The Commodore Pub Will Reopen in Dupont Over a Year After Closing in Logan Circle | Eater DC

"I note that Rebellion, the whiskey bar whose Dupont location was closed by Westlye’s Proof Hospitality group (which cost multiple staff their jobs), continues to expand outside the District: it has locations in Arlington and Wilmington, North Carolina, recently opened an outpost in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and is working on opening another in Leesburg." - Gabe Hiatt

Google
Rebellion Bourbon Bar & Kitchen FXBG was recommended to us for lunch and it did NOT disappoint. The pork rinds arrived crackling, hot, and delicious. According to one of my dining companions, the Grilled cheese and tomato soup hit the spot. I had the Phancy Filly- it was delicious (though perhaps a bit too much lettuce for my taste). My other dining companion loved his Rebel Yell sandwich. The ranch tots were particularly good as well. We were seated on a Saturday at about 12:30 with a very short wait. The staff was friendly and attentive. We'll return.

Happy G.

Google
Food had lots of potential. Menu was well written but the full execution of the food wasn’t there. Wings were VERY smoky and the skin was not crispy. The cheese plate was delicious. We walked in around 5pm and had to wait for the host to clean off tables for us and the couple in front of us. There were a lot of pretentious rich people hanging out. Bourbon is the new trendy think. Our server was great. She was super friendly with great suggestions. The happy hour specials are decent. The drinks were made well.

Lincoln P.

Google
Came with myself and 3 others. Our wings were on point. All of us got burgers I specifically got the Swiss bank account and all of our burgers were so dried out and for the amount of toppings on it, there wasn’t much flavor to them. For the high price of the burgers we would’ve been better off just cooking on the grill.

Ashley Drexel (.

Google
Everything we had here was absolutely amazing. The in-house smoked meats were top notch - definitely some of the best smoked wings I've ever had. They have unique regular menu/flavor items and specials. Definitely try the smoked Mac and cheese.

Dylan D.

Google
Great experience, they graciously accommodated my diet. I got grilled chicken and Brussels on the side. Annie the bartender made great drinks for my +1 and had a wonderful personality. The ambiance was great especially because of the weather, I loved the outside seating.

Joseph F.

Google
Had a Bourbon flight of Rabbit Hole, smoked wings and a Cubano. The service was great attentive and friendly. The food came out in a timely manner and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and conversations with the staff.

Karen J.

Google
Food was ok. Atmosphere great. Service very good. Weirdly named Ramsay Bolton burger... Why? I seriously am curious why anyone would invoke that character name. I had the chicken sandwich w pimento cheese... Really couldn't taste the cheese. The side of coleslaw was like KFC family size and not your usual coleslaw... So take caution. Prices very reasonable. My dining partner had grilled cheese with tomato soup which is nice that is on the menu together. It was really enjoyable but the competition in this town is so strong... Not sure I will be a regular.

Google
Stopped by here on a Wednesday night after the manager of a nearby restaurant recommended it. The posted hours on Google states they were open until midnight. Upon arriving to the bar around 9:30pm, the bartender informed us last call was at 10pm as they would be closing early due to low customer volume. Our bartender was amazing and the drinks were delicious. They have a great atmosphere so I’d like to visit again. However, I strongly recommend they revise their hours rather than closing at various times, as we were told is their usual practice.

Yelp
This restaurant is lovely! I went during happy hour and with happy hour pricing on the food it was quite affordable. If you have any dietary restrictions or need to eat healthy, this is not the place for you, unless it's a cheat day. I thought i ordered the healthiest items possible and then realized such items don't exist here. I got the pretzel bites. Sounds harmless, but they chop up a pretzel and DEEP FRY IT! There are two dipping sauces, mornay or honey mustard. My server didn't ask which i wanted, so when it came out with mornay I had to ask for honey mustard instead. No big deal, I just said, oh could i have the mustard sauce instead, and she delivered. It wasn't until we paid that I saw she charged me for it? You can clearly tell by my verbiage that I wanted the opposite sauce I don't think I should be charged- I didn't even use the one she first gave me. On top of that, she didn't mention the upcharge. Just a quick little "sure, it's just a small upcharge!" would have sufficed. I also ordered the smoked wings. They are smoked and then deep fried. For crying out loud, why is everything deep fried?? Smoked wings would have been a bit healthy. My server brought me out blue cheese and ranch, which she also charged me for. Blue cheese is a hit or miss for me, so when I asked about the blue cheese and the server said she doesn't eat blue cheese, I got it, but disliked it, so asked for ranch instead. The server was nice, the restaurant was slow and chill, so all around it was a good choice for a quick bite.... except I'm on a diet. The food tasted good, my friend got the crunchy tuna, which she loves. I wish I could eat ahi tuna on a random Wednesday, but I need to be in the mood for it. That item looked healthy! I would come back, but I would have to plan out when I'd go to make sure everything else i are that week was super healthy bahahaha!

