It is with great sadness that I write this review. As a Yountville local, who has dined many times with R+D, they intentionally burned a bridge, which cannot be repaired at this point.
There are not many restaurant choices in Yountville and this is a destination that many of our friends and family will travel to visit. While I understand every business has rules, as someone who has achieved many different wine certifications, hospitality is king, however not here. So when family travels 2 hours each way to celebrate upcoming events, it is very upsetting that rules are placed above all else, including hospitality.
Due to having a party of 6...Mom, Dad, Brother, Wife, myself and my husband, I had reserved 2 tables in a private alcove to accommodate their ridiculous rule that no more than 5 people can be sat at one table...which was one table of 4 and one table of 2 across from each other. However, when we arrived...on time....they had already given away our table of 4 to someone else.
So generally, when a restaurant makes a mistake, they try to accommodate. This restaurant has 2 large round booths, which will easily accommodate 6 people comfortably. But the management and staff hold on to this rule of no more than 5 people at one table like it is the last scrape of food on the planet.
R+D had no care or concern that 4 of the 6 people had just travelled 2 hours to get there and no other options were available last minute on Saturday night for 6 people. So the only option we had was 1 person had to stand at the bar ( I guess no walk ups for bar seats....where the heck are we???), so that management can hold fast to an idiotic rule of no more than 5 people at one table, despite the fact there is plenty of room for 1 more.
I found out after the fact that my husband sat outside with some friends awhile back, where management did the same thing, but with the outside seating numbers. To the point that no one would be served until the party was reduced by one person. This is simply ludicrous!
In the past, I have recommended R+ D, but never again. Recently, I was at a local event and told the story to many who are in the hospitality industry locally. They were horrified!
The food is always good and the servers are great, but the management is terrible, so precede with caution if you desire...I don't know...actual hospitality...which is providing great service despite less than ideal circumstances.
