The 10 Best BBQ Spots In Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Right across the street from Jack’s BBQ in Sodo is Raney’s Bar & Grill—yet another BBQ spot. And while that may seem repetitive, they are two very different restaurants. This small bar with a profound lack of tourists has plenty of bottles of Jameson beyond the bar, sports playing on the TV, and a concise menu of four meats in different forms—sandwiches, burgers, plates, and a la carte. The pulled pork sandwich is particularly tasty. It’s light on the sauce, and topped with grilled onions, tart cabbage slaw, and sliced white cheddar that adds a nice salty pop, all smashed on sturdy ciabatta. A side of peppery mac salad ties it all together." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Google
I was craving some good wings and I found them! The wings are brined, smoked and fried which gave them the perfect texture. They reminded me of a turkey leg you get at a fair but instead they were wings. The only down side is the sauce. I wish they had a spicer option or something more flavorful. Still, a solid wing option. Their Brisket Salad Melt was also really tasty with some awesome fries that were crispy and not all soft and soggy. My only complaint with the melt is I wish it had more meat. The quantity of meat left more to be desired. Stuff that sandwich and it would be perfect! Bartender was awesome, attentive and helpful. I would definitely go again but next time I’ll take my own wing sauce lol.

Love this place! Come here for lunch quite often. Pick any item on the menu and I will bet your bottom dollar you will love it. The bbq is awesome I love fries! The wings are amazing too with the wasabi honey mustard! Came here for lunch the last 3 days.... just saying! Raneys! Always a pleasure!

Google
This is a neat bbq place in Seattle. The brisket and pork were amazing; the chicken could have used more flavor but really you want to go for the brisket and the pork. Their ribs are only on the weekend which was sad since I was really looking forward to trying their ribs. It was pretty empty on a weekday night but based on the food and reviews, looks like a busy joint on the weekend! Wouldn't hesitate to drop by if I am in the area! Great service!

Google
The waiter said it was “Amazing” and he didn’t lie. The Beefy Dude is quite a sandwich. Filling and delicious. The beans were also quite good. They have a pretty sweet taste that may not be to everyone’s liking, but I really enjoyed them. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice for a small BBQ sports bar. They have a single genderless restroom that may get packed during rush hour, but we had no issues during the lunch hour. I will definitely be back to try some more.

Google
First rate experience for a good, neighborly Seahawks, Mariners, or Sounders game. The BBQ wings were a delectable mix of sweet and spicy. Can't wait to dig into their ribs and everything else they have to offer on my next visit!! Go Hawks!!

Ken G.

Google
Clean cozy place in the industrial zone. Good selection of sports events on 3 TV screens. Decent selection of lunch items. Friendly and helpful staff. Recommend the Chop Chop Salad. Huge salad that fills you up even more than a hamburger.

Macy M

Google
Wings were good, other reviews definitely play it up. Staff is friendly, food comes out really quickly. I'd describe it as "your father's sports bar"

Jon S.

Google
Best smoked brisket it is the closest you can get to perfection. If I'm not getting the brisket, I go with the chicken salad melt which it's amazing! This is the best BBQ in Seattle!!!! I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I thought I really found an uncovered gem here, but this place was the definition of disappointment. I am really starting to learn that places that serve hard alcohol tend to have inflated reviews, because the customers are buzzed or blitzed as patrons, so their take on the cuisine is skewed. When I saw this place was directly across the street from Jacks, I really thought they had to be special. Personally, I think Jacks is terrible, but they have a base. They also are expanding, so with this being Raney's only location, I was confident that I was about to have my life changed. I ordered the Park Taco and Fried Chicken Wings. Out of the gate, I regretted my stop. That wasn't a taco. It was pulled pork with BBQ sauce in a tortilla. I was really turned off, because I had just told the server, I don't like sauce when he asked what sauce I wanted for my wings. I guess he didn't think to warn me, The server strongly recommended the wings, he said they were brined, smoked, then fried. Sorry, when you say fried chicken, I'm thinking breaded fried, not naked fried. Not only that, when you say brine, I'm thing salty, full of flavor. Although I wouldn't call the chicken bland, it wasn't flavorful. I didn't finish anything I was served and when the server asked how everything was, I told him, not as expected. A responsible server, owner or manager would have offered to comp something or substitute another item. That said, these guys just opted for a bad review. The irony is there was a BBQ place in Renton that hired a Mexican cook and he created a sub menu and it was tacos, nachos and quesadillas with the restaurants smoked meats and it was the best Mexican food in town without a doubt. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't last long. They had been around for years before I tried them and I think the Mexican food was a last ditch effort to attract business, but it was too late. I had hoped to find that here, but this was watered down BBQ served as sudo ethnic food. All in, reviews are stellar, so clearly most people like the food, but it was about the worst excuse I've had for two classic snacks, Chicken Wings and Tacos.

