"Rapid Ray's, a staple on Saco's Main Street since the 1950s, delivers fast food the way you want it: with a side of nostalgia and none of the icky politics of multinational corporations. The menu of hot dogs, hamburgers, and onion rings is simple, just the way you imagine life in the good ol' days." - Kate McCarty

Google
Excellent food and fair prices. The burgers and clam cakes were great. It is take-out only, not a seat in the place. It is called Rapid Ray's, after all. It's got all the atmosphere of a retro cafe: chrome, neon, and the smell of deep-frying oil in the air. It will take you back in time.

Google
Rapid Rays is a fantastic spot that captures the food truck vibe with style. The place is impressively clean, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The staff is professional and attentive, making the experience smooth and enjoyable. And the food? Outstanding! Each food item is bursting with flavor and made from fresh ingredients. With efficient service even during busy times, Rapid Rays is a must-visit for delicious food in a fun environment. Highly recommended!

Google
Really lives up to it's name, food was freshly made yet ready exceptionally quick, a large order for 4 was ready in under 3 minutes. The food has a classic small town feel to it; I recommend going with the steamed dogs and a side of fries. For drinks they have standard water, soda, and coffee options or if you want to try something more unique you can pick up 8oz cartons of milk (either plain or chocolate) for $1.

Google
Rapid Ray's... In search of the local spot for good food, we stumbled upon Rapid Ray's! I honestly thought that there would be tables and chairs ( don't know why!) but no! Anywho, great vibe, great people behind the counter, good (fast food) menu! As we waited in line, we asked a local lady what her favorite item on the menu was. She fired - the hot dogs (without even thinking). I said, well, when in Maine, one has to try the seafood, so against the local recommendation, we went clam cake and lobster roll ☺️. I wasn't wowed , but the whole establishment, the people, the spirit - made it a great experience! One day I will go back to try the hot dogs!

Google
Found this recommended on google maps when trying to find a lunch stop, glad we stopped. Extremely well kept restaurant. Walk up window to order, no seating inside restaurant however there are benches outside to sit at. Prices are very decent. Highly suggest the lobster roll and onion rings! It was a cute little stop in this beautiful area.

Google
This place is FANTASTIC! The food is amazing, fast service and friendly staff who know what they are doing. They are very helpful, the prices are incredible and I love taking my family there as a special treat. They love it, too! It's my son's new favorite place. Thank you, Rapid Ray's!

Google
I absolutely loved this place, everything used to be great I was here every day when I lived in saco! Came in for the first time in a while and was greeted with nothing but rude comments and two rude employees and then on top of that I got the nastiest burger I’ve had in my entire life. You guys fell off for real, do better with yourselves…

Wayne Simmons

Google
Stand up place, the guy who took our order was great. Our first time in, and we got a bunch of burgers fries, onion rings, and drinks. The food was all good, the burger toppings are customizable, the fried and onion rings were fresh. The only drawback was there was nowhere to sit with tables. There is a high counter you can stand at, and a few benches right outside. We sat at the bench and enjoyed a day with good weather. The price was right too! A good sized lunch portion, the burger patties were thin but well cooked. Toppings were fresh. Coffee was good. This is a good place if you are looking for fast inexpensive food and your on the go. I'd recommend you try it out.

Amy C.

Yelp
Always a great spot to stop late night to get a snack. The burgers are a perfect ending to a night out. Don't forget to order onion rings also!

Ashley W.

Yelp
Maybe it's the retro vibe or maybe even the name, but the food here just tastes a perfect summer night, even in winter. I imagine the burgers are what McDonald's mights tasted like before they were a chain. Fries are perfect as is, but the poutine is a game changer. Scratches the burger craving and the fried side craving perfectly.

Ron B.

Yelp
Good burgers and fries. Support from business. Need 85 characters yoooooooooooooooo

Bert W.

Yelp
Food was inexpensive and fast. Better then MD or BK Was a little unflavored, not sure if I would eat there again if in the area, but I might. I'll try food twice to be sure it wasn't just an off day

Regina D.

