"The char kway teow (smoky stir-fried flat noodles with pork and prawns) at Malaysian spot Rasa Sayang is a must-order. Everything else on the menu (like the beef rendang) is great as well. Whoever you bring to this bustling spot—a group of friends or just yourself at lunchtime—you’ll leave full and satisfied. The ground floor usually has some spots saved for walk-ins and the comfy booths are an ideal place to camp out for a couple of hours. But if you like being in the thick of it, then the smaller buzzy downstairs dining room is probably for you." - jake missing, heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Unlike most of the other dishes on this list, beef rendang is a dry curry. But what it lacks in sauce, it makes up for in slow-cooked beef that’s so unbelievably tender, there’s a strong argument for it to be classified as a liquid. At Rasa Sayang, a bustling Malaysian spot in Chinatown, you’ll find the kind of wholesome, nutty beef rendang you’ll crave at least once a month. The place is usually packed out, so make sure you book a table. Yes, even on a rainy Tuesday." - rianne shlebak, jake missing
"Rasa Sayang recently had a bit of a revamp and moved around the corner to Frith Street and the good news is that it’s still just as delicious. This Malaysian spot offers reliably tasty char kway teow and Hainanese chicken rice all for under a tenner, without discount. There are plenty of vegetarian options too, like morning glory or sambal okra, and all in all it’s a guaranteed winner." - jake missing
"Rasa Sayang is a genuine anomaly. It makes DIY meal kits for one person. Not two-person jobs that are more like one and half. Nor enormous portions that you find yourself (somewhat regrettably) shovelling into your mouth at 11pm, because what was left ‘wasn’t enough for lunch anyway’. No, their beef rendang or curry chicken with rice, are actually for one person. Which is nice, isn’t it?" - jake missing
"Your order: Char kway teow - £10.50 The problem you’re going to have at Rasa Sayang is twofold. Firstly, the things you want are technically over £10. But we hope you’ll allow us this 50p leeway. Secondly, it’s what to eat. Salty and slippery char kway teow with pork and prawn? Buttery roti with a side of creamy and tender chicken curry? A wholly shovel action-worthy beef rendang? Once of Chinatown, the Malaysian spot is is now very much a favourite in the heart of Soho." - jake missing
