"Antje and Ronny Pester's charming restaurant is located in the town centre, in the wing of the town hall. In the cosy, tastefully decorated interior, they serve ambitious modern cuisine that follows the seasons – the fragrant tuna tartare, for example, is delicious. They serve a small à la carte selection Wed, Thu and Sun, and a set menu on Fri and Sat – a vegetarian version can be pre-ordered. The service is attentive and friendly, and the owner's wine suggestions are spot on. Lovely terrace to the rear of the building." - Michelin Inspector

I've been coming to Rothenburg for 25 years from the states because my wife is from here. It took me 25 years to stop in and it was very good. It is priced appropriately and not overpriced like many tourists locations. Food was good. I'm not going to exaggerate and say amazing but very good Bavarian meal at a low price point. Environment and service were 5 stars.

We ate here a couple of times and had good food and great service both times. Traditional kind of German fare but done nicely. No complaints. And you can't beat the location right on the square. Nice!

I’ve been living in Germany for over six years and have grown to appreciate German cuisine. Unfortunately, this restaurant was a letdown. The food lacked flavor, with watery sauces and bland meat. While the location is somewhat redeeming, it’s not enough to make up for the disappointing meal. I wouldn’t recommend dining here—there are definitely better options to explore elsewhere.

A great reasonably priced bite to eat with friendly and efficient service. We had the bratwurst, potato soup, and salad with chicken strips because I can’t eat any more pork today… Bratwurst was delish and the spaetzel was al dente and yummy. Salad was good with fresh grilled chicken on top.

Busy during lunch time and they had not many waitresses and waiters. Even though the outside seating was packed, service was OK and food was served in a timely manner. The pork knuckle was good. A dark beer is included with this dish if you chose it as a set meal. Enjoy the view while waiting for your meal or over a beer.

The atmosphere there is quite cosy and nicely, staff are helpful and friendly. Food are at reasonable price, I ordered the pork knuckle with beer , it only cost €17. But the food there is not really up to my taste. And the pork is very over cooked and become very dry .

Tried here schweinshaxe deal dish served together with small beer for 19 EUR. Was not good 🫤 so can not recommend, unfortunately, 😒. Meat was partly dry, definitely should not be! 😔 What positive is the service, helpful guy from Dominikana Rep. 👍 and... good price for draft beer 🙂

Yelp
We recently had lunch here, an ideal location in town to enjoy a meal while people watching in the bustling marktplatz. The restaurant has a fairly large indoor and outdoor seating area, and a decent amount of food options. We ended up ordering 2 chicken salads and a pork schnitzel. Lots of chicken with great flavor and various other toppings on the salad, as well as a nice, crispy schnitzel and fries, both cooked well. Although busy, the service was appropriately attentive. Nice spot, good food. :)

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. Frankely is a lively, cheerful, and attentive waiter. I would ask for him by name.

Yelp
We sat inside to escape the heat. The menu is moderately long, but I did have trouble getting enthusiastic about anything. I ended up with the Sauerbraten (with dumplings and red cabbage.) It tasted just like I expected it would ... just not what I was looking for. Dessert was better, the Schokoroyal, a chocolatey layer cake. Service was ok, though occasionally hard to find.

Yelp
I believe this excellent traditional Franconian hof deserves much higher rating than what it currently shows. Unlike some of the folks who really didn't have good food experience here, we had a great dining experience for our Saturday lunch! For one thing, it offers a great location in the center of the Old Town (Marketplatz) right across from the old Rathaus (City Hall). You just can't beat the location in terms of convenience and central location in this quaint medieval town. Several criticism I read were about this place being a tourist-trap due to its location. You just can't fault them for that. It has a proud history of being the main restaurant in town. It even served the King of Denmark, Christian I, in 1474 according to their website. The atmosphere is definitely mittelalterliche "Middle Ages" with knight's armor, swords, and muskets on display as well as deer racks and mounted boar heads, etc. It also gives out certain "hunting lodge" feel. Service was excellent. Our young server was very attentive in spite of being very busy during lunch time on Saturday. I think I only counted three servers for about 30 tables, so they were very busy. Food was also excellent. Franconian food tends to be very hearty and heavy--basic comfort food in American terms, therefore, it's not for everyone to enjoy. So, in my humble opinion, Ratsstube has a great location, food and service. What more could you ask for?

