Reducing Dallas Restaurant Capacity (Again) Isn’t Going to Accomplish Much | Eater Dallas

"I heard from Brooks Anderson, co-owner of Rapscallion and Boulevardier, who wrote on Facebook that "We're already at 50% or less," arguing the governor's 50% capacity cap is meaningless for his spots because their dining rooms have been emptier than ever and expressing sharp frustration at the lack of federal relief for restaurants." - Amy McCarthy

Texas Restaurants Can Reopen This Week, But Restaurateurs Still Have Major Concerns | Eater Dallas

"I note that co-owner Brooks Anderson, who runs Rapscallion among other neighborhood spots, isn’t planning to reopen on May 1 and says he has a hard time understanding how a neighborhood bistro could operate at 25 percent capacity, arguing that restaurants struggle even at 100 percent." - Amy McCarthy

Google
My husband and I find this place shem the street from our hotel. Service was great. Friendly. Lots of regulars there, seemed very homey and welcoming. Loved the food. Delicious. We will definitely go back next time we stay in Sturbridge

Google
What a lovely experience. I came here with my sisters and husband for lunch and was just incredibly grateful to have found such an awesome location with such a great vibe. The food was great and it was nice to get to try different beverages. Everyone said that the homemade root beer was their favorite.

Google
I rented the function room at Rapscallion for my son's rehearsal dinner. I was so happy with the service and the food. Everyone there was terrific to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again for a function. Thank you so much. You made things easy.

Google
Harvard Lager Pretzel sticks Shrimp tacos Meatball flatbread special What can I say! Rapscallion never disappoints. This was our first time at the Sturbridge location and it was no exception to that statement. Excellent food, excellent beer, and excellent service.

Google
Starting my leaf peep tour in this quaint little town outside Springfield was smart. This area is what the tourists don't see: a working town in the heart of Massachusetts, nice people, and great food. The Mac'n'Cheese was a special item, but it should be on the regular menu, or it should at least stay for the autumn and winter months. The High Limb Cider truly rode the line of dry and sweet; it was a refreshing, crisp taste that left me wanting another pint (which I did get). If you're driving through or exploring this area, stop here for good food, good atmosphere, and good people

Google
Our second time here on a date night. The nachos were overcooked and not tasty at all. Drinks were good but the shrimp tacos were just alright. We've been here twice and there won't be a third. The food just misses the mark and there are some better places in Sturbridge.

Google
We had our rehearsal dinner at Rapscallion in April and had such a wonderful experience. We were able to utilize the bar space downstairs which had a great atmosphere. We wanted to keep it casual so we had a buffet with an assortment of apps, flatbreads, tacos and sandwiches. Everything was so delicious. The bar staff were amazing and the servers were so kind. We can’t wait to visit again!

Google
Their beer and drinks are great, but their food is also top-notch. My husband doesn't drink, so I love that we can order takeout online. Decent prices and good portions. The pesto salad and chicken pesto wrap are my favorite!!! Tacos, Flatbreads and pretzels with beer cheese also a hit!

Yelp
A great neighborhood vibe where visitors are welcome. I like this place so much I plan my hotel stay on an annual trip so I can walk over for a couple of drinks and dinner.

Diane P.

Yelp
Small, local place. Nice staff, fair prices and adequate food/beer choices. Customers have to order at the bar but food and drinks are served.

Yelp
Rapscallion Pub is a great local pub serving wonderful brews and an interesting variety of pub foods. We stopped in for lunch and ordered the Mediterranean plate and a chicken pesto capris sandwich. Both were absolutely delightful. The chicken was cooked to perfection, the right amount of pesto and served on a delicious roll. The service was wonderful and the ambience was fantastic! We had the Honey Ale, NE IPA and the Irish Red Ale. All were very good and what a craft beer lover would expect. This is our second time here and we are not from the area. It has become our go to pub in Sturbridge! Thank you Rapscallion!

Yelp
Stopped there for a drink before going out for dinner , decided to just eat there . And turned out to be the right decision. I had the gyro , just because I haven't had one in forever , I was a little skeptical and my expectations weren't that high, boy was I wrong . It was great !! I'm already looking forward to going back again for another one . My Girlfriend ordered a chicken wrap of some kind , it sure looked good , no complaints from her , and the pub chips were good .