Yelp
Was just here today for lunch. I had the St Louis Style rib combo with the spicy sauce which is the middle sauce as far as "hot" goes. AJ the bartender explained everything to me so I could make a solid menu decision since it was my first time here. This is a cool little spot with a bar and TV's and more than anything else, great BBQ. Great family run type of vibe. And despite a major BBQ competitor existing across the street, Raney's had every table full. Will definitely come back here and by the way the ribs were outstanding.

Yelp
Cole slaw sucks KFC does better burger is mediocre at best the only reason I went there to begin with it is the ups restaurant like a truck stop for mailmen

Ashley O.

Yelp
Best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had!!!!! Barbecue sauce is delicious!!! Great portion too!
google avatar

Julian G.

Yelp
I keep forgetting how amazing these wings are. Also they learned quite a bit since my last review, to the point that the only thing that still applies is how godlike the wings are. This is a small hidden sports bar that knows its bbq. And I will say - THE BEST smoked wings in the city. And tip 5 over all.

Yelp
Seems like it'd be a great local bar/restaurant, but as a traveler who just went to Jack's BBQ across the street a week prior, this place didn't stand out to me too much. I got the 1/3 Brisket with a side of fries and salad for an extra 4$. Brisket was thick and tender- huge pluses, but was a bit dry (especially compared to jack's). The fries were comparable to McDonald's in texture and flavor (aka: not great), and you only get to choose 1 sauce (spicy, hot hot, or sweet) and it's extra 1$ for more.

Dee D.

Yelp
Food is good but was better before COVID also prices went up and quality has went down.

Rio W.

Yelp
Food is good. Portions are smallish, does make me want to try the place across the street next time. What's in the photo? $129.00

Yelp
Ok - I was stopping at another place across the street but their parking lot was full. Saw Raney's, looked at Yelp, and came here. Glad I did for something new. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa - I mean, yes this is a bar - but some of the best chow I've had was bar grub. Based on some other reviews I decided to try 3 items - 1/4 rack of ribs, a 1 pound of wings with Cajun sauce, and a cup of their brisket with chili, sour cream & onion. The wings were spot on - brined, smoked and lightly fried they had a nice crispy touch with a hint of smoke and paired with the Cajun sauce made them my favorite. The ribs, with a medium BBQ sauce tied with the chili as I liked them both. An "outsider" but the service was great

Yelp
Raney's Bar & Grill is a hidden gem in the Industrial District. This cozy little place has really great food and excellent customer service. I highly recommend this spot. I ordered a BBQ sandwich with beef brisket (the other options are pulled pork or smoked chicken). The sandwich comes with 1/3 pound of meat, grilled onions, cheese, and red cabbage slaw on an artisan roll. It is served with your choice of seasoned fries, mac salad, potato salad, or slaw. My sandwich was delicious. The meat was really tender and it was cut like a piece of steak (not shredded), which was interesting. The owners of this place also own the Raney Brothers BBQ food truck which you may have seen in Downtown Seattle. They definitely have a lot of experience doing barbecue! The interior of the restaurant is pretty small. It is basically one room with a large raised bar and a few separate tables. There is only one bathroom. When we were there, the bartender A.J. was taking care of everyone. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and he did a great job of walking over to our table to check on us. I overheard him talking to some other customers and he knew everyone's name! He also seemed to take great pride in his place of employment, which was really cool.

Yelp
Stopped by today for lunch. Brisket plate with sides. Small portions, dry brisket, over-priced. Next time I'll go across the street...

