Google
Best spot for BBQ in the north suburbs, maybe in the whole Metro. Wife said it's the best BBQ sauce she's ever had. We lived in the south about 30 years and are tough critics of bbq

Will Priest

Google
Real cool guy, excellent bbq. Opens at his discretion so get on the mailing list for weekly updates. They sell out often so lock in on timing if you want fed.

Bob hooks it up, huge portions all the time. Bring back the BBQ Kielbasa! The only complaint I have though is it's first come, first served. If there's a huge line, I don't even bother anymore.

Google
Best brisket I ever had and ALWAYS had amazing specials! BOBS THE BEST!

Google
Amazing! AMAZING! Pulled pork with the baken beans is always a win, and the Chicago Beef Special was delicious! AND THE COBBLER! You have to try the cobbler!

Jeff Kim

Google
Overall, great place. It's set up as a permanent food truck. The portions are heavy so come hungry.

Google
Go see BBQ Bob and order everything that you can stuff in your face. Their Q is to notch and their specials are awesome. This is a quintessential local business. Sorry them generously. Oh, you can BYOB and eat there on the picnic tables. We always bring a growler of Dark Side beer.

Google
1 star for good smelling food. Negative 4 stars for dry, flavorless beef. So dry, I was mad I only had two cups of BBQ sauce. Beans were just as dry? The Chocolate Peach Cobbler was tasty........... Maybe it was a bad day? Unfortunately, first impressions matter, and my wife and I will not be back. Note to Owner: The Brisket was abnormally dry, could be a food storage issue. And this portion size? For $9 I would have expected a little more.

Yelp
Folks who get it, get it. This is the place for friendly-serviced, creatively crafted, delicious barbecue and there is a group of devoted locals to prove it. And, yes, you have to queue for the 'cue. This is a one man operation and he pours his heart into it. Everything is homemade, even the sauces. RE is usually open 1-2 days a week (Thurs and/or Fri). You can get on the email list to receive weekly updates on hours and specials. I highly recommend trying the specials when you can, they are almost always superb. My current faves are the smoked meatballs and the lamb rogan josh. I hear legendary tales about his Frito pie. Portions are large and shareable, or you can get your own order and save the rest for a lovely lunch the next day (make your co-workers jealous). Now that it's comfort food weather, put on your coat and go meet a neighbor while waiting to order your meat.

Yelp
Full disclosure - I am friends with the owner. Food: The food is incredible, every single time. Portions are healthy, you are definitely getting what you pay for. The special varies, and Bob brings back ones that were popular. You can rest assured that both knowledge and experience are poured into each special from design to smoke to serving. The pulled pork and brisket are the ole' reliables, and are consistently delicious every time. Service: Please, for the love of smoked meat everywhere, set expectations. This is a one-person show, at every level. On top of that, Bob loves to chat, and loves to remember his customers. If the margins allowed it, I can assure you he would hire help - he has, in fact, done this in the past. If there's a line, it's going to be a while. If you need your food more quickly, I suggest that you go elsewhere. But, and this is the important part, the food is worth the wait. Ambiance: The tunes coming through the blown boat speakers, the shredded flags waving in the wind, the picnic tables, and the fire cage for when the temperature's on the chilly side... I'm not sure how Bob was able to re-create the patio party vibe, but he's done it. I highly recommend Rogue Estate. Highly. If you want to know when they're going to be open, sign up for the e-mail list.

Yelp
Seriously so good. I will definitely be coming back! So glad I'm within walking distance! Everything was delicious and had generous portions! I had the pulled pork and BBQ beans on the side. 10/10

Yelp
Brisket, Cheesy Potatoes and Baked Beans Excellent flavors, great value and excellent customer service. Positives are taste, portion sizes and value. Negative is that it's only open one or two days a week. I understand that's it's a one man show but it's too bad they don't hire a person or two to allow Ferndale to enjoy this excellent take on BBQ. We had a great meal as it's more than enough for two people.

Yelp
I've walked and driven past this place so many times and finally got the chance to try it tonight. They are only open from 3-7 on Thursday and Friday nights. We got the 1/2 pound of pulled pork with a side of cheese grits and it comes with a little barbecue sauce and a bun. They have a different special every day so we tried it-green salsa marinated pork with cheesy refried beans, sour cream, lime and 3 tortillas today. The food was very fresh and came up in just a few minutes but was a bit more expensive than I anticipated. We sat out at one of the 3 picnic tables that they have on the lot and chowed down.

