Rangzen Tibetan Place

Th restaurant is great and just a short walk from the Central Square T stop. It did not take long for us to place our order. The restaurant vibes are nice with a lot of mostly 2 to 4 person tables. We ordered more food than we needed for 4 people. The beef Shypta, stir fried egg noodles, eggplant potato, and of course the momo dumplings were great hits given their flavor and texture. The salads are very sweet. I would come back here with others who haven’t been.

What a wonderful ambiance! The space is very welcoming and homey atmosphere. And better yet, Rangzen Tibetan Place has some truly incredible Tibetan food! The dumplings were phenomenal and I highly recommend ordering them. There are also vegetarian options available. The shypta spicy beef was good, however, the portion size felt a little on the smaller end. And the mango lassi was great! Highly recommend Rangzen Tibetan Place!

Great food doesn't have to be complicated. The dishes here are simple and flavorful. The seasoning is light and impactful, not overpowering. Excellent Tibetan momos (dumplings) and fried rice offerings. There is a good variety to choose from for vegetarians. The tomato and mango salad is outstanding- take a bite and it's like flavor fireworks erupting in your mouth. It can really be an appetizer or a dessert. The service is quick and helpful.

So, we decided to visit this place while we were in Cambridge. The first time we went, it was closed, but we gave it another shot, and luckily, it was open. The food was not great, considering the prices. Food was decent but didn't live up to the high price tags. Everything seemed to be expensive, especially the momos. I was shocked when I saw they were priced at $19.95, and even the other momo options were above $15 for just a 8 pieces. The sauces served with the momos and rice were quite bland. The place was extremely cramped, too tight! Server was friendly and helpful, which was a positive aspect of the dining experience. Other than that, it was a letdown, and I'll not be returning anytime soon.

Dhiki’s restaurant Rangzen Tibetan Place is absolutely one of my favorite places to visit. I usually get a lamb entree, momos, and a mango lassi. Attentive service, calming atmosphere, and delicious, fulfilling food hard to find elsewhere. The sauces that come with the momos are incredibly flavorful.

I loved this place. It was a hole in the wall and a friend took me and another friend took me to this place again—that’s when I realized I should’ve been coming here on my own this whole time. The food is really good and the atmosphere is cozy and conversational. The vibe is casual so I’ve often seen people eating in big groups or people just come and get a loan to eat by themselves which I loved. It’s always nice to get a diverse range of people in a restaurant and to see that people are so comfortable enough with themselves to eat by themselves and not feel judged by the restaurant was great to see. The service is great and the food I can’t stop raving about the food. So good! Highly recommend!

Excellent traditional lunch experience. Ambience is really nice. Have ordered takeout before and decided to try dining in this time, was not disappointed at all. Will go back for the buffet sometime. The owner was super nice to talk to as well

Everytime I head to H Mart, I’m always passing by Rangzen Tibetan Place. This went on for about 2 years and finally I told myself, “Enough already. Let’s try some Tibetan food!” Restaurant Type: Casual Dining. My short summary sentence: Momo for the Millionaire Guru. I really wanted to like the place. I mean, they did a wonderful job with the exterior and the prayer flags hanging outside their veneer. The menu was nicely curated with a thoughtful intro on the first page. The ambiance and the wait staff were all too kind but when the food came, things started to go a little south. At $15.95 for 8 pieces of lamb momo, I expected complex flavors and textures. When I bit into it, all of it was absent. Don’t get me wrong, they were good but not at that price point I was anticipating much more. I would have felt quite differently at half the price which brings me to their lunch buffet. At $14.77 per person, this may address my price complaints and change my review. Perhaps, this is the experience reviewers rave about. For that reason this review remains to be finalized. Until then, 3.35/5 sounds just about right for dinner time.

Amazing food! Authentic unique flavors that you really can't find anywhere else in Boston. We ordered the stir fried rice noodles with veggies, Veggie momo with lentil soup, and the veggie curry stew with chickpeas and potatoes. The noodles were a bit heavy on oil but had a great savory mala flavor that was not overpoweringly spicy. The stew had a mild curry flavor but chickpeas and tomatoes also gave it a bit of earthiness and brightness. Amazing and would definitely order again! The momo was clearly homemade but one complaint was that the skin was very very thick. I would definitely have liked a higher filling to skin ratio. I'm sad they aren't open Sundays or Mondays, but that just means you gotta get in on the other days. :)

Came here on a Wednesday evening for an early dinner and we were seated quickly due to there being not too many parties, but the place definitely filled up as our meal continued so I'd try to get here early if you'd rather not wait! The space was small and had pretty dim lighting, but otherwise felt rather cozy. There was only one server throughout the duration of our meal which I didn't find to be very good staffing wise - it made it hard to flag him down to request water or even get the check. The food itself was tasty, but super overpriced for the portions. I was also excited to try the Tibetan tea, but it's definitely not for me - it literally tasted like straight butter. I couldn't finish it and had to get the Lassi to try to get some diversity and that was fine, albeit pretty light and almost watery. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back here for dinner. I'd be willing to try their lunch buffet, but a la carte, their dishes weren't worth it.