Yelp
We stopped in for a drink while we were in the area. Easy to see from the main road and plenty of parking. We walked in and after our eyes became adjusted to the dark interior we picked a seat to sit down. The bar was full and not many people in the rest of the place. There were menus available at the tables but we weren't sure if anyone was taking our order or if we had to go to the bar to order. We made our selections and my husband went up to the bar to order our drinks. My husband got a beer and I got a Blackberry mint margarita which was delicious.

Yelp
Sturbridge has many options for you to choose from and many ranges in price, Rapscallion is a "local" feel atmosphere. There isn't table service, you need to order everything from the bar, and then they drop it off. A wide variety of beers, brewed from their main brewery, but i liked the pumpkin the best. The rest were decent, but hit or miss. Good prices as well. Food was a surprise, wife had Buffalo chicken ranch wrap, I had the Cesar wrap, and both were good size and pretty darn good, considering they just started serving food. They gave you a bag of chips with the sandwich and I would prefer they made fries or their own chips and that would have set it over the top

Yelp
Our family held a private gathering here for 38 people for 3 hours, with a buffet dinner and drinks. We had the whole downstairs, which was the perfect casual spot for such a gathering, being comfortable to move around all over the room to socialize with everyone, having space for a few little ones to roam, and table spaces for people to sit when they wanted. The food was very good, especially the burritos and the Mediterranean plate. They provided ample non-alcoholic options in addition to their great beers. The manager, Alia, was excellent to work with in planning the event, flexible and efficient. And the service for the evening was very good. I recommend it highly for a meal, or for a private function.

Yelp
Very solid beer. The food, though, is poor. Kind of like the stuff you get in a college dorm. Service was fine. Ambiance is good.

HungryGirl R.

Yelp
Great service. Cool vibe. Delicious beer selection. Lost a star because the food was bland and tasteless. Glad we tried it once. Probably wouldn't go back
google avatar

Yelp
Great beer choices every time. And I love that they have mostly CT options on tap. Decent food but don't come for the food; come for the beer. My opinion. And they have some outdoor seating for nicer weather.
google avatar

Yelp
Rapscallion benefits a lot from being on the farm. We wandered in after spending some time pumpkin picking. I did not expect to see 15 taps, a large space, and some TVs! Naturally I had to grab a flight (4 small pours). All of the brews are great. I was pleasantly surprised to see root beer for non-drinkers too! They sell growlers and crowlers to take home. So you have no excuse, try them all!
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot! Indoor and outdoor seating and dog friendly (outside). Excellent beer and cocktails so there's something for everyone. Inside is clean. Comfortable, great laid back vibe and awesome service. Perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon.

Yelp
I was in town for the vet tech conference this past weekend and decided to eat dinner here on Saturday night. The food was amazing! And very inexpensive! I had the New England IPA, it was so good I bought a 4 pack!
google avatar

Yelp
With three servers on the floor and fairly empty on patrons we should have received better service. Our guest theorized that he suspected that the food was held off so that we would drink our ales so that we would order more beers for the meal. We had to confront a waitress as to why our nachos and pizza hadn't arrived after thirty minutes. She retrieved it from the kitchen and announced that they just came up. Nope. BOTH Cold. Nachos were horrible. Cold canned refried beans under a layer of chips that were barely covered with cheese. A big DISAPPOINTMENT. Right up there with the worst nachos that we ever had. Small portion for the cost. IPA, thin body and acceptable but not memorable.

Yelp
On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon, Rapscallion was packed. The tasting room was crowded and there were two private events on the premises (a bridal shower in progress and preparation for an evening wedding). On the grounds they also have a Disc Golf Course, and farm animals on the grounds. The tasting room is inside an old apple barn, and it had all demographics represented -in fact I was surprised at how many kids were there, sipping root beers while their parents and relatives were sampling some of Rapscallion's very good beers. They have 20 beers in their repertoire; nine "mainstays" and eleven "seasonals". I had a $9 flight of four beers, each sample was 4 ounces. Here's what I had: Honey (4.5% ABV) - "Our flagship beer. An extra pale ale brewed with wildflower honey; not sweet, a refreshing session ale". This was a very good refreshing beer. I found it to be extremely drinkable. Blueberry Ale (5% ABV) - "A refreshing pale ale with a balanced blueberry flavor". I liked this on a lot too. It had just a hint of sweetness to it. Red (5.6% ABV) - "A classic Irish-style red ale". I thought it had a slightly sour taste to it. White (5% ABV) - "A Belgian style wit made with lemongrass, bitter and sweet orange peel, coriander and cardamom". Very drinkable with slight bitterness. They have a refrigerator behind the bar in the tasting room where they sell quart sized cans, and I picked up a few of their Rye IPA cans ($9) for my IPA loving buddies. We really enjoyed our visit -the vibe in the tasting room was super friendly, and the servers we interacted with were very personable.

