"This guide is heavy on seafood near waterfronts, but that’s what coastal New England (and Red 36) is all about. This marina spot is in a lively, airy space that looks out onto the Mystic River and the sound. So come, sit on the huge deck, soak in some sun, drink a tart and sweet hibiscus margarita, and have at a seafood tower and a plate of the crispiest beer-battered fish and chips. This move is a near 100% success rate in our books. " - tanya edwards

Google
been wanting to try & we were not disappointed! Great location & view - sit outside if you can. Lobster roll was delicious- crab cake amazing - nice Bloody Mary & wonderful staff. Definitely coming back!

Google
The food, views, and service were all outstanding. The portions were generous, and we loved everything we ordered, including lobster fritters, a hot and buttery lobster roll, fish and chips, and cod sandwich. Our server was attentive and courteous as well. The ambiance was laid back, with all the doors and windows open to make even the indoor seating feel like it was on the dock. We would come back again!

Google
Excellent food! The PEI mussels were done right, fresh, just off the oven and still plumpy. The broth filled up the room, was delicious. They brought us the spoon without asking, very nice touch. The Thai peanut calamari was good. Pro tip: Go at happy hour it’s off the main busy tourist area so it’s quiet and plenty of space. Beer for $7 and Whisky sour for $6 decent happy hour menu. Can’t beat that.

Google
The place, the view, the atmosphere is all great. A perfect place to go when its sunny out. I had the frose and it was really good. We had the ahi tuna poke bowl and wouldn’t order again, not great to be honest, and reaaally expensive for what it was. We also had the shrimp flatbread and it was delicious! Oysters were really good. And the lobster grilled cheese - well that one you really have to try.

Google
Had a very nice dinner at Red 36, highlighted by great service, Clam Chowder, and Lobster Mac 'n Cheese. Had a nice view from the back porch of the operable train bridge. Only two reasons I gave it 4 stars was because they charged per glass of soda -- which always just leave me feeling a bit taken advantage of, after spending $10 for us each to have a glass of Diet Coke and a refill.

James Grise

Google
We had three different types of oysters. Had the muscles and half dozen shrimp cocktail. Also had the oysters with mushroom risotto. Everything was delicious. We definitely come back for the seafood, great location, great location, great atmosphere and great views. Staff was exceptional and took care of us right away would definitely come back again

Google
Stopped by this waterfront restaurant on the way up to Boston. We ordered the lobster mac and cheese, bang bang shrimp, and calamari. Great food paired with great service and fantastic views led to a great lunch. Thank you very much for a pleasant afternoon.

Can’t recommend this place enough! It has great views of the water & friendly service. The paella was delicious and my gf loved the fish and chips

Yelp
Came by with my sister for a quickie drink. As always Red36 doesn't disappoint. Best ambiance even in the winter. I love to sit at the bar and have a drink and appetizers. This was my first time trying their cider sangria. It was delicious. Bartender went above and beyond making me an extra light drink so that I could stay longer but have less alcohol. I know all their bartenders, He was new but still was so pleasant. Love this place and it is still my number one.

Yelp
Very nice location on the waterfront. Very charming, modern New England feel. We popped in for Irish coffee and dessert. I look forward to coming back to try the amazing looking food that was coming out of the kitchen

Kristine L.

Yelp
Came here with a large work group for lunch. Originally we wanted to go to S&P but the wait was 2 hours so we came here instead. Very spacious and we got a big table with great view of the boats and water. There was lot parking nearby. Service was very good especially when managing large groups. There was 12 of us so we sat at 2 tables they pushed together. We shared the nachos and Thai peanut calamari which I really liked! The calamari was very light and crispy and peanuts were a nice touch. I ordered the lobster roll hot and buttery and it was delicious. Large chunks of fresh lobster on a buttered roll. The fries were also very seasoned and crispy. All around very good! I would come again if I find myself out in Mystic again.

Amy S.

