Been coming here for a decade ish I think. I almost always find something amazing. Today was no exception. I really love the older gentleman who wears a mask. He is so kind and helpful. I also wear a mask and seeing him is such an act of solidarity. But yeah found so many goodies today and I'm excited.

Everyone can find a book, CD, DVD, or album here. You’ll love the way the books are setup in cozy nooks and rooms. There’s places to read at the front on the green carpet in between bookcases. You’ll pass a great place for a selfie in front of Frankenstein. They have vintage books and a children’s section. Lots of cute gift items, maps, t-shirts, tote bags, earrings, stickers, and coffee mugs. I’ve never been in such an amazing book store as this. Hands down one of the best used bookstores I’ve been to in Texas!

Google
Such a cool place! I love that they have three floors of books. It feels like a bit of a maze in here. It can be tough finding what you're looking for, but that's part of the fun. Book prices are not always the greatest (sometimes they're comparable to amazon, etc, but it's better to support the local community). I've found some good deals here, including some signed books!

Walking into Recycled Books feels like stepping into the mind of a wizard who hoards knowledge and kaiju figurines. This place is a glorious labyrinth of nostalgia, dust, and literary chaos—and I loved every minute of it. The kids’ section? Immaculate. A magical little corner where imagination thrives and sticky fingers hunt for dragons. That’s where I discovered Little Toot—a heroic tugboat with a name that inspires equal parts giggles and respect. Never underestimate the power of a toot, my friends. That little guy moved mountains (and ships). Now, about that very robust occult section. I gotta deduce a star. Unnecessary. But the kaiju figurines? Chef’s kiss. Because nothing pairs better with obscure 1970s poetry than a tiny Godzilla watching you silently judge the Twilight section. Recycled Books is the chaotic-neutral dungeon of your bookish dreams. Enter at your own risk—and prepare to be delightfully overwhelmed.

My favorite pit stop. Date nights. Wanna kill some time. All of the above this is the place to do it. The moment I walk in its like my wallet becomes empty. There are treasures all over the store that are just too irresistible. So he prepared to pull out your card or cash cause you'll find something everyone will enjoy.

Google
It’s huge! You could spend hours here! We try to visit 2-3 times a year. I collect old copies from a classic author, and I am always so pleased to find new copies to collect each time I visit. Still great book turnover, organized collections, and well maintained shelves.

Google
This place is a wild maze of wonderful books and media! In the hour I was in there, I barely scratched the surface of this massive store. It's a warren of rooms bursting with great books at fantastic prices. The CDs I bought were $5-8. The books were $6-12. A rare DVD was only $30 when it's online for $100+. It is a fantastic store with everything you can imagine in it!

Google
Wow! I love it. Came with family so didn’t want to take too much time there but its a must to go back. Impressed. Rows and rows of books. Every corner, book and cranny is filled with wonderfully placed and it’s an attractive setting. Great help, pleasant and sincerely polite and helpful.

Yelp
Was in town for leisure and upon going on here, I was completely blown away by this place - they had everything you could want in a used bookstore. Incredible selection of nonfiction books. This is how bookstores should be.

Yelp
Dallas has Half Price Books, and Denton's equivalent is the Recycled Books Records store. And it's a must visit place when you're in Denton! This shop has been in Denton for many years, more years than I can remember. The building is one of my favorites on the square. It's the old Opera House. I wish I could have visited the Opera here in its hay day. But today, I walked through the hushes of a memory of the once beautiful interior of his Opera house, and all I see are books and records. Their selection of books and records are amazing, and I spent time combing through the children's area. Yes, I bought lots of books today.

Yelp
This place rules. It will take up much of your day if you are a bibliophile. Some areas are much more expansive than others but I enjoyed looking at their First Editions, art, and the pulp section. Interesting selections in biographies (which kinda is a sub genre here, look around) as well. Lots of comics, concert memorabilia etc. It's worth an afternoon if you have the time. Would be 5 stars if the upper section with classics had more volumes in a used condition and a more "complete" inventory.

Yelp
Recycled books is one of the best used book stores I've seen, if for no other reason by the shear amount of selection that they have. There are so many twist and turns you can take to find yet another shelf of books to look at. The only complaint was that they didn't have a system to look up to see if they had a particular book in stock. Something that might be solved with updating their buying system. I get the impression that with this being an independent store that cost of having that system might be something they don't want to do, as it would make them possibly have to drive up cost. Regardless, this is a great place to stop and look if you are happening to be in this area of DFW anyway.