Yelp
Love their beer - their red is exceptional. Nice place to go for a beer. They have a limited food menu. The Cesar salad wrap is great and the quesadillas are good.

Yelp
This is the best! This is exactly what a pub should be - great atmosphere, fantastic food, and an awesome selection of beer! Part of me is glad that I don't live close because I would be here every day; most of me is sad that something like this doesn't exist where I live. While here, my partner and I sampled five different beers; each was an excellent representation of their particular style. I very much enjoyed the New England IPA. The food - chicken quesadilla and Mediterranean plate - was a perfect pairing with sipping beer and hanging out enjoying the evening. I can't imagine not enjoying your time here at Rapscallion Pub.
google avatar

Dustin H.

Yelp
Cool pub to watch a game but honestly just to enjoy some good beer! Outdoor and indoor seating made this a great place to grab a drink with friends during the fall. Next time we are in town, we will be sure to drop in!

Yelp
Sometimes the small, off the beaten path places are some of the best, and Rapscallion Brewery was one of them! First let me start by saying that I'm not a beer drinker, however, I tried something's that were absolutely fabulous. I had a glass of their blueberry wine- it was absolutely delicious. My hunny had the blueberry beer, which was good. The best, however was their white beer. It was brewed with lemongrass, orange peel, cardamom, and coriander. To say it was good would be a gross understatement- it was absolutely fabulous! Note: The Sturbridge location is moving to Spencer, MA, and there is also a couple of additional locations to choose from. http://drinkrapscallion.com/sturbridge/

Yelp
fantastic food! I thought I was going for basic pub food and was totally surprised!
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped here for a beer and dinner on our way through town and loved it! The beer was excellent and so was the French dip and the gyro! We sat outside on a lovely warm evening before we headed to our Airbnb! Very relaxing stop after a 6 hour drive from Jonesport Maine!
google avatar

Jess L.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I only spent about 30 minutes here, but I am glad we stopped by. There was actually a wedding going on in the side rooms, so that was a nice moment to peep in and see, but there were still about 25 people in the tap room enjoying their beers. Including babies! My only hesitation in giving a full 5 stars is that their flights did not include all their beers. There were some I was really interested in trying, but there are 5 beers to choose from for 4 slots. But then there were around 5 others not on the flight list. Nonetheless, I really dug their Blonde and IPA.

Yelp
I was almost certain I had reviewed this place already, but apparently not. Overall I really like this place. Great servers, great setting / feel, and good beer to boot. If I was a local, I'd be here pretty often. I've had just about every beer they make at this point, and most of them are quite good. There are a couple that I didn't care for, but that's what getting the flights is all about...finding your beer. Their honey, lager, blonde and blueberry were all quite enjoyable for me. Others as well, but memories fade. Bah. One important and cool note - they let us bring a dog with us (though they may be selective on breed). That was pretty cool, as we had no where else to put him and would have had to cancel the trip here otherwise. People were all very friendly and happy to pet the little guy too, so he was happy (skittish, but happy). As soon as I can convince the GF, I'll be back. ...now I just need to try the disc golf course that they have, or return in the fall to go apple picking at the adjacent orchard. :)

Yelp
This place is cool. We stopped here after going to Tree House. They had food which Tree House doesn't. The food was off a food truck and everything was good. The pizza and fries and chicken all came out hot and fast! They had a couple ciders and they were pretty tasty. The vibe is definitely different and next door there a really cool venue (not sure if they own it) but seems nice! Cute little place that my friends and I had a great time at! They are dog friendly! Another reason we went!

Yelp
Great spot!! Great drink selection. Snacks were okay. I recommend the pretzels over the charcuterie board.

Yelp
Great beer! A cozy atmosphere, love the neighborhood bar feel!! Super friendly bartenders. Definitely my new go to!!

Yelp
Great place to get a beer! The brisket sandwich is out of this world! It felt super safe in Covid-times.

Yelp
Stopped here on a Sunday afternoon after perusing brimfield all day. What a great brewery! Its spacious and dog friendly. There is a great selection of beer on tap. Every beer we tried we loved. There is a nice patio in the back where you can sit outside. The staff was amazing. Every single one of them was friendly and knowledgable about the beer they were serving. It is kind of out on a back road so its a beautiful area. They have a disc golf course across the street. There was also a food truck you could order from outside. Definitely recommend and cannot wait to go back!