Yelp
Solid spot for a casual lunch. Stopped in with my partner for something light and was pleasantly surprised. I had the sangria, which was refreshing, and we started with the pretzel bites--crispy on the outside, soft inside, and surprisingly unique. We also tried the Nashville hot wings, which had a smoky flavor and tender chicken--definitely not your average wings. While we didn't explore much of the menu this time, our server was upbeat and friendly. I'd love to come back and try more.

Yelp
On a sunny Saturday afternoon, we stopped by for brunch Rebellion FXBG and was blown away by the flavor-packed experience. This place delivers on both presentation and punch. Ramsey Bolton Burger: This beast of a burger features double smash patties, gooey cheddar, and a generous heap of smoky-sweet bacon jam--all stacked on a perfectly toasted sesame bun. The flavor is rich and indulgent without being overwhelming. Every bite was juicy, with the bacon jam adding a savory-sweet finish that made it hard to put down. Paired with crispy, golden fries served in a copper cup, it's comfort food turned gourmet. Crunchy Tuna: The ahi tuna was seared to a delicate rare, crusted beautifully with bold seasoning and topped with crispy noodles. The citrus aioli and charred lime on the side added a bright contrast that cut through the richness. Light, fresh, and full of texture--it's a standout starter or light entrée. Rebellion isn't just about burgers--it's about bold flavors and elevated bar food done right. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty, crave-worthy burger or something lighter like their ahi tuna, this spot hits the mark. Bonus points for great plating and that laid-back, open-air vibe.

Yelp
Came in for happy hour drinks on a weeknight recently and sat at the bar. The bartender who took care of us was helpful and friendly. They have a nice happy hour menu, which I seem to recall from previous visits a couple of years ago. Drinks were really nice, even the sangria was freshly made. I wasn't too impressed with my last visit, several years ago and hadn't gone back, but this visit was nice.

Yelp
Let me start with the number ONE reason that pushed this establishment to only 3 out of 5 stars and it had absolutely nothing to do with the food, the drinks or the customer service. Of the 5-6 servers on the floor and including the bartenders, every last one of them have run their hands through their hair at least 3-12 times to either push it out of their face, around their ears before, during and after serving food and drinks and never washing their hands. Now I worked in food service for years in my younger days and I was taught proper hygiene at home as well as in the work place and they really need to do better than this. I challenge the manager to just stand and watch your staff and you will clearly see what I saw. Now it may be a nervous tick for some, but not everyone. The food and drinks were both good, but that was the biggest regret for me patronizing this business. Here is a suggestion, have everyone put their hair up however they want and stop touching your hair and frequently wash your hands.

Yelp
Love to eat in the cellar! The burger and fries are good. Definitely get the nochoes!

Yelp
3.5? I liked what I had and service was good. I think I'd need to return for a better sense of the place, but neither did I have any complaints. My group was looking for a bit fore lunch and this was convenient. They advertise the drink menu but I wasn't looking for alcohol, so got a cuban sandwich with fries. In fact, everyone at my table got fries, so it was fries all around! Not to be outdone with fries, we also got some tater tots that were smothered in ranch. I filled up on so many tots, I was mostly full by the time I got to my sandwich. The place was kinda dark, but that was my only complaint.
google avatar

Jordin S.

Yelp
We love the whole vibe of this spot. From when you enter and see the exposed beams to when you travel downstairs to the Armory with a it's speak-easy feel, you are somewhere that feels historic. Highly recommend tots with anything you get- they have a ranch seasoning that adds the perfect touch. Service can be hit or miss because they're always busy but we've never felt that it throws us off from coming back.

Yelp
Ambiance, drinks, and service 9/10! The staff was so friendly and the space is small, but MIGHTY! The ambiance starts at the door as you're greeted by the spinning logo light....REALLY COOL! The bourbon choices are endless....I'm a FAN!
google avatar

Janelle T.