We got the Tingmo for an appetizer and I got the Tsel Chow for my meal. Both were phenomenal! I would especially recommend the Tingmo. Adding the spicier of the two sauces that came with it made it even better! We were seated right away and the service was fast too, so I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again.

After a failed attempt to come earlier this week (despite what Google says they're aren't open for lunch every day!), my friend and I stopped for a quick dinner on Friday. We started with an order of the tingmo to start - so delicious! The bread was fluffy and tasty in and of itself, and the accompanying curry was really delicious. I actually don't really like chickpeas but the curry made the whole bowl so yummy - definitely a strong rec. We also got an order of the langsha (beef) momos, which are like dumplings, and the pork with daikon (rice). Momos were pretty good, although really quite expensive for the portion size. The fillings were OK - decently fresh but not the most flavourful. The pork with daikon was also not bad - a bit oily, for sure, but the pork was generally juicy/tender and the daikon well-cooked (which is uncommon!). Overall, our meal was not bad - a bit pricey, but nothing too egregious. I think I'd like to come back again to try some of their other rice/noodle dishes, but in my opinion the dumplings are nothing too special.

This is such a hidden gem in the Central Sq area! I think mainly because it's a little further from the heart of Central along Mass Ave. This small, seemingly family-run business was a delight to find and I'm so glad we got to try a nice variety of their delicious food - the veggie tsel momos (definitely try all their sauces and ask to get half pan-fried and the other steamed if you want to get some more variety) and the lentil soup that it comes with, noodle soup, and langsha duluma (beef with eggplant). Every bite was so wholesome and flavorful - 10/10 would recommend!

I absolutely love this little restaurant right off of Mass Ave. Delicious food that is made with love. I recommend the momos (I get them pan fried), fried rice, and spicy chicken. The food is fresh and full of beautiful colors. As the opposite of a sweet tooth, I love that their dishes carry little to no sugar - I cannot taste any whatsoever which is refreshing in an Asian restaurant. The hot sauce is delicious and deadly. Spicy lovers must order this. Portions are a bit small for the prices but absolutely worth it for the high quality meal. One of my go-tos in Central Square.

Food I got: Chicken momos, Tingmo, Spinach Soup, and Gya Thuk with chicken Checked out Rangzen for the first time! Ive had Tibetan food before so I was excited for some good momos and flavor. The momos had a very thick skin. But i liked the sauce it came with. The tingmo came with chickpea curry that i really enjoyed! The Spinach soup was my favorite dish because ive never had anything like it before. It also had lots of flavor and great to pair it with the tingmo. The noodle soup had really good broth and big portions. I went on a freeezing day so the food cooled down too quickly for us to enjoy I think it would have been much better if the food were warm!

I went on a Friday night and had the opportunity to watch the place come alive as the dinner crowd trickled in. It's a very cozy atmosphere, especially with all of the warm color tones and dark wood. The service was attentive, and accommodated letting me have a momo sampler plate (because I was indecisive about which type to order) so I could try beef, chicken, lamb, and vegetable. Momos: The texture of the momo skin reminded me of the way my dad used to spend hours kneading and rolling out dough for dumplings. I appreciated the amount of effort I know it takes to make this dough and shape and fold. It made me nostalgic, especially in an era where most restaurants no longer make their own. The seasoning of the filling wasn't overpowered and you can taste the natural flavor of the herbs and ingredients. It was served with a orange hot sauce and a green hot sauce. To be honest, I wasn't sure what was in them, but I highly recommend dipping your momos in it because they were tasty. The spiciness was also quite mild. There was also a bowl of soup, I'm not sure what was in the soup I got since different momos come with different soups, but it was savory and warm. I think it might've been clear broth daikon soup.

Cozy diner for great comfort food with an Asian twist. Walked in on Friday evening 5:40 ish and the place was half full. The food arrived 30mins after we order (a little slow indeed), but overall they were worth the wait. I really enjoyed the spinach soup, it was rich with spinach flavors and some sort of pork bone broth, but it wasn't greasy and just warmed my stomach. The interior design felt exotic and private with a relatively dim light. If you crave for some simple yet comforting food for a rainy/snowy/windy day, why not try some Tibetan food?

