Yelp
I thought I really found an uncovered gem here, but this place was the definition of disappointment. I am really starting to learn that places that serve hard alcohol tend to have inflated reviews, because the customers are buzzed or blitzed as patrons, so their take on the cuisine is skewed.
When I saw this place was directly across the street from Jacks, I really thought they had to be special. Personally, I think Jacks is terrible, but they have a base. They also are expanding, so with this being Raney's only location, I was confident that I was about to have my life changed. I ordered the Park Taco and Fried Chicken Wings.
Out of the gate, I regretted my stop. That wasn't a taco. It was pulled pork with BBQ sauce in a tortilla. I was really turned off, because I had just told the server, I don't like sauce when he asked what sauce I wanted for my wings. I guess he didn't think to warn me,
The server strongly recommended the wings, he said they were brined, smoked, then fried. Sorry, when you say fried chicken, I'm thinking breaded fried, not naked fried.
Not only that, when you say brine, I'm thing salty, full of flavor. Although I wouldn't call the chicken bland, it wasn't flavorful. I didn't finish anything I was served and when the server asked how everything was, I told him, not as expected. A responsible server, owner or manager would have offered to comp something or substitute another item. That said, these guys just opted for a bad review.
The irony is there was a BBQ place in Renton that hired a Mexican cook and he created a sub menu and it was tacos, nachos and quesadillas with the restaurants smoked meats and it was the best Mexican food in town without a doubt. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't last long. They had been around for years before I tried them and I think the Mexican food was a last ditch effort to attract business, but it was too late.
I had hoped to find that here, but this was watered down BBQ served as sudo ethnic food. All in, reviews are stellar, so clearly most people like the food, but it was about the worst excuse I've had for two classic snacks, Chicken Wings and Tacos.