Yelp
This place has a few regulars, of which I was not one. However, I was treated like one. The service was prompt and very straightforward when it came to recommending food and drinks. I'm not a huge fan of BBQ and have avoided this place despite the high ratings since they smoke their meats, which I'm not a huge fan of. The server explained that they use cherrywood and applewood which is more mild than hickory. He was right. The ribs were great! They're only available a few days a week though, so I can't comment on other food items. My first visit was during COVID and I was very impressed by how thoroughly they cleaned after every customer. Not only did they clean the primary surfaces, but they also cleaned every rung of the barstools - I'm talking about the ones you rest your feet on or don't even touch since they're so out of the way.! Come here for the BBQ and stay for the peace of mind knowing they don't cut corners when it comes to your health!

Yelp
I'm feeling very happy! Loving this red cabbage slaw and the macaroni salad is perfect. The brisket is falling apart tender. I got the spicy BBQ sauce. Yum

Yelp
My friends are getting married next year and they wanted to have BBQ food for their wedding. So naturally we had to go try the food :D Important thing to mention is that it's a bar so it's 21+ only. No kids allowed. The groom really loves this place so we went here and tried almost all of the meats and a few other items. We got a 1/2 lb each of chicken, brisket, and pulled pork. We also ordered some fries, a sandwich, and some wings as well. There were 3 sauces: the sweet BBQ, spicy and the spicy spicy. You had to pay for the sauces, I think it was like 0.75 cents each. Out of everything, I loved the brisket the most! Not that I didn't like the other meats but the brisket was super duper tender! The fries were seasoned nicely and crispy. The chicken was also juicy! I think my least favorite were the wings, maybe it was the sauce we got but I didn't care for the wings. If a BBQ place does not have a good sweet BBQ sauce then you know they are doing something wrong. I am happy to say that this place had a super delicious sweet BBQ sauce! To sum everything up, we were happy and our bellies were happy!

Yelp
OMG - the smoked wings!! Every since our first order, we now order by 2lb increments. They're so crispy, actually taste smoked, and the sauce choices are tasty. My favorite is the cajun dipping sauce as it has a little kick to it and adds a ton of flavor. The other items are the menu are good as well, like brisket and ribs. The meat is juicy and doesn't rely too heavily on sauces. The sides are the only things that are meh. It also seems like you get a little less when you order takeout. Service has always been super friendly. Just be warned you may have to call a few times before getting through if you're ordering takeout. Overall, a great place for BBQ but especially for those damn smoked chicken wings!

Yelp
First time impression was amazing! Luckily caught the St Louis style ribs offered only Thursdays /Fridays. Fall off the bone, flavorful, and smoky. Cabbage slaw was eh, smoked beans and Mac salad were pretty good. All made in house. Service was on point - welcoming, friendly, prompt, informative (when asked), and attentive. BBQ comparison: ribs are definitely better than Jack's BBQ across the street. Comparable to Woodshop (smokier here). Meaty Johnson's is still king of brisket imho. Significant other has had smoked wings prior and raves that everything tried has been bomb.

Yelp
Came and loved the brisket and fries! Delicious! They were out of ribs, but now I have an excuse to come back and try. Very tasty and worth the stop. Great, friendly staff and fast service.

Yelp
Wow, by blind luck I stumbled into this amazing delicious establishment. Thanks for having a parking lot with open stalls cause you now have a food fan for life.. Wow, this sublime place places a huge smile on my face. Reviewing the menu I found so many options I desired to sink my teeth into I couldn't decide for 15 minutes. The moment of truth finally came and I placed my order with the gentleman. Meatloaf sandwich is like mom made I tell you no lies. Very flavorful and the bread just added the extra to make it super tasty. Plus order the Smoked chicken wings, OMG is how I describe them. No sauce just all wings and that smoke layered through them I savored to the last bite. I don't expect I'll ever order sauce with them yet you have a few choices of you want them. On Wednesdays after 4PM its $1 jumbo wing night , so it's a total deal. Oh and one more thing, the smoked ribs are sensational and you don't need sauce, I love them with all my heart. The bar portion of the place looks really fun to sit and cocktail in the evening. Maybe I'll have a dinner and cocktail night in the very near future. The industrial area has one hell of a new place to dine & drink. I think you'll love it , I know I did.

