6 Bib Gourmand Restaurants in Scandinavia

"Under the same ownership as next door Gaijin, this lively, informal restaurant offers an accessible range of authentic North African, Turkish and Eastern Mediterranean dishes; try the set or tasting menus to experience a cross-section of them all. And if fully booked, ask for a seat at the counter." - The MICHELIN Guide

Good food but the atmosphere doesn’t match the price tag. Had the “Social tasting” menu for two. Food was great and the kitchen managed well with special dietary requirements. However, the tables are way too close to each other and hence, the restaurant lacks any intimacy what so ever and feels very packed. Definitely not a place to go if you wish any privacy.

Small dishes to share - that is their main idea for all the places from the same restaurant group. Ask the staff for their leaflet on other places - they are all different and very delicious. We took all starters: I liked mini-burger, but it’s hard to share - better keep this one to yourself;) Also try scallops and ask for their recommendation on white wine to go with.

Yelp
Super trendy restaurant with incredible food. I'm truly obsessed with their menu and wish I could've ordered the entire thing because they're serving up my favorite ingredients. Even the cocktail menu was ~swanky~ and I wanted everything on it. Get a cocktail! One of the people I was dining with doesn't drink alcohol but a lot of the drinks are marked to indicate that they can be made in mocktail form so there's no excuse for not ordering a drink!! The concept is that you order a bunch of dishes as a table to share. I started with the white anchovies with crisp bread. Holy get this!!! It's under the snack menu though so it isn't the easiest dish to share so order a couple...for yourself and then a few more for your table. You won't regret ordering this. We also got a order of hummus for the table which was good but you need to order pita too because it doesn't come with the hummus. If you think you don't need pita for your hummus please think again. Their pita is heavenly and I was scarfing it down like a kid in a candy shop. The pita is another must order, even if you don't get the hummus. We also shared the hummus but I don't really remember what it tastes like but it wasn't bad. For entrees, my sister and I split the lamb and the chicken. The lamb is beautiful, the chicken was flavorless. The lamb had this rich heat, crunch from the nuts, and an unnecessary sausage. The chicken supposedly had saffron but that was not detectable. It was also just so huge, I think I had an entire chicken on my plate I do not know how I was supposed to even come close to making a dent in it. I don't know what happened in dessert. I think we thought this sharing menu concept was still the vibe, but it seems like the tapas sizes were swapped out for hors d'oeuvres because damn was the lemon pie tiny. We got one very small plate which we were taxed with divvying up among four people. I wish we each just ordered one dessert because the desserts are bite-sized at best. All things considered, this is a pretty memorable menu and a superb dining experience in Helsinki.

Yelp
Came here for a company team dinner. Our host ordered the tasting menu for us so everything was a set menu. The cocktails before dinner were really good. Service was excellent. I really enjoyed the food. The flavors were exotic, well balanced and very good. I didn't care for the beef tartare, but not because it wasn't well prepared. This was my first time trying it and it's just not my thing. My colleagues liked it. I really enjoyed the restaurant and plan to come back!

Yelp
Good service, reasonable (price 30-60€ per person), great food yet simple, very nice interior design, okay location however not the best view. In recommend the Sea Bass with the tomato and cheese salad, it is an unusual yet delicious combination. I recommend coming here to eat.

Yelp
We were busy sightseeing around Helsinki and did not get around finding a place for dinner until fairly late in the evening. We luckily stumbled across this restaurant on our way back to the hotel. It was a rather quiet night as we only saw 2 tables being occupied and thought perhaps they were closing. We ducked in hoping to be able to get something to eat, but I was rather hestiant as we had our 4 year old along. Toddler and Michelin Star restaurant don't tend to mesh every well. The space was very minimalistic- wooden tables and whitewashed brick- simple yet chic. The server could not have been nicer. She made some wonderful recommendations and even paired our order down as she felt that it was too much food for the three of us. The lamb sliders was delicious and simple at the same time, our son devoured it and asked for more, he also loved the patatas fritas- this is a huge win for us as he is not a big eater, and most often times extremely picky. DH and I shared the beef tartare- which is one of my favorite dishes, DH does not tend to like this dish, but devoured every last morsel. The Merquez Sausage waswonderfully smoky and tender and finally the grilled black angus beef was delicious. While our order didn't see like that much, it was perfectly portioned to satisfy our appetite and turned our uneventful Valentine's Day into a wonderful evening! Never once did we feel rushed or did we feel that bringing a toddler to a restaurant like this inappropriate. It truly was a memorable experience. We were too full to order dessert, however were presented with softly toasted rosewater rosemary infused marshmallows. It was delicious just the perfect amount of sweetness to finish off our meal. The only negative of our dining experience was the obnoxiously loud drunk woman across the room, evidently a consultant dining on a corporate card. I mentioned several times how loud she was to the staff but no one asked her to keep it down. I ended up having to SHHHHH her like my children. Who knew my 4 year old would behave better than an adult 4 times his age- but I digress.

