Where to Eat and Drink in and Around Lakeview

"Red Bird, the 2023 winner of the National Fried Chicken Festival, is the real deal. The bird gets a wet batter coating, prepped 24 hours before landing hot and juicy on the plate. The result is white meat, on the bone and tenders, that is astonishingly juicy. The crust crackles at the bite, not too thick, just right. There are sandwiches and sides like red beans and onion rings too. As for the local brand, which also has locations in Covington and Denham Springs, that crispy skin is a slightly burnished shade of mahogany." - Beth D'Addono

"Three B’s Burger & Wine Bar is a casual neighborhood bistro, with a comfy front patio, a wine-on-tap system at the bar and a menu of burgers, gourmet dogs (try the Boardwalk with chili), and dishes that pair well with wine. Specialty burgers include the psychedelic (sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, and roasted garlic aioli), but really everything is special at this neat spot." - Beth D'Addono

Google
Good fried chicken, great service, and a BAR. The chicken doesn’t have a heavy batter, and comes either spicy or mild. I tried the spicy - which was good, but not amazing. (Next time I try the original.) The pieces were well-cooked and juicy; the sizes were nice, and the red beans were FANTASTIC. The prices were very fair, competitive with other chicken places. They have other items on the menu - I can’t review them because I’ve never had them, but it was a surprisingly wide selection. The atmosphere - I came in between lunch and dinner, so it was fairly empty. They play blues music (not too loud), and have comfortable seating with a lot of red neon inside. It’s cheery inside (see photos). The bar is at the center of the dining area, and has a modest selection of liquors, beer, and one or two daiquiri machines. Great for nailing a mild buzz while enjoying your food. The service - well, I was there when it was fairly empty, but they were very friendly, prompt, and courteous - can’t ask for more than that! I will come back for the regular bone-in chicken, and try other things in the future. I’ll update the review when I do. Overall, I’m impressed! This is not really a chain - just this location in Lakeview and one across the lake somewhere. They may want to try one in Metairie, move in on Gus’ territory…

Google
I really wanted to like this chicken but at the end I wasn't blown away. We came at an off hour so I think the chicken wasn't the freshest. Tasted overcooked and over fried. It was also quite expensive. I think their bird box was a better deal with two pieces and a side for $5.99 Cash and credit accepted. You can order at the register or at one of the digital kisoks. Soda is free refill. There's 3 large TVs with sports games on.

Google
Delicious fried chicken…like my mama used to make! We were split on how much we liked it. It was hot, juicy, crispy spicy crunchy on the fried chicken skin. My son and I liked it. My husband likes Popeyes better. Tge Okra were hot and plentiful! Mac n Cheese side, like homemade. Coleslaw was bland, lacking in seasoning and flavor. Rolls were the bomb!

Google
I had a awesome experience at Red Bird Fried chicken .Ms.Bunny and the crew were very friendly and professional. They made me and my daughter feel very welcome. The chicken was delicious and the entire atmosphere from the music to the setup was a vibe. If you're a foodie like me put them on your Agenda.

Google
The reviews of this place are very confusing. Seems like they still have old reviews from the previous burger joint, Three Bs, that was at this location. I actually didn't know it had been taken over by Red Bird, and what an unfortunate occurrence. The chicken is waaay under seasoned, the red beans were comically under seasoned and luckily they supply salt and pepper to help make them edible. Their signature sauce may or may not be a rip off of Chicken Guy's sauce. The fries were decent. The service is a strange one. You place your own order on their tablets, and then you're asked if you want to tip. Then, you find out you get your own drinks, sauces, silverware, etc. They bring your food out and then you throw all of your trash and dishes away. Not really worth your time.

Google
Great burger, fast service, fries portion was small...seems like they could add more. Update 2nd visit: still great burgers...got the Tots this time, solid portion.. ***Now Redbird chicken

Google
So bad. Chicken was soggy and inedible. I fed the remainder to my dog. It’s so expensive too. I ordered on Uber eats and my order was over $50 for food for 2 people and hardly got any food. Tasteless and forgot all of my sauces!!

