17 of the World's Most Beautifully Broken Places

"Romania’s beautiful landscape features the Carpathian Mountains, the Danube Delta, and miles of coastline along the Black Sea. But one spot, just outside Sebeș, is interrupted by a jagged red anomaly. The city is guarded by the steep walls of the Râpa Roșie (Red Ravine), a geological reserve on the most southwesterly part of the Secaşelor Plateau. Over the last 60 million years, water has carved deep into the gravel, sandstone, and quartz of the plateau’s sublayer, creating unusual natural spiked towers and pyramid shapes in the red clay.  The result is often compared to the Grand Canyon, though it’s not quite as massive; the ravine’s tallest peaks are about 300 feet. It is also ever-evolving: Heavy rains cause noticeable changes to the folds in the uniquely steep slopes. The Red Ravine remains relatively unknown, even to those who have lived nearby for years. There are however local tales of World War I soldiers passing through the ravine in order to get to Alba Iulia, where, at the end of the war, representatives declared the union of Transylvania and Romania. In 1950, the area, which is home to many rare and endemic plants and some of the largest caves in the world, was declared a natural monument. Thanks to its obscurity, and consequential lack of visitors, the ravine remains in beautiful shape." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Exceptional! Beautiful natural creature. The road is a bit difficult until there. you have to take the road exactly how google map sends you. That is the correct way. You can arrive by car only to nearby. And then you have to go through the forest (with foot, not so difficult, 10 minutes walk) to arrive to nearby

Beautiful place where you can also free camp. Definitely worth to visit. From the roundabout by the bridge on a easy off-road that any car can drive on ( we did it when there wasn’t rain/mud ) Google maps worked great and took us correctly at the Rapa Rosie.

This location has significant potential for improvement. 📈 Upon our arrival, we encountered a canine 🐕 safeguarding a flock of sheep. 🐑 The canine remained in our presence throughout the evening. 🌙

Impressive scenery. Short acces. Use of flipflops is ill advised, the path is steep without steps and slippery when covered with sand, certainly in dry periods. Large, free parking.

Awesome view and the formations look really cool. Easy to access by car ,after which you need to walk a bit (10min) to get to the viewpoints. The short hike through the woods is a bit steep and slippery so you need shoes with grip, hiking sticks or someone to hold your hand and help you :)

An interesting geological formation, with the classification of a natural reserve. We did a 3 hour hike, exploring the muddy ravines and making a lot of photos. PS. If you decide to go there, please keep the nature clean.

A very nice location that can be reached by car ,but please be aware that the last 4 kilometres are on macadam road, so it will take you 15-20 minutes to reach your destination. Once you arrive you can see what the mother can create if humans don't interfere. If you are nearby and you have a regular car ( not Ferrari or Lambo type) it is a must see .

This is my favorite place in Romania for wild camping. The location is popular with tourists, especially those driving campers. There is a place for a campfire, nature all around and beautiful rock formations that I recommend to approach. You can also get a panoramic view of the town of Sebes from this spot. *Beware only of foxes, which are not afraid to prowl all over the area and steal food and garbage.