Zachary T.

Yelp
Coworker of mine wanted to get this for takeout during our lunchbreak. We both ordered the brisket and salad sandwich. The meat was high quality and the sandwich was delicious. Unfortunately, the prices are too steep. My coworker came back and said that the sandwich and fries were gonna cost me $21.00. I thought that was too much for what I was getting.
google avatar

Raphael H.

Yelp
Great food and service. The BBQ ribs available only on Thursdays and Fridays are delicious on their own, without any additional sauces.

Paul W.

Yelp
Tried it for the first time today, it's near work and close enough to get to and from, and eat, in an hour. Service was prompt, friendly, and great. Food was very good, hot, fresh, and flavorful. Lots of options, went with a Chicken Sandwich. Was very good, bacon cooked through, cheese melty and appropriate amount for the size of the sandwich. Fair prices, nice environment for a local bar / grill style place. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
$30 for two orders of mediocre BBQ and a very meager portion. Baked beans with a hint of meat Very disappointing!

Jordan H.

Yelp
OMG such an adorable little place. Perfect vibe for small town In a big city. I got the cascade burger which was AMAZING! Came on an artisan roll as do all of their burgers. Bartender/server was so friendly and helped me find the perfect beer to make my day just a little bit better. 10/10 would recommend
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
Hey man, today's visit just wasn't up to par. Besides someone dropping the salt shaker in the fries, my Italian Sausage Grinder was just...ok. I wanted to try something different this visit instead of those delicious gut bomb burgers. I order the sausage and obviously it is cooked already (smoked) but the thing is barely warm. It was still good but could've/should've been much better. Still love you though. Mwahhhh
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
I Had planned on going to Jack's across the street, but didn't know they were closed for an event. I then Opened my handy Yelp app to find this place with five stars across the street. I walked in, sat at the bar, and ordered a diet coke. I then ordered the brisket plate with beans and fries. And that's where I went wrong. They brought me a plate with beans and fries... and a couple of small chunks of brisket. One of those chunks was mostly fat. Was not offered nor did I receive a refill on my $2.50 diet coke. The fries were mediocre, the hot sauce described to me as a 8/10 heat-wise was not hot, and the beans were average. This is basically the worst lunch I've had in a very long time. I won't be returning. Ever. I'm sad that Yelp let me down so badly on this one. I stopped somewhere else and got a snack and some more soda on the way back to work.

Yelp
Found a random menu at work to Raney's on Airport Way so we decided to give it try since the place is so close to us. Restaurant used to be the old pizza parlor that received new paint, decor and a full bar. It's right across the street from Jack's BBQ so it's quite the slap in the face but hey, competition is a good thing I guess. Also, Raney's is a BAR so no minors! We came during the lunch rush and it was packed and busy. They've been open for 5 weeks and it looks like business is good. They have a gravel parking lot next to the place plus parking along Airport Way S. Ample parking is always a plus! Their menu is pretty basic. You have your brisket, pulled pork and chicken. Nothing fancy here and I like it that way. We all opted for their beef brisket; The Dude, Brisket Melt and their basic sandwich. Beers arrived quickly followed by food. I love their brisket! Perfectly smoked with the right amount of fatty tenderness. Love how the slices are THICK. Raney's does not drown your meat in BBQ sauce neither although my co-worker who ordered the The Melt felt there was too much mayo. Overall we had a pleasant experience and will be back again for lunch soon.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
BBQ is becoming a thing in Seattle, and Raney's enters the fray with a quality line-up, differentiating themselves from the Texas-style joints that are springing up across town by offering juicy, quality meats treated with greater care, homemade sauces packing serious flavor and a decidedly Washingtonian fruitwood smoke-no imported hickory or mesquite here! Their gas-fire indirect process allows greater control of the smoking and very even cooking. The smoke ring on the brisket is to DIE for, leaving the meat with plenty of succulent fat, and the pulled pork is unctuous and rich without being over-smoked, ashy or too "barky" (too many dry outer crust bits). Superior. Would love to see more creative menu items featuring local seasonal produce (smoked beets? Maybe smoked bacon-wrapped blue cheese-filled peaches? ) and it would be interesting to see their take on game meats, like elk, venison, or pheasant... Raney's blows the competition across the street, and most places around town, completely out of the water. The service is friendly and neighborly, the store is squeaky clean and the environment is fun. Don't miss this 'Q! Highly recommended, and a serious contender for best Seattle 'Q!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch the other day with a co-worker. We split the smoked wings for an appetizer after hearing everyone else rave about them and I tried the pulled pork sandwich. We got the Cajun sauce to go with the wings (comes served on the side). The wings were really good. Smoked to give them a nice flavor and then fried to give them a crunch. They didn't need the sauce! The sauce was nice and spicy without being excessively hot. The pulled pork on my sandwich was tender and juicy. It came on a ciabatta roll, which was nice as it held up better when containing cole slaw and the sauced meat than a hamburger bun would. The service was fast and friendly. We got there shortly after they opened and there was a lot of seating, but it got pretty busy shortly after. Definitely a place I will be going back to!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Might be my second review but I can't stress enough how under appreciated this place is. Personable staff, great happy hour, and BBQ Creations. Majority of BBQ places throw meat on a bun with cheese and call it a sandwich... not Raney's. One of my favorite lunch spots, haven't gone wrong with anything on their menu yet!
google avatar