Yelp
I came here with a friend during the summer and enjoyed looking through their selection of books. We checked the downstairs section and the kids section as well which is extensive. I ended up finding a couple of Christian books for a reasonable price and picked a plant sticker from the register. The lady at the register was friendly. Recycled Books is in a prime location in the Denton square with a couple side spots for parking available.

Yelp
This is one of the best used bookstores I've ever visited. Multiple stories of stories, non-fiction, art books, music, movies, and more. Comparable to the Half Price Books on Northwest Highway or Los Angeles' The Last Bookstore in size, this place is awesome. They also host amazing events. I was fortunate to get to see Grady Hendrix twice at this store. If you're in Denton, definitely stop in. If you're not in Denton, why not drive over and enjoy a nice day on the square complete with a visit to this fantastic shop.

Yelp
This place is PACKED with everything from books to records to toys to bags and stickers! No matter who you're shopping for, you'll be able to find something for them. The guys at the checkout were friendly and were quick to point me in the direction of things. If you buy a tote bag from them you'll get 10% off each time you bring it in to shop in the future! :) The bathroom was ...okay...but there's a free bathroom across the street at the courthouse haha

Yelp
It had been a number of years ... ok I'll have to admit about 10-15 years since I had found myself in this area with enough time to give a proper walk thru of Recycled Books. We found ourselves with a Friday off, with a kiddo on break, so we made a day of coming back over here to explore. My kiddo loved that there was so many corners and places to explore to find more books. If I didn't have my kiddo we could have easily spent an hour or so just trying to look at everything. We were able to find a few things to bring home during our visit. I had decided to bring in my old paperback wish list, a list of books that I had made from a book Grady Hendrix put out about old books from around the 60's-80's ... Staff was friendly and willing to help, by showing me to the sections that the books likely would be in if they have them, but they let me know they didn't have any sort of computer system to be able to look up stock to see if they had any of them. So, my one tip would be to see if they could invest in something like that, possibly tied to their intake at the buy counter.

Yelp
One of my favorite stores in Denton! The employees are friendly. Though primarily used books, Recycled always has a great selection. You could spend hours browsing. I always stop by if I'm grabbing a coffee from Jupiter House. Though my record buying days are over for the most part, they also have a great selection of records and CDs. Their merchandise always looks fantastic; I don't know who designs the shirts but I always love them and have several! One of my favorite aspects of Recycled is that they support local artists and display their merchandise in the store. A must visit in Denton!

Yelp
I love this place! I've recently just started going here after needing something new to read. This place is probably the coolest place I've been to in Texas so far. Not only does it cater to the hardcore scene in records available (the merch for the bookstore is amazing) - it's also just genuinely an amazing place to purchase records/books. The books that are available there are beyond cool and are at such a fantastic price. The manga that's there is pretty good and the comics available are AMAZING. I don't think I have ever found such a cool selection in my life. Also, the workers are so sweet and very nice people to talk with. (If you're homesick and lonely like me - they will listen to you talk because they're sweethearts). I will try not spoil it for you but just walk around the place as much as you can. The different areas for book genres was probably the cutest thing I have ever seen and is definitely worth a visit just because of that. Please support local and go here!! This place is incredible and I will miss it so much when I move back home.

Yelp
Recycled Books & Records, which firmly anchors the downtown Denton square, in the north east corner, formerly the township of Denton's opulent 1800s Opera House finds new purpose as a budget friendly second hand book, records, and CDs store, serving as Denton's cross roads purveyor of literature and music. I think I still have memories of getting stuck upstairs, looking at albums from my 60 years of life. If you have never been to Denton, this is the best place to start a self guided tour! Cheers, Mark F.

BethAnn B.

Yelp
Great opportunity to recycle books and CDs. Excellent service from Chris as the staff reviewed the books I brought in that were my mother's and a friend's. Received good value for the books we submitted. Enjoyed browsing existing books and CDs while awaiting offer.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the last great non chain used bookstores left..has multiple places to find a hidden gym..collectibles section with a nice music and vinyl section. Never get tired of shopping at recycled books
google avatar

Kara E.

