14 Best Museums in Singapore | Condé Nast Traveler

"This museum was founded in Germany in the 1950s and still maintains its flagship in Essen. In 2017, the Red Dot Design Museum moved from its home on Maxwell Road to the glitzy Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade, one of the most touristed areas in Singapore. Its new home is a thoroughly modern space—all soaring glass and steel and neon red lights and Instagram photo ops. The focus here is on contemporary design; and the items featured are winners of the internationally recognized Red Dot Design Award competition." - Ashlea Halpern

The Red Dot Museum is definitely worth a quick visit if you’re into design and creativity. It’s on the smaller side compared to what I’m used to, so think of it as an hour-long experience rather than a full-day outing. The exhibits are interesting and I found the time valuable — I walked away with plenty of inspiration. That said, some of the items in the shop felt a bit out of date, and the prices for many of the toys and gadgets were shockingly high for how simple they were. There are some affordable pieces, but a lot are more for display or collectors. I wouldn’t really recommend bringing young kids unless you’re ready to spend big. If your kids go wild every time they see a toy, this place could break your pocket quickly. For adults though, or anyone curious about product design, it’s a cool spot to explore. Tip: Plan it as a side activity — an hour is plenty to see it all.

There really isn’t much to see here. The exhibits are not very interactive and the ship is overpriced, so the 5 or 10 dollar voucher you get with entry is absorbed by their markup. I would not recommend unless you really like design or you’re killing time

I came here because I was attracted by the reviews. It was a small museum where you can admire diverse gadgets or bags or decorations. Most of them executed in a very creative way. They also presented a lot of revolutionary tools in medicine especially. It is an interesting museum to see. I liked it.

This is a quick and inexpensive museum. Don't expect too much here, but it is interesting. Hopefully, some of the products they display will be available someday. They give you a discount for the store with ticket purchase.

It's a small museum. The permanent collection felt like ‘slightly interesting’ creations rather than futuristic/innovative inventions. The exhibition of the new competition is a bit better.

Bought our MRT Tickets via klook and look what we got, a priceless experience with Red dot museum. After roaming around you can eat or drink via their cafe which serves snacks. Very kid friendly since it is situated near a playground. If you plan to visit Singapore soon, do not forget to drop by here.

As a design enthusiast I liked the museum. I was a bit disappointed by the amount of actual objects they have. Majority of things are just written on a wallpaper and cant see the object. Go only if you like design. The pricing is fair

Red Dot Design Museum stands as a vibrant celebration of innovation and creativity, offering visitors a unique window into the world of cutting-edge design. As soon as you step into the museum, you are greeted by a dynamic space that showcases an impressive array of products, concepts, and installations from top designers around the globe. The museum’s curated exhibits are a visual delight, featuring an extensive collection of designs that span various industries—from consumer electronics and furniture to transportation and lifestyle products. Each display highlights the thought, precision, and artistic vision behind every design, inviting you to appreciate the innovation and functionality that form the core of great design philosophy.

Yelp
The museum items were interesting but I found the place too small. If you like innovative products, you'll find some cool unique items to learn about. Be warned- it feel like a quick pit stop gallery rather than a full museum.

Yelp
Definitely do the deal on Klook, around $10 SGD and comes with a $5 SGD voucher for the store (though you will quickly find that a lot of the fancy designs might be a little - a lot - higher than that). It's fun for a little stroll and think about the various designs that are displayed, but overall it's kind of like a self guided tour where some of the displays have the actual item and some are just photos. The whole area is not large and will take less than an hour to get through if you just skim instead of reading and discussing more extensively. You enter through the museum gift shop. Tip is to start on the first floor and make your way upstairs. Not rated high because I expected a lot more interactive items and some of the displays did not have the item and just had a picture of it

Yelp
There were chairs and toilet paper for show??? This is NOT a museum. This is not a museum and the word museum should be DELETED off the name.

Yelp
I live in the area and walk by the Red Dot Design Museum most days, but it was only today that I walked in. It cost $6.40SGD. When you walk in, you actually walk into their museum store and cafe. There is no charge at this point and even if you do not want to see the little museum, their little shop sells interesting, unique, contemporary gift items and is worthy of a drop in. Their little cafe that is attached sells drinks and easy light bites to enjoy either at inside seating our outside on the patio. The museum itself showcases Red Dot design winners. What is a Red Dot design winner you ask? Red Dot is an international product and communication design competition featuring design and prototypes in the launch or future launch of products worldwide. From lighting to clothing and robots to backpacks, this space features design boards and some actual products on display. It is interesting, requires your curious creative brain thinking cap and is a lot of reading signage to explain products and the accompanying pictures of those products. The place is not big and also not extensive, although very interesting in general. So while you are walking around Marina Bay and need a stop that is not all retail in the coolness of indoors, maybe pop in for a bit to learn something about the future of design.

Yelp
Great place to visit to buy a fabulous piece of art. Exhibitions worth the time. We always visit when in Singapore.
