1st and last time here. The place is closing it's doors May 3rd... No wonder. $16 for 8 mediocre chicken wings, $3 unsweet tea, $.75 for a slice of tomato.... How the heck did they make it this long. Service was great. Food was OK. No where near worth $36 for what we got.

Our family visited Red Hawk Bar & Grill and enjoyed the experience; food was good, waitress friendly, and the atmosphere was nice.

We stopped by Red Hawk Bar & Grill for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was quiet in the restaurant and the staff was friendly. They let us know of some recommendations and specials. The portions are large and the atmosphere is really relaxed. We enjoyed our meal and our walk downtown.

I ordered the Traditional Red Hawk Burger with Steak Fries and the Sweet Potato Fries. The burger came out exactly like I wanted, medium rare. It was tasty and the toppings were fresh. The steak fries weren't anything special but the sweet potato fries had a perfect crisp and paired very well with the chipotle-mayo. I also had the paloma drink here and the flavors didn't pop as much as I wanted it to but, still refreshing nonetheless. Overall experience was great and our waitress Elena was very nice.

Stopped in for a quick bite and was very pleased with my meal. The atmosphere is great and they offer a ton of seating. I ended up getting the Smoked Turkey Rueben which was so good and something I’ll definitely come back for. Their hand cut fries are also very good and I would recommend getting them with your meal. Price wise they are very fair as my sandwich with a side ended up being about fourteen dollars. Stop by and give them a try!

Google
Amazing local burger place, the servings are just as big as one needs without going overboard. I highly recommend the Chicken breast burger with American cheese and double smoked bacon. The lemonade was also great. The menu is a bit expensive which is why it is getting four stars but other than that it an amazing restaurant and I would totally go here again.

Three of us went out for dinner at Red Hawk Bar & Grill on South State Street in Ann Arbor, after the Ann Arbor Film Fest. We loved it - ordered fish and chips (breaded nicely, firm yet tender and so flaky a piece hollowed out a bit when snapped in half), the flank steak, and the salmon entree. They are known for the beer menu here, but a couple of us ordered craft cocktails. This was a good night out with great service!

Google
Amazing food options, and everything tasted great! One of the best burgers I've had in a long time, and the cheese curds are perfect. Great place for any occasion.

Yelp
Red Hawk remains a solid, go-to choice for a great meal in an inviting atmosphere. We come every time we're back in Ann Arbor and they always deliver. Cozy, never too loud for conversation, lots of quality menu items to choose from and consistently good service. Thanks for being a favorite of ours since the 1990s!

Yelp
Kind of a sleeper spot on State St! My husband and I didn't have a dinner reservation on a busy Thursday evening, and most restaurants we walked past on Liberty looked to be full with people waiting. We turned the corner on State and walked past Red Hawk, which looked to have plenty of capacity for walk ins. We went in and were seated right away. Right off the bat, I liked the look and feel of the interior! Cool bar, warm and modern. It does smell a bit like beer, but I don't mind that. We got a couple of apps and an entree to share family style. I also got a Bell's Two Hearted on tap, which you can never really go wrong with. Beer was nice and cold. - Beijing Duck Quesadilla with Mango Salsa. Loved this! It is really nothing like Beijing duck wraps haha, but nevertheless, the quesadilla is meaty and cheesy and the salsa adds the perfect brightness and some acidity (think it's mango and pickled onion). - Chicken Wings. It's listed on the menu as crispy and spicy. It was definitely crispy with a thick fried batter, but not spicy. Served with ranch and blue cheese. I enjoyed! It's not my husband's favorite style of chicken wing, but I like the crunchy crispy layer. The ranch was thick and seemed house made. - Traditional Red Hawk burger (cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion, dill pickle) with steak fries. This was a good burger! The veggies were fresh and crisp, and the burger juicy. Steak fries were done nicely. I dipped both in ketchup. We definitely left full and happy. One word of caution though (and why I took a star off) - the food is sodium heavy (I mean, especially with our choice of order so partly on us). But I actually woke up several times over night just super super thirsty. So maybe hydrate better than I did or order healthier items to balance things out a little better haha.