Overall, Rangzen serves average tasting food at an above average price point. Their a la carte menu isn't worth it, but their lunch buffet might be a different story. // Tsel Momo ($14.25) - 4 stars 8 large vegetable dumplings filled with spinach, mushrooms, and tofu. The best part of this dish was definitely the lentil soup that came on the side. Boosted the rating up from a 3 to 4 stars. // Langsha Tsel Nezom ($15.95) - 3 stars Very similar to a Chinese-style beef pepper dish. The description on GrubHub said that it would be served with steamed buns, but they were nowhere to be found. // Chhasha Curry ($15.25) - 3 stars This chicken and potato curry dish tasted pretty average. I wish it had come with a wider variety of vegetables.

A quaint hole in the wall type of restaurant. It's super dark so I actually thought it was closed when I arrived The Spicy Pork dish with sauces I ordered was overwhelmingly oily without any vegetables to balance it so I personally would not order this again. I had tasted my friends tea drink and it was very tasty! Staff was overall very friendly and quick.

It's a very peaceful and relaxing restaurant with very delicious food. Portion sizes are very reasonable and the quality of the food is really great

Very vibey spot: soft music, low light, heavy Tibetan decor and interior design. The food itself was a bit underwhelming. Me and my friend both agreed the spicy chicken was much better than his beef dish. For the price I would have expected better, but it certainly wasn't bad. Hence 3/5: if you know you like Tibetan food this may be your best choice, otherwise it wouldn't be high on my list for central square options.

This place definitely is authentic. I went with two friends and we ordered veggie momos and a beef dish. It was my first time ordering momos and it was good, probably not something I'd order again or if I do I'd try the meat filled ones instead. The beef dish was delicious and flavorful, not spicy. Service was fast, not friendly but not mean. The place was decorated very nicely and the atmosphere was of a nice sit down place, warm, and great for catching up with friends or a celebration spot.

Never have had Tibetan food but was pleasantly surprised at my recent takeout here. Service was fast and friendly. Prices are average for Cambridge Asian food. *Tomato Mango Salad: Refreshing fruit and tomato salad flavored with lime and cilantro. It was a nice light contrast to the heavier entrees. Not sure I'd get it again though. * Beef & Eggplant: Highly reminiscent of a Tibetan version of the Chinese dish Twice Cooked Pork, in a good way. Super flavorful, tender eggplant, juicy beef, in a slightly spicy chili garlic sauce. Would definitely get again. This dish disappeared quickly. * Chicken curry: Needed some salt. Lots of potatoes, very filling, but not something I would get again. Both Entrees came with a big scoop of rice. Would try more menu items for sure!

I walked in alone during dinner, and this restaurant was mostly empty. I really liked the decorations and the staff was pretty friendly. You could really tell that this was probably a family business. Langsha Duluma ($15.75) - I'm a big fan of beef. I'm also a big fan of eggplants. This dish was pretty solid, had good presentation, and it was cooked well. On top of that, it felt fresh. The eggplant chunks were cooked perfectly and the beef was also pretty decent. I ordered this with brown rice, and the rice came out pretty ok. Not bad, but not exceptional. The tomatoes and onion really tied this dish together. Overall, nothing too fancy and revolutionary, but really solid in the taste department. However, I think the pricing is just a tiny bit too expensive for what it is, but the portions were big so I'll give it that. Overall, I liked it, I just thought the price could be lower.

There isn't any indoor or outdoor dining here, but there are plenty of green spaces/parks nearby for you to enjoy your meal to-go. You won't be paying under $10 for your meal, but the menu is one of a kind and the portion sizes will leave you satisfied! I tried their chhasha momo (chicken dumplings) for $15 which came with 8 momos, a hearty daikon soup, pickled daikon, soy sauce, mint sauce, and a red sauce. The momos definitely benefited from the sauces-- by themselves they were a bit bland and dry. I found a small bone in one of the momos. I probably should have taken other reviewers' advice and went with the vegetable momos. The soup was much more flavorful than what I expected for a clear soup. I also tried their thunlam tosoe appetizer combo for $11, which included potatoes, eggplant, broccoli, green beans, and tomatoes, all battered and fried. The batter is very tasty and accompanied the vegetables well. Unfortunately the vegetables steamed together in the takeout container for some time before I picked up the order, so they were a bit soggy and no longer crispy. I could imagine this appetizer tasting incredible when fresh from the fryer, since I still liked it a lot even though it was soggy. Their sha phaley ($6 for 4 pieces), which was like a whole wheat flatbread stuffed with ground beef, was my least favorite item that I tried. The beef was dry and crumbly and not very flavorful. The steamed tingmo bun ($5 for 2 rolls) was tasty and reminded me of Chinese scallion steamed rolls. There aren't many restaurants in the area which have a menu like Rangzen's. I recommend this place if you haven't had Tibetan food before!