Yelp
We got the Lobster roll and Poutine. Both were good. For the poutine it's the first time we have had it so we have nothing to compare it to. But you can't go wrong with French fries gravy and cheese curds. We are trying lobster rolls from different locations and we just left a place that charged 30 bucks for the same size lobster roll. Anyway Rapid rays was only 14 plus it was sooooo much better! We didn't think we would like a cold lobster roll but boy was it wonder. I went home thinking I was going to come back and get four. The service was definitely fast.

Athina L.

Yelp
Friendliest service I've ever encountered! We went twice during our recent vacation-and both times we were greeted in such a warm welcoming manner! Hot dog was delicious! The roll was steamed and perfectly squishy. All the fixins-delicious!! French fries were delicious! Hot and crispy-shoestrings. 2nd time we each had burgers and poutine. The Patties are very thin-but I actually kind of prefer that. The roll was super fresh and soft. The poutine was great! Would be great if they had some picnic tables instead of just benches-it looks like they'd have plenty of room for at least 3 or more. That's my only critique. Place looks super clean too!!

Brooke D.

Yelp
Great food at a great price! Amazing service! Love the set up and the flow of things. Will ALWAYS recommend rapid rays! Love bringing my out of town friends to try!

Thomas L.

Yelp
This place simply doesn't have enough 5 star reviews... period. Good people, good service, great food. Need anything else? Didn't think so.

Sami O.

Yelp
Friends who recently moved to the area took my husband to Rapid Ray's last weekend to pickup dinner. The burgers were SO GOOD as were the fries and onion rings. Can't say I have been inside but he said it was a fun atmosphere!

Mike S.

Yelp
When you have a craving good old fashioned burgers and fries or hot dogs, made in a hurry, then this is the place for you. Has a 1950s, Arnold's drive in, Happy Days feel to it. Food served fresh and fast. Not the healthiest options but you don't come here for that.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
I am SO glad they now have POUTINE. I have always had a cheeseburger from here & fries, but POUTINE!!! I had to stop when I found out they now were serving this. It was the perfect combination of gravy and cheese curds. Don't forget to try it out next time you stop for a burger or hot dog!

Nicholas C.

Yelp
It's fine, I suppose. Nothing really remarkable flavor-wise. No frills is an understatement.

Laurie B.

Yelp
These burgers are to die for. These guys are expedient & got it down! They aren't messing around. I love the putini, if you're not familiar this is French Fries with gravy & cheese! Yummy! Not fattening at all. Haha!! R.R.'S is wicked good stuff!! I have to say best burgers hands down. I always loved those late night burger trucks at the beaches after a night out. There's none in my area so moving on. I have to go to Rapid Ray's soon. It has been months. They've been in business a number of years. When I hooked a friend up with a ride it all came back to me. The area had changed but Rapid Ray's remained. It's a nice little shopping district. It was 98° the last time I went. I despise the heat but Rapid Ray's is fast & furious so i dealt with this insidious heat. They will have your food to you in no time. They don't have any competitors because honestly they are not as great as Rapid Ray's! I went to Another restaurant that has multiple locations. It looked as though my burger fell on the floor & the "3 second rule" was applied, GROSS!. If you've been in Service you know what I'm talking about. So in ending my review of Rapid Ray's these guys do make the best burgers in New England "cha ching ling ding dong"!! The BEST! Here's to RAPID RAY'S & THE BEST BURGERS AROUND. by wikidboody!

Leah W.

Yelp
Rapid Rays is one of those places that you go to rarely but whenever you do - you fully appreciate it! This is a great place to stop by if you've forgotten to make dinner or are coming home from a "dinner" that wasn't very good or filling. Their food is a nostalgic throw back to "simpler times", but is fresh and delicious! I consistently love their onion rings and that they have chocolate milk a la middle school!! Note that there is no seating - you eat standing up by the windows or in your car. Don't worry, its so delicious that none of it will be left by the time you arrive at your next destination! ;)

ML N.

Yelp
Love this place! We aren't local but we have run across this place a few times as my daughter was considering going to college up the road at UNE (and she decided to go there so we will be here more often!) Just had it today - cheeseburger and small onion ring. So good, friendly and quick. The small onion ring is a big serving and they are SO good! Cheeseburger was fresh, good quality and yummy. Folks here are really nice - highly recommend!!

