Where to Find Unexpected Flavors in Dallas-Fort Worth | Eater

"Bibliophiles and whisky connoisseurs will be hard-pressed to find a better destination for a night out than Rare Books Bar. The Frisco speakeasy carries a head-spinning array of rare whiskies from around the world — including Highland Park 17 Year Ice Edition, which offers notes of fresh pineapple, ripe mango, and ginger root along with the familiar warmth of peat smoke — for patrons to savor neat or in an Old Fashioned (rightly the bar’s specialty). Come for dinner and enjoy your drinks alongside an order of seared salmon with asparagus risotto or braised short rib gnocchi, and let the live jazz set the mood for the evening. First, though, you’ll have to get in: Step into the phone booth located at the entrance and dial up the librarian — the passcode is always a classic literary title, so brush up on your Austen and Dickens." - Susie Oszustowicz

This might now be my favorite Speakeasy that’s I’ve been too. The phone booth and password of their latest recommended novel make this place intriguing and unique. The atmosphere inside is even better and the bar tender and clientele add to the fun with create conversation and unique cocktails. Try something smoky. You won’t be disappointed. And if you’re hungry, the lobster bowl is especially delicious. Enjoy and cheers 😉😊🍸

INSANE. Jesus was amazing! Everything he recommended was so delicious. Drinks were so well crafted I got the Tea Blossom Sunrise and it was the best drink I’ve had in a WHILE. Food was amazing 💯 the Shrimp Diablo blew my mind I ordered it extra spicy and it did not disappoint!! Sauce was GLOSSY and perfectly coated the pasta 🤤 INCREDIBLY FLAVORFUL. Will be back 💕

Google
Absolutely the most perfect date night spot! J. Theodore is known for its espresso martini, but Rare Books has to be known for its grown-up, speakeasy vibes! My date and I truly had an amazing time in this dark grownup club!

Google
This place is simply amazing. Excellent live music (Frank Sinatra vibes) and service. The atmosphere in general is very enjoyable for dates. The speakeasy It’s inside the restaurant. The place has seating for about 10 tables and bar, it gets pack pretty easy and fast. The food menu is the same as the restaurant, but i believe the drinks menu expands significantly. They have a great selection of Whisky (3 pages menu) if you are a fan. The food was very well sized and fresh, the flatbreads were a popular choice. The dessert is the only item I would not recommended, it was just OK. Parking was a bit of a hassle because the area is popular, but I will say it depends on times. They do have happy hour from 3-6pm, I believe 6 days a week (in the restaurant side)

Google
Great live music and an amazing list of whiskey! So many it’s hard to pick a favorite, just like your favorite Spice Girl! Kidding! You know Posh is your favorite. Cocktails are hand crafted, well balanced, and as awesome as the Oxford comma I just used. You won’t regret going here!

Google
Awesome atmosphere. You are really taken back to an era of mob bosses and coppers. The food was delicious and the drinks were even better. I had probably the best Italian creme cake I've had since I was a child. Our waiter was also a great server and helped us with every request and question we had. I highly recommend this place!

So ... I'm no stranger to modern speakeasies, so I was thrown off coming here. I unknowingly came at the last call. This place closes early for a Saturday night. I want to give it leeway because it's Frisco ... it's called a speakeasy though? Usually, musicians play until close. Not at this place. Usually, I can sit at a table and order a drink. Not at this place; I was told that I won't be seated at an available table and to go to the bar. I can understand if I asked to sit at the bar to avoid waiting for a table, which is what I do at restaurants, but eating at a speakeasy is foreign to me and I would assume the kitchen is closed. The pictures repeatedly show a solo guy with a guitar. I was hoping that the impression was false and that I would hear jazz. Oh well, I wouldn't know because the live music stopped an hour before closing. Ultimately, the experience I had in mind was sitting at a table with a cocktail and listening to live jazz music. This wasn't it. I question whether this place embodies a speakeasy (sans Prohibition and other underground proclivities) or whether "speakeasy" is just a marketing ploy ... to advertise "ambiance, vibes and a large whiskey menu to a refined crowd"?