Good but not great for the price. I wanted to try the chow chow noodles because I had heard such good things! The noodles were good but felt extremely heavy. Maybe it's oil but it was not a light meal and we shared one dish between two of us. We also had drinks and an app. The appetizer (Tsel Phaley) was great and unique. Haven't eaten anything like it! Noodles in a crepe with some awesome sauce on the side. Highly recommend. The entree was about $16 and the app was $6. The entree was way overpriced but the app was great and I'd eat it again. I expected to want to come back but I definitely won't be dropping by. I'd recommend coming in a group to try different dishes but from our experience there are way better options out there!

Place is small and no one answers the phone, but the food is awesome! We had momo (lamb and chicken), the spicy chicken, and the eggplant with potatoes. Everything was excellent. Would definitely return!

Came here for the lunch buffet with two friends on a Friday around 11:30AM, which is when the place opens. For a rainy day, the place was relatively quiet and then quickly became packed with customers!! Since it was our first time, I'm not sure if the menu for the buffet changes every so often but the line of food offered was impressive and quite a delicious quality selection! You grab a plate, next to which you'll also find the hot green tea and milk tea offered ready with raw cane sugar and lemon slices to add according to your taste. There was also a hot lentil soup (they later brought out a tomato basil soup that I didn't get to try). They arrange a number of cold salads on the left hand side, which included a cabbage slaw, chickpea kale salad, a pickled "kimchi-like" side dish (maybe to go along with the veggie momos?), a spicy chili oil- bitter melon side dish, and more. I got to try a little bit of everything and they were all very fresh and considerately made! Hot items included curry chicken, basmati rice, potato + cauliflower curry, chicken + mushroom, double-cooked pork with a braised chayote, veggie momos, steamed tofu + napa cappage, and a lo-main noodle-like item with peanut sauce. All were really delicious and appropriately seasoned (not salty or really greasy like how most awful Chinese buffets can be). I've never had Tibetan food before and this was a nice, inoffensive introduction. Finally, you had the option of eating freshly-cut fruits for dessert. Overall, an excellent spread of choices that allow meat-eaters and vegetarians to find tasty and suitable options! The bill came out to a little under $16 per person which I think is definitely reasonable since I came out of there STUFFED! Of note, the wait staff were VERY attentive to our tables, cleaning plates and refilling our cups of water frequently and kindly (totally non-intrusive or bothersome)! It was an awesome dining experience.

Came for dinner with a friend. Really lovely decorations and ambience inside! We got the Chicken Momos and Chura Khatsa (Tofu with Green Beans). Both were good but could have been more flavorful, and I liked the dipping sauces as well (the mint-tomato mild sauce and the jalapeno-cilantro hot sauce). I didn't feel the dishes were special enough to justify the prices though ($15.50 for 8 momos, $14.95 for the Chura Khatsa). I do think I would come back again to try more of the interesting sounding dishes on the menu!

Oh myyyy god the lunch buffet is to die for. Great variety of hot food, salad-y greens and veggies, fruit, lentil soup, and hot tea. Didn't see any other dessert dishes though? Come early to get a spot for lunch. We arrived at 11:30 when it opened which was a fantastic idea. Let me repeat again: the food is amazing. Wish the buffet island was a little more accessible but oh well didn't really detract from the experience. I will say I came here another time a couple years ago where I ordered a meatball soup dish for dinner and was underwhelmed. But the lunch buffet is great!

A cozy spot with plenty of tables, it's easy to imagine the restaurant bustling during non-covid times. a friend and I picked up some beef momos and they were great, though pricey for eight pieces. However, they came with a soup and some awesome dipping sauces. would love to try their buffet when it's safe to do so.

Such a hidden gem of Boston. We stop by every once in a while for the buffet lunch and have always loved their flavorful dishes, but this time was really unique. The most intriguing was a pork belly/mustard green dish in some pungent fish sauce, which we loved, and we also appreciated the okra! Dishes are typically very unique, with an array of breads (momos, fried bread, and a thin bouncy bread) which soak up the flavorful sauces. A lot of healthy veggie-focused options too. Love to finish the meal with some hot chai. Really solid quality with distinctive flavors and the buffet makes it an unbelievable value. Attentive, friendly service but they give you your space too. A go-to place!