Wayne C.

Yelp
Best thing about this place is food comes out fairly quick. But then it doesn't take too long to cook a wafer thin burger. This is takeout only unless want to sit on a bench or stand at a slim counter along the windows. Fries were the best. Hot and crispy but not salted enough (or at all?). Double burger too pricey for what it was, single was pretty skimpy. Not all that special. Fairly bland. Typical fast food in the end.

Chrysanthi L.

Yelp
I've driven by Rapid Ray's for almost 2 years now and always have wanted to check it out. I called ahead to see if I could place an order over the phone for pickup, but they are not doing call-in orders currently which is no problem. I drove on over and when I walked up to the counter, I was greeted by friendly employees behind the counter. A+ for customer service for sure! I placed an order for fries, onion rings, a "big one" fully loaded, and and a hamburger fully loaded. The order total came to about $18 and took only about 5 minutes to be prepared. During this time, I was able to see the kitchen and noticed that all of the toppings for the burgers looked so fresh. Once my order was up, I raced home eager to try my haul. The burgers were delicious- fresh, cooked, and seasoned well. Of note, the relish used on the burgers is sweet relish. The onion rings... oh my were they good!!! When I tried the fries, I was sorely disappointed... they were severely under-seasoned. In thinking about my overall review, the only critique I have are the fries. The service was quick and friendly, and the rest of our food was spot-on. My partner and I actually did some math and realized that a comparable meal at McDonalds would be similarly priced AND would be without all of the other benefits of Rapid Ray's (#1 = supporting local!). So next time you're craving a good burger, I'd highly recommend trying out this awesome spot.

Mark H.

Yelp
Quick old time lunch counter. Simple burger and Fries in less than 5 minutes. Try the onion rings!

Ceyda E.

Yelp
we always try when we come in Maine because it's my husband childhood tradition and we still always do thank you Rapid Ray's

Francisco L.

Yelp
Went here for a cheeseburger and fries. The fries are just ok, but the burger is outstanding. The service is also really fast. Way better than a fast food joint.

Thomas B.

Yelp
It's unlikely a visit to Rapid Ray's will give your life new meaning or expand your food palate to places previously unknown. However it's quite likely you can leave satisfied knowing that for under 10 dollars you can kickback, rewind life a few years, get a burger, some onion rings, and a chocolate milk, all while supporting a Maine institution and a family business. The "big one" is the way to go, loaded as you like. Some good onion rings, and how can Oakhurst chocolate ever be bad? It doesn't get much more American then Rapid Rays.

Gabrielle V.

Yelp
Perfect little pick up restaurant! Where else are you going to find hot dogs for $2?! The Lobster Rolls are $9! I loved the Chili and cheese hot dogs and clambake burgers! They are super fast and perfect for this pandemic! We LOVE this place and happy to support them. Their food, service and atmosphere are superb! You can also walk down past the bridge and finish your meal right on the pier! Love this place in Saco!

Markie A.

Yelp
A Southern Maine classic!! Since 1953 Rapid Rays has made the "Big One" with fries onion rings and more. Although a simple burger, it has great flavor! Crispy bun on every burger. They have a poutine option that tastes great. Fast service. Definitely recommend adding this to your burger tour in maine.

Rene C.

Yelp
Hotdogs are the best, especially steamed with a bun that wraps itself around the dog. Well, Rapid Rays certainly does it right when it comes to the All American Hotdog. The restaurant is located on Main Street in the heart of Saco, Maine. As my cousin remembers it, the establishment began when original owner, Ray Camire sold hotdogs and hamburgers right out of the back of a truck and his claim to fame was making them fast, thus the name "Rapid". As the late night crowds grew, so did the business, until a building was built. Along with a perfect hotdog, Rapid Rays offers hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, French fries, onion rings and a few seafood options like clam cakes and lobster rolls. You can get your dog with cheese or chili and loaded with mustard, relish and onions, which is just the way I like mine. I say load it up! Prices are very reasonable and service is fast. I am sure that the next time I visit, I will purchase the Poutine which is French fries loaded with gravy and cheese curds. So, if you are in the mood for a dog or burger quick and are in the Saco area, I would highly recommend stopping by Rapid Rays. Please if you do, let me know how your experience went and if you ordered the Poutine, clue me in as to how it tastes.

