"Following its opening in March 2017, Ray got a shrug of a review from PoMo critic Karen Brooks, as well as a hiccup this year when a promotional fried chicken special on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s death went pseudo-viral. Still, the restaurant was a favorite for its loyal fans, scoring a glowing review from the Portland Mercury, as well as a spot on the Los Angeles Times tour of Portland." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Dining at Ray restaurant is a delightful and delicious experience. I am thrilled that there is an Israeli food expression in Portland, OR and so thankful for a chef such as Jenn Louis who truly puts her heart on a plate. I’ve been frequenting this place lately and haven’t tried something where I literally haven’t thought that “this is the best _____ I’ve ever had!” I literally cried the first time I ate her Challah that was golden with the hue of tumeric and scattered with poppy seeds and sultanas. I highly recommend you visit Ray on a Friday night and order a loaf of challah for the table. You’ll be glad you did!

Not many Israeli cuisine around town. Get the lamb flat bread. Unbelievable.

Everytime I come here the experience is outstanding. The food, the service, the atmosphere... all are first-rate. The lamb-burger and fried chicken are awesome, some of Portland's best. Great for a romantic night out or a celebration. I highly recommend reservations; Ray is amazing and Chef Jenn and her crew keep getting better and better.

So good! We had the beet hummus with labneh, the chilled seared tuna, and the shakshuka! Plus the chili margarita and a cocktail made with beet juice and gin! Everything was AMAZING. The service was fast and our waiter was super nice. The cocktails were incredible and I was so glad I decided to get one instead of beer/wine. I've been to Shalom Y'all in Portland as well and Ray was just as good if not better! Definitely recommend it for a nice date night spot.

Great atmosphere, but I felt the food was just OK. Also, prices are quite high compared to other (relatively) similar restaurants. I did enjoy trying new dishes that I haven't had before. The coffee egg was good. The fried quail was ok but a bit soggy with oil. Octopus was perfect.

This restaurant is one of Portlands best, and my favorite. The food is unique and amazing. I highly recommend the octopus, cabbage, and quail. I need to go back because there is so much more I’d like to try. We sat at the counter and able to talk to Jenn, who gave us insight and history on the food. We even walked out with spice blends and a cookbook. I’m hoping to go back soon!

Food was excellent! Customer service was also exceptional- I never felt unattended to. Unfortunately a very small menu and undetailed titles left me no choice but to Google many of the items. However those well familiar with an Israeli menu will feel right at home, and be glad to know the food is what an Israeli meal should be. All around a great resteraunt and highly recommended.
