When we arrived, we were invited to sit at a table in the restaurant section, where we filled out the paperwork for the Konus card (free train and bus transport in the Black Forest) and were served a refreshing drink. Our room was directly over the river, and was huge by European standards, and by some US standards as well! We had a queen bed (basically a US King - two twins pushed together in one frame), a seating area with a couch and chair and a desk area. The bathroom was also huge, and there was a roof window there so we could get a cross breeze through the room.||||The owners of the hotel went out of their way to recommend things for us to see and do while we stayed with them for 2 nights. Honestly, they went above and beyond anything I would expect. We ate dinner at the restaurant (actually on the terrace) both nights and it was excellent. They do offer a half portion for smaller appetites, and I learned my lesson after the first evening meal!||||Breakfast on the first morning was overwhelming - apparently we were the only guests and there was a table set up with more food than any two people could ever hope to eat. Because there were more guests the second morning, a breakfast buffet was set up, which still had lots and lots of choices.||||Although we didn't spend a lot of time in the town of Oppenau, it seemed to be a very relaxing place. We walked around the town, and up the mountain that overlooks the town, where there is a very nice walking path. We did not visit the nearby waterfalls as we just ran out of time. So we need to come back!||||This was the last place we stayed after spending 1 week in Iceland and 2 weeks in Germany. My 18 year old son (my travel companion) said this was his favorite place of all the hotels and guest houses we stayed in. I have to agree. I would recommend this place to anyone and I really hope to make a return visit!