Yelp
Boulevard Social is sophisticated and has a warmth to it. The food is very interesting and delicious. Staff is amazing! Boulevard Social is the latest addition to a group of restaurants owned by the same guys (also Farang and Gaijin). You can't go wrong with any of the three. Best of Helsinki!

Yelp
Boulevard Social is situated next to my old time favorite, Gaijing. Regardless of the fact that the menu is not very vegetarian friendly I adore the decor, wine list, drinks, terrace, service and absolutely everything about the establishment. My meat loving friends have saluted the foie pate and the lamb is also very good. I prefer the social plate with things to share. When Social was first open I welcomed it as a small slice of NYC in Helsinki. Much needed. Social reminds me of Pastis in Meatpacking so much that actually going there now makes me miss New York even more.

Yelp
If you are looking for good food in Helsinki, Boulevard Social is your place. I fully recommend the tasting menus, which are just excellent value for the money. I'd give 5/5 but the only minus was the tight spacing of tables in the restaurant. There was not much privacy and at the time we visited, it was quite noisy as well. But I guess the part of the name, "Social", means other people :) The service was just great. In one of the dishes we found a cherry seed and mentioned this to the waiter. The kitchen immediately sent us a complimentary extra dish and additional dessert also came along. This is what i'd call service! On weekend, a prebooking is mandatory. I don't think you'll get a table for the prime time with just few days of notice thou.

Yelp
Nice and stylish decor. Trendy. Were there by myself for dinner. Quite loud space with lot of people. Died down after 9pm. Had one main, one side and gin/tonic. Bill came and it was over 60euros. Main which was supposed to be shareable was smallish but quite tasty. Nothing special though. Service was surprisingly bad. Had to wait everything and waiter changed every time i engaged them. A bit pricey and not the best value for money experience.

Yelp
Boulevard Social is the latest opening (the third in total) from the owners of Gaijin and Farang. This time they are however looking towards Greece, Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco and other Mediterranean countries for inspiration. They have however kept the successful focus on great cocktails. The place is pretty recently opened and perhaps they are still trying to find their ways. When I was there the place was packed with guests but also a lot of staff - actually the waiting staff almost seemed a bit confused as there were too many of them so sometimes they were in each others way. We had some pretty long waiting times for the drinks (just got the cocktails we ordered when sitting down as the first food arrived) but the food was coming almost too fast. The quality of the food was in general high but the dish specifically recommended by the waiter (the Moroccan Popcorn Chicken) was a disappointment that lacked flavor. The Pork Belly, the Pita Lamb Kebab and the Tagine Meatballs were however all very good. The decor of the place appears to be Bistro inspired and while there is nothing wrong with it I would say that it looks rather 'cheap' and it does not at all fit with the food and the atmosphere so this latest addition is not at all as good as Gaijin (next door) or Farang. Will probably try it again though to see if they improve over time.

Yelp
Love this place! Love the food. Love the atmosphere. Love the experience. Three of us (coming with small to medium-sized appetites, for shame) shared 3 dishes (plus drinks) and were comfortably full. The menu is definitely meat-heavy, but the few vegetarian options (not to be skipped over!) are worth trying. The Halloumi & Pears dish? Awesome. And portions vary in size. The honey pork belly dish was quite substantial (and substantially Delicious). Compare to the truffle & cauliflower scallops, which we could have ordered seconds (and thirds, it was that good). To get the most out of your experience, 1) Arrive Very Hungry, 2) Come as a group of 4 or more, and 3) Make a reservation. This place was surprisingly packed on a Tuesday night.

Yelp
Talking about Beef Tartare, what these guys have done is extraordinary. Striped celery mayo on top of first class beef, crowned with yolk. The experience is a bit chewy at first but then grows on you like love addiction. Beware, tartare fans, this could get you hooked.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere and the food, especially their lamb tartar. Great idea with the sharing of the dishes (same as in Farang and Gaijin which are part of the group).

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place and everything was a 10. Decoration, service, and mostly food was excellent. We felt lucky to find it. Drinks were made with care and looked delicious although we had wine (just watched the bartender). We ordered fig and cheese, pasa negra fried balls of cheese goodness, and a really good hummus lamb and honey chicken. Great people watching. Just the place you want to stumble on in a city like Helsinki. We went to Atelier Bar a block away afterwards - 14th floor hotel bar - another best kept secret.

Yelp
Great ambiance and vibe, and the food was delicious. First time in Helsinki, and a colleague highly recommended dinner here. I was dining alone, and the crowd made me initially hesitant, but the staff was fantastic and I ended up having more courses than I originally thought I would. Nice wine list, the appetizers were great, and I will definitely be back.