Google
This place was awesome. The food was good but not great however the drinks were out of this world. Service (Ashley) was on top of things and always made sure you had a full drink. The live music was awesome as well. Totally recommend

Yelp
We decided to try something new and were intrigued by this speakeasy, so we made a reservation for a Saturday evening and found the password on their website. We really enjoyed their library theme! From the menus to the secret bookshelf entrance and the bar itself. It was a well-thought-out and executed idea! The bar had a chill, laid-back vibe, which we enjoyed, along with their massive selection of whiskeys. We decided to go with tequila though, so we ordered a Paloma and The Escape, along with their truffle Parmesan fries. The drinks were excellent and arrived very quickly, but after that, our waiter started bartending, so it took about half an hour for him to return and take our dinner orders. Other than that, everything was great. Once we placed our order, the food arrived quickly, and we were thoroughly pleased with our life choices. Oh, and the live music was a nice touch! It got crowded quickly, so I recommend arriving before the dinner rush and placing a reservation beforehand. Looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Check their IG or website for the password Enter through the restaurant and use the phone booth to call and they'll ask for what book you want to check out today. HUGE selection of whiskeys, bourbons, scotch Can't go wrong with a dirty martini and their blue cheese olives Presentation is beautiful. Vibes are cute. Small parties only. And apparently they also take reservations. I didn't get to see the WHOLE bar as it was closed off for a private event, but cute space.

Yelp
I've been here before a couple times and was always great. The ambience was great. Guy playing guitar and singing was on point. I was there again a few days ago and took exceptionally long time for server to come by. I had to waive my hand to get attention after extended wait. We order drinks and service was so slow I asked for check when got the first drinks. Server charged me 64 for menu price 30 dollar drink. He said oh it's a new menu and I'll comp that for you. Then comes back and charges me 34 which was still higher than menu price. Bad service evening 7/3. If wasn't for ambience and great music I'd rated a 2 Star.

Yelp
As a lover of books and Libraries, the concept of this bar was almost a dream come true. Ive had this place saved for a long time and I finally was able to visit it on 7/17/25, excited to hear the live performance and enjoy my time. I came alone and sat at the bar, and was completely ignored by the bar tender for a good 10 mins. No acknowledgement of my presence, no "i'll be right with you", no greeting, no eye contact, nothing. There was 3 other people at the bar who eventually left, then I was the only one left. Even being the only one at the bar, I was still ignored. I eventually left and took my business elsewhere. I gave 2 stars instead of 0 because of the concept and live performance.

Yelp
SO FUN! I found this place for our date night & it did not disappoint! Climbing into the phone book & relayi g the secret book title* to enter was fun & surprising my hubby as the library wall slid open was a treat. We chose a high top table near the bar so we'd be able to enjoy the live music later that evening. The Whiskey, Scott & Tequila menus are vast! I don't enjoy any of those & was delighted by their special drinks menu as well. We started with a Scotch Flight for him, a Hick Fin for me & the Bacon & Eggs to share. The service was sublime, thank you Kris! He made great food & drink suggestions & neve rushed us. He was kind & joyful which were delightful. For our mains we chose the Korean Steak Tacos for him & the Spicy Shrimp & Bacon Flatbread w/no cheese for me. Both were tasty & a great portion. The Flatbread itselft was more crispy than I normally like, not soft but had decent flavor. The bacon & avocado were plentiful and the shrimp were tasty! The Tacos were okay. The tortillas didn't taste freshly made, but we're fine & the meat was flavorful. Not sure he'd order it again he said. Waiting for the live music we both ordered one more drink as "dessert". I enjoyed the Brown Sugar Bourbon Espresso Martini & my hubby enjoyed his Colombian Old Fashioned. We stayed for a while longer & enjoyed the live music. We would definitely come back! The ambiance, service, drinks & live music were stellar. The food was good, not amazing, but we'd both try something different next time. *check their social pages for the secret book of the week