Yelp
I love going here and feeling bougie! When I went in October we sat at the bar for a bit and I had a pumpkin beer! Then I ended up a little buzzed on the patio and ordered a lobster grilled cheese! AMAZING! I ate it all in one sitting and I believe it came with fries. This is my go-to place whenever we are in Mystic, I absolutely love the vibe!!!

Yelp
I've been dying to try out Red 36, and what better time than right before my fiance proposed?! My best friend and I came on a Saturday during linch and was successful in grabbing a table! They get busy for VERY good reasons! The restaurant is stunning, and the outside area? It's an easy winner for the most gorgeous place to dine in Mystic! We ordered clams, oysters, and their clam chowder. Since it was also my birthday, they surprised us with a slice of cheesecake, which was DELICIOUS! All the food was so fresh and we had to order a second round of the oysters! Highly recommend this place. Amazing service, great food, stunning views!

Michael W.

Yelp
I really tried to think of something I could find wrong with this restaurant but I couldn't! Everything from the energy, the staff, our waitress, the food, and the drinks - it was all 10/10. Come here on a nice day and sit outside to make it even better. Inside is still very nice tho. It feels very high end but casual and comfortable. Can't wait to come back!!

Sue H.

Yelp
If we lived in Mystic, this would be a regular happy hour spot for us. This brightly lit large restaurant had some great bargains, including $3 draft craft beer $6 mojito $8 nachos including the chicken, $6 Caesar and $8 wings. Our server was very friendly, checked in frequently and made great suggestions for our order. What more or could you want?! Oh the food was solid too!

Joanne S.

Yelp
Want to be by the water on a gorgeous afternoon on a Friday. This is the place to be to give you the taste of Mystic. We arrived on the later side so we landed a unbelievable Happy Hour. A friend of mine suggested driving to Red 36 in mystic. The portions are reasonable and can be shared. The view is unbelievable w boats anchored in the harbor. Every sit on the deck has remarkable views. The service was very good on the bar where you can only get the HH prices. The shrimp flatbread, calamari along w the fish and chips was so fresh and good. Along w the 3 drink specials your allowed to choice from. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
After getting a great tip on a good restaurant we found our selves beside the Mystic River in view of the historic draw bridge. My son and I were at the end of our day and Hungry! Crystal was great as were all of the staff very high class and professional ( don't worry, dress was casually nice). 1. I found a new addiction to my charcuterie board, salmon chips (flaked smoked salmon , aioli sauce , capers on fresh homemade chips I would fly back to Connecticut for the Lobster Carbonara ( fresh made pasta firm crunchy peas) my son was sad he didn't order it for himself . I was too because that meant I had to share. And shout out to the chef for putting Chili back on the menu. Yes, if you can go here.

Des D.

Yelp
If you're traveling to Mystic you NEED to check out Red 36. All other restaurants do not compare to the ambiance, service and quality of food you'll receive once you're here- HANDS DOWN! First off, this place is beautiful. It's situated right on the water overlooking docks with fun boats. The layout of this restaurant is so neat. There is a beautiful bar indoors and almost like a sunroom as you get further into the building. There are multiple levels as well. The coolest area though is their deck. Seriously so beautiful. I could sit out there all day! Our server was super attentive and patient with us while we were tending to our baby. Very family friendly here- I saw a lot of families at lunchtime. The food was delicious! My husband ordered a white clam chowder and it was so flavorful! He also got a lobster roll and said it was top tier in the state. I would agree as I had a few bites of his! For my lunch I got the korean pork lettuce wraps. This was outstanding!! For just an app this filled me up for my lunch. It had so much depth of flavor between the tender pork, pickled veggies, gochujang, and crisp lettuce! Easily would get again! I cannot wait to come back here! I'd love to try a cocktail and another entree item! The lobster Cobb salad is calling my name!!

Suzanne W.

Yelp
The waterfront setting is gorgeous in summer and winter ! The cocktails and food are always the best ! Service has always been excellent each time

Sana G.

