Polished steakhouse serving traditional & Japanese cuts, cocktails

"A very good example of a ritzy casino steakhouse at Encore Boston Harbor, this spot serves about every style of steak one could imagine in a large room that is very beige (it’s a miss for maximalists, but your outfit will pop), tastefully lit, and, if you know your higher-end casinos, very familiar. The best way to sample its range is the New York strip tasting ($180), which is three three-ounce cuts: Kansas-based Creekstone Farms prime, American wagyu, and Japanese wagyu. The mighty 16-ounce boneless grass-fed rib-eye, also from Creekstone, is cooked to order (we suggest medium rare) and is a very nice cut ($82). It’s steakhouse law that you have to get a potato as a side, and you should absolutely get the excellent Yukon Gold potato puree ($17), which has all the gooey elasticity of aligot. Finish your meal with a rich slice of chocolate cake ($19), with speculoos crunchy layers, and vanilla whiskey ice cream, because even if you didn’t win at the slots, you deserve it. While it definitely gets a lot of diners from the casino, it’s a destination for a dressy date night or night out with friends." - Tanya Edwards
"Rare Steakhouse — located inside Encore’s luxury resort and casino — is a perfect place to take those casino winnings after a particularly lucky afternoon. There are lots of opportunities to go big here, including the wagyu tartare, a colossal shrimp cocktail, and the 40-ounce dry-aged tomahawk. For a more low-key meal or an after-dinner nightcap, head to the next-door Rare Lounge." - Erika Adams
"Rare Steakhouse — located inside Encore’s luxury resort and casino — will be hosting diners looking for a meaty respite on Christmas Day from 3 to 10 p.m. Rare will serve a three-course holiday menu featuring prime cuts of meat for $85 per person, and the casino will be decked out for the holidays, which means you can bet on a good time. Reservations can be made here." - Tanya Edwards
"As the white-tablecloth, more glamorous sibling at Encore Boston Harbor, Rare Steakhouse presents a formal dining experience that leans into spectacle: its menu is described as too fancy to list prices online and it features tableside theater such as a baked Alaska set aflame. I understand it expects a more drawn-out, upscale meal compared with Medium Rare, positioning itself as the hotel's high-end, white-tablecloth affair." - Erika Adams
"Megan Vaughan is the incoming executive chef at Encore Boston Harbor’s Rare Steakhouse. She has previously worked for some of the country’s highest-profile restaurateurs." - Harry Cheadle
