 3D half donut on the wall. The staff was really nice too.

Yelp
I'm usually happy with Randy's donuts because we order to have them delivered but this we ordered for delivery Wednesday evening The driver delivered them and told me that they ran out of the donuts I ordered and they threw some other ones in there.thats what the delivery driver told me. He said that she told me to tell you that they ran out of the donuts you ordered and she threw some other ones in thereI feel as though I should've been called so that way I could've canceled my order because the ones I really wanted did not arrive. That was very disappointing and upsetting I feel as tho I should of been called

Yelp
Came here on the first day and boy was the line long!! I was the first 50 so I won free coffee for a year. The service was amazing even for being as busy as it was. The donuts were a little pricey but it was definitely worth it. They were tasty and had some good flavor to their donuts. So glad we finally have a Randy's donut in San Diego. And thanks to the donut crew who made the wait so worth it.

Yelp
Went here the second week it opened and again this past June 3rd. Knowing a good donut such as Nomad (North Park), Sidecar (Del Mar), VG (Cardiff) and Mary's (Santee) - Randy's was good in that it was above the Rose donuts and Yum Yum's but still lacked the unique OMG taste of the others. A big disappointment was any of the Matcha Tea, Cinnamon Toast, and Oreo raised donuts did not stick to the donuts. Pretty much fell off as soon as you take a bite. Might as well just have a plain donut and add the garnish (Oreo, etc) at home. Service both times was good and noted that each time I went (around 9-10 am) the kitchen was empty of bakers. Only racks and racks of donuts most likely baked early early in the morning. At least at the above donuts, I mentioned (Mary's or Sidecar) - the donuts are fresh and if you come in at the right time, still warm!

Yelp
We have been here 3 times. I have to say great donuts each time. We like non-cake donuts so I can't say I have tried theirs yet. My favorite is the raised coffee donut and my husband's is the butter crumb (despite being a chocolate glazed go-to guy he will order this over chocolate ) and amazing customer service 3/3 times. Place is clean, and we have experienced waves of crowds. So if you get lucky there isn't a line and you can ogle at the fancy donuts for a bit. Today there were 3 people ahead of me who were pretty quickly helped, one server took time to assist a younger customer with deciding on what ice cream flavor he wanted in his donut ice cream sandwich (note to self: must try next time) the line behind me grew so another person from the back came out to help the 2 women in the front. This was my first time ordering coffee here but decided, why not since they were extra friendly, personable and helpful today for the 2/2 employees who spoke with me. Note to those getting iced coffee, and reason I felt compelled to post today (no pics of iced coffee on yelp to review here)... I have to say this "large iced coffee" is the smallest, large iced coffee I've ever ordered (except in Japan). I checked the website but it doesn't show how big a cup should be. While the person I ordered with didn't make it himself, he did walk it out to me, so I'm pretty sure it's their large iced cup size, but gosh it's so tiny! lol I'm a Starbucks drinker when I splurge or really need caffeine, so this is a pic of my venti Starbucks cup next to their "large iced coffee." Bright note they do have non-dairy options available (oat milk and almond milk). I'll definitely be back but probably won't order iced coffee here if I'm hurting for caffeine. Coffee tastes ok. But I'm here for the donuts anyway.

Yelp
Stopped by in our way home from LA, it was mid afternoon and there wasn't a whole lot of selection and maybe that was partially why the doughnuts were average and not anything out of the ordinary. For being mid afternoon doughnuts they were still soft and a good bite except the pumpkin spice doughnut that was dry. I was told the best way to have their doughnuts is to pre-order the night before and pick up for freshness.

Yelp
I came in at about 06:45 this morning, and there was no wait at all. It was deciding what donuts to get that took the longest. Lol The employees are friendly; great customer service! There is a large variety of donuts to choose from and the price differs.. Classic - $2.10, Deluxe - $2.35, Fancy - $2.95, Premium - $3.95. If you purchase a dozen donuts, you get $2 off. The donuts were light and fluffy. My friends who had one, all said it was so good. There is plenty of parking, although it does get a bit hectic in the plaza during lunch hours.

Yelp
We had a not so great experience at the LA Randy's donuts - they weren't that fresh. But here at the SD Randy's donuts, they were super fresh and yummy. My husband loved them. Def recommend checking it out.

Yelp
Located in the Walmart shopping center, near McDonald's. They serve your traditional donuts like Maple Bars, Apple Fritters, Sprinkles, & more. They also serve unique flavors like Matcha. & do not forget your coffee!

Yelp
There was so much hype with the opening of this place. I decided to wait awhile until the buzz died down so i wouldnt have to worry about lines. I came on a Wednesday afternoon (4pmish) and there was still a good amount of people waiting to order. It went fast though, as my whole transaction was about 10 min from start to getting in the car. Located in a strip type mall near Walmart. Plenty of parking. There were some donuts that were already sold out. I really wanted to try the crondy (croissant donut) but i was told those usually sell out in the mornings. Decided to sample a few: Butter crumb raised Nutella raised Blueberry cake Devils cake Ice chocolate cake Maple glaze cake 2 original glazed donut holes Original glazed raised donuts were good in size. The donut hole was a perfect size for my daughter. Out of all of them, the butter crumb raised, nutella raised and blueberry cake ended up being the winners for us. The cake donuts were ok, but tasted a bit dry (with the exception of the blueberry). All in all, they were pretty good. Staff were really nice too!