Yelp
I can always find what I didn't know I was looking for here. Located conveniently on the square, it's a mix of all music media, plus some video media, too! I found my favorite long-sleeve shirt here, off a one-off rack, plus a handful of records. I love the character of the space(s), ramps spread up and down the different separated areas, and you can tell it's a well-loved atmosphere filled with previously well-loved quality garb. The people are top-notch, too. Your classic Denton, TX feel, through and through. Oh! Buy a branded Recycled Books shirt and wear it next time you come in for a discount! What a great deal!

Yelp
Super unique store, stuffed with great finds. Bigger than it seems! Will absolutely be going again (:

Yelp
Took my dad to look around and he had a ball and walked out with a big bag of books. Super helpful staff. Great place to spend an afternoon looking around. In the heart of old downy

Yelp
What a cool spot, they got cassettes CDs Vinyls, books, magazines, posters, prints, games for almost all consoles & some action figures & figurines! If you buy one of their hats or patches/pins & wear their merchandise when you enter the store you can get a 15% discount when you checkout!

Yelp
This bookstore felt magical. It brought back all of my nostalgic small town feelings from living in Indiana. They had so many cool things to get lost and lose time with. Records, Books, trinkets, toys... I felt like a kid in a candy store. Definitely worth checking out when in the area

Isabella R.

Yelp
Super interesting interior with so many affordable books. So fun even just to explore the building.

Chris N.

Yelp
Best. Used. Bookstore. Ever. It's a must stop whenever I'm near Denton. Take time to wander. Don't miss the upstairs. There are sections of this place I could spend days exploring!

Yelp
Book, books and more books with music. This bookstore transported me into the wonderful world of reading. I was most impressed with the selection of used books and the categories. As far as used books are concerned you can find some rare gems and the authors are easily labeled. How many books are there? Two floors worth with sections of books for children, teaching, history, horror, anime, Christian fiction, mental health, holistic medicine, Black History, African area studies, poetry and all other genres of books. Three words for you: Yelp Checkin coupon. Treat yourself!
google avatar

Sunny D.

Yelp
We love to shop here when we're in town. Unique selection of books and music. Fun place!

Allison S.

Yelp
I love this book store. I can (and have) get lost in here! There are so many little rooms and everything is organized by topic. People are friendly.
google avatar

Bobb W.

Yelp
There is no better place to buy as they have so many selections you might use a full day searching for what you want, and then find yourself distracted by everything else they have. There is no better place to sell your books and records/Cd's as well. Where other stores (not pointing at any store with the initials HPB) they give you as the expression goes Bang for your buck. Knowledge staff and very patient to answer any questions you might have.
google avatar

Elaine M.

Yelp
I love bookstores like this. They are definitely a dying breed. It was great to see that a lot of people were in here - that means people are enjoying books! This place has extensive CD collection, unusual craft books, and a rather large star trek book section. We were happy hanging out in the manga section, definitely more variety than you would find at a standard bookstore. The 'books for tall people' was a funny touch.
google avatar

Victoria H.

Yelp
Great place it has a lot of books, comics, and records. Very economical and big with lots of variety of books. Along with lots of places or things to take pictures.

Guy L. M.

Yelp
Excellent selection of Records and CD's at good prices. Conveniently located. The associates provided good service.

Yelp
An avid reader in a two-story bookstore?! Thought I had found my eternal bliss. At first glance, the shop appeared half bookstore and half music gallery. Much to my pleasure and surprise, almost the entire basement floor consisted of historical or biographical books. (There were a few other genres tucked away in several offshoots of the main room.) If you check in on Yelp!, you will receive a virtual coupon for a percentage off your entire purchase. This was extra incentive to add to my personal library. If you are ever in Denton, don't miss out on this downtown gem.
google avatar

Ali G.

Yelp
This place is HUGE! Tons of selection and super friendly staff. There are several signs that say large bags need to be left at the front. I had a backpack and wasn't asked to leave it, but maybe they could tell it was my diaper bag since I was hauling a baby? I didn't find out until we got the the register that almost all of the books' prices are written in pencil inside the front cover. Also, it smelled like weed when we first walked in, but the rest of the store didn't. Could have been the guy sitting at the "sanitation table" (masks and hand sanitizer) by the front door?

Charlie F.

Yelp
Not a great place to sell your collection. Will only get about 10 cents per movie.
google avatar

Kaitlyn O.