Yelp
I've been to the rare books bar twice now and it's always been a great experience. This cool speak easy (check their insta for the daily code) is hidden behind a bookshelf in another restaurant. Lift the receiver on the phone booth and as the librarian for the correct book. The ambiance is amazing. Very classy and perfect for a date night. The food and drinks are incredible. Especially their smoked old fashioned's

Yelp
Love this place! A speakeasy bar with books and good drinks. It gets filled quickly and is first come first serve so be prepared for that, but a great place to hangout with friends or a date. I tried their Negroni and loved it. The drinks here are really good!
google avatar

Mikhael W.

Yelp
What a blast! Great after dinner spot for you and bae, you and your girls/boys, you and yours truly...doesn't matter....this would be fun for just about whoever! Get there early so you can grab a seat! Some of the best live music performances you've seen...why pay $80 for lawn seats at dos Equis when you're front and center here?! The drinks are nothing to play with. Well balanced craft cocktails...endless choices. Don't let the price tag of the shots discourage you for they come with a mega punch!! Try them! I digress. This place is awesome. Get there early and be ready to have an enjoyable evening!

Yelp
Absolutely loved the experience at speakeasy! It gets busy and bustling though, however the drinks are amazing!

Yelp
Came here on a recommendation from an industry friend and hoping to give it another shot, but disappointed in the first experience. Service was VERY slow for our table of 2 on a Saturday night reservation. Drinks took much too long to arrive and then arrived with the incorrect drink order. After a disagreement with the server about what should/shouldn't be in a drink compared to what the menu says, the drink was replaced and removed from the bill. Appetizers left a lot to be desired (flavorless and no attempt at presentation) however, the entrees were delicious! Additionally the Speakeasy concept is really cool. Great Whiskey selection and cool vibe in the bar. The manager was aware of the initial service issues and provided a discount on the bill which was much appreciated. Looking forward to giving them a second chance!

Yelp
Super cool speak ez - go to the telephone booth, they're supposed to ask you for the password which you can find from their IG or someone at the front will tell you. Door opens and there you'll find a cozy warm bar space perfect for really any situation. Drink selection/bartenders are nice, pricey but you're paying for the experience (and Frisco tax lol).
google avatar

Jacky C.

Yelp
Fabulous atmosphere, food, drinks, and entertainment! And, there's a twist --you have to know the "secret" and whisper it into the phone just to get into the speakeasy side of the restaurant. It's like combining dinner/drinks with a fun game. I'd go more often, but it's almost a 2-hour drive. Hoping something similar opens up on my side of the metroplex one day.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE! This speakeasy is such a cute idea - the library theme is so fun! They regularly have live music, and due to the size of the space, it feels really cozy and intimate. I love how they break up their (extensive) cocktail menu by liquors so you can focus on the drinks you'll enjoy rather than looking at every description. If you want to order food, you can look at and order from the J Theodore menu, which has everything from appetizers to slices of cake! The service is generally pretty consistent and it's not too loud that you can't hold a conversation inside the bar. The only downside is that it can get pretty busy, and tables don't flip quickly due to the live music and more relaxed nature of the establishment. Expect a 1.5+ hour wait on Fri/Sat nights.
google avatar

Marlen J.

Yelp
Rare Books Bar is inside J Theodore restaurant which is a bit hard to find as a first timer without reading reviews. I randomly came across this place from a friends recommendation. Although I did not order food, they make a very good, chilled dirty martini. We went on a Friday night and there's was a bit of people. In order to get in you have to tell the librarian a book, which they post the name of the book on Facebook. The night we went the live entertainer was amazing and interacted with the audience. The service was fast and attentive and overall it's hard to find a unique experience like this even in Dallas. I had a great time that I would consider driving 40minutes to this place again.
google avatar

Resha D.