Shannon M.

Yelp
Favorite spot in the area to get burgers and dogs! You cannot beat the prices. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! You can't go wrong with anything here.

Eric B.

Yelp
So I had my first Rapid Ray's burgers in 1989, some buddies took me their while were were finishing up a night out. I went there for lunch a week later when my perceptions were clearer. It is an old style burger place, the burgers are small, so you can eat more, and made to order. There is only standing room, no seats, and it is popular. They started as a "food truck" in the 1950's. Their hotdogs are almost as popular as their burgers. The sides of fries and onion-rings rock too! This is how it works they take you order for burgers, you pay, and your name. When the meat is cooked they call your name, and they ask you what you want on it (onion, mustard, relish, etc), if you want other fixings you should have ordered the deluxe. They box up your bounty and give it to you. No fuss, no muss! Enjoy! Whenever I pass Saco I try to grab a burger. I send people there for the experience of how-things-used-to-be. They have picnic tables outside too. It has no airs and their business are burgers! The place is what it is.

Lance C.

Yelp
Was a good meal, it has the feel of that "old school 50's vibe" which I live the feeling of. I like the onion rings a lot. The fries are a pretty standard fries and the burgers are a notch above a McDonald's burger. Very clean restaurant and nice staff.

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Ordered 4 burgers in the summer of 2022, and two large fries. My oldest son took a bite into his burger, looked down and noticed the bottom bun was green. It was covered in mold. My husband brought the burger back to show the employees. The response he got was "we've been running into this problem a lot lately" they were completely nonchalant about the entire thing and completely brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal. It takes two seconds to check the buns that they're putting on the grill. The employees aren't taking the proper steps in preparing the food properly for customers. We haven't been back and won't be going back, which is unfortunate because up until that moment we were regular customers.

Alex O.

Yelp
My go-to lately! Always quick, consistent, and big portions for as cheap as it gets. Also open until 11, which is rare to find during the pandemic! The kid at the register today was especially kind. Poutine is their hidden gem, it's a must have every visit.

Rocco P.

Yelp
Was always a late nite treat growing up. Hadn't been for a while and recently got 2 hotdogs. Fantastic. Packaged up to stay stable & warm till you get to your car. You can get whatever condiments you want, I asked for a little mayo on mine--I love it that way along with the other more traditional condiments. They have a little bit of a heavy hand with that so some might want to ask for light amount of condiments so the hot dog doesn't shoot out of the bun! So good with extra raw onions & I never get the celery salt that folks around here traditionally let the establishment put on--celery salt, hello it's salty enuf people! One day may try their other items, but it's been years and I can't get past the friggin' tasty dogs!

Alison M.

Yelp
Lined up outside yesterday for Rapid Ray's. It was 2 pm and we were starving but apparently so were a lot of others. Glad to see people being patient and following mask protocol and social distancing and only 5 people at a time in the lobby, which provides ample room for social distancing. The staff work really hard and deserve a tip!!! Hint hint to some I observed in there! Excellent place to satisfy your craving for a burger or steamed dog. Don't forget the celery salt!

Amy E.

Yelp
I had a lobster roll and onion rings. They were both great! Prices were super reasonable. Service was really fast!

Crys S.

Yelp
The last time I came here it was as a teenager with my dad. I'd forgotten how good the food is. When you're a native of New England hot dogs and top split buns or something of an art form. When I came this time with my husband and our kids, they waited in the car while I got an order. A couple hot dogs and some shoestring fries were quickly devoured! I went back in for a second order containing a clam cake sandwich for my husband, two hot dogs for me, an order of onion rings and a soda. Thin cut crispy onion rings, the style I prefer! All of us were quite happy with the food and it's definitely somewhere will come back and get food from while out for a drive or on our way to an activity.

Beth P.

Yelp
If you love hot dogs like i do, then Rapid Rays in a must! Old fashioned steamed hot dogs with a steamed bun. Cant get much better than that. I also love their burgers. Nice and thin and juicy. Food truck food minus the truck. You can either stand at the windows and eat and do some people watching or you can bring your food to you car to enjoy.