Gregory A.

Yelp
Exemplary service, Fantastic sandwich. What else can you say other than feels like home for Texan.

Tom G.

Yelp
Just finished lunch at Raney's on Airport Way S! Wow, these folks know BBQ and have a great selection of local beers on tap! What's better than a great beer, a pulled pork sandwich with an ice cold draft beer, fries and slaw! Sweet! Although I ordered the pork 'hot.' Best of all was the server, AJ, he's the best! Try this place out, you'll love it! Trust me!

Yelp
I luv when Yelp get's it right.... I always NEEDS me some REALLY good BBQ.... now granted I haven't been to Texas or either of the Carolina's but dang it, I think I know when I have some really good Que! Trust me I was teething on a BBQ pork rib bone at an early age... Guess what.... here, well.... you really can't go wrong... well unless you are Vegan, you poor bastard.... Start with the wings.... OH-MY-DROOLING-GOD.... these are worth walking over broken glass for! They smoke them first, then they fry them up, served with your choice of homemade sauce, on the side for dipping. I'm glad they serve it that way, nothing worse than good meat covered in a messy sickening sweet goo... Here it's all good, you can really enjoy their smoking efforts and the handling of the chicken. Sadly they only offer the wings in 1lb orders, they really need a 10lb bucket size.... just my opinion. I opted for the pulled pork sandwich, it's served with their homemade horseradish slaw on top. NOW, BEFORE, you go running away, this stuff is manna from the coleslaw Gods... the new ones and the old... It's just dreamy... A nice hit of horseradish, nothing to make your eyes water, and the slaw must be made up daily or fresh as it wasn't soggy or runny, the dressing just covered the purple cabbage up nicely. And OMG.... the pork.... Sweet baby mama it was so good. Not dried out, not a chopped up mushy mess. Pulled and bits of the outside bark, that was just so OMG good. You pick your sauce, which is added on afterwards, they don't drown it, you can taste everything in the sandwich, and the ciabatta bread was a great touch, it holds up nicely. Nice venue, 21+ only, it's a full service bar, sorry you youngsters.... you'll have to wait, but boy-howdy is it worth it!!

Yelp
I have driven by this place a few times as they were remodeling. When I saw they had opened we stopped by for Happy Hour last week, and what great surprise. Great design on the inside, very nice feel to the place when you walk in. We decided to try the combo, so we could have little of everything. All were done to perfection, nice size portions, and the sides were tasty also. Don't forget the fries! Nice selection beers on tap, plus a good liquor selection make this a great choice for a adult night out.( the place is 21+)

Yelp
This is the best BBQ restaurant in Seattle. The owners " Raney" himself greet you and make sure everything is fine . Employees very friendly. The FOOD soooo delicious. Be sure to try 3 things :1- chicken wings 2- ribs 3-beef brisket . Trust me you wont regret it . But one thing you must know the Ribs get sold out pretty fast , and its just offered Thursday and Friday. Thanks guys