Yelp
This is such an awesome sophisticated space! To enter you have to use the telephone booth inside of J. Theodore and say the password which I found on their Instagram. We went on a Saturday night so of course there was a bit of a wait but it was totally worth it! Also be prepared to do some walking as this area is pretty popular and parking can be difficult to find. We sat at the bar close to the live performer and honestly it was so nice. It wasn't obnoxiously loud and he had a really great set list and made our visit that much more enjoyable. The drinks are definitely a little pricey but very well concocted. We shared the fried chicken sandwich which they split for us and put on separate plates. Was not blown away by the food but wouldn't mind trying something else on the menu. The drink menu is fairly extensive and we are looking forward to getting back and trying something new! Also want to shout out the two ladies who were bartending.. they stayed busy the whole time we were there and were so kind with recommendations.
google avatar

Yelp
Rare Books has become our favorite date night spot, and it's an absolute delight! Our initial visit here was entirely serendipitous. We wanted to try J Theodore because we learned that they have the cakes from the now closed Bonnie Ruth's (best carrot cake ever)! We showed up without a reservation, but they had no open tables and suggested we try their speak easy. My husband's eyes lit up when they told him to go to the phone booth and then a secret sliding door opened. Inside felt just magical, particularly the first time. We were there on a Wednesday and the live music was Sinatra/Rat Pack style. The singer has great stage presence and loves to interact with the crowd in a fun way. Their smoked old fashioned is one of the best in town. The espresso martini was another favorite. They serve the complete menu from J Theodore and food is great.

Yelp
Very nice speakeasy in Frisco. I was pleasantly suprised by this place. You will need the password to get in. The atmosphere is very laid back and cozy which is very much appreciated. They have live music (maybe depending on day) we came on a Saturday night and they had a great guy performing. I had the mezy-coco and I definitely recommend. Super subtle and delicious. Customer service was top notch. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Natalie K.

Yelp
I have been here several times. It never disappoints. The bourbon and scotch varieties are unmatched. There's something for everyone. Sometimes they have a performer in the front room, since it's such a small space you will not be able to hear your partner talk. We usually sit in the in the other room if there is a performer so that we can have a conversation.. it is best to call for a reservation just to make sure that you get a table and you're not waiting. It's very cozy and a great date night destination.
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
First, how can you beat a speakeasy? It's the epitome of fun, adventure, and secrecy for an adult night out. Second, absolutely stunning and well kept. It was small enough to feel intimate but large enough to feel like you had space and weren't cramped together with others. The drinks were delicious and I was able to make changes to my salad to make it vegan and the waitress was very accommodating to make sure it would be addressed and my dietary needs met. She was so sweet! The cherry on top was the live music of a gentleman singing classic songs- jazzy, classy, and elegant. This is the place to bring someone to impress them with your taste.
google avatar

Jenny C.

Yelp
I was looking forward to trying this place because I have already been to the J. Theodore and it's nice to think we have a speakeasy local in Frisco. I was disappointed because it didn't feel very speakeasy-ish at all. We obtained the password before arriving. Once we arrived, there were a few people in front of us who had already asked to go in and we were just told to go ahead and follow them. We went through a pretty large service door that was already open with a giant Christmas tree leading to the space l. There was nothing that really created illusion you were swept into into another place, especially since they kept that door open the entire time. The tables are really tight, city style, so be prepared to be close to your neighbors. We sat at the bar and the barstools are unusually short. Not a huge deal but something we noted. I got the Mexican 75 which was slightly sweet, but it was boozy and tasty. I had had no complaints. The bartenders were really nice and accommodating. I ended up getting the Korean beef tacos and they were able to make two of the three as a lettuce wrap and the last one with a regular tortilla. The beef is a little bit greasy, but other than that it tasted fine. Since I switched two of the tacos to lettuce wraps, there was no flour tortilla to soak up the grease from the beef, which is probably why I experienced that. It came with an elote salad, which didn't have a ton of flavor. Hubby had the prime sandwich which was tasty and the horseradish sauce had a nice flavor to it. If we came back, it would just be to the J. Theodore since the menu and the drinks are the same.