Yelp
I will not buy books anywhere else! I really have loved recycled and have been coming here almost everytime I come to Denton. They have a really great selection and amazing prices. I think this place is super fun to go and browse when you aren't sure what you want to read next. I have found some of my favorite books here just by spending time in each genre. This place would also be great for gifts, the music selection is huge and they have cute mugs, t shirts, and other knick knacks all around the store.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Fun used bookstore with tons of character on the historic Denton courthouse square. Service was friendly. Street parking can be in short supply but there are couple free parking lots nearby. Selection is random but wandering around the stacks here is your real goal here. Vinyl records and dvds available as well. I will be back!
google avatar

Kristi C.

Yelp
Wow. I am so in love with this store. Three stories of gently used/used books, records and cds... what's not to love? I love the idea of giving items a second life... it's such a waste to just read a book and then toss it or have it sit on a bookshelf forever. People may find it gross to buy things that are used, but I love the idea of it. Especially because it's generally a lot cheaper too!! This store offers so, so much variety of books, records and cds and it's all perfectly organized and labeled. I literally could live here... the store is HUGE! I was inside for at least an hour or two and still it was not long enough to thoroughly explore all that the store has to offer. Though it is a bookstore, it's probably not the best place to study at as they make you put your backpack in the front and there aren't any desks to study at. However, it is a great place to sit and snuggle up with a good book for the day!!

Yelp
This is a good, old-fashioned, independent, sits-on-the-Town-square-in-a-funky-college-town used books, records, and CD store! In addition to the items in the store's name, Recycled also sells local bagged coffee, branded t-shirts and tank tops, greeting cards, coaster made from mini-records, and other quirky stuff. This is the kind of place that makes me want to more-than-dive into reading (it makes me wanna PLUNGE into reading), buy an old favorite CD, linger in the MANY book rooms, pick up a new language or a new hobby... On my last visit, my partner saw my excitement over wildflower books and Hindi Elementary language books which he then purchased for me as feel-good gifts. What can be better than books!? Some girls swoon for jewelry but books fill me with far more joy! Books can eventually be lost, stolen, or donated but the knowledge can't! Each book read has the potential to transform--hopefully for the better. This store, while not the nicest smelling or most impressive facility, fills me with wonder and inspires me. I love supporting this business and finding gifts for friends and family here:) I also appreciate how helpful staff have been each time I've visited. A great place to get lost and dReAm for a while!
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
This is such a good place to shop very laid-back and casual with a great atmosphere the staff is very attentive and the selection of books and vinyl is fantastic and the prices are appropriate!

Ashleigh D.

Yelp
This place is like a wondrous magical rabbit hole of a structure. I love every single thing about it. Residing in an old opera house, there are three levels. A basement, main floor and makeshift second floor. There are books, records, movies hidden all over the place and it seems to have no rhyme or reason to the layout or where things are kept, but it honestly adds to the charm. You can spend hours exploring corner bookcases with art displays and discover a cat resting between Alice In Wonderland and a textbook from 100 years ago about how the world is flat. Surprisingly, the employees know exactly where each book/movie/music title is and if it's in stock. They are angels and I do not envy the amount of information they have to memorize. In terms of reselling your stuff, they are usually quick about assessing and you are given a fair price for your items. The prices throughout are insanely cheap. I remember buying the entire Star Wars trilogy + bonus content on DVD for $20 (this was before Disney revived it and DVDs were still cool). Worth the visit. Worth the three hours you'll spend wandering. Just love.

Yelp
Been coming here since the mid 90s and it hasn't changed much if at all. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and the selection is virtually endless. I almost always find something that I want but even when I don't I had fun looking. I absolutely love the multi leveled layout. There's little nooks and hidden spaces everywhere. I've never been to another place like it and I genuinely hope they stay open for another 120 years.
google avatar

Haylee S.

Yelp
Recycled Books has been a must visit for me whenever I come back to visit friends and family. There is nothing better than perusing their collection of books, records, CDs, and now video games. Everything is extremely reasonably priced and the staff are relaxed and friendly. The store itself is fascinating. There are so many strange nooks and crannies filled with books on magic, travel, history, and even a small collection of books about collecting. It's well organized and easy to find things if one knows the layout of the store. Please take your time and explore; it is truly a treat to explore and discover the treasures within Recycled Books.
google avatar

Manda C.