Yelp
I visited for happy hour and had a very mediocre experience. I got the happy hour margarita and it was pretty good, but the happy hour food items were only okay with extremely small portions. The fish and chips only came with one piece of fish and the fried chicken was actually just three chicken tenders. I felt that the menu really misrepresented the fried chicken and the portions were deceivingly small. However, the seating and vibes are beautiful and service was fast.

Emily G.

Yelp
You can't beat the waterfront location! Plenty of outside and semi-outside seating (covered roof but open sides), and even the seats inside have nearly clear views of the river as well. We had oysters and a flatbread for appetizers -- the flatbread was a huge hit with the kids even though it had a lot of arugula on it. For meals we had a tuna tartare, lobster Cobb, tuna burger, and lobster grilled cheese. Only mild complaint was that the tuna burger was actually thin slices of seared tuna steak, so it was messy to eat (but still delicious). The dessert menu looked great but our birthday boy wanted to head out for ice cream. We will be back!

Tera D.

Yelp
Beautiful day and amazing food. Ordered food and items were out within 10 minutes lovely outside view of the water on a breezy sunny day.

Jessica K.

Yelp
The vibe of this restaurant was great upon walking in, although very busy inside. We were seated on the outside deck which looked nice, but the sun was very strong that day so it became too hot very quickly (bigger umbrellas or shade sails would be great). The white outdoor table was super sticky (maybe because they are painted?). It was annoying to deal with throughout lunch and felt gross. The utensils also did not look very clean. Service was just ok. One person in our party asked about dairy in the fried oysters, got a weird look from the waitress who stated there wasn't any, but she'd double check with the kitchen - turns out there was. The menu looked good and the raw bar oysters we had as an app were wonderful. However, our entrees left a lot to be desired. The tuna poke bowl had refrigerator cold rice and Mexican tasting guac that threw the dish off. I only ate the tuna off it, which had no flavor (poke is supposed to be tossed in a light sauce mixture). It was the worst version of poke I've ever ordered. The fish and chips was so over-fried it was dark brown - we should have sent it back and I regret not doing so or taking a photo of it. The lobster roll was tasteless, lacking seasoning and it was hard to know if were were even eating lobster. Was not worth the the bill at all and don't see ourselves visiting again.

Danielle R.

Yelp
My third time at this restaurant since 2018, it seems to have gone slightly down hill. Food was average. The clam chowder was lacking in clam (I've had it twice before and was better both times in the past) and also had way too much seasoning in it, made it taste cheap or from a can. The lobster grilled cheese was fine, I would have like it better if the guac was plain avocado or at least serviced on the side. Steak was good and cooked perfectly. I would have like more of a char on the outside. Ambiance was amazing, right by the water it would have been nice if the food was up to that standard.

Morgan F.

Yelp
I love Red 36. They also deliver a good experience. Their food is very good and fairly priced. The lobster roll was great. Their fish tacos are good as well. We had the clam bucket appetizer and it was great. We also had the crab dip, great. The service was a bit slow and the tables are a bit cramped but they are very busy. Love it here. Nice view of the water as well.

Linda B.

Yelp
5 stars all around. Burgers were excellent and cooked to our preference. Gorgeous water views and attentive service. Lots of parking.

David W.

Yelp
Beautiful place, right on the water. Food was delicious and drinks were very good. We had the raw oysters, the fried oysters, and the artichoke spinach dip with homemade chips. Every bite was delicious! Look forward to eating it all again on our next trip here.

Barbara B.

Yelp
We enjoyed our lunch at Ted 36. It was a little pricy for what we got but the fact we were in Mystic probably added value to the meal. The mussels were very plump but the sauce was underwhelming. My friend enjoyed her tuna melt. If we come again I would order something different.

Rob B.