Kate S.

Yelp
From the outside this looks like a classic 50s diner or something. The menu is short and sweet, the prices are very low. Feels like it belongs at the fairgrounds or on a beach boardwalk. Everything we tried was absolutely wonderful: hot dogs, clam cake burger, fries, onion rings. Update from 20 minutes later: oh man, I ate too much

Tiara W.

Yelp
If you're looking to grab something quick and inexpensive, Rapid Rays is the way to go. The service is always friendly and on point. If you're in the area, I would highly recommend checking them out! Good quality food that won't hit your wallet hard.

Jerome D.

Yelp
Everything is just really bland. The burgers and fries look very similar to McDonalds but don't taste nearly as good. They need to learn how season their gray meat. Very fast service. Be ready to tell them what you want on your burger. Order your fries crispy!

Michael L.

Yelp
I've been visiting this place since me and my wife first started visiting her family. Love their hotdogs I usually get them with the celery salt and even put it on my fries. Will definitely be coming back again and again.

Meagan S.

Yelp
I'm new to town and I have been so pleasantly surprised by how great Rapid Ray's is and it's a true town staple. Their lobster rolls and onion rings are sublime and not too costly. My boyfriend loves their burgers and hand-cut shoe string fries. A solid must try for anyone!

Heather H.

Yelp
The guys here are great! Food is always top notch and service is quick. Parking cab be difficult depending on the time of day but it's worth it.

William G.

Yelp
I wouldn't know what the food is like. Their business model appears to be to make it as difficult as possible to get food from them. We went their (five of us) one evening to be told we couldn't eat there due to covid, okay. We attempted to order two nights later and they told us that they didn't take internet orders nor telephone orders. So to get their food, one must go there and find some other place to eat. It is no wonder their store wasn't crowded.

Evan B.

Yelp
It's midnight and I'm in California craving a big one, fries, and a choc! I have a long way to go but I promise I'll be back soon. Even if I have to walk...

Joe Y.

Yelp
Classic dog and burger. You feel like you're tasting history with every bit. Make sure to know what you're issuing when you get into line because they take the order far and the name it fast so that I it's hit and fresh for you to eat. Some might call the dog small so don't be afraid to order two. If you are looking for a burger, they don't disappoint. Take some time while you eat and appreciate the history.

John G.

Yelp
Sure if you like a burger and a chili dog wrap it raises your place late night mid day they are open all the time been here forever delicious snack after coming out of the bar or a great lunch spot try the onion rings delicious.

Marty D.

Yelp
My favorite place for burgers and dogs in the Biddeford / Saco area, great fries and crab cakes as well. I've been going to Ray's since I was a freshman at St Francis College in 1974. It a must stop whenever I return to the area! Great food at a great price, beats the chains by a mile.

Bill G.

Yelp
Three and a half stars is about right. The place is good at what they do: churn out hot dogs, burgers, fries and onion rings. I think with a few small changes they could be even better: make grilled hot dog buns standard (you can ask for this) and larger burger patties, but the place isn't changing. Grilled Chicken sandwich is sneaky good. Standing room only to eat.

Julianna F.

Yelp
McDonald's style with more attitude from the workers. Stay away. Fries weren't bad, but the only redeeming quality

Chris G.

Yelp
Saco staple, worth going out of the way for. Skip Wendy's and come get some burgers, dogs and fries done right. Perfect place for lunch especially during a workday; you're in, you're out, it's quick and cheap. It's like the 'original McDonald's'.

Clint B.

Yelp
This place was alright. Rapid Ray's is your typical old-style fast food burgers and dogs type place. Food was served fairly quickly and tasted decent. Also, the prices seemed fair. There's no indoor seating and a couple benches outside. This place reminds me a lot of Don's Lunch in Westbrook or Joe's Hot Dogs in Joliet. If I lived within walking distance, I'd come more often. But since I'm farther away, I'll likely be taking my business to other Biddeford/Saco food establishments. Rapid Ray's is not bad by any means, but there's just not enough there to make me come back.