Yelp
This is a fun wonderland to go and explore with nothing specific in mind. Looking for a specific book seems like it would be a huge headache but checking out genres and authors is fun, especially when you discovered there is something new or something you haven't read! I could spend a day here if my schedule allowed and it's nice to see other book lovers sitting on the floor reading. You may see some repeats if your visits are close together but if you space them out there is always a new treasure to find! There is a fairly large music selection and quite a lot of movies and shows so my husband usually makes a stop there to find 2 or 3 things we haven't seen before at $5 a pop, not bad! In regards to selling here, they are very picky and will not offer you much. They will also take a very small selection of what is brought in. I can't really rate them on that. I can only review this for book lovers who have overstuffed shelves at home and piles of books throughout the house who will be in awe every time they step through the door. If you want a review for an average consumer and not from the wide eyed wonder of someone who sees this as a fun pasttime only, can't help ya!

Yelp
This place is a really cool bookstore you gotta go at least once if you are in Denton. It has been open for many years (the cash register guy told me how many years but I forgot.. Maybe over 30?? I'm probably wrong tho). Last time I came, there was a 20 percent off entire store because it was the labor day weekend sale. There was so many people and soo many things to look at. I honestly got lost a couple times and lost my friends too.. its that big! If you check in on yelp, I beleive theres a 20 percent off or 15 percent off coupon so on other days without sales, you should definitely check in! You can find so many cool books and movies and music here for cheap so its worth a visit!
google avatar

Billy F.

Yelp
A treasure trove!!! Go see for yourself. Great location and friendly staff. If your walking the square, stop by.

Yelp
Recycled Book Records and CDs is definitely a time warp. Once you step inside the musty old smell and rows of rows of items will surely bring back some crazy memories of books, movies and music of your past. I was really amazed at how big this place was. It seems to keep going and going and each room offers some crazy new novelty items, posters r and different genre of books, music or movies. We found some really cool things but didn't make any purchases. I did grab one of their free bumper stickers from the front register. Yelp
Just come in and explore all day long b/c no two trips here are the same! So many books and crannies to get lost into!

Yelp
Great store with valuable and priceless jewels all throughout. I can't recommend it enough! If you want to shop local, this is a great place!

Aaron K.

Yelp
This is an amazing bookstore. They have three floors and an incredible assortment of stuff. I was especially impressed with the comics section -- I was there with a bunch of other comics fans, and we all found interesting stuff. They also have lots of poetry, mystery, history, CDs, and video games, though I was a bit disappointed with the science fiction and fantasy section. Overall this store reminds me of the used bookstores I used to visit as a kid, most of which have closed.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
What a selection! You think you've seen it all, then's there another room and another! Lisa W.'s review is right:it IS a labyrinth of a store! Great collection of books, records, CDs, and more! Definitely had a good time browsing around! Only cons? Small bathroom and not too much seating around!

Yelp
My girlfriend had been raving about this place for a while now. Finally when i made it down to Denton all the way from Duluth, MN it was one of the first places we explored. Recycled is a massive used and new book, record and cd store that is comprised of a couple floors. I'm a sucker for used book and record stores so this place was a treat to venture through. There are so many nooks and crannys that are unique to the old building it's in. Several of the records and books are categorized but it can take some time finding what you need or are looking for. We each found a record we liked and even picked out a couple cheap books. I like to take my times in stores like these so we spent a good 3 maybe 4 hours in there. There was lots of fun graffiti in there too which was enjoyable to read. Recycled is truly a unique place with something to offer for everyone! Its so much fun to explore and such a wide selection. This is one of my favorite used book stores I've been in.

Yelp
Admittedly, it's a rare day when I don't leave a bookstore with a stack of goodies up to my chin, so I've got a positive bias for places like this. Having said that, Recycled Books is a well-organized, well-stocked treasure trove of used books of even the most obscure of genres. Their staff is extremely helpful - a more recent example is when my fiancé and I showed up at Christmas to buy gifts for each other. We'd gone our separate ways in the store but wanted to ring up together. We explained this to the cashier, and set our respective piles onto the counter. She had us turn around, rang everything up, and then carefully wrapped and bagged everything separately so we wouldn't see what was in the other person's bag. To go to such great lengths to ensure our Christmas gifts remained a surprise was incredibly thoughtful and touching. That's just the kind of place RB is! Prices range depending on the type of book, but you can generally count on things being 50% off the cover price or less. I've gotten some truly unique, beautiful interior design books for criminally cheap. They always seem to have new stock, and with the pure square footage of the place, bibliophiles can easily spend a whole afternoon here. Fave spot!