Momo dumplings (both lamb and chicken) were delicious. I preferred the lamb dumplings, while my sister preferred the chicken, but both were really good nonetheless! Sha phaley was ok -- Yelp reviews compared it to Chinese scallion pancakes (which I love), but they were nothing alike... Langsha Tsel Nezom (beef dish) was good; it tasted quite similar to Chinese beef pepper dishes I've had in the past, so I wasn't blown away by this dish or anything. However, what I am SO sad about this dish is that it did NOT come with steamed buns!!!!! I had ordered takeout and *completely* forgot about the steamed buns until the next day when I was reviewing the menu to make this review (lol). Those steamed buns were the primary reason why I decided to get the beef dish in the first place! D: Unfortunately had to dock 1 star because of the missing steamed buns. I was that sad...

This is a really nice spot with a great lunch buffet with many vegetarian options of Tibetan food. I think it's a little over priced, if you compare it to Indian buffets (both have vegetarian and chicken options). Also, as someone who traveled in Tibet and the Tibetan villages in India, I missed the dumplings (momo)... maybe they could add those to their buffet too?

Reasonably priced and tasty! This is in the building that used to house Baraka Cafe and they have expanded the space and spruced it up. It was relatively quiet and easy to get a table on Monday night. We ordered the Sha Phaley (what's not to love about bread wrapped around noodles), the lamb momo (this is a LARGE plate and comes with a tasty broth soup) and the bok choy (perfectly cooked -crisp not soggy -and garlicky). This place is really all about the sauce. The green and red sauces that came with the bread were delicious (we covered the momo in them) and PLEASE ORDER THE HOT SAUCE with your momo if you like spice as much as I do. So delicious.

I've always walked by this place on my way to the local Micro Center and I've always been intrigued by the colorful flags that decorate the outside. Finally, my friends and I visited for a meal one Friday night and I wasn't disappointed at all. The inside was furnished beautifully with fascinating banners, trinkets, and more, all of which I assume represent different aspects of Tibetan culture. The food was good as well. I heard from my friends that momos are popular in Tibetan cuisine, but they were quite average dumplings, only to be made better with some sort of sauces and pickled onions. The Phingsha and Chhasha Shamo were both much better tasting than I thought they would be, since they looked pretty average. I'm unsure if these are authentic dishes, but if they are then I'm excited to try more Tibetan food.

I was really excited to dine here and try Tibetan food for the first time, but I was sorely disappointed by the food here. My friends and I ordered the lamb momos (dumplings), eggplant, and sha phaley (beef wrapped in Asian pancake). All of the food was fairly bland without much flavor. They gave us some sauces to go along with it, but they tasted like different salsas and felt weird along with the Asian style food. I also tried the Tibetan tea which has butter in the tea, it was interesting though nothing I would order again. Overall a fairly mediocre food experience though their service is very nice. I will not likely be back again

This place is sooo good! Have come many times in the past in person when heading to nearby concerts in Cambridge. Unique cuisine you don't see very often, great spice. We love the potato pancakes and the hot chicken dish with peppers. Friendly staff, and still delicious for take out during Covid. Support this local gem

This restaurant is tucked away in a small road but still very close from the main road. We came here on Saturday for their brunch buffet which had a variety of Tibetan food which is similar to Chinese and Indian choose but a bit spicy. They had a variety of meat and vegetable dishes which were all tasty! We paid about $16 not including tips per person. Green tea and milk tea was also part of the buffet. Great place for vegetarians and non-vegetarians!

I really wanted to like this place but I was pretty disappointed by the food I got, especially at the price point (being close to $20 for some of the entrees). I got the chicken (chhasha solo) which was yummy, eggplant (tsel duluma) pretty bland, and momo which were okay (bland on its own but with the vinegar decent). Their service at least seemed fast for pickup. However ended up only really liking 1 out of the three dishes and was more pricey than other restaurants located nearby.