Yelp
A great and unique experience. This is a food truck that you can visit at it's home base. A fantastic experience in the summer, spring or fall. Their "Q" is excellent. The only issue I have and wish they had were a few more basic sides. Their sides all have some unusual (but not bad) flavor profile. The BBQ baked beans are excellent but I wish they hadva basic cornbread and potato chips that didn't have unusual flavors. Just a straight salted or salt & pepper. But that said, it never stops me from coming here PS: If anybody at RE sees this and decides to do cornbread, remember that actual kernels of corn have no place in cornbread!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing BBQ in Ferndale but that isn't the only reason I am rating 5 stars. I have a deathly dairy allergy and when I told the owner he took it upon himself to not only use clean gloves and utensils but made it known to reassure me that there would be no cross contamination. It is very rare for people to take something like this so seriously from my experience and it was so refreshing to know someone understands dietary restrictions. He could have easily brushed it off or said he couldn't accommodate me but that was not the case. I trusted him to not send me to the hospital and he cared about the gravity of the situation. I know this might sound like an exaggeration but I've been to plenty of the most acclaimed restaurants in the area who have caused me to go to the hospital because they don't take allergies seriously. I haven't gone out to a new restaurant that I trust in 3 years and I will absolutely be going back. The brisket and BBQ beans were amazing and I can't wait to go back and try the pulled pork. Thank you for providing an awesome experience and being one of the few chefs in the area who actually care.

Yelp
Wow!Wow!Wow! Drove by and saw this Shack in Parking lot and had to take a look. Ordered the Brisket , with Beans and...Oh My!!!!! The Brisket is the BEST I have ever tasted, moist, juicy, full of flavor absolutely amazing. Bob the owner is the best, the friendliest I have ever met and clearly loves what he has achieved here. Many locals returning for their special BBQ treat! Highly recommended!!

Anjelica P.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best BBQ I've had in a long time and most definitely worth the wait. My sister and I ended up getting the ribs with BBQ beans and the brisket with roasted corn, respectively. I cannot express how fast we ate our meals because of how good they were. The ribs were falling off the bone, the brisket was super lean and not fatty at all. The roasted white corn had onion, red pepper, and spices that were a great pairing with the brisket, and the bean's flavor was great. The BBQ sauce that was provided was great as well: lots of vinegar which I love. We also got ourselves the cherry cobbler for dessert, and all I can say is WOW. So buttery, crispy, and sweet. Definitely 10/10! And the owner was so sweet that he gave my sister and me extra ribs for being first timers! Overall, they're doing a great job, and I will be dragging my friends and family here as soon as I can to grab some more grub! Highly recommend! :)

Yelp
I have been to RE precisely twice, and both times were a bit disappointing. The quality and flavor of the food is good, but the place is utterly disorganized and the service slow. Waiting 20 minutes to receive some pulled pork seems rather unnecessary, particularly considering that there were no other patrons ahead of me. The second time, I paid my money and waited about 10 minutes before they offered me potato chips, as they didn't have "enough potatoes" to make up the featured side dish. This is an exact quote. Turns out, by "enough potatoes," they meant ZERO potatoes. Silliness like this keeps Rogue Estate off of my regular rotation of restaurants.

Adam J.

Yelp
This is good bbq. I'm not ready to give it five stars just yet, though. The pulled pork has a bit of a sweet taste to it and the brisket is dang good by itself. In fact, you could eat both without adding more sauce. The beans are great and I'll probably always put that in my order. The food is better than a lot of bbq restaurants in the area so that's a definite plus. But if you come at a reasonable hour, they'll likely be out of something you want. That's one of the things I'm not completely sold on. It's only open three days of the week and then four hours for each of those days, closing at 7:30 pm. That seems a bit early, especially for summer and especially when two of the days are Thursday and Friday. It's not entirely convenient for anyone working a regular job.

Bobbie B.

Yelp
Went here after seeing many photos on Facebook. The owner was nice but his schitck seemed fake. I got brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and the special Chicago beef. Spent $50. The pulled pork was good, as was both of the sauces. The brisket was cut too thick and chewy/fatty. My hubby said the ribs were mediocre at best. He did like the Chicago beef. The cheese grits were DRY AS ALL GET OUT. the team tire reminded me of the packet of little balls you find in your new purse. They had NO flavor. Hubby didn't care for the beans. I just wish I had my money back. I'll just stick to Arkins since it delicious and much closer to me.

Weiner J.

Yelp
My friend went on and on about this place for months 2 summers ago. Then last summer I finally had it. Nothing stood out, it was expensive , and bland. Not sure I understand the hype. The Mac and cheese cups need to be heated.