Yelp
What a great unique place! It's connected to a restaurant, we ate at the restaurant after we made our reservation through the phone booth and received our wait time! The food was above average but the ambiance is really what gives this place 5 stars! There was live music, dark environment, and fancy delicious drinks! Hopefully my videos and pics do it justice but I am definitely going back because this place is just too "Me" not to go back! I'd say it's definitely worth going at least once and the price isn't bad actually! Ok now bye bye then!

Maria G.

Yelp
Took my niece there to celebrate her 21st. We wanted something nice and chill and that was the vibe! Our server John was great and attentive. Definitely a nice spot to have a date too!

Andy A.

Yelp
We went last night 4-17-25. The doorman saw us coming and just punched the code and let us in. We wanted the full experience of a speakeasy- not an overpriced bar. The music was good but didn't fit for the theme of a speakeasy. The room was so loud we could barely hold a conversation. The service was OK We didn't eat having just come from dinner. In the end we missed experiencing the fantasy of a speakeasy and were left disappointed. Stick to your shtick.
google avatar

Tom R.

Yelp
Beautiful decor and an interesting place to bring guests when they are in town. The food is great and the drinks are over the top.
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
What a fun spot. I loved the whole thing around calling from the phone and using the password. We were a little squished, but the space is tiny. It's very pretty though. The drinks were tasty, but the price point was high. Good selection of whiskies. The cheese board was huge and good. Tuna tacos were ok. I will definitely come back.
google avatar

Ann A.

Yelp
I enjoyed my time here. Ashley our server was very nice and helpful. Nice vibe, cool atmosphere and ambiance. Food was pretty good. I'd definitely come back. Glad there's a spot like this in Frisco that's more adult oriented.

Yelp
Rare books is my favorite speakeasy in the Dallas area. Every cocktail is meticulously crafted with "The Escape" being my personal favorite with a great cucumber flavor. You also can't go wrong with the food - I'd recommend any of the flat breads. My favorite feature of this spot is the live music they have every night. There is a guy who sings some great Frank Sinantra on Wednesday nights. The bar tender Jordan will also take great care of you and is a great resource for recommendations. I'll be back many more times!
google avatar

Rae M.

Yelp
Love this cozy and fun little hidden area! The drinks were great, food was tasty, live music was fabulous, and the service was fantastic. 100% coming back and will recommend to friends.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
My cocktail was really good and the ambiance in here was so cozy....we did not order the food which is good bc those prices were for real redonkulous. Cocktails were expensive too but at least they were strong! This was my first experience at a speakeasy because I had dismissed them as a silly gimmick. I still think they're a silly gimmick, but I'm no longer dismissing them.

Jazzy J.

Yelp
Loved this place! Such a cute, quaint speak easy joint in Dallas. The drinks and the CAKE ahmazing!
google avatar

Amanda R.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this place! It's hidden inside a restaurant. You go into a phone booth and pick up the phone. The librarian will ask you what book are you checking out today and you have to respond with the password. Then, a bookcase will move and you can go into the speakeasy. The book decor was cool! The drink menu was multiple pages..so many options. The drink presentation was on point. The bartenders were awesome! Food was amazing. We split the wagyu burger French style with truffle fries. Live music on Friday started at 7:30 pm. It got packed! We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Natalie K.

Yelp
It's called rare. Keep it Rare-ly accessible by peeps bcos ambiance and food is so great anytime u go there it's fully booked.
google avatar

Greg R.

Yelp
Tell my wife and I we can't sit at the table by to bookcases because it was only for larger parties. Then sit parties of two in those same tables is not cool at all. The manger who made this call needs some common sense. I've been here before and I've always seen those tables with a couple of couples. Sweet baby jesus, there was no need to force us to sit at a tiny table we didn't want.
google avatar

LaTondra L.