Average food, but extremely pleasant service and casual atmosphere. Would not go out of the way to go to this place, but a decent option if you live in the Central area. Went for dinner on a Thursday evening around 8 PM with a group of 5. The restaurant was probably about half full, and we were seated immediately at a round table in a cozy corner. They have many vegetarian options on the menu, but I feel like those options aren't as flavorful as some of their beef dishes. I was sticking to vegetarian options that night and ordered the Tsel Phaley and the vegetarian momos. The Tsel Phaley was very interesting. It was basically vegetables and noodles rolled into a spongey-wrap (could almost equate it to an uthappam for anyone familiar with South Indian cuisine). I liked it, but it was pretty oily. This dish is definitely on the smaller side, more of an appetizer. The vegetarian momos were pretty bland. Luckily, they had given us a few sauces and pickled vegetables which we were able to use to add a little more flavor. Would avoid getting these again. Other folks got the Sha Phaley (bread stuffed with beef), beef momos, and eggplant, which were all acceptable. We also ordered one Tibetan tea, since some people had never tried it before. It came in a really adorable mug and was a lot less buttery than other Tibetan teas I have had, which I appreciated. Our waitress and servers were incredibly friendly. They were very accommodating when we asked if we could cut a cake we had brought to the restaurant separately. Also, we were all having such a nice time catching up that we ended up staying until closing (10 PM) and they never rushed us out or made it seem like we were inconveniencing them. Overall, was expecting more from the food but not a bad option for a casual meal with friends.

I'm writing this review from the perspective of an Indian. Indian food is generally savory and spicy. The food here seemed very similar to Indian food but without spice and less salt. It's for this reason my review is slightly biased but also serves helpful to other people who eat Indian food regularly. We ordered the Shogo Paley (wheat bread stuffed with potatoes and ginger) as an appetizer. The bread was very yummy and so was the spicy sauce (which was not spicy but a great combo with the bread) that came with it. We also ordered sweet milk tea which tasted just like chai and sweet lassi. Both drinks were excellent. For our main courses we ordered the chicken momos and the Tsel Duluma (eggplant curry with potatoes and spices). The momos were good but nothing mind blowing like the other reviews for this restaurant had suggested and the curry was bland. The entree items here are pretty pricey for what you are getting. If we ever do come back here, it would just be for tea and apps or for lunch buffet.

Oh heyyyy there, you Tibetan restaurant I've walked by about 100 times but never noticed... TIL NOW. My friend and I dropped in for lunch recently, and normally I hate buffet style anything (which normally means a large selection of SO MUCH sub-par food I wouldn't normally eat, but gahdamnit, I already paid), but Rangzen's selection is really quite good, and healthy, to boot. I'm not crazy about their momo aka Tibetan dumplings (there are a lot better places for your momo addiction), but they have a massive spread of fruit, salad, Tibetan bread, lentil soup, milk tea, and all sorts of other goodies that will leave you loving your lunch and not feeling at all like food coma is going to take you hostage for the next few hours. It's the perfect spot for those who are more into a vegetarian diet, though they do have meat dishes as well, so pretty much a little bit of something for everyone.

Loved the food! I always dreamed of going to Tibet. Never been there and never had food from there either. Prior to my visit to Boston, my long time Bostonian scientist friend (originally from North India area) mentioned about this place and this was my first food I had (outside the hotel) during my short visit here. I didn't know they were doing lunch buffet until I walked in and started eating buffet food without even asking for the price. Well it was $12.10 per person. They also have nice hot green tea and milk tea (I thought it tastes like chai tea but it said milk tea). I would be glad to pay for more for the food they served. I started my lunch with cold salad food. Not sure what all were but slight hint of spiciness to some of the food I tried. Hot buffet food, I didn't read the description of what each food was but I tried them all. Again, all were slightly spicy but not too spicy like Indian food. It tasted like between Indian food and Chinese food. Just take both of good from them and made it to a dish. I like spicy food but not that much so their food was perfect for me. Nicely flavored. I wish I had time to come back for dinner food. Service was good. They seemed to be from the Tibet area, very polite and humble. They had nice shy smile every time I look at them. While we were there, a Buddhist monk walked in to dine in. He fit in so good with the decor/ambiance of the restaurant. If I have chance to come back to Boston, I would like to come back here to eat again.

Went based on a recommendation and the place turned out to be a gem. We were a group of six and the owner manager was very accommodating in a small, busy place. They were able to get people moved around and tables together so we could sit as a group. Our server gave us good advice on what to order and the food that flowed out to our table was wonderful. Appetizers - Momo's, Crispy Eggplant, Stuffed Roti. Entrees - Chow Chow of different varieties and another chicken dish. Be sure to enjoy the spicy green sauce! A return trip warranted in the near future. Leave the Amex behind, they take cards but not that one.

Food-wise I have no complaints from Rangzen, in fact, it's quite good. I have actually liked Rangzen on my past visits but this time was a little different. We came by after a freedom trail tour and reached the restaurant at 2:50 pm. We specifically asked them if they're open and they said "yes". No sooner had five minutes gone by, they declared the restaurant is closing at 3 pm. We were still okay with that but they started wrapping up the buffet table. I mean, if you were going to close 10 min after we arrived why not tell us that in the first place? We had already started our meal, so they knew we couldn't do anything and took advantage of the situation. Even if they had postponed clearing up everything by 10-15 min, that would have been fine. It's like they let us in just to make a few extra bucks for the day, not cool.