Michael Brady

Google
There are plenty of Original Burgers on the menu. It's a little extra to get a fried egg on top I would highly recommend it. Make sure they put it on the inside of the bun though. The fries were a little greasy but that's a style a few at our table preferred. There is plenty of seating and outside isn't so bad because it's covered with fans.

Yelp
Third time was a charm. Had the tenders and smashed potatoes and size of onion rings. Onion rings were exceptional. Tenders were delicious. I'll return! Ambiance is fine, more geared towards to go and self serve, but feels sort of vague. Staff was kind.

Yelp
I brought my mom here and we got the 3 jumbo tender combo with coleslaw, dark meat combo with red beans and extra sides of onion rings and mashed potatoes. PROS: The restaurant is very clean, the kiosks make it easy to order and customize your meal and the food is reasonably priced (3 tenders was $12.75 and the dark meat was $8.75). I also appreciated that the onion rings were huge. The fried chicken was very juicy and my mom said her tenders were good. CONS: Just like other reviews, I would say that my "spicy" chicken was not spicy at all. Also, the red beans and mashed potatoes were bland. They could have used at the least, some salt, at the most, many other spices.

Yelp
Visited Redbird on a Wednesday afternoon and the dining room was empty. Restaurant decor is cute and it was clean inside. I was greeted by an employee when I entered; I told her it was my first time there, and she explained the whole menu to me. I chose the nugget combo meal with a side of onion rings. Food came out hot, I had no complaints. I enjoyed the smoky ketchup sauce and their signature sauce. What stood out for me: good service, and their rolls. They are going to open a location on the Bestbank soon.
google avatar

Lacey D.

Yelp
I would give the food 3-3 1/2 stars but the service brought it up to a 4. There was one employee in the front and the rest in the kitchen. She was never at rest, constantly hustling around checking on customers, refilling the ice, wiping things down. Very friendly. We tried the: dark meat chicken, macaroni, okra and onion rings. The chicken was a touch dry but the crust was delicious. The macaroni was not good- mushy and no flavor. The okra and onion rings weren't seasoned but were fried nicely, and once we added some salt and pepper they were great. I would go again.

Yelp
I kept seeing this on Instagram so I finally decided to try them. Apparently they were the winners of last year's fried chicken fest so I was intrigued. I went on a Saturday around 1pm and it was completely empty. I ordered the 2 piece dark combo with fries and my husband got the tenders with onion rings. They have a little section with self serve sauces like smoked ketchup, buffalo, and their version of what looks like canes sauce. The food was cooked fresh and we tried frozen margaritas which are $4 all summer. The chicken was good but I can't see myself ever really wanting to come back honestly
google avatar

Yelp
Update to the previous review, So I posted this same review on my Facebook and Instagram. Now I see how they won at the chicken fest. It was by default. Some of the other businesses that were in the contest their application got misplaced. Sounds like sabotage to me.

Yelp
I'm a content creator @tamlovestoeat And when I noticed this chicken spot open up in Lakeview I had to try it out. But when I seen the won Best Fried Chicken at the 2023 FCF I came even quicker to try them out. Forat the customer service was great. Everyone greeted customers at the door and even asked if theyve been there before to help them 10/10. I ordered a 3pc dark and sat at the bar. Babyyyy that chicken was so flaky and crispy and SEASONED. It was so good it reminded me of Gus's Fried Chicken. The Chef Brandon was there and I wanted to tell him the chicken was amazing but I'm shy. Anyways they have a full bar which is nice and specialty cocktails. It's a very large place for family gathering or even to watch the game ans eat chicken. I will DEFINITELY BE BACK. Follow me on IG @tamlovestoeat for more reviews

Yelp
Y'all there's a reason they cleaned up at Fried Chicken Fest. I got a dark meat combo which was a drum and a thigh, one side (I got mac n cheese obvi) and a sweet rooster roll, and it was only $7.99?! We also got some nuggets to split; they were hella juicy and delicious, especially dipped in that honey mustard. My husband got the spicy chicken sandwich. He said it wasn't very spicy but he'd also had some very spicy food earlier that day so might have affected it haha. The staff is so frickin nice. They are helpful and so sweet and accommodating. This might become one of our go-to spots now
google avatar

Arthur W.

