"The vegan boom in New York continues with this month’s opening of the family-run Real Veggie Cafe in Jamaica, Queens, which focuses on a mashup of southern Black American soul food and Caribbean cuisine based on meat-free cooking. Chef and owner Hulando Shaw cooks soul food classics and Caribbean staples — all with a vegan riff." - Caroline Shin

Food is fresh, spiced to perfection, and left me feeling close to satisfied. The prices are a little up there, but that's to be expected of dishes that are all made in house. The owner/waiter was super friendly, funny, and attentive. Pictured is the curry goat and the tofu chicken salad.

"simply delicious, healthy, inexpensive, and authentic Caribbean vegan food. Took awhile to prepare, but then I realized each plate was made fresh to order. I guess you can't rush perfection."

The food was incredible. Lentil tasted savory and smooth and exactly how a soup should taste. Tried out the vegan goat entree and it was cooked very nicely. Appreciate the attention and care in the cooking. The family/owners were super nice, welcoming, and comforting. Will be back for sure, once again.

A little hidden gem!!! Super clean cozy place with DELICIOUS vegan Jamaican dishes. Family owned on a peaceful looking street. There is a young boy helping at the counter and taking the orders who is a well-mannered pleasant surprise. Everything from veggies to the rice was very fresh and I’m a VERY particular foodie who grew up going to top restaurants in Manhattan so I highly recommend this no frills restaurant for fresh vegan Jamaican food-you won’t miss any meat if you are not a vegan, trust me.

Came here yesterday for.a pick up order with my children for dinner. The menu had so many great choices. I had the Jerk Chicken it was so well prepared and tasty. The dessert the coconut almond cake was so amazing. Met the owners, they are so friendly and welcoming. The establishment is new and dining in is possible. For the price the portions are more then enough and worth the price. Should check if they Cater we the good is very delightful and would wow the plait.

This restaurant is definitely a good addition to the south Jamaica queens neighborhood. With some really great healthy food options. Just a few days ago me and my wife picked up some food from the real veggie cafe. We ordered a small plate of peas & rice.mac & cheese, collard greens, plantains, and crispy cauliflower with sweet chili sauce. There barbecue sauce, jerk sauce, chili sauce is spicy but not to spicy. It's just right on your meal. The crispy cauliflower, was made really good. The taste gives you the whole vibe ,like you were eating chicken. The mac & cheese was tasty, so were the collard greens & plantains. So if you are vegan or just trying to eat a little more healthy and love soul food at the same time. This is definitely the restaurant for you. The staff was great over there, very friendly and the prices were really reasonable. This is definitely a top notch vegan restaurant on the south side of jamaica. Because there are not that many healthy restaurants in the community,I would definitely go back there in the future.