Yelp
Have been here for drinks previously and finally stopped to try food for restaurant week. Not a huge bourbon/whiskey fan but decided to give Jimmy at the savoy a try and it wasn't bad once the ice started to melt and make it a little less strong. The wings with ranch were great, and we enjoyed the tempura shrimp and rice cake appetizer. Our lamb chops seemed a bit under cooked and luckily they fixed it for us and helped compensate with a discount on the bill. Server was great, she was attentive and helpful with knowing drinks and the menu. Went on a Wednesday so it wasn't busy or loud, but with the fire going we left smelling like a camp fire. Will surely be back for more appetizers and drinks.

Yelp
Finding myself out by the dreaded interstate, I wanted to venture into the older part of the city- to which I had not been since I was a child. The buildings were the same, but there was a lot more going on this time. I went to into Rebellion Bourbon by accident really and had a wonderful tuna appetizer which served as dinner. It was recommended by Ana who was my waitress. She knew the menu inside out and is interested in people- which is a rare quality these days. It completely changes the experience- even the way the food tastes- when good service meets well prepared food. The staff seemed like a happy bunch. I hope to go back someday.

Yelp
I've been to Rebellion many times and recently visited again. One thing I like about Rebellion is that they have happy hour specials M-F and their food menu is not too crazy, so you don't have time to waffle between 10 different things. Having already tried a few things on the menu, we went for things we hadn't had before. LET ME TELL YOU... those (smoked) wings were to die for. Various sauce flavors to choose from, but the Mumbo sauce was perfection. For my main I chose the fish and chips and WOW. Three big fish filets in the most perfect breading, served with fries. Amazing. And another thing I pretty much discovered during this visit is that Rebellion makes their own sauces: ranch, blue cheese, tartar, etc. All were so good! We had such a good dining experience that I'd pick the same things all over again. Highly recommend!

Jose C.

Yelp
Great burger, went with the Ramsay Bolton burger. They actually have very tasty brussel sprouts which they will accommodate for some allergy concerns. Can't wait to return here for the underground tour on Saturday.
google avatar

Caroline E.

Yelp
The food was really good especially the tuna. The Brussel sprouts had a little too much seasoning it was overpowering but other than that everything was good. Service was okay not the best not the worst our waitress was really nice though!

DM K.

Yelp
Sat for ten minutes. No one came to our table. Unfortunately this place cannot handle a full restaurant. Such a shame. Has potential, but time and time again they fall short.

Yelp
Arr mateys Captin 619 here! Let me tell ye about me recent voyage to Rebellion Bourbon Bar & Kitchen FXBG. This place be a hidden treasure, with grub fit for a pirate king like meself. I tried the wedge salad, and let me tell ye, the flavor be as big as the waves at Mavericks, and the portion be as hearty as a pirate's feast. The prices be fair and just, and the ambience upstairs be as classy as a fine schooner sailing into the sunset. If ye be in Virginia and in need of a spot to satiate yer hunger, look no further than Rebellion Bourbon Bar & Kitchen FXBG. Me and me crew of scallywags enjoyed a feast fit for a king for under $100, a steal for the quality and quantity of food we received. So hoist the sails and set a course for Rebellion Bourbon Bar & Kitchen FXBG, me hearties! Aaarrrr!

Yelp
Great appetizers and wings. Recommend the dry rub wings, such smokey goodness! Their signature cocktails are do unique and full of flavor.

Yelp
The portions here are great. And the drinks are good as well. Get the fajitas! Very good and comfortable place. I would highly recommend. Staff are awesome.

Yelp
A sports feel but when we arrived right after lunch the place was quiet. The service was friendly and fast. The Cubano I got and the grilled cheese my wife ordered were both good as were the fries.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
First time here and it's obviously a local favorite. We enjoyed the cheese platter to start, and the pickles and peppers were a special twist. Comped because my daughter got a wedding dress across the street! ( that is optional!) I ordered the Rebel Yell, which has toasted sourdough and yummy bacon! It has a sauce, so get ready to lick your fingers. My daughter enjoy had the special with was grilled chicken and mushrooms, she loved it. Especially the Brussels sprouts, heads up they will up charge you. And my wife enjoyed the grilled cheese, which comes with tomato soup. She thought the soup was too spicy for her. Fun music in the background and nice service. Hope to be back to try more!