Yelp
Aloha, Mystic CT is known for lobster (and oysters), and yes Red 36 does the job very well. A cute dockside restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating with a fun bar, all with great views. I will definitely be back. Our first day having lunch in one of our favorite little towns. Every bite was delicious. I had the lobster salad while hubby had the lobster roll and we shared a platter of oysters, all so yummy. Enjoy!

Steven C.

Yelp
A super cool location and ambiance at this place. Great service and decent value. I had the poke salad for lunch. It was OK. Hard to understand the grapefruit that was from a jar and acidic as heck. Other than that, it was a solid presentation.

Sam W.

Yelp
Service was so fast. Like FAST FAST but not rushing at all they just have staff that are on top of their game! I ordered seared scallops and it was DELICIOUS. Adorable setting as well and loved the view of the water

Ally G.

Yelp
We went during the height of the pandemic, so I apologize if this review is a little (lot) late, but Red 36 popped up on my review suggestions and I wanted to share my thoughts. There is always a wait. There's a long line. You can sit at the bar and have a drink while you wait, however. Ambiance is enchanting. Lots of parking. Tons of outdoor waterfront seating and plenty inside as well if the weather doesn't cooperate. Very seafood forward, although there were a few other options. Food and service was great and they were very observant of masking and covid protocols. My son and I had both a hot and a cold lobster roll and went halvsies- I'm pretty particular about my lobster rolls (I prefer the cold ones), and this was excellent, truly the best I'd had in a very long time. I strongly recommended Red 36 to a coworker who was asking for Mystic recommendations a couple years later. I hope their quality has endured these past few years, if/when I return to Mystic I'll definitely be returning!

Carla O.

Yelp
This is a very nice picture worthy place, but that's about it. I had their oysters and calamari to share and their scallops as my main dish . I'm not giving this place more than 3 stars because nothing was memorable or outstanding . Even my margarita was watered down. The food lacked flavor and my party of 4 did not have much more to say about their own dishes , everything was blah . I wanted to like this place as it was recommended to me by a local but it just didn't do it for me. I wouldn't come back.

Catt S.

Yelp
Had a lovely lunch with some family out on the deck. The view was fabulous. Our server was attentive and prompt with bringing the food. The food was delicious. Can't wait to come back next time I'm visiting family in the area.

Ron K.

Yelp
Went to Mystic for their Christmas Boat parade..We had heard that Red 36 would be a good place to view..Great experience! Food was great..I had a steak and my wife had the Ahi Tuna..Both cooked to perfection..Highlight of the night was when I bumped our table when I was sitting down.My wife's wine glass tipped over and broke right on the table top..Within seconds Chris dressed in a Red 36 white hoodie was there..He swooped in had the mess taken care of in a minute and there was a fresh replacement drink on our table..Whatever they are paying Chris for what he gives to the restaurant is not enough...

Brian T.

Yelp
Every time we come to Red 36 it's great! It is very crowded but the energy is amazing and the food and drinks are yummy. GEZA the Hungarian Tom Cruise from Cocktail is a wonderful human being, really makes sitting at the bar the best seat in the house. They also have a mixologist on staff (don't remember his name) that was masterful at making drinks. Best añejo old fashioned I've ever had. Red 36 is a bit off the beaten path in Mystic, but well worth getting away from Main Street and enjoying a harbor view with a great staff, food and drinks. See you again soon!

Michael R.

Yelp
Love Red 36, go back once a year while in the area, great view on the water, nice cocktails, food is always good, fresh and hot. Great seafood, had a lobster roll and it was nice and stuffed with claw and body meat.

Jeannine M.

Yelp
Quaint, cute, rustic seafood restaurant hidden on the Main Stretch in Mystic by the docks. Best Salmon & purple potato salad I've ever had. Drinks were on point & got you lit. Only issue is we were a party of 9 & our checks were so messed up that it took an hour to resolve & I think I still overpaid but was frustrated from the chaos. I'll definitely go back but ask for separate checks in the beginning. Our waitress never asked us. Regardless of that, it's a must go to restaurant.

