Rastrello Boutique Hotel (Panicale, Umbria) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"A 14th-century palazzo in the beautiful Umbrian village of Panicale, just about halfway between Florence and Rome, is the setting for Rastrello, which was a natural olive-oil farm first, and only later became a 12-room luxury boutique hotel. In the rooms, original architectural features like timbered ceilings are contrasted with modern elements like custom-designed contemporary furniture; the resulting atmosphere is timeless in that inimitably Italian way. Rastrello Cucina & Giardino serves hyper-local seasonal fare with a view of Lake Trasimeno, and, as you might imagine, makes liberal use of Rastrello’s own extra virgin olive oil." - Tablet Hotels

Whilst on holiday in a nearby village, we ate at Il Rastello restaurant 4 times. Once with an Italian friend and the other times just the two of us. Each time, we had amazing food. This is a truly excellent restaurant in a wonderful setting with a lovely terrace that has views across the surrounding countryside to Lake Trasimeno. The staff are really friendly, particularly Valentino, who helped us get the table we wanted at the front of the terrace. All the food we had was outstanding and their home made bread is delicious (we even bought some from their nearby shop). Compared to many other restaurants we went to this one was also reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Luckily I found this wonderful boutique hotel through their affiliation with Marriott. Beautifully restored palazzo in the charming hilltop town of Panicale. I felt like I lived there. Our junior suite was amazing with a lake and countryside view. The owners were also very present and they and their staff were so accommodating. This is one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. I will return.

Lovely grounds and room, friendly staff! Only downside was dirty glasses in room, the coffee maker wouldn’t work for breakfast and the food for aperitivo and breakfast was lacking. Otherwise a brief one day stay was good to have relaxing accommodations.

A truly magical stay in the heart of Umbria. The hotel is beautifully restored, blending charm, comfort, and authenticity. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff for their warmth, care, and genuine hospitality.

This property is a 5 Star place all the way. The staff is amazing, the rooms are tastefully done, the free wine is a plus. So glad we decided to stay here for two nights. Highly recommend making this a stop on your trip to Italy. It’s a small property which makes it so special. But their olive oil too.

The photos do not do this property justice. First, there are only 7 rooms in this hotel so it is more like staying in an estate. The property is located in a tiny town, a bit far away up in the mountains. The mini castle (for a lack of a better word) is newly renovated and the architect and designers did an absolutely fabulous job. It is simply stunning! Every single detail from the stairs, railings, bathroom fixtures, bedding, everything is simply beautiful. They offer a continental breakfast in the mornings in the library and it is just so lovely. If the weather is nice there is a beautiful terrace. Our room had a balcony with the most beautiful view of Tuscany. My husband and I are both pretty picky about hotels and are most often disappointed but we absolutely didn’t want to leave this hotel. We will travel back to this region of Italy just to stay in this hotel again. The service was absolutely outstanding - as if you have your own butler. The restaurant was great, very informal and the food was delicious. The only thing this hotel is missing from being hands down our favorite of all time is a spa. Honestly, we would move in if we could :)

If you have a soft spot for old walled Italian villages set high above their local agrarian landscape, Rastrello is a lovely boutique hotel that makes its own EVOO, grows many of its own vegetables and crafts most of its breads. Food and wine selections are outstanding…had tons of fun working through the menu with nary enough time (nor room in my gastronomic garage.) The hospitality approach is very creative and thorough but relaxed and palate-centric. Design of the rooms and common seating areas are lovely, keeping with the local culture visually (mysteriously narrow stone stairways…), but I would guess Rastrello’s comfort and convenience is unmatched around town. Loved the warm, functional room/bathroom lighting…not to mention the friendly and capable set of lifetime locals running the place. Wonderful experience…

It is no secret Italy is facing a tourism crisis. The solution is exactly what the owners of this boutique hotel have done. Negotiating authentic Umbrian hospitality, culture and food with the modern luxury and attention to detail you expect from a Bulgari, Faena or Fasano property is not an easy task. Yet, the owners of this intimate property have succeeded. We met and had incredible unfiltered discussions with everyone from the owners , staff and locals. THe owners restored a property in jeopardy of decay, but included the local farms, artists and restauranteurs in the restoration. Currently, they are renovating an adjacent building to expand. |We arrived and could smell the air from the lake, fresh Cyprus and the harvest of olives to olive oil, and also charge our electric car! |We had dinner on property, our waiter Daniele like all their team is a local, informed, and understandably proud of the menu and wine offerings. |We enjoyed mingling with the other guests ..an international crowd, sans selfie stick influencers! what a relief! |Obviously I can only recommend a stay here. Unfortunately, our stay was a bit spontaneous. With a bit of advance planing the team here can help you organise a few local adventures, which we fully intend to do in the near future. |THANK YOU to the incredible team here for turning our stay into a memory.