Yelp
Attached to sugar shack donuts is one of the best quick burgers in town- @lutherburger . The side screened in porch is a great casual spot to hangout and eat with the family. Can't decide between sweet or savory? Try a classic beef, vegan, or turkey burger complete with lettuce , tomato , cheese , pickles, onions and burger sauce "Luther style" (sub classic bun for two hot and fresh glazed donuts). Tip: get the waffle fries with the salt and vinegar dry seasoning

Brandon R.

Yelp
The bourbon selection was great! The vibes were perfect for it was busy but not crowded. Our nachos were a disappointment because the meat was cold but after we talked to the waitress, it was taken care of

Cathy R.

Yelp
First time and won't be the last!! Read good reviews and had to try. The food was superb! The nachos with steak was fantastic. Serving size was huge! Perfect mix of toppings. We also had Smoked wings with chef's original signature bbq dry rub. Both hubby and I said the taste tantalized the taste buds. Our favorite was the Crunchy Tuna appetizer, seared to perfection, plated beautifully on bed of cilantro mayo and topped with whatever they call corn and rice crisps. We will go back!

Joshua K.

Yelp
Servers are inexperienced and young. Need to have many years experience to bartend. Too young to bartend.

Tim M.

Yelp
Terrible service and extremely unpleasant staff. I don't know what was going on, but at one point the bartender with a man bun and a napoleon complex started threatening a customer with a baseball bat. He made me feel unsafe after the patron, who hadn't seemed to do anything wrong, was racially profiled by the older red haired bartender and forced out. He then started storming around the place pushing customers out of his way and swinging a mop recklessly. Really turned me off of the establishment as the other bartenders became very rude after that happened. Closed early after the police came in. Won't be coming back
google avatar

Kandis N.

Yelp
Everything about this place was excellent. The service, the ambiance, the food and the cocktails. The smoked wings... chefs kiss. The filly cheesesteak, super tasty. The Cuban sandwich, FANTASTIC. The cocktails were excellent. Absolutely returning for sure! Can't wait to try the brunch!
google avatar

Jake T.

Yelp
Overall had a good experience. I came in during a major rain storm and was 1 of maybe 5 people inside at the time. The staff was friendly and the overall look of the place was awesome. Great bourbon selection as well. Got the grilled cheese with tomato soup. The sandwich was great and the pickles made a great addition to it. The soup was good but unfortunately luke warm which is the reason this place didn't get a 5. Overall will absolutely return!!!
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
Love the ambiance and the servers were very knowledgeable. I had a Manhattan with the bourbon wings on happy hour which they have every day from 3-6pm l. Happy hour food and drinks are 50% off and surprisingly I was able to get parking right out front which is an added bonus. Well worth it.
google avatar

Catherine M.

Yelp
I stopped in for a quick lunch before heading back up 95. Sat at the bar and service was quick. I ordered the special chicken Caesar salad wrap with a side of fries. Food took maybe 20 on a not super busy day. The wrap was OK- the chicken was actually somehow too smoky which switched the flavor on the wrap- it almost felt like there was blue cheese in it instead of Caesar dressing. Fries were good but just you know, basic fries. Meal was around 20$ so a bit pricy but service was good.
google avatar

Brandon N.

Yelp
Cute decor in a fantastic old building. But the food is bland and boring. Liquor prices safe through the roof and totally not worth it. The staff seemed overwhelmed and not happy to be there.

Van N.

Yelp
The best burger and smoked wings in all of Fburg! I highly recommend the Ramsey Bolton Burger and smoked old bay wings
google avatar

Precious J.

Yelp
This review is only for the bar area only. Kyle was amazing! The music was lively and diverse... my fav. The food will be for the next visit. Kyle really knows how to make great drinks and provide quality, attentive service. He was able to make a specialty drink from description only, now that's a talented bartender. I've had this place on my bookmarks for the longest time and I am happy to have finally ventured down to the Burg to check it out. I selfishly don't want to boast about this place because it may increase the wait time on my next visit but OMG... this is my kinda bar. Only if there was an outdoor seating area, it would be the perfect chill spot!
google avatar

Zach G.

Yelp
Ate here several weeks ago. The drinks and food were exceptional, but the service was a bit lacking. Waited quite a bit of time at every stage of service. It seemed like some people were getting better service in other sections, so I assume it's hit or miss depending on the day and section.
google avatar

Connor P.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! They have an amazing bourbon selection and even better buffalo wings. Their drinks are always well made and the staff are some of the most attentive and diligent people I've ever met. The restaurant has a great vibe to its and is conveniently located in the heart of downtown.