Kate N.

Yelp
The Tuesday lunch rush was quite crowded, we ended up waiting 30 minutes. Overall, we had a good experience! The drinks were great, the food we got was good & our server did a nice job. It was super busy and we were served quickly and efficiently. There was a few call-outs I hope they can improve/consider: We were ordering drinks and appetizers to share and informed our server we would order a bunch and just share. We ordered the bang bang shrimp, and it was only 4 pieces, for $18. (There were 3 of us) I wish she would've informed our group of this and we would've chosen something different. The outdoor chairs were incredibly difficult to maneuver and a few of them were broken. I felt the price point was a bit on the high side and probably wouldn't return due to this alone. $98 plus tip for 2 cocktails, 1 beer, 4 shrimp, crab dip and a flatbread. Like I said, the food was good, but wasn't this price point good. Appreciate the waterfront dining, and you're definitely paying the price for it.

Michele V.

Yelp
Excellent seafood with lovely ambiance. Took my daughter for a glass of wine, clam chowder, calamari and a lobster roll. Everything was cooked to perfection.

Glorimar L.

Yelp
Went for an early lunch at Red 36, no reservations, off season and didn't disappoint. Not such a large crowd and was sat down "outside porch" but enclosed heated area and was pleasantly surprised, felt nice and comfortable. Liked the presentation at the table; nice and simple. Menu also was not overwhelmingly large and had items for all. My dish was perfect since I was fasting and wanted to eat limited amount of carbs. My party also enjoyed their options as well. Always nice views, ample parking and great ambiance.

Cherie R.

Yelp
The place is in a great location, water, and boats right there. The atmosphere is great. However, the food and drinks leave a lot to be desired. The drinks were small, weak, and lacked creativity. The lobster in the lobster rolls was tough, chewy, and 'fishy'. Also, they didn't provide drawn butter. With all the great places in Mystic, it's a shame that this place falls short. Thank you for letting me provide constructive criticism.

Ruslman L.

Yelp
Red36 the place in Mystic ... Gets the Gold, it's fantastic! Bottom Line Up Front: This restaurant has everything going for it: great tasting food, happy and helpful servers, location, atmosphere, and the price is right. To be honest,Red36 exceeded expectations. We ordered the Sesame Salmon Burger, the Mexican Salad with chicken, Korean Pork Lettuce Wraps, and a side of Fried Brussels Sprouts. Everything was very tasty and excellently prepared; we ate every morsel. We liked our food so much we had to try desert. We sampled the 1) Strawberry Shortcake, 2) Brownie Sundae, 3) Turtle Cheesecake and the 4) Key Lime Pie Cheesecake. All were fabulous, but in our group, the shortcake and sundae were the top two deserts. The restaurant is clean and the staff was very helpful. There is plenty of parking on site, but get there early as I predict that it will fill up quickly. We sat up on the outer terrace that overlooks the marina and the rotating railroad bridge. The view was mesmerizing and relaxing. If you are in town, passing by, or need a quick divert, I highly recommend this place. Stop on by, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!

Allison K.

Yelp
Another amazing experience at R36! They are on Resy now which is so convenient for the off season. Food service and ambiance were outstanding once again. Fairly priced for the experience. Will continue to return. Love this place!

Paul B.

Yelp
Great dinner. Great view. Had to ask for pasta to be recooked. But waiter was excellent and accommodating. Get there early if you can, especially if there are more than two in your party. Getting a table in the deck is pretty easy for two. Plenty of dueces. Fish is fresh, lobster roll outstanding with just butter. I dont recommend it any other way. Salmon also fresh and perfectly cooked with a purple potato and haricot verts fresh and excellent as a side. Highly recommend!

Paige P.

Yelp
I worked here for a year in the past and I must say they really care about the service and food provided. All fresh ingredients. Clean kitchen. It's the only restaurant I've worked at that I will actually go back to as a customer! Food is great. A bit overpriced due to the tourist attraction but great if you want to splurge. The drinks are great too.