Yelp
Others have said it and it couldn't be more true: this place is a tourist trap in a very good location, that's about all one needs to know. Started off with a goulash, which was one of the worst I've had, tasted like something that just came out of a can. With that alone, I just can't give them a better rating. Continued with Leberknodel, German liver dumplings. As this was my first time trying to dish, I cannot comment how it is relative to other preparations, but I did not enjoy it. Hard to pinpoint if it was the preparation or simply a matter of taste. Finished off the meal with an apfelstrudel. Pretty decent, but much better tasting strudels around. Other than the view, the other nice portion of the establishment is that they accept credit cards, which is oddly atypical during our week long journey across Germany. Service was a typical adventure of flagging down the waitress in order to get something.

Yelp
The best place in Rothenburg, period!!! Take it from a local. The food is to die for. Try the game and cordon bleu with a weizen beer. The staff is great, ask about the basement!!

Yelp
Eh... Not the best meal while in Germany and not the worst. I do have a hard time finding food since I don't eat pork but there were a few options that looked possible. But... no potato pancakes today so the spinach pastry pie was it. Far too soupy with mushy spinach for my liking. My wife got the jagersnitzel but it was half cooked. We found ourselves Google-ing what can happen from eating undercooked pork. As soon as the waitress saw the meat she knew it wasn't cooked as well. The location of this restaurant is what's going for it. It's right there in town. Try to branch out a bit further and see what there is!

Yelp
First things first... Location: it can't be beat in town. People watch to your heart's content and enjoy the coming and goings of the square. Beers: pricey, but good. I'm expecting to pay more for the real estate versus somewhere on a side street. Understood. There's less on tap, than other places in town, and they don't have their own brew house. Food: I didn't order anything, so can't judge here. However, the service here was terrible and I can't bring myself to give the Ratsstuben more than two stars due to this. The waitress here was the worst I had during my last trip to Germany. I don't think she smiled or offered a helpful word once. She seemed annoyed when we spoke in German, or in English - I don't know another language to try. We didn't order food, so at first I felt a little bad taking up seats outside, but the tables weren't all full in the middle of the afternoon, and a couple shared ours later when they arrived. We were definitely a low maintenance table, but our waitress made it seem like we were the biggest trouble in the world when we ordered second beers once our first round was gone. Excuse me, what do you expect me to do at a restaurant? I'm still annoyed thinking about it now.

Yelp
Really good food and extremely fair prices. Off the main circle in Rottenburg. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Strongly recommend this German restaurant.

Yelp
This a restaurant in town square. Probably the most touristy place to eat in all of Rothenburg. I would opt for a place a little further away than this if you have time. We didn't so we picked the Ratsstube. The food was ok. I got a jagersnitzel which I had expected to be a fried piece of meat, but got a grilled piece with the sauce on it. it was good, but I've have better. Most of my chop was cooked well until the end, the last few pieces were still pink inside, which isn't cool with me. So I complained to the server who offered to make me another piece of meat or a dessert. It was handled very well for not really knowing what to expect or how it would be handled. The desert was a 2 layered chocolate cake with a tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cake was really dry, and was microwaved before plating. Our server was really dry as well, as most of the people we've met on the trip, but she made sure we had what we needed. They don't serve tap water so be prepared to spend 2€ on a glass of water that may or may not be bottled. May as well drink a beer. Prices were pretty reasonable, my Jager and fries was 14€, which I had expected to be about that. Overall it wasn't awful but it wasn't the best I've ever had either.

Yelp
I'm surprised at the current rating because we had a 5 star experience there! After spending a day traveling to Rothenburg, we searched around for dining options and ratsstube had scenic outdoor seating in the main square which was hard to resist although we knew it was a tourist trap. After looking at their menu options we soon realized this was the real deal. They had everything from fish to game meat on the menu. We started with some beers and ordered the trout miller and sausage with sauerkraut. I soon wish I had ordered the trout too because the fish was phenomenal and served with warm buttered potatoes. After our meal we splurged on coffees and warmed apple strudel with ice cream at the suggestion of our waiter. Waiting to see what the damage was for 4 beers, 2 meals, 2 coffees and desert in Europe we expected it to be about $100 Euros. Our total for that amazing meal was only $39 Euros! To top it off our waiter asked where we were from and after he mentioned he was originally from Seattle which was a complete shock since we were in the middle of nowhere germany. If I ever get the opportunity to visit rothenburg again, I wont hesitate to go back.