Yelp
They finally have their full pre-covid menu back!! My favorite item on their menu is the Beet and Fennel salad and since Covid they have had a pared down menu that eliminated the most interesting things on their menu. I completely understand why they had to do that but I really missed that Beet and Fennel salad. Today I was very pleasantly surprised to see the return of the Beet and Fennel salad and several other "missing" items. As always, service was fast. We easily made it in and out before a movie. It also was quiet enough to talk.

Yelp
I had major issues twice two weeks in a row. I made reservations weeks in advance. Came 10 minutes early and was refused seatin

Yelp
Met a friend for lunch and we were sat right away in a booth. My friend got the mahi-mahi fish tacos that she enjoyed very much. I ordered a chopped salad and it was fresh, crisp and delicious. The servers were very attentive. The noise level was moderate, but we were still able to get some work done overall a great place for lunch.

Yelp
We went to Redhawk for dinner on State street on a Friday night. We started with the Duck Quesadilla, which was very good. I had the Chicken Pot Pie for dinner, which I felt was a touch undercooked and lacked flavor. Sorta bland. I have had much better. My wife had the Chicken Caesar salad, which she said was good. The atmosphere is upscale American bar food. Casual. You would not be out of place in a suit, polo, or nice t-shirt. Our service was good. We were seated quickly, and the food came out timely. Beer menu was average. We have eaten at Red Hawk many times over the years. It can be up and down. There is nothing on the menu I need to come back to eat. Overall, it under delivers for me.

Yelp
The Norwegian Salmon I ordered for lunch tasted fine. BUT... it was plated so the entire plate was swimming with the butter/garlic/salmon juice poured over the fish. No separate dishes/dividers. So sweet potato fries & side salad were just jammed on the same plate and literally floating in fishy liquid. Paid $30 (including tip) for a lunch where 2 of the 3 dishes were barely edible. Complained about the kitchen plating fail to the waitress, who said she'd tell them. BUT... no comp or discount on the final bill, which I would have expected. Tried to text the complaint code on the receipt, but guess what didn't work? Won't be back. There are lots of places to eat in A2 besides this.

Yelp
This place has nice decor and the positivity stops there. I ordered fish tacos and the fish tasted old, dry and flavorless. They also charge a whopping $8.50 for a side of french fries, which are steak fries, but extremely mushy. My mom ordered the reuben and she said the meat was dry and tasted like it had been overcooked and reheated multiple times - old. Based on my experience, I will not be back and would not recommend anyone to Red Hawk.

Scott S.

Yelp
A really cool cozy place to grab a nice bite to eat. Very simple and clean restaurant. Fun place to go for hang outs or birthday meals (B)

Linda Z.

Yelp
Food is horrible, does the chef ever taste the food? We ordered Beijing Duck quesadillas, nothing to do with Beijing duck, just plain duck meat with some cheese, weird taste. And also the sweet sour tofu, terrible. It's just onion salad mixed with fried firm tofu and dip into microwaved shiracha sauce. Totally waste of food ingredients. Won't go back!

Yelp
fantastic burgers and patty melts! Attentive service, reasonable prices, delightful ambience.

Yelp
This place is your standard bar food (in a good way!). Randomly ended up here on a Friday night when most other places had a 2-3 hour wait. Red Hawk only had a 10 minute wait shockingly. The food was good! Nothing insanely shocking or crazy good just your standard sit-down bar/grill food. Moscow Mule was also very tasty. Service was quick and incredibly friendly. I'd recommend if you're looking for somewhere to sit down and stay for a bit to order drinks that isn't too packed.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. The interior has charming brick walls and an upscale feel, but that's about all Red Hawk has. After a very long wait we finally got a table. I ordered the Go Blue burger. It was supposed to have blue cheese, but did not, just over cooked peppers. I was going to ask the waitress to bring me a side of blue cheese crumbles to add since it should have come that way, but she did not check on us at all. The meat was terrible quality, like cheap cafeteria food. The texture was chewy and did not taste fresh. It came cooked well done, even though I ordered medium rare, but I would not have wanted to eat this low quality burger without being throughly cooked. I had a stomach ache for hours after eating it. I much prefer a fast food burger over Red Hawk. My burger came with a salad. It was bland and I did not eat much of it. Looked like chopped iceberg and was soggy. I tried French fries that my son ordered. They were like school cafeteria fries. Soft and mushy on the inside. My teenage son wouldn't even eat them and he will eat anything. He did like his grilled cheese. I also tried the wings and they were gross. Deep fried with lots of breading and a weird seasoning. Overall it reminded me of cafeteria food, or something you would get at a movie theater or amusement park. Not restaurant quality. It's sad that such a beautiful space has lousy food. It could be a great place