Yelp
It's a chicken sandwich. Plain and simple. And in this case simple is all that's needed. I got the combo which cost about 13 bucks. That includes a sandwich, one side, and a drink, The sandwich was dressed with pickles and spicy mayo on a sesame seed bun. It's not spicy at all but still tasty. The chicken and the fries were perfectly fried and seasoned. There are kiosks that make ordering the food very easy. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. This restaurant is very cool. It reminds me of a cool bar or classic diner. Since they have happy hour, everyday and all day, I'll be back to sit at the bar next time.

Yelp
I'm honestly not sure how they won fried chicken festival. I got the two piece spicy all white meat with macaroni and cheese as my side and we also got a side of onion rings. The onion rings were good and definitely freshly made and battered but pricey if you get a side of them. The chicken had spice when you ate the meat right next to the skin but it wasn't what I would label as spicy. The roll is fried and was super greasy. The macaroni and cheese was okay but nothing special. We probably won't be back.

Bruce C.

Yelp
The good: The onion rings were pretty good and the chicken pieces are fairly large. Service was friendly. The bad: The chicken is very wet. When you bite into it or pull apart a wing, a large amount of liquid gushes out. Gross. Also, we didn't find the "spicy" to be spicy at all. The red beans were tasteless.

Lisa C.

Yelp
worst meal ever! how do you screw up a salad? the tenders weren't cooked enough and had a terrible taste. they were white, not crisp at all!! they have the absolute cheapest plastic utensils. you couldn't cut the tenders nor stab the lettuce. there's also no way to cut the chicken in a plastic basket. I left the whole salad. and I was starving! my husbands four piece meal was two wings, a pitiful leg and a small thigh. he couldn't even eat the red beans. said they were terribl. I'll never go back. don't know how they're expanding!! should have left it as burgers!! Should have known it was bad when we walked in at 6:30 and the place was empty
google avatar

E H.

Yelp
Not bad. We probably won't order from here again just because it's not very healthy, but if you're in the mood for fried chicken it's pretty good. Onion rings were pretty. Chicken was nice. Spicy sandwiches were VERY spicy, but all good. The coleslaw was a bit old-ish tasting. The rolls are deep fried yeast rolls, so probably a pass. I do wish our 18 dollar dinners would've come in a plate and not a paper bag, but that's just me. Overall, it was okay.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Nice fried chicken here that is better than Popeyes regular but not quite as spicy as Popeye's spicy chicken or the Metairie location of Gus's Fried Chicken. The whole fried chicken is a way better idea than the chicken tenders as the tenders I had were on the overcooked side and didn't have the nice juicy flavor as the whole chicken pieces that were way more moist. So overall they have nice whole fried chicken and mediocre tenders but the worst bad news is their biscuits seem to be more like rolls which is great if you like rolls but bad if you wanted a biscuit. This is the second location of this restaurant with the original location being in Covington, LA. Redbird Fried Chicken has taken over the space formerly occupied by Three B's Burgers.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
The place was clean and the staff was cordial. I ordered a two piece with mac and cheese and red beans. I wanted a thigh and wing and they brought out a three piece with two legs. The chicken was full of grease and the crust was inconsistent. Sides were so so.

J C.

Yelp
Yuck. Dirty. Nasty food. Definitely will not be returning. Seems like everyone else already knows because when we were there for dinner, not one person came into the restaurant at dinner time. No to go pickups. No eating in. No customers. Literally for the 30isg minutes we were there only the side door opened for the staff to go smoke. Not one person entered the restaurant. Guess we were late to figure out how bad it was. Redbird was good when they first opened, we hadn't been in a while (last experience wasn't very good either) but decided to try it again. If you don't believe this review, and want to try for yourself, look to see if staff is on the side smoking and if there is anyone else in the restaurant.
google avatar

Rashad S.

Yelp
Heard about them winning at the Chicken fest and wanted to give them a try. I really really wanted to like the chicken. I ordered spicy but is was bland. The breast was hot but the wings were warm. Chicken is supposed to be cooked to order. My friend had to ask for another leg because it was overcooked. The fries were decent and the onion rings were the best I ate. They were fresh and homemade. Unfortunately, we were disappointed and took one for the team. Maybe it was an off day? My friend's daughter liked the gumbo and sandwich so that's a plus. As far as the chicken, leaves a lot to be desired.
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Nice place and really good service, the chicken was pretty good but not as spicey as I was hoping All in all pretty good
google avatar

Meghan D.