Yelp
Finally go to try Randy's Donuts here in San Diego. I've been here several times since they have opened and each time I was greeted with the sign on the door that said "Sorry Sold Out". I visited on "National Donut" day, when they were giving a free "Classic" donut to every customer. There were about 20 people in line before me, but the place was well staffed and the line was moving pretty fast. We waited about 20 minutes. Randy's has several varieties of donuts...Classic, Deluxe, Fancy and Premium. Classics are your basic more traditional donut all the way up to the premium donuts that were donuts topped with all kinds of toppings. All in all they had a wide selection of flavors. We did a mixed box with Fancy and Premium donuts. And we also got our free classic donut for "National Donut" day. How did they taste??? These are very good quality donuts. They are not dried out like so other donut places. I had a classic glazed donut and the donut had some weight to it. It was soft, delicious and very moist. I also had a premium Oreo Raised which was amazing! Cost...your classic donut is going to start at $2.10 each going up to the Premiums that were $3.95 each. In my opinion this is an average cost for a quality donut. Of course buying by the dozen saves you a little...and who goes for just one donut anyways??? The staff was very friendly and helpful. They also have cool hip-hop and R&B music playing in the lobby. I total digged the vibe. If you can get there early, that's the best time for best selection. All of my other visits in the last month were in the early afternoon and they were sold out. We will be back again for sure!

Yelp
The hubby and I were one of the crazies who decided to check out Randy's the first week they opened. There was so much buzz and activity about what everyone around us was going to order that we changed our minds at least a dozen times while we waited. We ended up getting 5 donuts which were all pillowy and delicious. The butter crumb could quite possibly be in the top 10 of best donuts out there. It is dense yet somehow airy, rich and buttery with these delicious pockets of crumbs that stick the the glaze. It's a donut you want to eat fresh. Just don't wear a black shirt while doing so. I took a bite of everything else which was good. The twist was huge, not overly sweet. The maple bar even bigger and while the hubby wanted the maple cream filled version (they were out), the regular bar was just as good. Their maple is quite good and not over the top. The donuts everyone seemed to order which we did not were the churro topped one, matcha donut, cherry glazed cake, and the Nutella. I thought the coffee glazed one looked good so maybe next time. They have 4 tiers of donuts (classic, deluxe, fancy, premium) ranging from $2-$4 per donut. You can mix and match a dozen since you're essentially paying per donut, per tier. The guy in front of us spent $72 on 2-dozen. I would've only given them a 3-star review but they butter crumb put it over the top.

Yelp
I wasn't too sure what to expect. I'd never been to a Randy's Donuts before so a noob here as well. The variety was great to see! Cerise topped to oversized! The donuts themselves were delicious! The big boys " Texans" were canoe in texture and definitely tantalizing! Just moist and canoe enough to eat and feel all the joy a donut is supposed to share. I did not try but my family and friends stated the cereal topped ones (fruity pebbles & fruit loops) were not so crispy as one would hope. The thought is they had been sitting. If just made then I'm sure their opinion would be change. I will definitely go back to try others and to quell that donut hunger!

Yelp
Didn't see anything special I was interested in. Ordered some old standby's, chocolate coverd old fashioned and a chocolate buttermilk. Was surprised at the cost. Expensive (for a regular donut) and average. Service was okay, but felt like employees doing a job. Go to Christy's Donuts down the street for a better deal and better donuts and more personal feeling.

Yelp
The nutella raised donut and chocolate crondy are flawless! These were fresh and better than the ones I've had at the Downey/LA county location. Chocolate crondy ($2.95): crispy and chewy with just the right sweetness. Also has a glaze and is by far the best croissant donut in the market. 10/10! Nutella raised donut ($3.95): crispy and chewy as well, but the nutella hits different, 10/10! Service was warm and lively, 10/10!

Yelp
Every time I come to Randy's donuts I am always amazed at the consistently delicious quality and the size of the donuts. There is a large selection. Some of my favorites are the churro donut, red velvet, maple long john filled with cream, and apple fritter! I also love how large the Homer Simpson donut is (pink with sprinkles)! Compared to the Randy's donuts in El Segundo, the donuts here are even fresher! The workers are always friendly and helpful. There is also plenty of seating with tables inside for you to enjoy your donut with a cup of coffee. The con is that donuts are on the pricier side, especially for the basic standard donuts where you could get at a mom and pop shop for under $2. There are 4 tiers of donuts and prices range from ~$2 - $4.

Yelp
I have excited to try their donuts since seeing all the hype on television. Donuts cost an arm & a leg. Nice selection but my donuts were greasy and lacked flavor. I had to wait quite a while to place my order. It was crowded. In my opinion there are better donuts on just about every corner in San Diego that taste much better and won't cost you nearly as much. The location is clean and well lit. This location has been open for a while now but staff acted like it was their first day. I took a bite or two out of each donut and threw the rest away.

Yelp
Randy's Donut's obviously they've been around forever in the Los Angeles area and now here in San Diego! I've been to a few "specialty" shops here, but none LOL have really blown my skirt up and so I went there with a little skepticism. All the raised type of donuts had great texture, light, fluffy and chewy. The selection was good, I wouldn't compare it to the more exotic donuts like at Voodoo, but for the quality and price it's way better than the Donut Bar!

Yelp
I consider a good donut one of life's simple pleasures. So I was looking forward to trying Randy's Donuts. Unfortunately the reality did not live up to the hype. We arrived at about 10:45 on a Saturday. The store was not busy and there was ample parking. The glass display case was well stocked with a good variety of donuts. They have all the basic donuts, and a good selection of specialty donuts. They have three tables inside if you want to eat there. We tried four donuts: Chocolate cake - the donut was dry and the frosting flaked off. Buttermilk old fashion - ok. Heavy but not bad. Glazed- the donut was tough and chewy. Bear claw - looked good. The dough again was tough. The filling had too much cinnamon. You could feel the ground cinnamon and your tongue. I see no reason to return to Randy's Donuts. It's no better than your neighborhood donut shop.