D W.

Yelp
Fantastic ambiance, service and eats! We live in Northern Michigan and can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Ned P.

Yelp
Good food & service. Cozy ambiance except for all the TVs, but at least the volume was off. Place is small-ish and almost hard to find because the sign is high and small. Very much a bar atmosphere as indicated by the name. The food was very tasty. I had the grilled cheese, which was good, not spectacular. The sourdough bread was fresh, and the pickles added something wonderful. Fries were fries, but the bbq sauce was amazing! When I commented on how good it was, the server gave me some to take home, which was an unexpected delight. The other got the Caesar brussels sprouts salad with added smoked chicken. He loved it, and my small taste agreed. It really is just the brussels though, no other veg, which was not a problem but not what we assumed. One small warning - I tasted fish sauce, which is natural in a Caesar salad, but which I hate, so there's that. Overall would go again.

Nadia C.

Yelp
My family and I had the pleasure of dining at Rebellion and we were all quite impressed by the service and food. The burgers and wings were amazing and the cheese board was a nice appetizer. We will definitely be back again! Thank you!

doreen c.

Yelp
Drinks are delicious and the vibe is great. Need to come by and check it out!! Must have the Tiki Tiki Tavi.
google avatar

Emilie T.

Yelp
This was a convenient stop after dress shopping recently and we all had a great experience! The staff were very helpful and accommodating for my friend who was in a wheelchair which was very appreciated. Food came out hot and relatively quick despite a pretty full restaurant. Delicious all the way around!!
google avatar

Laine S.

Yelp
Service is hit or miss. One thing is guaranteed: Don't expect anything quickly. The atmosphere here is slow and relaxed. If you're hungry, go across the street The food here is delicious, and full of oil and sugar. The best part are the burgers, but they're not as good recently. They have become greasier and a little overcooked for my liking. The food is so really good. We recommend the Ramsey Bolton with the charred brussel sprouts. The appetizer we frequently get is the loaded tots. They do put sugar on them, just be advised if that's not your thing!
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Do not miss! Rebellion has very tasty food! The restaurant has a sport bar vibe and is in a cute walkable neighborhood. It is reasonably priced and anyone that can make tater tots that delicious is an artist! We have been there several times and will continue to visit this restaurant!

Brian L.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was so so. A great selection of distilled spirits that deserve an actual printed menu. QR codes are not hip, they are just lazy. The historic building is beautiful inside. However, there is no soundproofing. This is problematic as the management seems to enjoy conversation-killing volume for both recorded and live music. It would be a shame if a few notches on the volume slider were to kill this business. Spirits are slightly overpriced, but the extensive selection makes this understandable and worth the price difference as compared to neighboring restaurants.
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
Drinks have become too sugared. The menu lost some of the more complex flavored drinks over the years. The food was good. I don't usually order Mac and cheese but I loved how it was served here. The gyro was delicious but was a limited item. Should make permanent.
google avatar

T C.

Yelp
We came by as all the siblings and spouses came in town. We enjoyed dinner in the speak easy in the basement. The bar tender was funny and entertaining and the mules were delicious. We had nachos to share and dinners. What a great place for a party of 8 to gather and visit. We came early and glad we did as it got busy. We will be back for more great drinks and food

Michael S.

Yelp
The food came out in less than 10 minutes, and the burger was very good. I also think one can get a lot of fries for the cost of the burger, which was nice. I was able to get refills of water after 2 drinks and it is rare sitting a bar results in this type of service. There is live music from time to time which is good to see. I would go back if I happen to be in the general area.
google avatar

Mio K.

Yelp
Fun environment and great selection of drinks. We both enjoyed the food very much. Some drinks were half off the day we were there. We sat at the bar and had a wonderful bartender, who was very attentive and personable ...next trip back to Fredericksburg. we will definitely stop by again.
google avatar

Lou Ann R.

Yelp
Delicious food, awesome service, quaint, I will most definitely be going back again and again. Looking forward to trying other things on the
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Just a quick stop off while we waited for the accident on I-95 heading north to be cleared on our way back to NoVA. This is a quaint establishment on the main strip in historic downtown Fredricksburg. We arrived during HH and while not particularly hungry, the pretzel bites were calling our names. A choice of a mustard or beer cheese sauce accompanies the bites and it was a solid offering. The regular menu looks good so the next time we find ourselves in Fredricksburg, we will have to try a fuller experience.