Yelp
I really liked the food and vibe overall! I came in for a late lunch during the week and had a great time. The seating is great, soooo many booths! (Nice ones) And the service was fast and simple. I got their Turkey Rueben and asked for different bread and it was amazing. I would definitely come back here for lunches and looking forward to coming for a drink at dinner time eventually!

Yelp
AMBIANCE - nice, clean, warm, inviting tavern feel. SERVICE - fast, courteous, somewhat apologetic for the food that missed the mark FOOD - does the "chef" actually taste any of their stuff? Two things I had were just way too spicy, and I am from Houston. The other items were marginal. 1) "Sweet&Sour Tofu with stir fried veggies and rice pancakes" - came in an unappetizing wet pile, like hair soaked through with wet shampoo. The pancakes were breaded and soggy hockey pucks. The sweet and sour sauce was neither; it was purely siracha. The dish was not labeled spicy but was so hot that it was inedible and I had to give it back. 2) Cheese curds - Their breading contains very hot chili powder. 3) Mac n Cheese with tomatoes - disgustingly swimming in cheese sauce with some cold chopped tomatoes deposited on top. 4) Soup option was cheese soup. Menu needs some healthy options. PRICE - wow. $100+ for 3 entrees and cheese curds. Save your money for something else.
google avatar

Holly T.

Yelp
This place was... interesting.... I read the menu and it says they use Angus beef. I can assure you that the meat patty I had was made with low quality beef. It was not appetizing at all. In fact it made me feel sick after eating. I had the build your own, and had mushrooms (they weren't burnt to a crisp), Swiss, and avocado. I didn't want to complain to the waitress because I was feeling unwell. But I will NOT be coming back nor do I recommend coming here. Save your money and your appetite for another Ann Arbor Restaurant of higher caliber for the price!

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
We stopped in just for drinks, but they had a nice selection of beers and the bartender was really friendly and kind. Their menu looks great, we'll be back to eat sometime.

Yelp
I've lived in Ann Arbor for over 10 years and I've never come here. Weird. My coworkers and I decided to try it out for lunch one day. Upon reading more about this place, I was surprised by their menu. It's a pretty space with expansive woodwork (I think it used to be a bookstore?), a nice bar area and booths. The menu has a variety of classic "bar" food but with the volume turned up, sandwiches, burgers (including the Impossible Burger!) and a few salads. I'd rate the food as "just OK" like another reviewer gave. There was nothing wrong with it, but, it was just like classic American food served in a bar/tavern style place. They do have a few great vegetarian options - some can be made vegan. I ordered a warm farro salad with butternut squash, wilted kale, roasted brussels sprouts and tofu. It was tossed with a light citrus vinaigrette. The flavors were good and the portion size was huge (easily 2-3 servings in there) so you can take some home. Where this place loses points is price. I'm not quite sure why certain things are priced so high. I really wanted a burger and was excited to see they served the Impossible. However, the Impossible burger here was $17.50 or something. That's outrageous when a typical beef burger is priced at $13. I don't understand why restaurants do this with vegetarian burgers - you don't have to "cook it through" and it's not real meat -- why am I having to pay MORE for you to do less? I'd probably recommend this place to people who are new to Ann Arbor or are in town for a game since the crowd in there seemed older, but I doubt I'll be back.

John R.

Yelp
Drove all the way from Saint Clair Shores to sample the highl recommended fish and chips, and was not disappointed. Excellent service, wonderful staff.

Diane V.

Yelp
I'm surprised by the reviews here. 1- I love the ambiance and service, I've been coming here since 2012 (13 years!) and everything has been consistently fantastic in terms of cleanliness, decor, and service 2) the food is fantastic, it is one of the only places with a decent price for a filling sandwich or piece of fish, delicious sides, and great drink choices 3) I love the consistency of their menu, they have good food and keep making it the same consistent quality for years Some of my favorites include, chicken club, teriyaki salmon , Norwegian salmon, Mac and cheese, the BEST sweet potato fries and onion rings, and great iced tea

Khana P.

