Visiting San Francisco: Suggested Itinerary (Updated 2025)

"When I wanted a harbor tour I considered Red and White Fleet for an organized cruise of San Francisco Bay—their tours start around $38—while noting public ferries are a cheaper option for similar views." - Matthew Kepnes

What a wonderful way to spend an evening! I’m in town for a work conference and had a free evening so decided to book the sunset cruise. It was a delight in every way! All the staff were friendly and helpful; the vessel was very clean and views from the top deck were stellar. Well worth the (very reasonable) price and an all-around terrific experience from start to finish. Thank you!

I went for sunset cruise with my partner. It was a very good experience. They covered all places that they mentioned. The weather also complimented the experience very well. The washrooms on board were clean and well maintained. Overall, a good value for money.

My wife and I went here for an afternoon cruise on a Tuesday in July. The weather was sunny and windy but it was an enjoyable trip. We got great pictures of Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge and downtown San Francisco. In my opinion, families, couples and groups will have an enjoyable educational tour with the Red and White Fleet. We will do the cruise again on a next trip to San Francisco.

We took the Red and White Golden Gate Sunset Cruise, and it was truly unforgettable! The journey kicked off with a stunning close-up view of the Golden Gate Bridge, where the boat paused to give everyone a chance to capture amazing photos. Along the way, the crew pointed out occasional whales and sea lions—such a special treat! The views of the San Francisco skyline were absolutely breathtaking, first in the golden glow of sunset and then glittering beautifully as evening fell. The cruise offers two spacious decks, including a dining area where we enjoyed food we brought from outside. Others sipped on coffee and drinks they brought along, creating a cozy, relaxed vibe. Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are available onboard. Hot chocolate from the bar was a lifesaver as the temperature dipped—it was delicious and warming! Note the top deck is open-air with seating, and it's hands down the best spot for panoramic views, so make sure to grab a seat early. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the Golden magic of San Francisco from the water!

Be realistic, its a group boat/ship and not a luxury cruise like some folks expect. With that, I booked the 4th of July deal and had a blast. Crew was very attentive, friendly with kids, and overall happy (clearly, great leadership). I've had plenty of negative experiences with these types of boats/crew but pleasantly surprised by clean bathrooms, I felt safe, and the mixed drinks were fantastic. Not overbooked, which was also a surprise. Captain spotted whales for us and overall, pleasant. Casual dress but bring warm clothes, think layers because it'll either be hot in the sun or freezing cold winds.

What a day!! What a trip! I went on this boat tour with my friend for Mother’s Day, and it was absolutely amazing. The ride was full of emotions, fresh breeze, and breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Unforgettable memories for Mother’s Day - I couldn’t have asked for more. So worth it! Everything is very well organized. The register stand was very easy to find by red and white colors. Boarding was fast, and check-in was easy just scan the barcode on your phone making the whole experience smooth and stress-free. Boat has plenty of seating, and the team is super friendly always ready to help take photos. The guide and the tour itself were easy to listen and informative. We booked through a Groupon deal for the one-hour tour and I can’t wait to come back again.

My wife and I had a great time on the cruise. Check in was easy. Plenty of seating with great views. Cruising under the Golden Gate Bridge at sunset was amazing. Would definitely take this cruise again.

I took the San Francisco Alcatraz and Bay Tour by Red and White Cruise in August 2024, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The cruise offered breathtaking views of iconic landmarks including the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and the San Francisco skyline. The commentary was informative and well-paced, enhancing the overall experience with rich historical insights. The boat was clean, comfortable, and spacious, with both indoor and outdoor seating options. The ride was smooth, and the staff was courteous and professional. I especially appreciated the flexibility of timing, allowing us to enjoy the day at our own pace. This tour perfectly blends history, sightseeing, and relaxation. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a local, it’s a must-do in San Francisco. Highly recommended!
