Ravi's Claypot Appom Manis

The best Appom Manis in Penang cooked with charcoal!!! Their aromatic, softest & tastiest Ravi’s Appom Manis are incredibly delicious. 1 person can easily enjoy 5 pancakes. You either call them the day before to order or wait there 7am to 8am to order. They sold out 9:30am to 10am when we were waiting for our orders. They keep cooking yesterday’s orders from 10am. No new order after 9:30am. Amazingly delicious softest Ravi’s Malaysian style pancakes. I can enjoy 5 pancakes on my own.

Ravi’s Claypot Apom Manis is as close as Penang gets to a definitive apom address. This Tamil family stall has been working claypots on Jalan Burma for around a century, still lining them over glowing charcoal at first light. A thin pour of rice-and-coconut batter hits the hot pot, swept up the sides into a lacy rim while the centre stays pooled and thick. The edge turns glassy-crisp, the middle steams into a soft, springy cushion that smells of coconut before you even bite. Sweetness is restrained so you can eat one after another without fatigue. Add the Bib Gourmand badge, high online scores and regulars who still cross town and order by the dozen, and it becomes the benchmark apom manis of Penang.

Cooked over charcoal. Very good and highly recommended. Go early in the morning or it will sell out. Light and fragrant with coconut. Crispy outside, soft inside with a pillowy centre. Light sweetness — you can easily eat five and still want more. Freshly made and best enjoyed hot. Will definitely come back for more.

Second time was the charm for this spot: I came on 31st Dec an hour before closing but they were already sold out. I returned on 2nd Jan around 7:30 and it was already busy; I had to wait 30 minutes. Since the wait was long anyway, I ordered 2 sets of 5. ​It did not disappoint at all. These are charcoal apom: while you don't taste the charcoal itself, the heat control is perfect. There is a great crunch on the outside with a soft, pillowy center; the sweetness is very gentle and the coconut flavor is definitely there. They were also served incredibly hot, which I prefer. Very happy I ordered two sets.

Make your order at the stall. The heat from the charcoal is a reminder that this apom is traditional and still a labour of love. Apom came out hot, soft n fluffy. Great with a cup of kopi tiam style coffee or tea. Your landmark opposite the stall is the Pulau Tikus police station.

The apom cake with coffee peng are perfect match!! They also have best hokkien mee, white curry noodle for breakfast..not forget outside the building there is a food truck selling chared kway kak, taste awesome extra bean sprouts and duck egg❤️

Couldnt try it coz waiting time is about it 45minutes and i didnt understand how can the assistant remember everyone who ordered it without any numbering system... I think the kopitiam is made famous by this stall... its crazy to see the other stall selling char keoy tiaw at RM10, BUT only half the plate sized CKT!!... many people waited at the kopitiam because of the appom... will come back and try it next time😄 and give proper review after tasting it

Friday, 11 July 2025 Prepare to wait at least 30 mins as there's always a long queue for this Michelin Bib Gourmand stall. Both Apom, standard and egg version, cooked in claypot were soft but not crispy at the edges. Disappointing as I was expecting something more savoury and worthy of Michelin Bib Gourmand.