Brad R.

Yelp
Awesome! Ribs, brisket and smoked sausage are mainstays, of which I've only had the ribs (great). The bbq beans are great too. When it come to food, I love to experiment. So does RE. Chinese-style orange beef brisket with veggies, monster Cuban sandwich, Iraqi-style smoked lamb, Jamaican-style jerk lamb and pork with rice and beans...all amazing! Of course all meats get the smoke treatment and all have been tender and flavorful in my experience. The chef takes risks. I like that. Maybe not all of the specials turn out great, but the ones I've had have definitely delivered. The melding of traditional bbq with other food cultures is genius! I know people can get defensive and even aggressive about bbq, but I say forget tradition! RE rocks!

Rodger W.

Yelp
Delicious and creative permanently parked BBQ food truck in an upcoming area of Ferndale. RE specializes in theme meals in addition to standard BBQ offerings. I especially like their take on middle eastern food, especially the Lebanese and Iraqi lamb dishes. Yes, they often sell out. Yes, they are not cheap. Quality sells/costs folks. I recommend getting on their email list, so you can get the heads up on the specials for each weekend day. A Ferndale jewel.

Anne M.

Yelp
I've driven past this "food truck" a million times, but never stopped when it was actually open. The owner is quite friendly and obviously has a lot of neighborhood and repeat business. He was short on staff the day we went and had invited one of his regulars to help with the register and expediting orders. Bonus points for creative problem solving. The brisket was super moist and had a nice bark. It worked well on its on or on a sandwich. The pulled pork threw me off at first. It had a lot of onions and peppers mixed in which I wasn't expecting. If I was basing my review off of the first bite, I probably wouldn't have recommended it, but the second and third bites were a lot better. We're definitely looking forward to going back and checking out some of the specials

John M.

Yelp
Bob and the crew do some solid bbq. The smoked lamb and the smoked jackfruit are immediate standouts. Everything else I have had are on par or better then expected. The sides are creative and good. I will continue to eat here and invite others to do the same. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
Well, well! Hello there! A New Contender Has Entered The Arena... Okay, so maybe it isn't in the upper echelon like Slows or Lazybones or Union Woodshop, but for what's basically a food truck (now a trailer), I was quite happy with what I was served, and the price I paid for it. They had a limited menu on Wednesday (the day I went), probably for a couple of reasons: 1. It was the day before Thanksgiving, and 2. It was the first day they had their trailer. As such, they didn't have all of their mains and sides, though they certainly had enough for me to get a really good feel for the basics, and for the way they come across. Suffice it to say that they made a very good first impression. It's a two-person operation, the main guy/smoker (whose name escapes me at the moment), and the window operator, Angie, who is very nice and easy-going. Great smile and attitude, and helpful with questions. The main guy is next to her, but more "in the back" (by about a foot) making the actual food. He's into what he's doing in an enthusiastic way, but that doesn't mean that he can't get excited when his favorite Judas Priest song comes on the radio. That puts him in a good mood! So service was good in terms of attitude and such. Locals seems to love him, too...directly behind me in line was a Pleasant Ridge police officer who was really into the grub! They were supposedly out of BBQ brisket (it was crossed out on the menu board) at $9 for a half pound of it with 1 side, which seemed quite reasonable to me, with beef being rather expensive these days. However, I'm not the biggest BBQ brisket fan you'll ever meet, and my standard-bearer for BBQ is *always* going to be pulled pork, whether sandwich or entree. So I ordered up a $7 half pound BBQ pulled pork sandwich with a side included, which again seems like a pretty decent price these days. Big Time Bonus: they had *just* gotten done with smoking some brisket, and the person or two in front of me were inquiring about it, and guess what? They were able to order it, and Angie came out and rewrote the white board menu to include brisket again. I asked for, and received, one bite of brisket along with my pulled pork sandwich, which allowed me to sample that as well. Okay, first order of business: this place will *never* be confused with Kirks BBQ. What a *very* generous portion of pork on my sandwich. It was far, far bigger than could ever have been reasonably expected to stay inside the bun, and that bothers me NOT ONE BIT. Half a pound, my eye...I have every reason to believe that it was probably around 10 ounces or so. Portion size was right up my alley. And it was darned good, too! While it's certainly different from many others out there, I certainly liked it. Understand that the pulled pork has quite a bit of onion smoked in there with it, but I like onion, and it didn't take away from the flavor of the pork at all. It does come unsauced *AS IT SHOULD*, and you can add your own from the three they offer, but when you taste the different sauces, it's pretty clear which is designed for what meat. The other notable thing about the pulled pork was the fact that it was pretty "wet", but not saucy wet, since as I said, it came without sauce. It was pretty wet, though, and it made the bun pretty damp, but not damp enough to ruin it. Even if it had ruined the bun, though, I wouldn't have cared. The pulled pork was very nice, and an ample portion for my $7 (no tax, by the way). The BBQ beef brisket surprised the crap out of me. I only had one bite, but I sure liked it, which is very rare for me. I tend to only like my brisket corned, and not much else. Again, this was served unsauced, but I may end up parting with $9 of mine in the future in order to have some of this stuff. If, in fact, the "first bite's free" in order to get me hooked, they may just very well have made a smart investment. I liked that quite a bit. For my side, I had their mustard slaw, which was good, but nothing that'll set your tongue a-wagging or anything. It seemed like the one I would like best out of the three that were offered that day (baked beans and something else), and it was good. It went well with the pulled pork, and I'd get it again, unless something else drew my attention. I'll be going back, that's for darned sure. This place is less than a mile from my parents' house, and it's my idea of what a roadside food source should be. I can take it back to my folks' place, enjoy some much-better-than-average BBQ at my own pace, and choose my own beverages, for cheap. Done and done. Recommended.