Yelp
Redbird is a great new addition to Harrison Avenue with a nice outside area and a large bar. When you walk in, there are kiosks or you can order at the counter. I ordered the tenders and it came with three tenders, a side, and a roll. The tenders were flavorful and juicy. For my side, I got the mac and cheese and it was delicious! The roll was good, but would have been perfect with some butter or honey. Overall, it was a great experience and I will be back!
google avatar

Roger K.

Yelp
yesterday i read how Redbird Fried Chicken had won the best fried chicken award at the fried chicken festival and I had to try it. I went online last night, placed my order and headed to the restaurant. When I got there, my food was ready. I loaded up on some of the special sauces and headed home. I ordered the fried chicken combo with fries a roll and drink. It was priced reasonably and I was really impressed with the size of the chicken. I have to say - this may have been my favorite fried chicken I've ever had. It was spiced to perfection, crispy, and paired well with the sauces. The fries weren't great, but that probably has more to do with the time it took between them being made and my eating them. I didn't like the roll - it looks like they deep fry it and it tasted too oily. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Red Bird won at fried chicken fest, so I had to check it out. It's a small, yet nice, place. Took my son on a Saturday afternoon. They had TVs around playing college football. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was good. My son had "The Signature" sandwich, while I had a 3 piece spicy dark, with mac and cheese. The chicken was really good. They mean spicy, when they say spicy. The mac and cheese was just ok. The real surprise was the biscuit. It's basically a big beignet. It was sweet, soft, and flaky, but not dry. My son tore the food up. After he finished his sandwich and fries, he started eating my chicken. Red Bird is a win. I'd suggest giving it a try.
google avatar

Trey W.

Yelp
Chicken was very good. I had a 2 piece plus a breast. The side of Gumbo worked for me.
google avatar

Theresa B.

Yelp
Delicious! Flavored so well- we are hooked! The sides are delicious and the rolls seem harmless but they are ridiculously flavorful. Good on you Redbird. We order all the way uptown and your flavor still holds up

Gabrielle A.

Yelp
Got it for pickup , so delish . If y'all like salty juicy chicken , give it a try . Also love the bun , a little sweet but super yummy . I like that it's different than going to Popeyes , cause sometimes you want a taste of something different , you know ?
google avatar

Ceane P.

Yelp
Tried this place since it just moved into the neighborhood. The chicken flavor was pretty good although a few pieces were overcooked. We also got a variety of sides to taste. The red beans and mac and cheese were pretty good. The gumbo didn't really taste bad but I also wouldn't classify it as gumbo. We ordered in advance and went to pick up. The order was ready and they brought it to us right away. The place was a nice size but pretty quiet. While I enjoyed it overall the I wouldn't say the quality is worth the higher price of the food.

Phillipa E.

Yelp
first time my husband and I have eaten here. I found the food delicious, as did my husband. the workers were very polite and interested in the customers. I will definitely return. I loved their fried bread they serve with the chicken!!
google avatar

Michelle O.

Yelp
The chicken was really good. The sides were not good. I'll just come for the chicken. Great place nice atmosphere. Great staff and food drinks.

Kurt S.

Yelp
the 2 piece special was $19.27 for a thigh and a wing, 2 very tiny sides and a regular drink! I needed a magnifying glass to see the chicken and it was average at best! The attached photo shows both pieces!!
google avatar

Ethan N.

Yelp
I like how the food is served. You order yourself on a screen and then the waitress brings you your food. The fries are pretty good and the chicken is good too. I didn't think the biscuit was very good, but it wasn't terrible. The mac n cheese isn't too good either, but again not terrible. I like how there are a plethora of sauces. Their house sauce just tastes like chick-fil-a sauce.
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
I have to agree with a previous review - how did they win best fried chicken? I got 3 piece combo dark meat. The dark meat was dry! How can that be??? I ordered spicy. One piece had some spice, the other two did not. The sauces - meh - "signature" was Russian dressing, honey mustard ok but nothing to write home about. Ambiance was fine - clean - not loud. The biscuit was good and different - sweet, crispy on the edges. Gumbo and red beans were OK. The service was very nice! I will give them that. Two combos and two drinks and tip = $30.
google avatar

Love N.

