Another diner voted by Yankee Magazine as one of the 15 best in New England. This one, opened in 1922, belongs for a lot of reasons.
On another top-down day, Pots & Pans and I made the journey. Located in downtown Manchester, with parking on the street. Make sure you pay for the parking. Inside is smallish, with 6 side tables, and about ten stools. Be prepared to wait for an open spot.
Well, we walk in, and I announce loudly to EVERYONE, "He's a virgin (more on that later) and he's a big Yankee fan". There was a smattering of boos, etc. Finally get a table, and Robin is our server. I again announce loudly, "He's a virgin. Send me a young wench." Robin takes our orders, and gives me a nod. She goes back to the front, rings a big bell loudly, and says, "Our big New York Yankee fan is hereby devirginized!" It's part of the schtick., but P&P hadn't read up on it. He does say, "I'm not that big." However, he doesn't refute anything else?????
The food - lots of it and very good. My Hash Benny was great, his Smoky Pig Breakfast Bowl was also a big hit.
Another draw is that many famous people have eaten here. Presidents, would-be presidents, movie stars, all kind of famous people whose pics adorn the walls. Def a must see.