Yelp
We came here on a whim, because we were indecisive about what to eat. This place has parking which is ALWAYS a plus, and great service. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable when it came to the menu. We saw a sign for smoked chicken wings and ordered it, that sweet bbq sauce is a MUST! Menu mostly features BBQ on bread, like sandwich or melt. I ordered the Beefy Dude, BBQ Brisket and "not your mother's meatloaf" and it was amazing! The onions were perfectly caramelized and the cabbage slaw was not to over powering and complimented the other ingredients perfectly. I also got to try their Cascade Burger too! but I liked the Beefy Dude more. I had mine with seasoned fries which were really tasty as well. This place is 21+ only, with great service and lots of beer choices too. We will be back to try more of the menu!

Yelp
Great little bar and grill right off Airport Way. We got the smoked chicken wings and my girl got the Beefy Dude (brisket and meatloaf) while I got the Cascade Burger which had pulled pork on the beef patty. Great service and the sandwiches and burgers are amongst the best I've ever had. This is a great new spot!

Yelp
The brisket was so delicious!!!! It was so moist and the smoke isn't over powering. The man working the front was awesome! Super friendly and chill. Will def be coming back

Yelp
First time in Seattle and we were looking for a BBQ place and this was exactly what my friend and I had in mind. A clean, blue collar atmosphere with great food and great service. The food came out very fast and we did not have to ask for refills, or our check, they were there before we even had to ask. The food was very good and fairly priced based on it's quality. The menu may have been a little limited but this place sticks to what they are good at and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Fantastic BBQ! I'm so thrilled with this little place. It is small and I don't believe you can take kids but it's worth it if you're in the area. The biggest surprise is that their sides are great too! I think they are even with Jack's (across the street) with BBQ flavor and quality. Raney's has better sides, hands down! There's just no comparison.

Yelp
The best spot in SODO for bbq!!! I'm from FL and bbq gets highly critiqued by my taste buds. I love the brisket and pulled pork! Yum!! I also enjoy the outdoor area near the garden with the very cute yellow pup that sits on the other side of the fence

Yelp
Brought a bunch of out-of-towners here on a whim. Service was fantastic as the patient waiter rearranged the place to fit 10 of us. Everyone LOVED their sandwiches and joked about how hearty they were (that they were getting a work out by lifting them). We even got to try some of their fries for free and they were fabulous but I did enjoy the other sides as well. Reasonably priced + good beer selection. There is parking on the side of the building.

Yelp
Like good food? Like good service? Then look no freaking further. Met my wife here after work. She needed a place to hang and wait for me to get off. They had Manny's so why not try it out. I'm picky when it comes to food. We first went on Monday. Then Tuesday...Wednesday... Thursday. Oh yeah and then again on Friday. The food is freaking epic!! Had "The Dude". It's a meatloaf sandwich with pulled pork on top. Yeah. I freaking said that. Tried the Olympic. 1/2 pound burger with brisket on top. Damn! They have amazing fries and I had them put their chili on top. Holy crap!! I'm in love with this place. We got ribs to go on Friday. Jesus those are amazing. Yum. Love. Yay!! I can't say enough how great this place is. And even the clientele is friendly as all hell. I want to live there. If you like BBQ and don't go here. Good, more for me. The end.

Yelp
Came here while waiting for our car to be fixed. So glad we did! Local beers on tap, delicious BBQ, and friendly staff. Paul was our server/bartender and he was kind and helpful when trying to figure out what to order. I tried the Olympic burger and the chicken wings. So good! I would recommend coming here, and I'll be back soon.

Yelp
Just found my favorite place for BBQ! Holy cow, the brisket was insane, the beans were perfection...get here now! Parking is free and a full bar.

Yelp
So this place is legit! Smoked wings are addictive! The wings are brined, smoked and then flashed fried to give a nice delicate crispy skin while maintaining a juicy interior. We also ordered the meatloaf brisket sandwich and it was heavenly delicious. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I love this place! One of the first places I discovered when I moved to Seattle. I now live on the other side of town and still make it a point to get some brisket here when I can. Great food, service, and and awesome team!