Yelp
Chicken was really good. I went in right after they opened. My chicken was really fresh. Full of flavor. I want to go back so I can try different sides. I had the seasoned fries, they were really good and crispy. Need to try the red beans as well as the Mac and cheese.

Jamilah A.

Yelp
Purposely ordered a mix of things from the menu. I kind of thought it'd be hard to get fried chicken wrong. Wrong. Absolutely no flavor...I guess that's why there's at least 10 sauce options. They also messed up my order and I kinda checked a little bit before I left. Where the red beans lol? I probably spared myself tbh. It was dead in there on a Saturday around dinner time. Really wish I could get my money back ..I did take out and even tipped. Last time I listen to my yt coworkers

Julian R.

Yelp
Ever walk into a major food space in the restaurant zone on a Friday night and wish you run? Eight o'clock and the place was a ghost town. Six or eight computer order screens sat staring into space. Menu is wet batter fried chicken and you better want chicken-no burger that had made the space popular, no collard greens or okra sides that relate to Creole cooking. The formula is not working and no management or staff collecting feedback and adapting their approach with change. Bye Bye birdie!

Yaira D.

Yelp
I got three plates Tenders were delicious Chicken plate was heavenly Nuggets were.. ok Mac n cheese needs salt Fries are immaculate & the sauce bar is full of options Service was quick & they have ipads set up so you dont have to order up front Place is roomy and family-friendly even on game Sundays

jason s.

Yelp
Very fresh and juicy, great customer service My only complaint is that they have regular and spicy, I ordered spicy but I can't imagine anyone would find it spicy. If you have both varieties I should notice some heat in the spicy version

Ty W.

Yelp
I just want to take the time out to acknowledge and appreciate the tenacity and hospitality of Brandon M. at the restaurant. He truly made my experience something special, words cannot fully describe how much he has impacted my experience at this store I hope when you visit he gives you the same treatment. A-1!!!

Bliss B.

Yelp
Chicken and sides were great. Be careful at lunch time - there can be a bit of a line.

N O.

Yelp
We ordered 2 combos to go, one is regular spice and a spicy. Both are flavorful and my girl liked the side of Mac & cheese. I ordered dark meat and I really liked how crispy they came out. My side of onion rings were not crispy but I'll try it again when we eat in the restaurant. Cheap, so a great spot for quick dinner!

Kale P.

Yelp
so, service was bad. no greeter, no word on when the food was ready. we had to go over to the kitchen to get someone to bring it. the food was not all that appetizing either. a lot of it was pretty bland. they messed up my burger even though it was direct on the menu. I wouldn't recommend.

Zukuri M.

Yelp
I heard that Red Bird Fried Chicken had recently won this years bes fried chicken award at the Fried Chicken Festival and I was eager to try the chicken. I order a 2 piece spicy white with onion rings. The chicken was flavorful and juicy through and through. It taste like it was brined and marinated for a long time. The onion rings were crispy and slightly sweet. They paired well with the signature house sauce. The roll they gave me was crispy yet moist. And to top it off the watermelon lemonade was refreshing. I recommend this place highly and I'll definitely try again!!!

Byron E.

Yelp
I went there because of all the hype,,the place is kinda confusing they have kiosk to order food and a few steps away they have a Cashier.the concept is really confusing, the chicken was good and the place was really neat and clean but I don't think it's the right spot for fried chicken spot

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Food was delicious. I got the fried shrimp, nuggets, fries (which were perfectly seasoned) and the mac n cheese. It was a to-go order so as I waited , I sat at the bar and I enjoyed a glass of wine and chatted to the very nice bartender, Jameesha. There is quite a selection of dipping sauces and upon Jameesha's recommendation, I tried the Asian Zing (I think that's the name of it) and it added another level of tastiness to the food. Kenitra, the other young lady who was working at the time, was quite patient with me...you have to order your items at a screen and then find a table if dining in. Overall, I found it to be a pleasant experience and I'm looking forward to my next meal.

Edit K.

Yelp
Mediocre fried chicken.... And that's all they have. No wine, and only plastic food service.
