"The upper floor of the Rathfinny Wine Estate houses this smart, well-run restaurant that boasts lovely views over the vines. Drink it all in as you sip on one of the vineyard's own sparkling wines, accompanied by colourful sharing plates. Seasonal Sussex produce is the bedrock of the cooking, fashioned into dishes that prove to be both fresh and flavoursome. They also have bedrooms in The Flint Barns, a nearby farmhouse, while vineyard tours, tastings and special 'wine dinners' are also available." - Michelin Inspector

3 Vineyard Restaurants to Check Out in the U.K.

"Above Rathfinny Wine Estate’s wine and gin room, you’ll find a narrow restaurant boasting lovely views over the rolling Sussex Downs. Simple lunches are followed by set dinner menus themed around ‘Land,’ ‘Sea’ and ‘Garden.’ Cooking is clean and fresh with a creative modern element and is informed by seasonal Sussex produce. There’s a terrace for drinks and even bedrooms in a nearby farmhouse." - The MICHELIN Guide Nordic Editorial Team

Absolutely glorious location nestled in the rolling hills of the South Downs. For the price of the food, I was a little disappointed in the presentation and portion sizes. Loved the Hake and the Beef Fat crumpet dishes. Certainly less keen on the pirata. Also suggest offering a condiment for the otherwise plain fried potatoes.

The scenery is beautiful with fantastic views over the vineyard. The Tasting Room itself is well laid out with views over the vineyard. We were advised that the menu was a tapas style sharing menu. When presented with our food it was not suitable for tapas dining. We had to pour our gravy from the plate. The beef fat crumpet was delicious, as was the hake. The service was okay, but not as attentive for the price we paid. Wine was very nice though. I would not come again for food.

What can I say? I always love spending time in the vineyards — the landscape is so peaceful, and my taste buds are wide open to enjoy all the good food paired with wine. You truly feel disconnected from the city. We had the Turnworth cheese plate and the Brighton cured smoked salmon — everything was so fresh, served with warm bread and salted butter. Before that, we visited the small, charming shop and did a wine tasting with Corrine. She explained the whole concept so smoothly and simply that the session was a real pleasure! I definitely recommend coming here to explore and enjoy the full experience.

Absolutely stunning food! We came here for a roast dinner, as a large group and we had a starter and main with wine and extras. We could not fault the food it was amazing as was the wine! Stunning views and a gorgeous gift shop too.

We really enjoyed the wine tour, it was excellent. However, the hut experience was disappointing and definitely overpriced for what was offered. I paid £15.50 for stale crackers with just a few pieces of cheese, and another £15.50 for a baguette with five slices of salami and some cheese. The quality and presentation felt underwhelming and took away from an otherwise great experience. Improving the freshness, portion sizes, and presentation would make the hut offering much more enjoyable and worth the price.

A family birthday party took me to this lovely place. It is very special. The estate is vast, and you really feel you are in the heart of Rathfinny's winemaking empire. The buildings are not much to look at from the outside, but once in the dining room is bright, airy and looks out over the vineyards and the South Downs. A lovely setting. The food is divine; not a vast menu, but something for everyone, and prepared with local and other specialist producer produce in a way that made the meal seem very special indeed. Obviously the wines are local, and very good too. Save this for a special occasion and stay overnight in Alfriston, because you're worth it!

We started our visit with lunch at the Fliny Barn. Food and service was spot on with jazz playing in the background and great atmosphere, chilled and relaxing. We then attended the wine tasting. Our tour guide, Judith, was excellent with brilliant knowledge and presentation. The wine tasting followed a full on behind the scenes tour. Excellent sparkling wine, and we both learnt so much. The estate is wonderful with breathtaking views and a great place to relax and enjoy.

I had a lovely time on the wine tour. It was very fun to go through the whole experience from start to finish. I also enjoyed the lunch at Flint Barn; the roast beef was delicious. Lovely views, great company, and we were lucky with the weather!
