Late post but I need to share this experience and warn future potential customers. Ordered, Mole w/ chicken breast, tamale w/ mole, chiles rellenos all came with rice & beans and we ordered Tlayuda real de Oaxaca. This place does not have authentic food. Flavor is bland, chicken is chewy, the only good dish was the chiles rellenos cheese only. The tamale was mushy and disintegrated Horchata is watery, Jamaica they say is fresh but it comes in a plastic container, but it’s good. Service was good up until we asked for the bill. Waitress has attitude. Place is overpriced and not worth it. Avoid this place I messed up and told my family it was good based on reviews. They hate me now 😖 On top of that. My sister was double charged. Managers Jerry and Jerónimo tried telling us she wasn’t but her bank confirmed she was. Jerry promised me he would resign since he approached me with a disrespectful attitude and acted like a parent scolding his children, not the attitude of a manager. He stated he had lots of options and didn’t need this place. They argued with us telling us we they didn’t double charge. We waited an hour for Jerónimo to get off the phone with the bank. We had family waiting in the car and these people kept us waiting. Jerry offered to refund us the food out of his pocket then he said oh no I can’t this place is not my business. Jerry was childish and unprofessional rushing us out the door. I should have recorded them. This all started because Bertha the waitress wanted a $97 dollar tip. Check your bank account as soon as you pay with a Credit Card, this place is robbing people. Oh my brother got a tour of the kitchen Jerry wanted to prove something to him, he proved that the kitchen has frozen food and back of house staff don’t follow cleanliness guidelines. Avoid this place.

Great Oax style dishes 👌, But in our Tlayuda order we ask for epazote (not included in most expensive tlayuda), we got charged 6usd!!!, for 4 strips !!! 😠, be careful or ask them when order extra ingredients!!

The tlayudas (I call them a Mexican pizza), a huge thin tortilla topped with lard, beans, and your choice of toppings - string cheese, beef, chorizo, vegetables, etc. Depending on your hunger, each tlayuda can easily feed two guests. Their Mangoneada is a delicious mix of mexcal, mango, and chamoy. It's sweet and salty with a hint of spice.

This is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever eaten. The food is typical Oaxacan, and is the best. Hand made tortillas, different mole styles, Cafe de la olla, we had the huitlacoche empanadas, and enchiladas, very authentic, and also pan de azucena, delicioso 😋. I recently had a very bad experience at el Torito in Redondo Beach, you can read my review. But from now on El areal de Oaxaca is my favorite and my wife's as well. By the way our server Jeremías was superb.

We had a family celebration dinner here today. We were very excited about it and had high expectations. Although the food we got was tasty there were some important problems. -We have gone to several Mexican restaurants and we have never been charged for each tortilla. They have always been included in our meals and came together as one price. The menu did not specify that each tortillas would be an additional charge nor did our server inform us about the hidden fee. -Second we had ordered 2 horchatas drinks one for my wife, second for my child. Both drinks were the same price but completely different sizes. I mentioned this to our server but she just apologized. -Third concern, The Michelada picture presented on the menu shows a large traditional red Michelada drink but unfortunately what I got did not taste or looked nothing like it. I guess you are coasting on your laurels, but cheating your customers like this will hurt your business. At these prices, people won't give you many chances. I would have made a fuss with the manager, but it would have spoiled our celebration. Maybe you can read this soon and consider making changes immediately.

The atmosphere here is pleasant. There was two birthdays on a Thursday so it's a good place for events. There are no booths so be aware the seating is all tables. They have cheese and breads you can buy to take home also. Ok so the food... The ribs my husband got were very flavorful (around $20 ish think). Not a huge portion and the prices are pretty high in my opinion. I got a corn truffle and cheese empanada ($15) which I couldn't eat because for the first time in as long as I can remember, I legitimately didn't like it. There was very little cheese in it and that was also disappointing for me. My husband and mother in law ate it and we're ok with it. The handmade corn tortillas are absolutely amazing. They have a lady making them from scratch. Our waitress was a real sweet heart and very knowledgeable about the menu.