Amazing service and delicious food!! My friend told me about the lunch buffet here ($13.80 for lunch excluding tax and tip) and invited me to join her, and I'm so glad I did. To be honest I was kind of nervous after checking out Yelp reviews. Lots of people said it tasted like a mixture of Indian and Chinese food. I'm actually not a fan of Indian food because of the particular spices, especially the curries, so I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the food here. But when I arrived I was really happy to see stir fry, tons of fruit options, dumplings, breads, soups, hot tea, and refreshing salads in addition to curry and dishes that had strong spices. Highlights of the buffet for me included the chicken wings, mushroom and chicken stir fry (delicious on rice), cabbage slaw, and the interesting but amazing tomato and fruit (strawberries, mango, apple) salad with cilantro and a light vinaigrette. The place is small and because it's so popular, it gets kind of cramped, especially in the buffet area. Be careful when navigating because I see potential spills just waiting to happen. Of course since it was a buffet I ate three plates of food. Definitely worth trying!!

I've been coming here since 1999... one of the best kept secrets in Central Square! A staple of Central Square I'd say. Plus, over the years they've gotten consistently better and have never compromised quality. Great food, fresh ingredients and a wonderful selection of entrees. The only negative is the music is on a loop... which kind of drives me nuts, but my luncheon partners are better company and drown out the drone. A bit pricey for lunch.... so a once a week trip... though you could eat here every day and never tire of the freshness or entree mix up. Highest recommendation.

I really like visiting this Tibetan restaurant after being here many times, mostly for the lunch buffet. The staff has always been friendly and courteous, and the food has always been excellent. I also enjoy reading the books on Tibetan culture available in the restaurant.

Everytime I head to H Mart, I'm always passing by Rangzen Tibetan Place. This went on for about 2 years and finally I told myself, "Enough already. Let's try some Tibetan food!" Restaurant Type: Casual Dining. My short summary sentence: Momo for the Millionaire Guru. I really wanted to like the place. I mean, they did a wonderful job with the exterior and the prayer flags hanging outside their veneer. The menu was nicely curated with a thoughtful intro on the first page. The ambiance and the wait staff were all too kind but when the food came, things started to go a little south. At $15.95 for 8 pieces of lamb momo, I expected complex flavors and textures. When I bit into it, all of it was absent. Don't get me wrong, they were good but not at that price point I was anticipating much more. I would have felt quite differently at half the price which brings me to their lunch buffet. At $14.77 per person, this may address my price complaints and change my review. Perhaps, this is the experience reviewers rave about. For that reason this review remains to be finalized. $12 lunch buffet, Tibetan style with green and milk tea included. Now if only I had any clue what Tibetan cuisine entails... Turns out it's got a heavy influence, with Japanese familiar plates to increase universal appeal, perhaps? Not that there's anything wrong with seeing Chicken Teriyaki (earthy, tangy, not even close to being sweet), Curried Chicken (stewed til pull apart with white and dark meat) or hot wings (more chicken? AWLOVIT!), but I hoped for more regional all-stars. Then I tried the spicy vegetable momos. Momo, I'm coming home. Starchy steamed dumplings with well-seasoned potatoes, cauliflower and other mashables, these things are crazy addictive. With or without sauce, they're dry exterior yields to pleasantly dense and creamy innards. Well played! Pickled daikon is potent, and heavily preferred over the all-mustard assorted pickles. I guess mustard is big in Tibet. Well, it's very big in these pickles. Damn. All in all, a steal of a deal, in a pleasant dining room and a cordial staff tending to your every need. No sooner had the last bite of plate one disappeared, then a phantom hand swooped it away. Round two awaits. The food is incredibly light, meaning your usual 3pm coma will have to wait til you go back to Picante. Heathen. Dining room's tiny, so skip bringing the office - just your office crush. Dining here is more than just a meal. It's an experience where you feel transported to the Himalayas. It feels very authentic. The furniture is varnished wood. There are flags similar to those that can be seen on Mount Everest. The music is regional as well. I tried the lunch buffet which had a large array of Tibetan delicacies: veggie momo (dumplings), pickled veggies, sautéed greens with noodles and tofu, beets, rice, 2 types of Himalayan bread, marinated cauliflower, oven baked eggplant, lentil soup, different types of salads, kale and chickpeas, tasty cabbage slaw, and much more. For the carnivores there was beef broth, curry chicken, and a few other meat and chicken dishes. There was also a sweet dessert rice with dried fruits and nuts, fresh fruit, milk tea, green tea, and other tasty sauces and treats My favorite was the rolled Tibetan bread- like a soft sweet rolled crepe. All of my food was fresh, unique, and delicious. Dirty dishes were cleared immediately and my glass was constantly refilled with fresh,cold water. After a lovely satisfying meal my bill came up to about $13- very reasonable I also noticed some shelves full of Tibetan books available for browsing. Overall, a wonderful experience, tasty food, and reasonably priced. Highly recommend