Yelp
Got seafood soup -- it tasted awful and I got stomach sick. The other good we ordered also seemed stale. Won't go again.

Tony S.

Yelp
Where do we go when we are in Ann Arbor - Red Hawk our got to for great food - beer and great service. Been doing for over 20 years so you know it has got to be good.

Yelp
Nice, comfortable, cozy spot for a drink and/or bite to eat. Right in the middle of EVERYTHING on one of the main streets here in downtown A.A. I'm sure they get BUSY during peak hours!! We had no wait getting a table for brunch/lunch at about 1pm on a Sunday. Interesting, well-thought menu, with some nice surprises beyond standard bar food. I "risked" ordering a chicken banh mi sandwich in a non-Vietnamese restaurant, and it was WONDERFUL, perfectly seasoned, along with my second wonderfully refreshing bowl of gazpacho in one weekend. Mmmmmmmmmm, Michigan, you make a MEAN gazpacho!! The Mr. enjoyed his steak sandwich and fries, along with a local IPA draft. Great ending to a quick and fun visit to a waaaaaay too quick visit to downtown Ann Arbor!! Definitely worth a try, if you're in the area!!

Yelp
Great spot right on State Street in the middle of all the University of Michigan action and right next to Nickel's Arcade. Super good selection of everything from bar appetizers to sandwiches to really respectable dishes. Ate here plenty when I was in business school many, many years ago, so glad to see they're still going strong. Must try the maize and blue chips with the excellent guacamole. Really crispy and salty. Had a wonderful chorizo and cheese omelet and my daughter really enjoyed her burger with bacon. Fries are also a highlight, thick and flat and just perfect for a big dollop of ketchup. Incredible beer selection including my personal favorite (Bell's Two Hearted from Kalamazoo) on tap. Super friendly service. Seems like maybe the employ students, but everyone was super attentive and positive. Even on a busy game day. Love this place. As good as it always was.

Rose S.

Yelp
We started lunch with Guacamole with Maize & Blue Chips, then had Mac & Cheese and Chopped Salad. They were all pretty good and my friend made it back to work in the lunch hour.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
If Yelp did half stars, I probably would give this place a 4.5, but I'm rounded up because the waiter was very attentive and the food came out very quickly. They even split the check for the three of us with each of our individual items instead of splitting it evenly three ways - we didn't ask, they just remembered what we each got. It's basic American food, but they're done well (albeit a bit overpriced).
google avatar

Dawn V.

Yelp
I don't know why this place didn't pop up on Yelp for me when searching the area, but I'm on day three in AA and this is my favorite lunch spot so far! Cheers to the warm Fargo salad with Brussels and grilled tofu! Delicious! And after a long working morning at Yost, extra stars for the specialty cocktail list. (Stop right there at the first one because the Michigan .cherry is amazing! ) The salad has a mix of sweet potato and pear that is a little ting and yang and e cocktail is perfect: vodka, cherry brandy and citrus. (Not too sweet! Yeah!) Love this place!
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
This an old standby. Gotta say, it used to be better. Though, I cant lie, this place is still here and the location would make you believe, there are many many other places that would go in here. I dont think you can go wrong with ordering a burger with all the possible toppings you could dream up. I always order a burger with guac and griller mushrooms. Highly recommend something along those lines. Skipped the deviled eggs, they were just ok. Dont mess with the salads either, sort of disappointing...this place is most definitely not a salad go-to.
google avatar

Wilson C.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant since my friend said it was pretty decent and it's pretty much that, just very average. The deviled eggs were ok but definitely not worth the 8 dollar price tag. The fish and chips were a little salty and the fish was a bit too slimy or fatty for my taste. The fries were also a bit hard and are definitely not my favorite thing. Not sure if I would recommend this place unless you don't really care and this is the only place that is close and open.

Mark S.

Yelp
Very mediocre. Food is cooky cutter. Atmosphere similar to a discount hotel serve yourself breakfast bar on a Tuesday morning. Out of four places on this stay, this was the worse.

Faith S.

Yelp
Great experience here! Fast service, friendly staff, and good food! Can't wait to come back
google avatar

Teresa H.