Yelp
Great hidden find! Looking for a last minute date night and remembered this place was on our "to try" list. Walked into J. Theodore and there was the red phone booth. Used the magic book of the week) and magically the door slid open and we entered the speakeasy. Super cute, dark, date night, girls night out vibe. Warning - they don't take reservations and on a Friday night at 6 there was already a 45 min wait but we got lucky and scored 2 seats at the bar, which was perfect because we were going for drinks and apps only. Bartenders were busy but friendly. We had an old fashioned and smashed Cherry Bourbon (x2) and the J. Theodore charcuterie board. The vibe was nice, drinks strong, and board tasty. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Ryan N.

Yelp
Such a fun place - first come first serve though! No reservations! :( Food - delish! Cocktails - they know what they're doing! Live music - it was there when I went and the duo was awesome! Definitely come check this place out! I cannot wait to come back again! 2 thumbs up from me! :)

Yelp
Okay so this place is pretty cool! I'm not going to lie, there's a door that really made it seem like you were supposed to knock and then you get the whole sliding eye hole thing with a mobster guy behind the door asking for the password. But don't do that... there will be a woman very confused that you aren't the band and why you are knocking on the door. You have to call ahead of time (no reservations) and get the book name that works as a password, and then go inside the building (you'll see the book shelves in the window) and pick up the phone in the phone booth to give the aforementioned confused woman the password. Then the book shelf will open and you can step inside. Once you get in, it's pretty dark so the vibe is very intimate. Which was perfect for my get together with the bros. Lol, but for real it's fine. There's a huge whisky list that changes from week to week which is nice that it's apparently updated, BUT what that means is that if you go online and see George T Stagg on the menu online, it may not actually be on the menu when you get there. However they do have a good list of bourbon, scotch, Irish, and Japanese whiskey so there will be something to suit your fancy. Are the prices relatively reasonable though? Maybe not as much but your going to a speakeasy because alcohol is prohibited right? Got to pay the moonshine runners. I wasn't a big fan of the actual cocktails to be honest which I was surprised by. My Negroni was fine, but that's a pretty safe choice. Smoke on an old fashioned is a neat look but it doesn't make a 6 into a 10. The food however was incredible. I ordered the short rib gnocchi and it was absolutely fantastic. Caroline did a good job taking care of us on the service side. Overall it was a great experience, but there's room to improve with respect to the cocktails.
google avatar

Benita T.

Yelp
So my friends and I are on a speakeasy tour and ran across this place on Instagram. I know the whole point of a speakeasy is for it to be exclusive. I won't give the key information away but I will talk about the drinks and food. I ordered the tacos and had the Blossomed Rose Lemonade drink. Overall I enjoyed the tacos but I wished they were a little bit spicier. The drinks I tried were nice. The music and ambiance was great for a romantic dinner. I wasn't sitting in the main area but more in the corner right when you walk in. I suggest if you are looking for a nice place to go for date night that you give this place a try.
google avatar

Yelp
Can you say great drinks? I absolutely love speakeasy bars and so happy to find them opening up all over the metroplex. We came here on a Thursday night for drinks. I used Instagram to find the password. Got to the phone booth & dial, give the hostess the password (absolutely just love the whole concept) She asked how many is in the group, we said two. Secret door pops open and we walked in. Got seated at the bar. Ambiance was great! It's super tiny, but I expected that since it's a speakeasy. There was live music, so it was a bit hard to hear each other. I just love the huge variety of the drink menu. They must have whiskies from all over the world. Their old fashioned was amazing! Cocktails options were great! I'll be returning!

Yelp
What a little gem I ran into. First location didn't pan out and I yelped a bar around the Frisco area. Drove to the location but it was hidden inside a restaurant. I went through the process, which I don't want to spoil to get in and boy was this a little heaven. The speakeasy had a great vibe, great company, great service, and great drinks. Might I recommend the Lavender Lemon Drop. Insane. I've been back twice and it doesn't get old. The people I bring love it.