Susan F.

Yelp
Excellent service, and the food was good, but there were some menu items that repeated strong and significant herbs/spices which made them taste the same and left me wishing I had ordered something different. I would definitely go back and try something else.

Laurie R.

Yelp
You're right on the water, outdoor and indoor seating great atmosphere, pet friendly outdoor on the porch. Fun bar scene and the best lobster roll I've ever had!

Tiffany G.

Yelp
Great lunch here. We had Oysters of the day, Lobster Roll, Lobster Cobb, and soup & salad and all were excellent. Cocktails were also well made. After lunch we sat outside in the sun and the staff was very accommodating. Highly recommend.

Sara W.

Yelp
This is my go to spot when visiting Mystic. The food is always good and I love sitting by the water.

Kristina G.

Yelp
FOOD IS SO GOOD!!!!!! We sadly went after dark so we didn't get to enjoy the view, but inside the restaurant was decorated very nicely. I normally don't order scallops, but our server was raving about them so I decided to try them and they were amazing!! The risotto was great and the scallops were cooked perfectly. She also recommended the lobster mac and cheese. This was so good we forgot to take a picture before we ate half of it lol. It was on the expensive side, but a nice sized portion and there were big pieces of lobster in it. Our server was so sweet and really knew the menu. Loved Red 36 and will definitely be back!

Tiffany N.

Yelp
First time trying this restaurant when passing by Mistic, CT. The food is excellent and the ambiance is very nice. My favorite spot to stop by again the next time we go y tu o Massachusetts.

Jason P.

Yelp
Any one recommendation from my friends Kathleen, Karen or Catherine would be enough to persuade me. When all three tell me that Red 36 in Mystic is a great restaurant, it skyrockets towards the top of my CT Try List even though I live an hour away. Red 36 is a seafood restaurant in a part of Mystic I had never previously thought to visit. It's on the opposite side of the water and further coast-ward from places like Sift Bakery and Oyster Club. It never drew my attention because it's not in the shop and restaurant-heavy area of Mystic. A good thing about being part of the Yelp and CT Foodie Community, is that your friends help you eliminate your blind spots. Because of how it's situated in the harbor, Red 36 basically has a 360 degree view of the water and docked boats. The inside looks modern and nice. Service was very good. When I visited, I was in the middle of a food crawl and I wasn't crazy hungry. I figured a few different raw bar items and a local Beer'd IPA would be the way to go. I ordered shrimp cocktail, a cherrystone and a Mystic Oyster. The raw bar items were perfect. As I've gotten older, I've really gravitated to raw bar when I visit seafood restaurants. Fish dishes can be hit or miss, but raw bar at a great place rarely disappoints. The Beer'd Double IPA called "Dogs and Boats" was great too. Now that I know about Red 36, I'll be back! Add my recommendation to the chorus. Five Stars

Kun W.

Yelp
The food here is amazingly good. Nice ambiance with super friendly service. Strongly recommend

Brian E.

Yelp
This is a great place on a normal day. It really shows its quality when you go on a holiday. Mother's Day is crazy for a restaurant. We went with a party of 10 and they did a very good job. Food was great, service was really good, and they create an enjoyable experience.

G P.

Yelp
10 out of 10 for the location and nice view. Nice spot to grab a drink. 2 out of 10 for the food. Just bad overall. What a shame that management chose to not invest in a good chef. The prices are high as well and quality is on par with chain restaurants like Chilis or TGIF's.

Stuart H.

Yelp
It's alright. The views are great and we enjoyed our visit. We had heard so many rave reviews about it being the best place along the shoreline, but that proved not to be true at least based on what I got to eat. It was alright and maybe for overly touristy Mystic it is great, but compared to some of the places a little drive away it is just OK. We prefer the Daniel Packer Inn & Tavern just across the drawbridge.