Yelp
My family and I have been coming here for over 20 years but no more. Never again. My husband and I were here recently and the staff were beyond disrespectful to the remaining customers shortly before closing. A member of the waitstaff asked us to leave even though we weren't through with our drinks because it was near to their closing time (10 pm on a Saturday night). And, btw, there was a dead insect in our salt shaker.
google avatar

Maddie H.

Yelp
Great Reuben sandwich and good selection of beer. Its a good casual hangout for family and friends. We wanted to watch a basketball game that was on down the street and it was packed so we came into Red Hawk and were seated right away. We also ordered some specialty drinks that were pretty good as well. Overall, I would come back for a drink or to meet up with a group of people.

Peggy G.

Yelp
I love Red Hawk. Nothing fancy - but reliably good food. Been going here for years never disappointed.
google avatar

Julia F.

Yelp
Place was ok. I mean walking in didn't know if I needed to seat myself or just wait for the hostess. We sat ourselves and waited for service. Drinks were good. Food was Not what I expected. Atmosphere was good.
google avatar

Rich B.

Yelp
Outside seating was great. In the middle of the pulse of Ann Arbor the night before a UM game. Service was good. Food was good. Menu was somewhat limited but delicious. Have the Maize and Blue chips with guacamole. Third year in a row dining and drinking here. You know what you're getting.

Leslie J.

Yelp
Made a weeknight dinner reservation for two. The place wasn't busy and the staff were quite friendly. Unfortunately, the food was sub-par. My dinner partner & and I each ordered the Fish & Chips entree, which was insipid-looking, tasteless, and soggy. How unfortunate, especially with so many nearby restaurants serving exceptional fish & chips. Probably won't come back.

Steve K.

Yelp
I reserved a table for 8, but when we arrived, they gave us a table for 6. I asked to talk to someone about it and they gave us 2 extra chairs. When I asked for an additional table to be added, she wouldn't accommodate us and said "you should have reserved a table for 8". I was very disappointed with her entitled arrogance. I would suggest not eating here if you have a large group.
google avatar

Beck E.

Yelp
Some friends and I went here for lunch shortly after noon on a Sunday, and the place was not very crowded. The service was attentive & friendly, and they were very accommodating--several of our group trickled in late, and we had to move some tables together. My bf really enjoyed his catfish tacos, while I had the meatless Mediterranean grill sandwich. It was packed with veggies and not too heavy, but I thought it was a little salty. I also ordered a side of coleslaw, which was fantastic, but I might just really, really like coleslaw. I could see myself going back here to try one of their burgers. 7-oz sounds like a lot of meat though...
google avatar

Bonnie D.

Yelp
Awesome fish tacos! We've been here before (I love the killer nachos!) but I'm glad I tried something different today! These are great -- crisp, spicy, beautiful mixed greens on the side... What a classy, decadent lunch without breaking either the bank or my waistline!
google avatar

Barry D.

Yelp
Well, not a favorite in a town with way too many great restaurants to keep going back to even an average one. I started with the seafood gumbo. The menu advertised shrimp and fish in it. I grew up on the gulf coast and know gumbo, and am pretty sure I got chicken gumbo. It was unbalanced and over-spiced. Momma always said that "if you get the roux right you don't need tomatoes, and anyway tomatoes are a crime in a fine gumbo." This one had tomatoes. For my entree I had the southern turkey meatloaf with mashed potatoes and creamed corn. The turkey in the meatloaf had been ground too fine, and as a result it was mealy not meaty. I don't know how they got a lovely burnt-toast char on the sides of the two generous pieces, but I don't want to know either. Like the gumbo, the spices were laid on too heavily and unbalanced. The mashed potatoes were simply flat. Mix in some cream, or butter, or bacon fat, or turnips. Anything to lift the dish. In addition they were dry, so maybe made too long ago. The creamed corn was the unexpected star of the meal, but only because I love the taste of corn so much. Again, the seasonings were laid on too heavily and unbalanced. I would have preferred the corn without spices altogether. This is my third and likely last visit. As a Born Southerner, what this kitchen calls southern offends my palate. As a foodie who gets to eat out in A2 a lot, there are better choices for good food in the price bracket of Red Hawk, as well as above and below it in price. For the past eighteen months I have come to A2 for business one or two weeks of each month, and have systematically eaten at over fifty restaurants in the downtown area. I've been to more of the downtown restaurants than most of the locals at the client.