Yelp
This place is simply amazing. Excellent live music (Frank Sinatra vibes) and service. The atmosphere in general is very enjoyable for dates. The speakeasy It's inside the restaurant. The dessert is the only item I would not recommended, it was just OK.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
If you love Bourbon, this is your new spot! One of the best selections I've seen with frankly some reasonable prices per pour. Unfortunately for me, this place was a little bougey for me. But not an uncomfortable amount of bougey either lol. Enough so that I'd definitely come back. I don't know if I would also call this place a speak easy either. Nothing really hidden going on here. But there's a great ambience inside and the customer service was pretty on point. My wife and I are eating vegan at the moment and was pleasantly surprised to see that we could make vegan versions out of some of their offerings. The Avocado Toast (no feta) was very scrumptious. The fried Brussels Sprouts, no Parmesan, according to my wife, was the best she ever had. The Portobello Mushroom Tacos, no crema, tasted very meaty and were very filling. And the Truffle Fries, no parm, we're a nice surprise too. Haven't eaten anything truffle flavored in quite a while. If you're in the area and looking for a place to enjoy a little romantic ambience, this is your place.

Yelp
Stopped back in last night to rare books bar, had a great time. My friend ordered a really cool drink that came with a whole presentation. They had an amazing Duo setup and had great music. We order the lobster in the jar, meatballs and the social dips. All delicious.

Yelp
Wow this is a fun little place! Came here for my wife's birthday! Hidden room and a common visited frisco restaurant. Need the password and you make a phone call I. The phone booth and they confirm the password and party size and let you in. The lighting is dim and moody. The live music is a respectable volume where you can still talk and not have to shout across the table and that was next to the performer! Food and drinks were delicious! Service is amazing! Wife had the short rib gnocchi and I have the wagu burger and fresh salad. Sale was fresh as can be and vinaigrette was very fragrant! Wife's gnocchi was Souter savory and comforting of a dish! Burger was made "French style" with added jalapeños and was savory and spicy in all the best ways. Cocktails were smooth and the Smokey old fashion smoked table side was very smooth! Plates we're about $1-$2 more than the main restaurant but you do pay for the limited seating and superior service!

Yelp
Stopped in after dinner in the restaurant. Drinks were limited but good. I wanted one I had in the restaurant but it was not available. By the reaction of my host, I believe the prices were hefty. We sat in the library area which is more suitable for conversation versus the music room. Overall, very enjoyable.

Yelp
This speakeasy is very cute and a great place for a date night. When you enter the main restaurant to the right there is an old-school telephone booth where you pick up the handle and give them the password in order to enter into the rare books library bar. They have live music almost every day of the week, the food is fantastic, and the ambiance and vibe reminds me of the cozy restaurants in New York.

Yelp
Very cool concept. You need to know the "password" which is on their Facebook page. It is always a title of a classic book. You pick up the phone inside J Theodore and say the password and the secret door opens. The food is good, it's the same as J. Theodore, but the impressive thing is the drink menu. It has an incredible whisk(e)y list and some nice cocktails. The service was actually mediocre. The waitress had to come back twice to ask what drink I ordered, and the main courses came out before we were done with the appetizer, which made the small table very crowded and it was a little difficult to balance all the plates on the table. That being said, we will definitely go back!

Yelp
Amazing food, warm and inviting atmosphere. Smoked old fashionds so good! Must try the lobster in a jar!

Yelp
Finally made the trek out here a few months ago and had a lot of fun. Their cocktails are well balanced and I LOVE their spirits list. We were sat at a table right by the music (which was great) so it was a little hard to have a conversation. Server was friendly and prompt and gave some good recommendations. Wish this place wasn't so far from home.

Yelp
Great overall experience. Even trying to find the phone booth was amazing. The food didn't disappoint either. I had the lobster in a jar, ahi tuna, and the seafood pasta. It was delightful. The live music was a great touch and definitely set the right mood and tone for the evening. Great ambience!