Tom H.

Yelp
My first visit to RE BBQ was just the first of many to come. Scrumptious smoked BBQ flavor, the meats are moist and tender. Their side beans rock and so did the cherry cheescake cobbler. This isn't just truck food, it is great BBQ. You need to try them out.

Cesa C.

Yelp
The best BBQ I've ever had? Not by a long shot. But it's decent. Love the people here though and the atmosphere.

Wali W.

Yelp
I eat a lot of ribs, probably too many, which I believe is just enough. These ribs have a unique, smokey flavor that I really enjoy. It was honestly a pleasant, delicious, surprise, and I look forward to coming back next week.

Matt O.

Yelp
Good food. Good people. The only knock they get is they had me all excited for Hawaiian Punch but drank it all before I arrived. Highly recommend.

Jen M.

Yelp
So glad we finally stopped and tried this awesome little BBQ stand! Just had the best smoked salmon I've ever eaten! It came with dill potatoes which were also quite good. My husband ordered the brisket and baked beans. The brisket was perfect, not too fatty, just the right amount of fat though to keep it moist, tender and buttery. He had baked beans too and they were out of this world delicious! The beans were the perfect combo of a little sweet and a little spicy. The women working tonight were very friendly and polite. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we were blown away by the food. I hope they have salmon every week. We'll be back for sure. Yummy!!!

Angelo G.

Yelp
My first time here. Had the smoke lamb shawarma special (and tried some of my friend's brisket). Simply amazing. Think I just found my new bbq place. Healthy sized portions and super friendly. There were obviously some regulars they knew by name, which was a long lost trait that was nice to see.

Angela M.

Yelp
Writing this review having not been there in a while - I am reminding myself to GET THERE. I've never had a bad meal from RE BBQ. The ribs and pulled pork are fantastic. The proprietor is a true foodie and offers a rotation of creative sides and desserts which are reasonably priced so that you can "try one of each" and put yourself into a bbq-coma.

Mai V.

Yelp
Love these guys! The BBQ is delicious! Best part is every week, Bob has a menu special. It ranges from Asia to Greek to Mexican. They're only opened 3 days a week and only for a few hours. Plus they sell out often so get there early!!! Be sure to try both sauces but the spicy one is my favorite. They have ribs, brisket, kielbasa and pulled pork every day they're opened. I've had all and ribs are my favorite. The smoke on the meats are good and it's always juicy and moist. Definitely worth a visit! Rogue was around before Detroit Fleat. Wished there were more spots like this!

Sharyn W.

Yelp
YUMMM! I mean...went there last week, Paella was delish. Went today for the 5 spiced beef rib, SO.GOOD. Pretty sure imma be there weekly!

Carmen M.

Yelp
I got the brisket and the pulled leg of lamb, collard greens and pickles as my sides. Very reasonably priced at $9 each. Extremely generous serving size, advertised as 1/2 lb but seemed closer to 12 oz at least. I also noticed with pulled pork or other saucy sides, the meat was weighed out and then additional sauce added. Super friendly staff as well. I paid cash but I think they take credit cards because they have a tablet as a Point of Sale system/register. Parking lot is tricky but the location is convenient for me. Stop in and grab a few beers and you're all set. I will definitely be back!

Gary D.