Yelp
A first time customer here... And it wont be the last :-) My husband and I stopped in on our way back to Lansing after hiking all day. This is a very clean and cozy little restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor. The burgers we ordered were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. David (the server) was attentive and friendly. We will be back.
google avatar

Beth H.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and fast service but that is where the favor ends. I was floored at the quality of food for the price. Perhaps we got our hopes up at the menu descriptions sounding so good but what was put in front of us was disappointing. Catfish tacos $9 and fries and extra $2.55 - you get two small flour torillas with ONE tiny piece of fish on each and a handful of fries on the side. The flavor was good, but there was so much juice and sauce from the toppings that the tortillas were soggy and hard to keep together. And though I kept looking to see if I got a bite of the fish, I couldn't taste it through the goop on top. For $2.55 extra, I expected a good portion of fries, not a handful. Cooking from scratch using locally sourced, fresh ingredients since 1992. - After this visit, I can't believe it. My husband order the awesome sounding grilled cheese. It was store bought kind of white bread trying to be passed off as sourdough. No way was that bread made from scratch either. In what world does three slices of raw red onion justify $1.50 extra charge. The bill was $30 for two lunches and ice tea. We could have gotten the same lunch at the same quality for half that at a coney island. We won't be back. Man is sounded GOOD too - Seriously disappointing.

Yelp
It was a good experience. I was there with my prospective employer. I had the cubano sandwich. It was really good. They also have a good selection of beers.

Evelyn Margaret E.

Yelp
Took a family group to Red Hawk. All were impressed with Red Hawk's attention to COVID safety (masks, etc.,), as well, of course, as their good food (excellent selection), good service, and great atmosphere. Thanks for making downtown accessible again.
google avatar

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the Red Hawk. On our way home from Chicago, the hubs and I stopped at Red Hawk because we felt like bar food and wanted to try some place new. The atmosphere seems more like a restaurant and a bar. High ceilings, clean floors, and nice tables and booths. I ordered the steak tacos and hubs ordered the Cuban Hero. The steak in my taco's had to have been marinated in heaven because it tasted awesome! And the meat was extremely tender and juicy. The taco fixin's were extremely fresh and the rice and beans blended with it perfectly. I never would have thought that outside of a Mexican restaurant I could have a decent steak taco. Hubs loved his Cuban Hero too. Marinated roast pork, sweet smoky ham, spicy chorizo sausage, swiss cheese and pickled onions. Our server was young and very friendly and attentive. Our drinks were out quickly and refilled periodically. And our food came out in minutes! We didn't order alcohol but saw they had a very nice selection of domestic and imports and have a rotating tap. Generally when I'm on that block on State Street I'll go to Ashleys, so this was a nice change.

Yelp
Great experience for my first time. I used to go to school at the University of Michigan, but unfortunately I never had the opportunity to dine here even though I heard much about it. I'm in town on business so dining with co-workers this was a great spot. I had the Lamb Burger with a small order of fries. Fantastic. No one informed me that the sandwiches were sold as ala-carte. I paid more than I was prepared for, but it was certainly worth it. The sweet mustard on the table was amazing. I would totally recommend coming here and would get the same thing I did, again.

Yelp
Finally decided to review this place after having multiple great experiences here. The teriyaki salmon pita is phenomenal, so much so that I always get one whenever I'm visiting Ann Arbor. The salmon is consistently perfectly cooked, and the pickle relish is sweet and crunchy. I usually steer clear of anything teriyaki but this isn't at all too sweet. Pure deliciousness. "The lamb burger asserted its dominance over my mouth," says my bf. In a good way. "Best burger I ever had." The corned beef reuben, regular burgers, and hot dogs are also very good. Opt for one of these over the fish and chips, which is too oily. This place is a bit expensive. While the sandwiches don't come with a side (just a pickle) though, they are still filling portions.

Yelp
Very disappointing! $16.00 Chopped Chicken Salad at lunch today. Chicken was so fatty with yucky skin and super salty. We should have returned it. Just disgusting! I did not want to make a fuss but we should have said something. Won't go back!