I love this place and their weekend buffet option because they actually have a good selection of veggies! I can try all the different things and not leave feeling too gross and greasy. Dinner here is also quite good and in my opinion very vegetarian friendly.

A friend and I had a lovely early dinner here a couple of weeks ago. We had the place to ourselves and the service was perfectly nice. But the place smelled like a combo of strong incense (ok with me but could be overpowering for someone who doesn't like this scent) and mildew (yuck). We almost left because of the smell. The food was pretty fresh but almost completely flavorless. Ah well.

What exactly is Tibetan food? I didn't know. And I went to find out. This restaurant is a small, intimate space super close to the Central T stop. It was a little cramped (especially considering it was a Tuesday night).. the waiter asked me to take my purse off the back of my chair since he couldn't walk between the tables, but once we got situated it was fine. Okay let's check out this menu. I was pleased to see that the alcohol was super affordable. Every glass of beer and wine were under $5! Whenever I try a new cuisine, I like to have a local drink with it, and although they carried local non-alcoholic drink options (tea, juice, etc), I didn't find any Tibetan boozy beverages (the closest was Indian and Thai beer). As for the wines, they had standard, nameless options. But for $4.25, I'm not complaining. Maybe Tibet doesn't have breweries or vineyards, what for the major monk population and all. Beats me. It was my dining partner's first Tibetan experience as well, so we started out with the appetizer combo in order to try out a few different things. I didn't expect everything on the plate (green stuff, potato, chickpea, eggplant) to taste so similar. It was all fried and came with two little pots of red (mild) and green (spicy) sauces. They were delicious, don't get me wrong, and the textures differentiated them, but they mostly all tasted like fried vegetable with sauce on top. Regardless, my fave fried veggie was the mushroom with mushed chickpeas. Mmm. Entree time! The menu is pretty extensive, making our decision-making a bit difficult. So we started with general categories and worked our way down to the specifics. Meat and veggies with rice. You want beef. I'm in a chicken mood. This mixture of ingredients and spices sounds appetizing. Langsha Shogo and Chhasha Po Tsel. Done. I really enjoyed these dishes. They were flavorful, and the sauces mixed well with the meat and veggies. I didn't find the meat to be of the best quality, and it was a little tougher than I would have preferred (especially the beef). But maybe that's how they do it in the Himalayas. Also, it was a lot of food. I barely ate any of my rice and took home leftovers for at least two lunches. Maybe three. Therefore, although initially pricey, for the amount of food we got, it came out to be pretty reasonable. Overall, I'd call this a cultural cuisine success. After our Himalayan meal, I felt like I'd climbed Mt. Everest. I just need a Tibetan beer to celebrate.

Wow! What an experience - I felt like I was eating in the Himalayas. I got the lamb momos. I've had my fair share of dumplings in my life, but I've never had ones quite like these. First of all, they were a lot larger than the typical Chinese dumplings or the Japanese gyoza. The skin was thicker, and there was just something intrinsically different about the taste of it. I can't really describe it, but I definitely enjoyed it. I also tried a noodle soup - again, it was really good (unlike other Asian noodle soups)! It was also fairly well-priced - it won't break your bank! My favorite part was the dessert. We tried two of them - the Deshi and the Phagtsa Magu. What I really liked about them was that they were not what one would traditionally consider dessert in the West - the syrupy sweet, rich, buttery kind. This was much lighter, not as saccharine sweet, but equally tasty - and probably a lot healthier.

I have never had Tibetan food before- this was pretty good !! The ingredients were fresh for sure. We tried all of the momo options and the vegetable momo is the best one they offer! The lentil soup and clear broth soup were both very tasty and comforting. The fruit.salad.was very interesting- it was dressed with lime juice and salt (a bit heavy on the salt). We tried some of the juices which were more so like a smoothie. We had green juice, blue juice, and red juice. They were actually all really good but the portion is rather large. We also had a noodle dish with tofu which was alright. There could have been a but more flavor in the nooe but still tasty. The decorations are super cute inside. The staff was super nice and accommodating as well. We had a great time and a great meal!
