Yelp
I am giving this place a 4.5 star out of 5; 5 stars for the food and 4 stars for the doh doh service.
The quality of food here is superb. However, service needs some work. Staff were friendly, but they made quite a few mistakes. For example, when we wanted to order Brussel sprouts, our waiter told us it's only on the Happy Hour menu and that he recommends their asparagus, which "is just as good." But we were more in the mood for potatoes, so we ordered the potato au gratin. He then asked what type of potatoes "whipped or scalloped?" We chose scalloped with black truffles and he even acknowledged by saying, "you got it."
Then ASPARAGUS arrived at our table.
The second issue was our water was Peligrino (Sparkling) water. A waitress came to try to "refill" our water and started to fill the glass with regular tap water after failing to see the large glass Pelegrino bottle on the table. We then told her it's Pelegrino and she stopped so abruptly, spilling water all over the table.
I then went to the restroom to get cleaned up only to find out that they ran of toilet paper. At least the soap smelled nice.
As for the food...
1. Parker House Roll (4/5):
It was doughy, airy, buttery, garlicky and parsley. It was served in a nice cast iron skillet. Minus 1 star because we did not taste the truffle in the butter.
2. Asparagus (5/5)
Although, we did not order it, we ate the while thing nonetheless. It was cooked to perfection. Crispy yet not overcooked or oakey. The seasoning was very good- mix of spring onion vinaigrette, xo mayo, and crunchy garlic bits.
3. Roasted Mushrooms (3/5):
Rubbery, and under-seasoned. The egg yolk added a nice creaminess, but otherwise, we couldn't taste the garlic or thyme.
4. The Associate Board (5/5)
3 cuts of meat that varies each day, based on the chef and meat availability.
-Wagyu Tri-tip
-Filet Mignon
-Dutch beef (or something like that??)
Our favorites were the Dutch beef cut and the filet mignon as they were very tender and flavorful even without the sauces. The sauces are all housemade - salsa, some citrus mayo dip, and the 3rd sauce was some mix of ponzu-miso (tart like sauce). It also came with a side of bone marrow for extra fat. There was also garlic butter, but we did both use it.
Additional training for the staff would be good, otherwise, food was great and worth the price.
