Growing up here in Frisco, and being a local now, I had been wanting to visit Randy's and had the privilege last night. We had dinner here to celebrate the New Year and had a wonderful experience.
The hostess and waitress were both very nice and welcoming. We were sat in one of the larger rooms towards the back, which was great at least while it was empty. Throughout the evening it filled up and became pretty loud. I'm not sure if it was the acoustics or other diners, but we found it difficult to hear each other at certain times. I recommend asking to be seated in one of the quieter, smaller rooms if this is a concern for you. That is our plan for next time.
In regards to our dining experience itself, it began with the bread. This bread was one of my favorite appetizer breads I have ever had! It is extremely fluffy, sweet and paired beautifully with garlic butter on the side. We loved it! After the bread, we split Randy's Caesar Salad. We both enjoyed it, it was a classic take on a typical caesar salad and was topped with tasty croutons discs.
For our appetizers, we ordered the Panko Crusted Brie and the catch of the day, the Coconut Shrimp. The brie was presented along with thick toasts, garlic cloves, meant to be spread as a paste on the toasts, red grapes and the panko crusted brie itself. I am a huge fan of brie and I thought this one was good! The garlic and grapes made it a great appetizer overall. The coconut shrimp was also pretty good and is actually on the menu all the time, which was great to know!
For our entrees, we ordered the Bone-In Rib Eye Steak and Rib Eye Steak, both medium rare. The presentation of the bone was amazing and both steaks were equally as delicious. They were a little more rare than I would have liked but I had cut into it too much to be sent back. I still throughly enjoyed the flavor, texture and experience of both. We also ordered the Béarnaise and Bordelaise Sauces to go with our steaks. I loved the Béarnaise Sauce and it compares nicely compared to other béarnaise I have had around restaurants in the area. The bordelaise was not my particular favorite, but if you are a red wine fan, I think you will love it.
For our side, we only ordered the Garlic Mashed Potatoes. These were another of my favorite parts of the meal. They were creamy, whipped and absolutely delicious! Also, to note, the sides are large and meant to be shared between a couple of people. It split perfectly between us two.
Lastly, for dessert, we ordered the Key Lime Pie and Randy's Famous Bread Pudding. The bread pudding was so good! It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and green apples to the side. It was definitely our favorite of the two desserts. The pie was okay, it was not as strong in lime flavor as we expected. It was still good but seemed more like a plain cheesecake with lime syrup on top.
Ultimately, we had a great night here at Randy's. We were so happy to finally visit and next time will request a quieter room and try a couple of the other dishes too. The highlight of our night was getting to meet Randy himself! He came through during our dinner to greet the guests and it was so great to get to meet the man himself! Thank you for a great night and experience!