Karen J.

Yelp
Limited menu BUT what they do make is really, really good. The goat cheese and arugula flatbread was delicious.

Scott B.

Yelp
Fantastic local brew pub. Nice beer variety and good food. It was immediately clear that this pub is where the locals hung out, lots of friendly conversation. Very welcoming.
google avatar

Ben G.

Yelp
The beer here is ok at best, Majority of the time I feel like this is a place for people who aren't aware of the amazing other breweries in the area, or simply like average beer.
google avatar

Frank V.

Yelp
Awesome brewery in Western Massachusetts. No hype no line just damn good beer! Need I say more.
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
Nice brewery for hanging out and tasting some beers. My friend and I walked in to the tasting room and were greeted by one of the bartenders. After a few minutes we decided which beers we wanted to taste, so we made our selections and collected our flights. $9 to taste 4 beers was pretty good I think. There's ample seating between 3 different areas. I was surprised how full it was already, considering we got there a half hour after they opened. I think people that live nearby come here to hang out, since it's definitely a very chill place where you can spend a few hours. My favorite beer was the Honey, while my friend's favorite was the Irish Red. I was pleasantly surprised when I was told they had a food truck on site. We were thinking we'd go get lunch somewhere, but since we weren't ready to leave, we just ordered some food and stayed a while longer. While our grilled cheese with fries was good (I mean how can you even mess that up) I could've done without the pretzel. It wasn't as soft as I would've liked and the beer cheese sauce didn't taste good. No biggie though. If you have a dog, make sure you come here! This place is very dog friendly. I was happily petting other people's dogs like a crazy dog lady.
google avatar

Shauna L.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Totally off the beaten path. There's an outdoor pavilion area with picnic tables and a stage for live music. Inside there is a corn hole playing area and in where the bar is there re these fabulous hand carved large picnic style tables where you can pick from different childhood games to play all while you listen to live music, drink great beer and cider and play jenga or cards or dominos.... It's like hanging out at your own place! Bring snacks. Being your pups. Hang out with friends drink great drinks. Eat. Play and listen to music. Can't ask for a better Sunday Funday or any day at all. I will be going back here again.
google avatar

Alyssa L.

Yelp
The food menu is terrible with not much to choose from, they also aren't very family friendly so you should leave your kids at home or you'll be forced to leave with a manager watching you walk to your car.
google avatar

Gary H.

Yelp
Great taps, and not just IPAs! They have a large list, maybe 18-20 taps, plus Polar water, and a food truck. The food truck is a little pricey, and some of the items are questionable, but the Caprese is a must. Crispy flatbread smothered in pesto, tomato, mozzarella, and balsamic. Serious drinking food. Keep an eye out for the barn cats who usually hang out by the fans. Also nearby to frolf, and the orchard.
google avatar

Craig H.

Yelp
Great brewery tucked away with an awesome variety of beers. Friendly staff, unique area, and just great overall ambiance. Right down the road from Treehouse, you would be remiss if you did not check it out! The honey, red, ipa, and blondes are all great. The beers are incredibly smooth and the food is well priced and delicious. Also, they offer crowlers.
google avatar

Loretta S.

Yelp
Amazing. So much fun. My husband and I hit upon it with a stopover in Sturbridge. Seems like off the beaten path in the dark, but worth it. 40+ crew with dogs and live music...eagles, Fleetwood, van Morrison. Song alongs. Great Great atmosphere. And wonderful beers. Staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcomed...so do the patrons. Great decor ads to a relaxed atmosphere. Can't wait for Oktoberfest.
google avatar

Jocelyn G.

Yelp
Delicious! The cider is so good. The only things I'm sad about is the lack of food (which was made ok by the presence of a food truck that day) and that I couldn't get a growler of the cider to take home. Dogs are a-OK inside and the one inside when we were there was very well behaved. Hope to see them expand soon
google avatar

Scott E.