Yelp
I just finished eating the incredible Beef Brisket and decided to make a yelp account to send my praise. The brisket is incredibly tender and juicy. The man that owns and runs this food truck told me that he used to be a computer engineer but decided that wasn't the life he wanted and now he serves delicious smoked bbq 3 days a week. That's a business I can get behind... especially when the food tastes great!

Sarah H.

Yelp
I love this! Everything that comes out of THE BEAST is fantastic! The lamb and greens are great! The beef ribs are great PLUS you get to feel like one of the Flintstones with those big bones!! My husband loves the brisket WHY? Because its great! The pulled pork which is also great can easily feed 2 but why share something so tasty?!? Get your own! S'mores cobbler! Seriously?! So tasty I've also had the edamame, Brussels sprouts, and grill pickles all are GREAT! Tonight there is talk of duck OMG I can't get over there fast enough after work! Are you getting it yet? ITS GREAT! And he sets up next to the local corner store so run in and get yourself a 6 pack! Because it's Friday b*tches and beer, BBQ and the weekend were all made for each other!

S L.

Yelp
The food here is incredible! Today's special was beef ribs, and these are seriously the best beef ribs I've ever had. Tender and juicy, fall right off the bone. Generous portions, the photo is of one rib! Can't wait to try one of everything.

Louis B.

Yelp
My favorite food truck, period. It's great here and I love both the food and service. The brisket is amazing but anything you order you'll love. Creative specials and delicious desserts.

Carly S.

Yelp
The best bbq in metro Detroit! Reasonably priced, good portions, and delicious! The beef brisket was tender and and the pulled pork was perfect. Each entree comes with a side, we had the bbq beans.

Todd H.

Yelp
I'm such a happy camper now. I just finished our dinner from Rogue Estate BBQ. I've passed it on numerous occasions but at hours when they weren't serving food. Today I passed it 4 times and finally told my girlfriend, that's it, we are going there for dinner. What an awesome choice. This establishment puts a lot of care into their food and serves a generous portion for the price. The ribs and brisket are killer, no sauce required. Both have outstanding flavor and a great bark. I'd put their brisket up against all I've eaten from here to Mississippi. The garlic greens are good, the Kimchi slaw was nice but the BBQ beans are just down right righteous. If you go and try this for the first time, get the beans. We will be back.

Jo Ann H.

Yelp
Loved the Beef Ribs - never had them before and I'm 64 years old!! The Beans were just glorious, and I want to try the slaw soon - hopefully this weekend. We just moved back here from 10 years in Tennessee and they got NUTTIN on this BBQ Yep, I am a big fan. See you soon. Jo Ann

Abby J.

Yelp
I've had the brisket and pork belly and both are delicious! Garlic mashed potatoes are pretty great too.

Corey C.

Yelp
I'm sad to write a review of this kind cause I love BBQ. This review is solely on the food. So let's get started. First the good: very nice friendly people serve you BBQ at moderate prices. It is cool to see people doing something they enjoy in an unconventional way. The sauces offered were tasty especially the spicy one. Now the not so good: First off I'd like to say my standard of BBQ is based off the fine offerings brought to us by the hard working hard playing people of Kansas City. So when I tried the BBQ at Rouge Estate I feel I had high standards but by no means a BBQ snob. I ordered brisket and tomato bread pudding..... The brisket was juicy but that's where the good ends. No smoke ring no bark it was literally like eating very greasy fatty pot roast. It tasted ok but was in no way a representation of BBQ in any way. A real let down. The side dish was just not my thing, super mushy bread with stewed tomatoes. All in all even chains like Dickeys or Billy Simms is more authentic in the way they do their brisket. Now they do have ribs and sausage and pulled pork which I have not tried. Perhaps they do these all justice but if your a lover of brisket like myself do yourself a favor and go somewhere you know. If they improve their brisket let me know so I can also improve their review.

Adam M.

Yelp
Open from 3 till 730 arrived a little after 6 not a person at the establishment. Tried getting pulled pork. All sold out. Tried getting some brisket. All sold out. Tried getting some ribs... all sold out.... not sure how a BBQ place does that. Rude workers all adds up to me probably not going back

Robert D.

Yelp
WARNING: Do not go here under any circumstance! I did a large order and everybody got food poisoning. It was awful and the owner refused to return any calls, emails even text. This place should be shut down and yes, I am contacting an attorney.

Chas R.

Yelp
Best BBQ in town and a great price. Not sure what this guy is talking about, his brisket is exceptional.

Heather H.

Yelp
Awesome food, awesome people. Have systematically been trying everything on the menu and I keep coming back. Pork Ribs, pulled pork. It's all amazing!