Yelp
Brought some Rapscallion back to San Diego. Tough keeping it cold in my suitcase but it was worth it to share the local taste of Sturbridge, Ma with these Californians

Yelp
This is a very cool place with a good vibe, especially in the summertime when they've got the live music playing on the patio. You could sit and enjoy the place for hours and not ever notice the time. We came here one summer late afternoon for some food and good beer. Both did not disappoint, and with the selection of pretty good beers on tap, you'll have to choose your favorite. The food was good, but perhaps we were expecting more. It was definitely better than your average pub food, which is always a pleasant surprise. Service was more iffy, with us waiting through nearly half of my meal for the waiter to come back and find out that my partner's meal had something she's allergic to that she specifically asked them to leave off (so she couldn't eat it while waiting for the waiter to check in on us). Frustrating, because this is Waiting 101 stuff. Given the service, I would've rated this place 3 1/2 stars, but of course I can't... so I rounded up, since wait staff can be variable in quality any place you go. It felt like as the evening wore on, there definitely wasn't enough waiters, as our waiter spent all of his time on a large party that had come in, completely neglecting us. Which was a shame, because it meant we had to wait 20 minutes to order dessert and wait on it to come... which is way too long when you're at a place like this. Could easily be 4 stars or more if they could get better waitstaff or drill the basics into them about ensuring their customers are happy in a timely fashion. We'll come again when we're in the area.

Yelp
Great beer, good food and an awesome Disc Golf course. Went here for a stop on my buddies bachelor party and we really enjoyed ourselves. The brewery is pretty small, the seating area as well, but the service and overall vibe of the environment/atmosphere really helped eliminate those issues. To be fair, its hard not to enjoy yourself whilst being around your friends and some beer. Plus, pups are also welcomed, so that alone makes me happy. The Disc Golf course (the main reason we came) was incredible, one of the biggest and toughest courses I have come across. Some parts wide open, others super narrow with heavily wooded areas (bring bug spray) make for a frustrating yet, fun challenge. I would love to see a couple of beer stands set up around the course, but that's just me! They also have a small pro-shop with a good amount of discs and other accessories to purchase. Disc Golf shops are very few and far between so it was nice to have a place to buys some extra discs. The food was typical pub style, but damn was it delicious. Very small menu the day we went, more of a finger food menu to be exact which is the only reason for the four star review. The manager promised the food trucks to be back in time for our planned bachelor party, yet they weren't coming until the following week... bit of let down but it didn't ruin our day by any means. Definitely will be returning. Great place for sure.
google avatar

Alexander J.

Yelp
The beer was excellent, the service was very prompt, the atmosphere was laid back and relaxed, the select was vast. Plus they have a disc golf course and they also have a nice banquet facility. Well done and will be returning very soon

Yelp
Went to Rapscallion Brewery after going to Treehouse and the line to get in was so long we decided not to stay. What a great little brewery. Great beers, chill vibe and dog friendly. My husband had a pint of the blonde and I had a pint of the Rye IPA, both delicious! Then we split a flight of the Honey, Blonde, Red and Double IPA, all equally as good. So glad we found this place after being turned off by the amusement park feel of Treehouse.
google avatar

Aimee M.

Yelp
So fun! We stopped by the tap room after a round of disc golf on their awesome new course. Great selection of beer, cool atmosphere, plenty of seating. We happened to pick a night with live music which made it even better! Would get five stars if it had a restaurant in house, but they allow you to bring in your own food.
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Great spot. My husband and I were up this way in May and had an amazing time and enjoyed the beers and atmosphere. Not to mention that we bought shirts and my husband's ended up being a bit small (he didn't try it on). He was disappointed so I contacted them when we got home and they were more than accommodating to exchange. I decided to still keep the other shirt and they took my order for the new one and shipped it out. Happy husband - priceless. Good beer, good ambience, good customer service. We'll be back on our next visit!

Yelp
Rapscallion is one of those places that doesn't excel at anything, yet somehow works really well. The taproom is located on a backroad well off the main drag in Sturbridge, yet seems to attract a steady crowd in the evening and frequently hosts live music. The taproom is cozy; there's a fireplace, lots of wood, and old beer trays decorating the walls. They don't serve food, but you can bring your own. Rapscallion brews quite a few beers, although most places will only have their signature honey ale(which isn't my favorite). The brewery carries all of them, most of which I prefer to the honey. While I don't think I've ever had anything bad here, their lighter beers and non-black IPAs are a bit bland for my tastes. What Rapscallion really does well are dark beers. The Black IPA, Porter, and Munich Dark are my go-to beers with the Black IPA being my favorite. It's very similar to the Porter, but with a noticeable hop bite. Rapscallion has a mug club so if you happen to live nearby and somehow don't know about this place, you should join.

Yelp
Out of the 5 breweries I went to in 2 days this had my personal favorite. The pizza was from a truck and was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. Has an outdoor patio to hang out on as well. This place was awesome!
